Jollibee fried chicken. I remember when the first restaurant of this Filipino chain opened up here in Edmonton, hearing that some people camped out, and I witnessed the super long line-ups of apparently loyal Jollibee followers that were there daily, the line-ups of which lasted for a couple of weeks. Good thing they had the large tents to shelter the cue from the elements as they made their way through line. I thought to myself, "Wow, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a line-up like that for the opening of a restaurant before! Once the lines go down, I'll have to try one day!" But not being in any hurry, I did some reading and research for what seemed to make the chicken so special, and tried making some "copy-cat" recipes at home, so the urgency of trying the real thing waned. Now that several more Jollibees have opened up over the past couple of years in Edmonton and through the Pandemic, and the long lines have dwindled, we finally decided to try the fried chicken. Having previous experience with Filipino style spaghetti, we gave that a pass. We ordered a 10 piece bucket to go, and the cashier allowed our request to substitute 2 pieces of the regular with spicy (though I like spicy, it usually covers the taste of other spices so I prefer to add something later). A pleasant surprise were the 2 containers of gravy that accompanies the order of chicken. The crunch of the evenly coated fried chicken was very, very good, nicely seasoned with a background taste of five spice. The meat was moist and juicy, and I'd guess that the pieces were brined prior to coating and frying. The pieces of thigh and drumsticks were quite large and meaty, much larger and more even than what KFC provides (Canadian KFC seems to use smaller pieces that the US does, but it's been a while for either since we've last had some). The evenly numbered pieces of drumsticks and thighs overflowed the bucket supplied, and it was impossible to fit the lid on, so the lid was supplied perched on top. As KFC doesn't seem to be as tasty as I remember it in the past, again admittedly a while since I had any, but we both thought Jollibee was much tastier. The 2 pieces of spicy were a surprise! As I said, I like spicy foods, and Jollibee's spice level was not disappointing! Likely too spicy for many people, so I'd advise caution for those not so inclined. As expected, if there were other spices like five spice powder in the mix, it would be difficult to pick it out, but as was the regular, the spicy chicken was very flavourful. The gravy was very good, not spicy and with a stronger umami and slightly sweeter taste than KFC. It went well on the fries that I made at home (par-boiled, tossed in a slurry of corn starch, and double fried for a really satisfying crunch). So Jollibee's fried chicken is certainly worth trying you get the chance, if only to see what the fuss is about. Certainly better than most other fried chickens available. I can see why Jollibee has become the successful chain that it has with its legions of loyal fans. read more

I tried Jollibee along Calgary Trail a few times since they first opened. Overall, they have big pieces of crispy chicken that's also quite juicy. The spicy flavour is good. However, the chicken in general is quite salty, especially if you're eating it without anything else and it is on the pricier side for fried chicken, so I'd give them 7.5/10 read more

Flipsyde memories. Hyped up still with long lines. Get the mango peach pies and spicy chicken. When I walked into the store it felt like I was transported to the phillipenes. Ordering was simple as the menu really consists of 5 items. Simply and easy. The place has that welcoming respectful filipino charm I love about the phillipenes! I decided to try the classics. Spicky crispy chicken, , spaghetti and mango peach pies with pineapple juice to wash it all down. The food is better than the phillipenes. Probably bc theres better quality control here and its definitely more hygenic here. I'm not really a huge fan. But the place is new and everyone is raving about it. I must say I was impressed. I eat a lot of deep fried chicken. And I would say its chicken is one of Edmonton's top 3. I loved the mango peach pies. I scarfed down 2 so fast bc they were so delicious and tasted like the mangos in the phillipenes. I would recommend both of these dishes if you want to try it. The spegetti was too sweet for me and adding hot dogs is not appetizing for me. But it was still good. Theres still lots of filipinos coming here bc theres a huge following in edmonton...and filipinos love to hang out where other filipinos are. It reminds them of home. There's been lots of hype surrounding Jollibee since it opened. People wait in long lines just to get a taste of this famous chain that now has arrived in Edmonton. It's hyped up because for certain people, this place reminds them of being back in their home country. I went on a Wednesday evening around 6pm last week. I waited 1 hour and 15 minutes. I was given a number that indicated my place in line and my order number. I was also given a menu. There currently is a purchase limit of $60 per person. I ordered their combo meal which included a bucket of spicy chicken (6pcs),3 peach mango pies and a family pack(serves 3-4) of their jolly spaghetti for $35.99 and an additional bucket of orginal chicken for $15.99. My house was only 7 minutes drive away and food was still hot when I reached my house. Chicken was delicious. Perfectly fried and crispy. The spicy chicken was surprisingly very spicy. The spaghetti had a sweet taste to it compared to normal spaghetti because honey was added in. It was alright but I prefer Italian spaghetti. Peach mango pie was amazing!! Crispy on the outside and the inside was oozing with peach and mango. Sooo good. Was it worth the 1hr and 15 minute break? No. It's a fast food restaurant and food should take no longer than 15 minutes at places like these. I'll probably wait a couple of months before going back and hopefully the waiting tent for the lines will be gone by then. Food is worth a try though! read more

This is a Filipino staple. When we went to Philippines a few years back Jollibee was on the list of must-do's. My family loves this place and we definitely enjoy having a little taste of the Philippines in a fast and convenient way. We ordered a 10 piece bucket of spicy chicken. The chicken skin is crispy and crunchy and has a nice kick to it. The chicken meat inside is juicy and cooked to perfection. So delicious and you have to try the gravy with it as well. The gravy is unlike any other I've tasted it's unique and goes great with the chicken. We also always get the palabok, my favourite dish! It's a noodle dish with shrimps. It's so good!! Try this one if you like seafood. For the kids I usually get them the kids meal with the mango pineapple juice. They enjoy the little toys and the cool cups! And for dessert we always gets some peach mango pies which are so delicious when they're warm. They're crunchy and toasty on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside. read more

My Filipino friends urged me to try Jollibee and said it was pretty much spot-on to the Philippines except for the fact that the menu is a tad smaller. Their Yumburgers aren't back yet which I'm very looking forward to having but dang...their spicy chicken hits me just right. It's perfectly fried and I adore the spicy seasoning they put on the crispy skin. If you're not a big fan of spice but looking to venture into trying something spicy-ish, this is definitely a good choice as it gives you a lil kick of chilli powder but it won't sting your mouth. It's also not very peppery like with most fast-food spicy chicken. The spaghetti there is surprisingly tasty. I thought putting honey in tomato sauce was a strange addition but I found it enhanced the tomato flavour and it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet at all. Personally, I'm a huge hot dog fan (gimme all dem dogs) so I didn't mind the little hot dog bits at all. To end your feast on a decadent note, I highly recommend getting the peach mango pie while you're there. It's miles above any McDonald's pie (which I'm also a big fan of). I really hope Jollibee will consider expanding their menu and bringing back the Yumburgers. I'm very looking forward to coming here again. read more

I've been here enough times now that the lines are reasonable, so I might as well write a review! I LOVE THE SPICY FRIED CHICKEN! The chicken and pineapple drink will keep me visiting often. They are so delicious and go so well together. The spicy batter makes the chicken unique in Edmonton and really hits the spot if you love spice. The chicken is both tender and crispy all at once! The mango peach pie was quite delicious too! The sides that I tried weren't anything special. The mashed potatoes are extremely creamy and the gravy it came with was salty. The rice was just ordinary rice. The fries were okay, again nothing special. The really disappointing item for me were the burger steaks, they were just really thin and soggy, would not recommend ordering that. I'm not sure if I'll ever try the spaghetti, haha. read more

Finally got a chance to visit Jollibee the other evening. I wanted to try this infamous Filipino gas t food chain, but not at the expense of waiting five hours in line. I came on here on Sunday evening around suppertime and only waited 10 minutes from joining the line (at the back of the door) to getting my order. The dining room was packed, so I took my order to go. If you want to get a seat then your wait will be longer. The menu is actually pretty small. For main course there's fried chicken (spicy or regular), a fews types of burgers, their spaghetti that's served with a sweet sauce, and the palabok fiesta. Sides are fries, mashed potatoes, steamed rice, and buttered corn. Pineapple juice or pop to drink and mango peach pie for dessert. While in line an employee will come up with a paper and pencil and take your order. When you get to the cash register they'll confirm what you want. I got a two piece fried chicken (spicy) with two sides (buttered corn and fries). The meal comes with gravy and a drink (I went for the pineapple juice). I also got a mango peach pie for dessert. Then your given your pineapple drink (or a cup to fill at the pop machine), your receipt and a buzzer. When it buzzes you're food is ready and you pick it up. Survey says - pineapple juice was delicious and not overly sweet. - fried chicken was yummy, not overly greasy and good flavour. I found the spicy chicken a little spicy, but not unbearable (ymmv). - butter corn was delicious. - fries were pretty standard, nice a hot. They're not shoestring but not thick cut either. - gravy was good but thinner than regular gravy (more the consistency of Swiss Chalet sauce but not the same flavour). - mango peach pie was on point. Great way to end the meal. Food was pretty good, my meal was filling, and cost under $14. I found the two piece chicken meal filling and next time I'd just get one side (especially if getting dessert). I was curious to try the spaghetti but since I was taking this to go (a.k.a eating this in a parked vehicle before seeing a show at The Jube) I thought spaghetti would be a bit too messy. It was busy, but there's lots of staff working and I was impressed with only waiting about 10 minutes. I overheard coming midweek between 2-4 is probably the least busy time. I wouldn't have wanted to stand in line for hours but I know there's a lot of people that were excited for Jollibee's because it reminded them of home. And yeah I get that cause when I was living in Ireland I was excited to find a convenience store that had Tim Horton's coffee (and Tim's isn't even that great anymore). But Jollibee's was a good solid fast food experience. I hope they're able to open a second location so this one calms down just a bit. read more

Known for their Jolly Crispy Chicken, spaghetti, and peach mango pie, Edmontonians finally have the chance to try it after waiting years. Jollibee is the largest fast food chain brand in the Philippines. This is their 5th Canadian location and 1st location in Alberta. Some people might not understand why Jollibee is so popular. Personally, I believe that it's part of the Filipino culture because it makes them feel like they are at "home". For some, it was their first time eating Jollibee after many, many years! I don't think I've ever seen so much hype and excitement for a grand opening in Edmonton before. I came around 10 am and the lines were still long. Honestly, I'm not too sure when the hype will die down. If you've never had Jollibee before, I'd say it's worth the wait for the food! The menu is kept simple with a few main items and consists of Filipino fare mixed with Western-influenced items. I tried the Jolly Crispy Chicken, Spaghetti, Palabok, Peach Mango Pie, and Pineapple Juice. Other items on the menu are Burger Steak and Yum Burger - both very popular as well. It was actually my very first time trying Jollibee! The Jolly Crispy Chicken was very juicy and tender. I really enjoyed dipping it into their Gravy. The chicken was delicious and I could see why people waited hours in line for it. A very popular combination at Jollibee is the Jolly Crispy Chicken and Jolly Spaghetti, something you can't find served together anywhere else. The spaghetti here is a bit different from the traditional pasta dish. The tomato sauce is a bit sweeter and it comes with hot dog slices and grated cheese. Palabok is one of the more traditional Filipino dishes on the menu. It consists of noodles seasoned with fish sauce and topped with garlic sauce, chopped pork, shrimp, and hard boiled eggs. I found this dish to be very savoury and tasty! It wasn't like any other noodle dish I've had before. Peaches are one of my favourite fruits so I was pretty excited to try the Peach Mango Pie! The exterior was crispy while the interior was oozing with peach & mango goodness. Definitely pick some of these up when you stop by Jollibee for lunch or dinner. Overall, I had a very fun and enjoyable first time at Jollibee! It definitely is a memorable experience, unlike at other fast food restaurants where you simply eat the food and don't look back. This was my second visit to Jollibee and so far so good. My recommendation is to try the spicy chicken, it was well cooked, juicy enough, very tasty and crispy. I ordered the food to go so It took a bit for me to try it, but the chicken was still hot and crispy. The pineapple juice was a bit sweet for my taste but I'm sure for others it is perfect. After reading some reviews I decided to give it a try to the mango peach pie, it was very good but again a bit too sweet for my taste. Sorry I cannot tell you anything about the burgers or the pasta. Service was good and fast so all good there. Tons of parking available. If you want to have a good experience, avoid rush hour or weekends, lunchtime during the winter months are perfect. Jollibee was a childhood favourite place for me in Brunei for birthdays. I can't say I remember much of it since it has been over 18 years I haven't had Jollibee. So, I decided to take my family to try it out this evening. The average wait time is an hour and a half and I wasn't given an order sheet while in line, so I was given attitude when I was at the cashier. It was pretty expensive to order for a family of four; we only ordered 3 person's worth, thinking our one year old would eat off our plates. My husband waited around for seats while I stood in line to order. I ordered the hamburger steak with two sides, a yum burger combo, a 3 piece chicken meal with two sides and 4 peach mango pies. It was just over $41. Only the fried chicken was good; I like it better than KFC but it wasn't as good as Popeye's. The fries were disappointing since it was slightly cold and not seasoned well. I tried my son's burger and the patty was just ok. It was underwhelming. Buttered corn as a side was delicious; both kids enjoyed it. Pineapple juice was good but I probably should have asked for no ice. I won't be in a rush to go back. It isn't worth waiting a long time in line for, especially not with little kids. This is such a busy place every time I come, long line ups but the staff are efficient so the line ups are fast. The orders are made fresh and the staff are friendly. I would totally recommend the chicken and pasta, not a really big fan of the steak. The steaks are like pattie burgers with cream sauce. The gravy sauce with fries are great, I would totally get it because it's so good. It took several months of waiting but I finally attempted to try this once they reduced the waiting tents to one, which it was very nice of them to provide heated waiting tents for their customers. I have been to Jollibee once in San Francisco and the chicken was crispy and juicy and the Edmonton location was very consistent to that quality. I had to order the sweet spaghetti too and I have to say I like this one more! This one was less sweet and had more meaty heartiness to it. Their pineapple juice is delicious as always. People are crazy for the mango peach pie but I wasn't a huge fan. The flavour inside was good but the consistency outside was more like an over baked strudel and also feels like a deep fried egg roll. TL:DR - A different take on some classics, good desserts, pretty average chicken. Worth a visit if you've never gone before. There has been a lot of hype over Jollibee since it opened back in the summer. After a month or so of seeing the lines with the tent up finally being taken down and the crowds dying down. I finally decided to go see what all the hype was about. We went around 10 in the morning and thought that there would be a different menu for breakfast but to my surprise there was the full menu you'd get any other time of the day. I wasn't sure what to get as I've never gone here before nor, do I have the nostalgic memories of going to Jollibee as a kid growing up in the Philippines. So me and my wife ended up getting the Jolly Spaghetti with 1 piece chicken combo ($8.49) and the Palabok Fiesta with 1 piece chicken as well ($9.99). Both came with a soda or pineapple juice, and a side of gravy. We also got a peach mango pie ($2.99) to share. The Palabok fiesta is a glass noodle dish with a savory meat (I assume pork) and seafood flavour (shrimp for sure, not sure what else), in a red pasta sauce (probably similar to spaghetti but slightly different because of the shrimp. It wasn't bad, I probably wouldn't get it again but it was an interesting combination of flavours. The noodles were a medium softness and it came with a slice of egg, not a whole or even a half but a slice... which was weird. I'd give this dish a 2.5/5. The Jolly Spaghetti wasn't bad either, the pasta was cooked fine a bit past al dente that western spaghetti's come in. It was a red tomato based sauce with meat (probably beef) and hot dog pieces, topped with melted cheddar cheese. It was more the Asian/Filipino (I say Asian because some Chinese people cook spaghetti similarly) style of spaghetti being a tad on the sweeter side than most Canadian people might be used to. The hot dog pieces were a lot more firm than I had expected, which was interesting to me but nothing too bad. Overall this was probably a 3/5. Then we come to the chicken. Nothing really to write home about here. It was crispy as you'd expect fried chicken to be, and the meat was juicy and tender. There wasn't a lot of seasoning in the breading which I was sort of expecting but it is what it is. I'd probably rank this fried chicken above KFC but below Popeyes, which are probably it's direct competitors in this fast food fried chicken market. The stars of this meal were really the pineapple juice and the peach mango pie. I would go back just for these things. Just to note though the pie is shaped like a McDonalds pie but it's deep fried and the shell to pie filling ratio is much better than you'd get at a McDonalds. It is however a bit on the oily side as it is deep fried, so keep that in mind. I'd give both of these a 5/5. Overall my experience here was one that I enjoyed. It wasn't ground breaking and it was probably really hyped fueled by nostalgia and social media hype. I'd go back just... not if I have to wait in a long line. read more

This was my first time trying Jollibee and I wish my experience was better. The meal overall was good. I liked the crispy l, seasoned skin of the chicken and the fries were really good when they were hot. The mashed potatoes were smooth and the gravy not too thick and not too thin. My favourite part was the peach mango pies I can see why they have a cult following. How they get that shell so crispy I don't know. The inside is creamy and sweet- but not too sweet. When Jolibees opened up, the lineups were too long and I completely forgot about it until last night when I drove by. I never understood the hype or understood how chicken and spaghetti are a combo.. it's like chicken and waffles. You wouldnt think it's a good combination.. but it is. The menu is pretty decent with lots of options and the prices are reasonable. I ordered the single chicken with spaghetti and a drink. The pineapple juice looked absolutely delicious, so I took that and wow.. fresh pineapple juice ! Delicious !!! I also ordered the peach/mango pie. So breaking down the spaghetti. The sauce has a sweet taste to it and has chunks of.. what is that? Hot dogs? .. weird but strangely it works well. It was actually pretty good and is enough to fill you up. As for the chicken , I got a drumstick and it was sadly slightly undercooked. I dont know how this was possible.. maybe too many pieces in the deep fryer . But once I got to the bone, I can see it was a bit pink. That was a bit disappointing. The peach/mango pie though was absolutely delicious.. goodbye apple pies.. hello peach/ mango !!! Jolibee is from the Philippines and has been expanding worldwide but they have 1100 locations in that country alone.. pretty impressive ! First time at Jollibees today. My Filipino friends have highly recommended it. Because of COVID, takeout was the option I took. Had the 3 piece chicken plate with 2 sides. I like the fact I could mix and match between regular and spicy. The spicy chicken is spicy! The french fries were excellent. The chicken pieces were of a good size and I liked the taste. Went a couple of times before the pandemic. I waited about 5-10 mins on both times which was okay. There are very limited tables/seats to dine in so the staff defaultly packs your order in a bag. Their packaging is way too excessive, plastic bags here and there. On both visits, there were items that were incorrect or missing. It got sorted out when i went to the cashier but could be avoided altogether considering they have a lot of staff checking the orders before it gets to you. I suggest you check your order before you head out if you are not dining in. Chickenjoy as expected was juicy and crispy and just how it tasted in the philippines. Spaghetti, peach mango pie and palabok was ok. Pineapple juice too sweet, like full of sugar. Gravy complimented the crispy skin of chickenjoy. Some people said the food is overpriced. I ordered the 1pc spicy with sweet spaghetti and a cup of pineapple juice. For dessert I added a peach mango pie for a total of $12 and change. I've had homemade sweet spaghetti before and I have to say this was better than that. The sweetness was less overpowering. I was pleasantly surprised and would order it again. The spicy chicken was a good size drumstick and well cooked. It was crispy but not dry. The spicy flavouring was noticeable but wasn't too much. The gravy is a nice touch and certainly adds to the flavour once the skin is gone. The juice was well chilled but didn't quench my thirst the way a carbonated drink would. They don't have any burgers yet so make sure you want fried chicken (regular or spicy) or sweet spaghetti with sliced hotdog meat. Definitely get the mango pineapple juice instead of the soda pop. It probably has as much sugar but it's not carbonated and pretty tasty. They have a drive thru here which is pretty fast because they have such a limited menu. When you only have two items and a few choices of drinks they can get your order together quickly. The spicy chicken is basically the regular fried chicken with a spicy seasoning sprinkled on top. I frequent Jollibee often and even waited in-line during its opening day. Let's just say I painstakingly waited hours that day to get food -- about 10 hours! It was crazy but definitely an experience. This place is nostalgic for Filipinos and many come to Edmonton just to take a bucket or two of the chicken home. When I heard an Edmonton location was opening up, I was content but I didn't know that the hype would grow to such an intense peak. I'm writing this review months after its grande opening and nowadays, the lineups are manageable and you can expect to order within a couple of minutes depending on the time of day you come. Don't get me wrong, the lineups are still quite large but overall a lot better than it used to be; let's recall the huge tent they had setup in the middle of the parking lot and being handed a queue number that was in the hundreds. The menu that is provided at this location is nice but is lacks options that are found in the Calgary or Manitoba locations. It has the essentials, however, which is great. I also found the service that is provided very friendly and they try very hard to promote the "jolly" brand and personality which I appreciate. The Jolly Crispy Chicken is -- as the name implies -- crispy and I found it quite tender and juicy in the inside. My only complaint is that I felt like it lacked seasoning and the flavor was quite neutral. Paired with the gravy and rice, however, it was not bad. I enjoyed the Jolly Spaghetti but I wouldn't say I'd order it again. It is created with Filipinos in mind and is reminiscent of a similar style that is cooked at homes in the Philippines. It is definitely on the sweeter-end which is just not my cup of tea per say. The tomato-based sauce was quite bland and I felt that the meat in the sauce, paired with the pieces of hot dog on top of the dish, is a very odd combination. The Palabok Fiesta was good and I liked the flavors that they had going in there. I prefer it over the Jolly Spaghetti dish. I felt that altogether with the shrimp, the egg on top, and the sauce, it was a decent dish. However, I'd say it definitely would depend on your preference. The Pineapple Drink and the Peach Mango Pie were too sweet. When I get the Pineapple Drink I would sometimes wait until some of the ice would melt so that it could dilute some of the sweetness away. I'd say I prefer over the fountain drinks though. The Peach Mango Pie is overpriced at $3 each but it is nice and went well with the menu as a whole. I am a fan of Jollibee and am definitely happy about this location and its success so far. It has been such a convenience in terms of satisfying an inner nostalgic craving which I always experience now and then. I would recommend trying it out when you have the chance to. read more

I've been wanting to give Jollibee a try for a while now. Big line at this place but it moves fast. It's an interesting angle on fast food. Where can you get spaghetti at a fast food joint? I kept it simple. 3 piece crispy chicken meal. Fries and a soft drink. I like the breading on their chicken, very crispy. They have a lot of options on their menu. They strike me as a fusion of KFC, McDonald's and an Asian restaurant. They also have items like: hot dogs, mashed potatos, buttered corn and other edibles you might not expect. So finally I stopped by and there was not a line out the door so I got to try this place. I ordered 3pc with fries and pineapple juice to drink. Everything seemed to go fast and be run well. So I got meal super fast and it was nice and hot. In the end I found the fries ans chicken fairly plain. Having been raised I the colonels 11 herbs and spices, the chicken seemed short about 6 herbes or spices. The fries and gravey were also pretty plain. I really liked the pineapple juice, but could have used more. So I the end, this was ok, but since I did not grow up with it, i only found it ok. read more

I love this place! I don't know if it's because I'm part Filipino and the food gives nostalgia along with flavour. But I find myself craving it almost every week. The chicken is nice and crispy, and super juicy. The peach mango pie is something I ALWAYS have to get. There is a limit to how much you're able to spend every time you go ($60) because it's still pretty popular and new. There's usually a super short wait (5-10 min) during the weekday afternoons. Weekends and after 5pm are almost always 30min wait. They take your order before you get inside so you just hand your slip to the super friendly cashiers. I love the greetings they give every time!! After that you get a buzzer and they call you when it's ready. The part I really like about Jollibee is that they give out free gravy with all the chicken, unlike other fried chicken restaurants where you have to pay extra. Jollibee is a Filipino fast food restaurant. Extremely popular in the Filipino community. They have Fried Chicken some home dish inspired sides. their chicken is very flavorful their batter is light and Flaky the chicken is very juicy. They do have two options of chicken regular and spicy, the spicy chicken is zesty not overwhelmingly hot but definitely has some zing. I also recommend trying their peach mango pie very flaky and flavorful a very smooth Taste of mango and pineapple, And also try their pineapple juice as it is not too sweet taste very natural. read more
