I love great bread, and this is truly great bread. We first encountered Iggy's at the Copley Plaza Farmer's Market. Bought a baguette and we were duly impressed. Great flavor, dense chewey crust. Just right. But the real epiphany was at the restaurant Via Matta. They serve Iggy's bread there, and I am here to tell you this bread was fantastic. Maybe I ordered the wrong things but I was not really impressed. I was excited to see Iggy's at the Union Square Farmer's Market as their store location is a bit far from my home. They did have a huge selection of breads and pastries at their stand. I ordered a chocolate croissant to eat on the go while taking a brioche loaf home with me. The croissant was decent but not what I would expect from a bakery at the level of Iggy's compared to some coffee shop that sells croissants in addition to drinks. As another Yelper pointed out their brioche is not a true French brioche. It doesn't look like one as it looked more like a sandwich bread loaf. Appearances can be deceiving but as soon as I cut the loaf I could tell it was much drier than your usual soft and buttery brioche. It still somewhat tasted like a brioche but without the texture and freshness. read more

I walked here today with my pup because I read such great reviews and was craving carbs (when am I not?). It was a little less than an hour from closing time, so I could kind tell the employees wanted to get out of there. Regardless, it was awesome. Huge loaves of home made bread for $2-3 bucks a pop! I got a loaf to take home and ate a piece of spicy sausage and arugula pizza for lunch. The crust was amazing and the toppings were so fresh. It was delicious to the max! I couldn't resist and also got three treats to try at home: mini pecan/cinnamon roll, raspberry thumbprint cookie, pecan flour cookie. All that for only $11. Woot! Having now tried the bread, I can attest it is delicious! So fresh and perfect. I got something with a weird name that they described as a softer sour dough. In terms of desserts, you can skip the pecan/cinnamon roll. It's pretty bland, not worth the calories. The pecan flour cookie was alright. But, the thumb print cookie was divine. Divine I tell you. I wish I bought a bunch. But, for $2 a pop, maybe I don't. It's a treat. I would definitely go back. On the con side, there is no seating inside or outside. That would be nice. read more

Carb heaven....and there's parking. SCORE! Bread pudding- the one disappointing item. It was just too eggy for me. Chocolate croissant- the BF gobbled it up before I got a taste :( Almond/caramel cookie- it looked so pretty I had to get it. If you like almond/cherry flavors I recommend it. Sticky bun- very good once you get to the inner circle. Not quite as good as Flour's though. Small Francese- so good! Ate it with olive oil+vinegar when I got home. Completely demolished. Very nice bakery! As people pointed out, it's hard to get to without a car, although you can walk or bike from anywhere in Cambridge as long as you can figure out how to get through the Fresh Pond rotary. Iggy's is in the rear of the industrial park, next to the old rusting boxcar. They always have tons of free samples out, and everything I've tried there has been excellent. You can get a lot of their breads and pastries throughout Cambridge, at Darwin's, the Oxford Spa, Whole Foods, etc. if you don't want to make the trek up to the industrial park. read more

I get Iggy's bagels for weekends when I have time to chew them (chewey bagels are good to me). I love Iggy's Francese (that's italian for French) loaf which is crusty on the outside and both light and strectchy on the inside. Iggy's stands out in a region void of serious competition (Pain D'Avignon, When Pigs Fly are great, but provide a narrower variety of styles)--Oh, Iggy's and Pain D'Avignon used to work together but they got in a tiff and now there are two. read more

I love Iggy's bread, I get their seven grain rolls just about every single day. Those rolls are so chock full of interesting and tasty ingredients that I think you could just about survive on them. Iggy's bread itself is available all over the Cambridge/Boston area. The little retail shop off Concord Ave in Cambridge on the way to Belmont is externally unassuming, but warm and creative inside - with lots of lovely samples of breads and spreads you'll end up sad without once you taste them. Sadly, the bread and pastries are no cheaper there, than at Whole Foods or Central Coop, but the selection is much bigger. Includes pizzas and spreads, and bread pudding. Also offer very good coffee. I don't remember the company they source from, but I think it's organic and specialty roasted. The Iggy's company is very sustainability minded, which gets kudos in my book. They recycle, they pay their staff, they give bread to charity, and I think I read an article about how they produce a lot less waste than most bakers. Good job Iggy's, keep the rolls coming. Their sourdough bread is just amazing and what a real bread should be , other bakeries don't even come close. The air pockets in their bread speak about the quality of their sourdough starter and their fermenting and baking process. If someone has gluten sensitivity they can still try their bread since it is not using commercial yeast but a natural sourdough starter which will break down the gluten in the bread to make it easy to digest . The reason people get sick eating gluten is because they eat bad products which are not made the way they used to be made traditionally . So please give this place a try and you will gladly jump off the gluten free bandwagon. (Unless you have Celiac disease) read more

I love bread! Iggy's Bread has been one of my favorites for a while so I made the special trip here so that I can stock up on my bread supply. I don't think I have to sell anyone on the quality of the breads here but what impressed me most was the sandwich and pastries here. I had the tuna sandwich which to my surprise had eggs in it too - what an interesting combo - my protein requirement was met that instance! The escargot (raisin snail) was excellent with just the right amount of crispy and chewiness - great washed down with the coffee they sell onsite. I don't think there is any seating there so it is a take out place but boy, it's worth going just to savor the wonderfully baked baguette. I am a fan indeed. read more

Love Iggy's! I go twice per week. Great bread, great coffee, great pizza with seasonal toppings, great ham & cheese croissants. Coming from a European background, I understand the importance of fresh bread and will make the extra trip to the factory store to buy my baguette or Francese or rolls or whatever. Lots of these items can be found at stores throughout Boston and it's fine purchased in these places, but once bread gets put into plastic or paper and shipped around, it loses a little something something. And only at the factory store can you buy so many other delicious products: cookies, tarts, pizza, chips, pizza shells, coffee. It's french baguette is not exactly authentic. It's excellent but if you are a stickler for the classic, Iggy's is a bit heavy. Clear Flour makes a better baguette, Flour's is about as good (different), though none of these are authentic either. PB Boulangerie in Wellfleet makes the most authentic French baguette (best croissant too) but that's a little far to drive. read more

The workers here treat their customers like complete trash. I arrived at 3:15 on a Sunday (45 minutes before close), and you would've though it was 3:59 at the way the workers were acting, frantically scrubbing windows and cleaning. All the lights were turned off in the place so you could barely read the signs for the breads they had left. The woman behind the counter was extremely rude and acted so put-off when it took me a few minutes to decide what I wanted because I couldn't see the signs and there was almost nothing left. The bread ended up being good (which is the reason for 2 stars and not 1), but I won't be back. The hostility towards customers was completely inappropriate. read more

I was really excited to find out about this place. It is in this odd, godforsaken business park near the Fresh Pond Mall. Across the street is this really cool furniture barn that sells ornate buggies. I would like to take some time to highlight the fact that when you visit the Iggy's Outlet Store or whatever this is called, you get to chow down on samples, samples, samples. I used to work around the corner from here and loved their gourmet sandwiches and slices of pizza! My favorites are their prosciutto and arugula or olive, and or squash and goat cheese slices or their spec and brie or tomato, mozz, basil, and white balsamic vinaigrette baguettes are amazing! Amazing fresh baked bread, bagels, and specialty baked products. I love their Parmesan crusted croutons--perfect mate to a homemade Caesar salad. If its your first time visiting Iggy's, you'll think your lost or the person driving you there is taking you out to the back lot to your demise....but just keep driving, its nicely tucked in between a lumber company and the fire department! I used to bike to almost every Bike to Work day in Boston, which was 11 miles from my house, to be rewarded with free Iggy's mini pecan rolls and their poppy seed bagels. They don't skimp on the pecans or the poppy seeds. Yesterday, I made the trek out to Iggy's to savor a pecan roll, and it did not disappoint. It surpassed my recollection of the mini ones at the bicycle breakfasts, because the dough was even flakier. Kind of like a rolled croissant with lots of yummy pecan bits and caramelized sugar. I want to go back and try all their treats. I wasn't a fan of their coffee, though, and there's nowhere to sit down to eat at their bakery. read more

Love Iggy's. They're a bit under the radar in their bakery-being stashed behind concord ave, next to a gym and a firehouse. But the search is totally worth it. You can find their bread pretty much everywhere these days-bakeries, whole foods, restaurants-but it's no reason to pass up a visit. This much selection of delicious carbohydrates is one for the win. Tip: the bagels are delicious, but don't stay particularly well. Find yourself a good airtight container or plastic bag if you're looking to eat them anytime outside two days of purchase. Title: A treat for all five senses. Take a deep breath upon entry. It's the yummiest bakery smell ever! Then open your eyes - take in the cornucopia of carbohydrates. Listen to the sounds of people baking in the back and know that your bread is so fresh it has maybe moved 20 feet from where it was baked to where you are going to buy it. Reach in to the bag and take out your warm fresh bagel. Feel the poppy seeds (on both the top and bottom) digging in on your lips as bagel meets moth. The bagel is crispy on the outside and soft as a cloud on the inside as your teeth sink though it. Then the bagel hits your tongue and FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS of bagel goodness. All Melodrama aside. Iggy's is the best bagel place in Boston (ok, I know it is Cambridge but whatever). I take my bagels VERY seriously and these stack up to the best. Better than any New York bagel I have ever had. There is only one bagel better and is it 10 hours and an international border away. It is not a place to sit and eat. Just a place to buy your bread. But it is a nice place to buy bread. But is in an industrial area. Staff was friendly. All three people nearly simultaneously asked to help me. Bought two dozen bagels. This way I can avoid the 20 minute drive by stocking my freezer. As others have said, this bread is definitely worth the trip. Normally, I'm not a big fan of cinnamon raisin bread, but something about the crust on Iggy's version just makes my toes curl. Unbelievable. I'm also a big fan of the croissants (it's impossible not to be, imho). They also have some pretty good Illy coffee brewed, which makes it a complete stop on a weekend morning. It's often our destination when I take the kids on a Sunday morning "croissant hunt." Sidebar: I remember back in the early 90's I was working at Bread & Circus (Brookline) when a women came in the store with a basket of fresh baked bread. She spoke broken english, but it was clear she wanted us to try her bread. We gave it a try and instantly started rolling our eyes in delight. I look forward to every Tuesday and Friday during the warmer months when I can stop by their stand at the Copley Square Farmer's Market. There is nothing like a fresh loaf of bread, it's so good you throw a little margarine (or butter) on it and that's all you need. No need for cheese or anything else to mask the taste of this awesome bread. I guess in the winter I will have to drive up to their store, but it sure will be worth it. I really don't care if the people aren't enthusiastic about their job. the baker's are and it shows, and in my mind that's all that matters. I've never had a problem at their "farm stand", they are always nice and courteous. Iggy's bread makes up most of my diet, and there is a very good reason for that. read more

Sure, you could just go to Whole Foods and buy Iggy breads, but traveling deep into a depressing business park off of Fresh Pond Parkway is far more fun. Plus, the bread is cheaper there, the free samples are plentiful, and it reminds you why fresh bread is such a treat to begin with. I have come to rely on their Ciabatta Squares and Foccacia circles, but they have great sandwiches and pizza at lunch time as well. If you get a sandwich at a nice restaurant in the Boston area it's most likely served on Iggy's bread. And so it should be. This store is dangerous! To be surrounded by everything Iggy's is an overwhelming experience. I truly wanted one of everything. I left with a feta croissant, onion baguette, a couple ciabattas, a couple slices of pizza ... I think that's it. All of which came to less than $20! The feta croissant didn't even make it home. SO good. The feta filling had minced onions and seasonings that worked so well. Nothing says "party" quite like big bread. Whenever my friends and I go skiing or out to the country for a weekend, we stop by and grab a HUGE francese wheel (or two). You could cover a man hole with one of these things! And on top of that each section of the bread (the wheel is scored so you can tear off roll-sized hunks) is perfect: nice crust on the outside, light and chewy on the inside--just like the other breads they make. I lived in Italy for a year and this bread is almost better than the bread there.... but neopolitan pizza will always be the best--- true stuff from Naples you can't beat it! Come to this bakery and you can get wholesale prices, instead of paying crazy amounts for their items at whole foods...what a rip off!
