BLUF: a great time, and well run Went with a large group on a Saturday. When you first arrive you have to do a waiver and get weighed (can't fly over 300 lbs, and maybe can't fly if b/w 260 and 300. This is where the most annoying parts of the visit was for me. There are bunch of touchscreens in the check in area, and they could just have you go there and check in. But instead you have to scan a QR code on your phone and do it online. Makes no sense, especially since you have to watch a safety video, which you are now doing on a tiny phone, and there are about 5 others walking around you doing the same. Once you check in you get a wristband and go upstairs. Once upstairs there are lockers to store your stuff. Then you get a jumpsuit, goggles and helmet and they guide you through fitting the helmet. Then you meet your "guide" for the session, and he/she brings you into another room, where the second annoying thing happens. You watch the SAME safety video again. Then the guide goes through it again in person. Frankly, the guide's in-person spiel was the best and they could have ditched the other 2. Once you get in it's a great time. The key is to RELAX. If you are tense, it is a lot harder to get stable, and if you're not stable you will waste some of your precious 90 seconds of flight time while the guide tries to stabilize you. The last downside, it is PRICEY. Groups can get discounts and party packages, but it's never cheap. Definitely a once-in-a-while thing unless you have a lot of disposable income. Would I go back? Definitely, but only once in a while and ready to drop some serious $$. read more

This place is amazing!!!!! We got a gift certificate for four flights between two people, so my teen and my 5 year old did it. We checked in, they got the kids weight, and then we headed upstairs to the flight floor. We chose to upgrade the helmet from the standard blue (open face mask) to the red (full face mask), which I would definitely recommend doing!! We watched a couple flights before it was our turn and you could tell that the blue helmets really distracted some of the younger kids because of all the wind in their mouth. The kids got their flight suits (they have sizes for every shape/size) and helmets. Before their flight they watched a brief info video and learned how to keep their legs and arms during the flight. The guy that got them suited up (Marcus) is the same one that did their briefing and was there for their flight. The kids loved him! And at the end of the regular flights he did this little trick flight with spider man moves. So much fun! The waiting area is a decent size, and they let us take video and photos from outside of the flight tube. But, if everyone in your group is flying, they also have the option to purchase photos and video from your flight. At the end, you get a flight certificate, with your name on it, and signed by your flight instructor. You also have the option to book flights for a later date at a super discounted price. We decided to get a group certificate for my kid to bring her friends back next time. If I had to pick one thing to say for improvements...the gift shop didn't have prices on a few of their items, so having those would be nice, but that didn't change how amazing this place was. We had such a fun time at iFLY! I got this for a Christmas gift for my husband (and also myself!) - it was both of our first time skydiving. Check in was a breeze, including the reminder email and call leading up to the event. Marcus, our instructor, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He taught us how to fly and the hand signals he would be using inside the tunnel to guide us since it's so loud in the wind tunnel for verbal communication. We did 3 flights each with a high flight for our last flight. Each flight was a minute. Once I was in the tunnel, it didn't even fall like flying but more like cruising! It was super neat to see how the different hand placements could alter your direction. It wasn't scary at all and I felt quite secure throughout the experience. I am a tad sore today on my shoulders and neck but nothing major (and I also worked out separately, which might be contributing). I highly recommend trying this out! read more

You do have to wear a special suit and helmet so you have to put your personal items in a small locker. The skydiving itself is very fun but tricky. You have to stay completely balanced, but if you're drifting or are uncomfortable and it is one of your first times there then there will be an expert to help you and redirect you. Price: a bit too much, only bad thing about here. Cool 20 seconds, but 100s of dollars. Parking - They do have a large free parking lot outside Overall, this place is great. I booked my slot online, however, the option to book a slot over the phone is an option. The staff is very friendly and informative. Safety is their FIRST and main concern for all customers. They are taking extra measures to ensure cleanliness is upheld at the highest point. All gear is provided to include goggles that can fit over your glasses. A briefing of instructions and in a classroom by the individual who will be on the air shoot with you. That facilitator is very experienced with sky diving and can maneuver you (and themself) at will. Oh this was fun! I could have gone into that tunnel 3, 5 times more and never grown tired of it. I'll skip the details here of what to expect on your flight day because frankly, several other Yelpers have already done a great job of that. But I will mention a few tips and things we enjoyed about our experience: 1. This was an early birthday present. We purchased the standard 2-flight package and added 2 high flights and 2 pictures. The day of the flight, the nice attendant at the counter discounted one of the high flights when he saw that my birthday was the following day. So moral of the story: go on your birthday :). 2. iFLY is a popular spot for kids. In our flight group, my husband and I were outnumbered by 5 adorable kiddos under the age 12. I've never felt older. 3. Once you're in the wind tunnel, make every effort not to smile. I was grinning like a fool on both flights and couldn't avoid some drool action as a result. I don't think anyone in the audience noticed but still...not cute. 4. Oh right...there's an audience. So go in there with confidence and relaxed. In other words, act right. People are watching. 5. Along the same lines of #3, something about the high flight gave me the serious giggles. Especially the part when the instructor pulled me down and it felt like I was free falling on a roller coaster. I couldn't stop laughing. For a while my only thought was, "Please don't pee". 6. iFLY is a good vibes kind of place. And how could it not be? You're flying around in a wind tunnel. Every staff member, from the check-in attendant to the instructors, all seem genuinely glad to be there and glad that you are there. 7. Beware that the pictures they take aren't of the best quality. The video makes for a better souvenir. Or better yet, bring a friend who's afraid of heights and have him/her take pictures and record the flights from the bench. Arrive about 45 min before your scheduled flight 3. Watch a quick video and live demo from instructor 4. They have free lockers so you can put your personal belongings 5. Get in a flight suit, goggles, ear plugs and helmet 6. Get into the tunnel with your flight group (8-10 ppl), go one by one and rotate and have 2 fun flights! Tips/Notes: 1. You can't take your phone inside on your flight but they take really good photos and videos so it's worth purchasing in my opinion and it wasn't expensive. 2. Know your hand signals because the instructor and you are unable to talk once you are inside the tunnel. 3. Definitely pay the extra $9 per person to go up high into the wind tunnel, it is totally worth it because it mimics real skydiving. 4. It might make sense to buy longer flights because it takes about 20-30 seconds to get the hang of it and then by the time you do, it's almost over. 5. At the end of your flights you can pay an extra $20 if you want to fly again. I've been meaning to do indoor skydiving for the longest, and it finally happened today! I was super excited for this activity. Our instructor Marcus did a phenomenal job. He trained us in a classroom first, before taking us to fly in the tunnel. I was very nervous, and eventually get a hang of it. I did 2 flights. It's an additional 39 per person for videos and pictures. I was hoping to get my pictures but I have to wait for 14 days. They should definitely work on giving videos and pictures out to participants a lot sooner. Overall, a great experience and you do get a flight certificate with your name printed on it. Very good experience as a first-tie skydiver by myself at the iFLY facility. I visited last week for the experience. The instructors were extremely professional and friendly with their interactions. The actual time in the chamber was fun and instructor was attentive on safety. As another reviewer mentioned, the pictures that they take are a mix in quality. I had multiple ones of myself in the chamber, but I had to hunt for one specific one that actually showed my face. We have always wanted to try indoor skydiving and finally decided to do it as part of a Valentine's Day present to each other. This location near One Loudoun is perfect! The check in process is quick and the staff is very friendly, helpful and they explain everything. After they weigh you and you complete the check-in you then head to the flight deck located on the 2nd floor either by stairs or an elevator. Once up stairs, check-in on the right side of the desk for your Helmut and Flightsuit. There are also lockers to put all of your belongings. You cannot wear jewelry or watches. You then proceed to a room where they show you a video and go over what to do when you are in the tunnel. After the group before you finishes you will enter the chamber and sit down to wait for your turn. Each flight will be 1 min. I was nervous before I had my turn, but honestly it is so fun and easy. It's not scary at all and does not feel like you are falling at any point. We will definitely return and bring friends next time! read more

Super busy around holiday weekends, but the Costco vouchers make it a more affordable gift and there's tons of parking in the attached lot! The extra lift upgrade feels more breathtaking as a bystander than a participant, but it's worth it unless you plan on taking additional flights to learn tricks. Not a recommended activity for anyone with recent shoulder injuries, definitely recommended for anyone on the fence about skydiving. I'm prone to motion sickness, but I had no problems after a moderate breakfast other than nervous butterflies. Lots of young kids went in and had a blast... of air. Okay okay, no bad jokes. The adrenaline rush is fun, but YMMV on your experience depending on the instructor and your class size. Bring your own paparazzi, the photos are taken from a static viewpoint from the control panel and aren't always properly tagged by name per session. Our more laissez-faire instructor opted to not utilize the training bench in the side room after the video tutorial, and I can't help but wonder if muscle memory could have gone a long way to wasting less time on manual adjustments in the wind tunnel. Looking at photos afterwards, I realized that my history of yoga made me arch my back more than was ideal. read more

Paid extra for a high-flight + virtual reality for him and videos for us both. He loved his add-ons and I was pleased with the quality of the videos at the end. Why couldn't it be cheaper or longer or price included the up and down? Personally I had a hard time breathing and didn't really enjoy going up and down. Most people in my group did enjoy it though. Loved this experience and will definitely return. The first time, it was a bit confusing. We had no idea it would be so popular and just showed up. Whoops! First time slot was 2 weeks out. We booked reservations, paid, did the waivers and showed up promptly at 9 am on our reserved date. We had been directed to show up at 9 am for a 10 am flight time. Totally not necessary to show up an hour ahead. Folks with a 9:30 time were showing then. Our training time wasn't called until 9:30. The price is reasonable given the equipment, the thrill, the training and the type of staff that has to be hired to make it safe. Your flight chief has to adapt to very small young kids and very old seniors and make it fun, thrilling, and safe. Ours certainly did that. We immediately signed up for more time. 95% of our interaction with staff and trainers was extremely positive and enthusiastic. Somehow my plastic eyewear was put on inside out, but not discovered until my turn to go into the tunnel. There was no sighing or sense that I had screwed up, just calm fixing of the problem. The small safety details matter to them! But ... the 5% ... out of nowhere, as we waited for the crew ahead of us to finish and we were standing around, one of the male employees (not a flight chief, not a trainer, not someone at the check-in, he was floating around chatting to folks) came up to me and said, "you need to smile." Not, "you'll have a great time, relax!" or "can I make this more enjoyable?" or perhaps "I hope you aren't nervous" but the very blunt rude version. He did not approach the other grandfather just standing and staring into space. He did not approach the senior couple calmly waiting their turn and not smiling. I looked at him and softly said "Please stop telling me to smile. It's a bit rude." Instead of apologizing, he bent down to my granddaughter and said, "your grandmother needs to unbend." He whispered this, so I didn't find out what he said until the ride home. Wondering why he thinks it's okay to tell a woman to smile. I doubt any amount of customer interaction training will change his mind about the beeyotch who wouldn't smile. read more

Our appointment time was 8:30, we didn't start at that time and was called back for a safety and instruction course by 9:15pm. After the safety video, we were taken to the lockers to secure all items. Then we were led to get our uniforms which can be slipped over your clothes, earplugs, safety googles and helmet was provided. We went on a Saturday at 1:30pm. I'm pretty sure you have to prepay and prebook prior to going at all times. Overall, a great experience. Each flight is about 45 seconds and it does go by quick. Each instructor takes a group of about 7-9 or so and most people go on at least 2 flights. If it's your first time going you have to watch a 5 minute video and I do think it's necessary because you need to keep your body positioned a certain way to stay in the air and they give you good tips. Of course there is a ton of air in your face so if you smile or open your mouth a lot your throat may get dry after. There is no sinking feeling when you first fly, but when he took me way up in the tunnel on the way down it felt like a ride :). Jeremy was very enthusiastic about his job and professional, this definitely helps with the experience! My upper shoulder area was very slightly sore the next day but no different then when I sleep funny so it is hard to say if it was from the experience or not. My friend said her body was sore from her waist up and my brother said his glutes were sore I guess it really depends on what you're tightening up in the air . The instructors have full helmets with covers their entire face, they didn't offer that but I think I would have liked it because I don't like a lot of air in my face. This sky zone was so impressive! I had never experienced anything like indoor skydiving and so I had no idea what to expect. When you go in, you get a short session on safety and commands for body positions and then you suit up and go for it! Don't worry though, an instructor will be with you the whole time. Flying in the tunnel is one of the most fun things you will ever do close to the ground. However, it is not as easy as you think to fly your body. Just think of when you have your hand out of your open car window traveling down the highway. Small movements affect your hand quite a bit. Imagine flying your entire body. It's a challenge, but so worth it. Kids often do better, as they go in a little more relaxed. :) You can breath fine. There is no lack of air. It's just windy. If your mouth is open from 'wow' or smiling, it may dry out and make you feel like you can't breath. I assure you, you can breath. For those complaining about cost, really, it's a fraction of the cost of a tandem skydive. Sure, the view isn't as great and you don't have any fun canopy descent, but, you get more freefall time, no one strapped to you, and you get to learn how to stabilize yourself. Your time spent 'waiting around' is far less than going to the drop zone for the day. I would still recommend everyone experience a skydive too - but this is quite convenient and affordable. Of course, you may feel like it's safer too. The staff at iFly Loudoun has been through a lot of training to make it safe and fun for you. (** PLEASE REMEMBER TO TIP THEM **) They are top notch!!! Please pay attention to the training and hand signals. And ladies... braid your hair and tuck it up in your helmet. Brushing out long hair that's been set free in the tunnel, is no joke. :) I'm an ex-skydiver with 400 jumps and 20+ hours of tunnel time.
