You can't help but want it to be over but you know there's a likely chance that jar of Noxema zit meds might not work in time for your most important night in high school. The dread of that realization is how sometimes I feel about dealing with computer geeks/technicians. Let's just say they're not known for their social skills. Most of us knows "techies" are good with technical stuff but it's the non-technical stuff we use in addition to grade you. There are a dime a dozen of good techs around but it's your attitude (rather social skills) that counts too and which also help with customer retention. That about sums it up for my experience with numerous computer repair outfits I contacted for a quick look at my laptop. My laptop hinges was not closing properly and the first thought I had was to let a technician fix it. How wrong was I when I called a dozen computer shops around Honolulu! The first thing they'll tell you is "You gotta leave your computer with us for a few days for us to look at it". Seriously? All I need to do is coming in for a quick look and get a rough estimate to see if my laptop is financially worth fixing. If you're a business with a brick-and-mortar storefront, it's an open invitation for customers to walk in right? It's business basics, not rocket science. Prior to looking into this repair route, I already mentally prepared myself to the fact it might be cheaper to replace my laptop unit. I'm not computer hardware ignorant nor uneducated. My prior experience included disassembling the entire CPU and putting it all back together properly. I learned this "tearing down the entire computer" in my 2nd college year. Common on - looking to see if the hinge is worth fixing takes only 15 minutes if not less. I'm not asking them to fix it when I phoning them. I'm just asking them to take a look at it to see if it's worth fixing. It's been a long time since I disassembled PC parts and I'm not about to embark on that tedious task again...LOL. It's the holidays. As I scrolled through the directories of IT specialists for hardware repair, I went down the list and ended up actually calling them. All was frustrating until I reached Digital Vault Consulting. As soon as a man answered the phone, I heard the friendliness in his voice and tone, unlike all those yahoos I called that morning. Pono, the owner, was like "I can take a look at it for you if you would like to bring it in today". Wow that's what customer service is and here was someone with a desire invite potential customers to use his service. Once I entered the warehouse-office, I felt comfortable and the place was not blasting with the AC but rather a down to earth ambiance. Seeing the other small business merchants closely located right next to each made the place have such a "homey" vibe. Pono examined my laptop and pointed out that the closing mechanism at the hinge is beyond saving. He suggested I should take a more economical approach - get a brand new laptop and even recommended I should look for a better designed laptop hinge. All in all, Pono save my day and was so sincere in helping me out. It's good to know I'm not wasting his time and vice versa. Mission accomplished and many mahalos to Pono. DVC will be my first point of contact in the future for my PC hardware needs or problems.

Kevin, the #1 Geek, has a Facebook page and so I was able to contact him on the weekend when I knocked my laptop off the chair arm and trashed the LCD. He actually responded within about 20 minutes! I dropped the laptop off at the kiosk on Monday, 2/13, and got it back today 2/21. The only delay was waiting for the part to arrive. Just for info, the banner in the photos says "$89 flat rate" and it's now $109 - but still a great price for great service!! Lots of people buy cheap netbooks now and toss them instead of repairing. I spent more on a GOOD laptop and it's just over a year old, so no way I wanted to buy another. For $203 out the door, my laptop is as good as new. I can't say enough good things about the customer service and honest repair!! Thank you, Kevin! PS - It's just a little tricky getting here, but if you spot the 7-11 that is a big help. It's a weird intersection and if you're in the wrong lane, you have to circle around - so watch it! ;)

Called Jeffery (owner) spoke to him and told him what kind of services I wanted. I just wanted to save my pictures I told him. He said ok, come at 1. He does only appointments because of covid. I got there, parking is a little hard to find but I parked by Goodwill. I paid a $45 diagnostic fee. He said he will look into the laptop more and if there is anything else that needs to be done he will call me. 20 minutes goes by and he tells me this computer still good!!! You want to save it or just save pictures. I said whaaaaat save it, how much it that gonna be?? Anyways, I got a new hard drive with a bigger GB, new charger for laptop (I lost the original one), newest windows update, practically a new laptop!! All of this for $300. And I got my laptop back by 3:30. I'm thankful and very happy happy happy!! Having my pictures saved was everything, but to have my laptop working new is a miracle. Mahalo Jeffery and wife!!

When I went to delete my Facebook account altogether, it hit the fan, my email got locked, etc. After losing 10 lbs in three days while freaking out, I reached out to Kahana at Mac Made Easy. He casually said, "Just come by anytime, and I will take care of everything." Being a former New Yorker, I was quite skeptical. I arrived, and instantly, his calm demeanor lowered my blood pressure by 100 points. I gave him my list of things I wanted him to do with all my iPads, phones, and devices. I.e., full diagnostics, factory resets, security systems, etc., then factory resetting everything. After that, I secured the main device and had him reinstall everything. I was ready and expected to spend thousands of dollars. He calmly spent a while asking me a bunch of questions. To make a long story short, he told me that he could do everything I asked, but he had a different solution. He started to explain what he wanted to do. I then asked him to talk to me as if I were 10 years old, then realized a 10-year-old knew more than I did, so I told him to speak to me like I was his grandfather. Again, to make a long story short, he fixed everything and secured my systems, iPads, phones, and devices at literally a tiny fraction of the price I was ready to pay. HE IS MY HERO. During the crazy 2 weeks of rain, my son's computer stopped working. Richard was still working helping businesses with their network failures through the storm. Always good to call ahead and he can work out time to meet if necessary. Reasonable pricing for both labor and parts. Easy to understand explanation. My son's laptop is an ASUS Vivobook 14, model number X1404V. He claims it isn't charging despite it being plugged into the laptop charger. He's tried at different outlets. We tried getting a replacement charging cord and that didn't work, so it's for sure something with the computer itself. We spoke to Yoda at Gadget Guyz about the issue and he let us know it will require bench work and gave a referral to Easy Computer. Dropped off on Tuesday for diagnosis. Results of diagnosis on Thursday. Richard confirmed that there was at least one bad component in the motherboard, so it would require a full motherboard replacement. A motherboard replacement would require dismantling the entire computer and replacing it and putting it completely back together. For a motherboard replacement they are not done in-house, they are sent out to New York. Parts alone would be nearly the cost of the computer brand new. Labor and to send out would double it. Picked up Friday. Richard gave a good recommendation on next steps. Consider if it was still covered under warranty, where I purchased it, what would be covered. He was very sweet to work with.
