I love the atmosphere here; also the live music, been coming for the last 15 years or more when it was the Golden Inn. The food needs a little help. I had the mango chips n guac and there were (no joke) two tiny pieces of mango on top with a tiny tiny bit of diced tomatoes etc. I can't call salsa or pico, just a garnish! It would be great to see some more options like coconut shrimp and other seafood appetizers to share.

To sum it up in one sentence: Come here if you want to enjoy the nightlife and scene, but don't come here for dinner. I went with a small group for a late night dinner on a weekend night and there was a live band playing, as well as two bars-- the main one was pretty packed. There are three fire pits with seating around them, and maybe three cabanas. When I went to look at their menu online, I saw that it looks like you need to possibly book the cabanas if you want to use them, and the same can possibly be said for the seating around the fire pits as well. The place was very loud with the live band playing, not easy to have a conversation with. Also, the whole ground is covered with sand, because it's like, the beach. So don't wear cute shoes that the sand will wedge itself into and make your feet uncomfortable. We were seated right away though. Not much of a craft beer selection, even though they're right next to a brewpub. Food prices are reasonable considering the area. We started with the cheese fries, with the meat on the side and extra jalapeños. They were pretty good and filling in themselves. I ordered the red pizza. Everyone else got a burger. Everyone else were alright with their burgers. My red pizza order was switched with someone who ordered the white pizza. They just stood there until I had to raise my voice, and then they switched the pizzas and gave me my red pizza with a slice missing (the person who was incorrectly given my pizza had already devoured the first slice by the time they corrected our orders). But they didn't care. I was pretty angry about it all. The pizza came in a box and was pretty big for a personal pizza, but honestly it tasted terrible. Low quality cheese with almost no sauce. I've had microwave pizza that tasted better. I left pretty unhappy. I'd hate to have to be stuck with returning here for food again.

The sand part is cool but the food took a long time and came out cold. The restaurant next door looked way better.

But the true star of the night was the medium rare filet, and honestly, it was perfection on a plate. The filet arrived beautifully seared on the outside with a tender, juicy center cooked exactly medium rare. Every bite melted effortlessly, packed with rich flavor and buttery texture that only a perfectly prepared cut of beef can deliver. It was seasoned just right -- enough to enhance the natural flavor of the steak without overpowering it. What made the experience even better was the attention to detail from the staff. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the timing between courses was flawless. Combined with the elegant atmosphere, it felt like more than just dinner -- it felt like an experience. If you're a steak lover searching for a place that truly knows how to cook a filet, this steakhouse absolutely delivers. Easily one of the best steaks I've had in a long time, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to.

Luckily there is a door that closes off the noisy bar area. The service was good the waitress gave us some recommendations and was knowledgeable about the menu. We started with a few cocktails which were good and booze forward. We didn't have appetizers this trip. We did have the wedge salad which was good not great underwhelming wanted the dressing to be better. We had a party of 4 two people ordered the filet cooked different temps. One ordered the short rib with potato's and carrots. One ordered the crab cake. The filet was cooked perfectly we ordered a sauce but it never came. It was flavored well enough it didn't need any added sauce. The short rib was savory and tender falling apart . The crab cake was good but was grilled a bit too dark for my liking. It was chock full of lump crab. We didn't have dessert for dinner since service was slow and took a while to complete dinner. The side dishes all lacked flavor. The creamed spinach was bland and under salted and runny. The broccoli was just ok and a bit cold. The potato was good but can't mess those up too much. All in all a good dinner it's not a great value but expected at the beach. The entrees were good sides fell short. Lots of mixed reviews here nice looking place though . Maybe try for yourself !

We sat outside on the balcony, lovely ambiance, but it got chilly & cooled the food down too quickly & we couldn't finish it. For example, the trio of queso/pico/guac. I have learned to expect a lower standard of service in Cape May County, regardless of the average…read morecheck amount, so I was pleasantly surprised to see someone raising the bar in the way that The Reeds in Stone Harbor appears to be doing. The last time we dined at "Sax At The Reeds" was soon after they opened, and it had not been good. My entree on that first visit had been so inedible, I took one bite and left the rest. That may have been a first for me. It was that bad. I didn't even ask for something else; I was so disgusted. This most recent experience was considerably improved. My wife and I were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary a few days late, and when prompted during the reservation process, I had checked the box for "special occasion" without thinking much about it. It seemed rather incidental, but I thought it couldn't hurt. The staff at Sax did not disappoint. When we arrived at the front desk, the sharply-dressed gentleman working the host stand was engaging and personable, and when we answered that we did indeed have reservations, he guessed our name and welcomed us and congratulated us on our anniversary. He asked if we preferred a special table and offered a window seat if we liked. If we'd known they had a fireplace, we probably would have chosen to sit in front of that, but the window seat was lovely. We were soon greeted by Patrick, our server for the evening, and he arrived with two flutes of sparkling wine on the house and wished us a happy anniversary. Patrick was an animated and exuberant server who definitely knew his job, understood the food and wine, and had strong opinions about the menu. We were never in need of anything, but also never felt overwhelmed by his presence. A good balance. My wife began with the broiled oysters, which were phenomenal, and I had the steakhouse salad, which was surprisingly good for being an original take on a simple wedge. It was exactly what I wanted and a perfect size. Not too big or small and elegantly presented. For our entrees, Jane ordered the crab-stuffed flounder with lobster sauce on a bed of risotto, which she thoroughly enjoyed even though it's not something she would typically order. Jane has a very critical palette and is a great cook herself, so she's not easily pleased. She thought it was a delicious, well-balanced dish. I had been craving steak, an uninspiring selection, so I ordered the NY Strip with maître d'hôtel butter. While we enjoyed our wine, Patrick returned to offer me a choice of five different knives, displayed in a wooden box. He explained each one and asked for my choice. I told him I would go with his recommendation, and I got something simple called "The Knife," a hand-hammered piece of fine cutlery. The steak was perfectly cooked, although I personally found it under-seasoned. I like a salty finish on my red meat, so Patrick promptly brought me a small dish of fleur de sel, and we were in business. My sides were whipped potatoes and carrots, both of which were good, but the potatoes were presented as if plated with a large ice cream scoop, which made them appear fake diner potatoes. Even Jane called it out as an unusual choice. The carrots were perfectly cooked and had an almost citrus finish. For wine, we had selected a Chardonnay chosen by the sommelier as a special for the evening, and it was good but not transcendent, while the Chappallet red blend on the menu was absolutely exquisite. Powerful and smooth with a great finish. For dessert, I had planned to order the warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream that I had seen on the website, but it wasn't available. Instead, we ordered something called the Dubai Cheesecake. Dubai chocolate was something I was vaguely aware of, but wasn't entirely sure what it was. Patrick assured us that while the dish was hard to describe in terms of a flavor profile, it was a killer bit of confection. He wasn't wrong. It was crunchy and creamy, complex in its simplicity. A transformative dish, and we're not even big dessert people. I won't pretend that any of this was a bargain, but excellence rarely is. I'll admit to a bit of sticker shock when the bill arrived, so be prepared to drop a few bills. But if you're looking for great service and food, you won't find anything better at the Jersey Shore than Sax at the Reeds. It's worth a special trip.
