Ryan checked me in and was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. He could answer every question I threw at him! Sadly he was the bearer of bad news and had to tell me things that were not included in the resort fee since it was the weekend after Labor Day: No lounge chairs. No local transportation :( Pros *Beautiful room *Big room *Refrigerator in room with removable shelves so a wine bottle fits! *Big shower *Comfy bed *Great blackout curtains *Slight view of ocean *Nice clean gym *Starbucks in the lobby *Always 2 people at the desk- no waiting *Nice beach bar *nice lobby for meeting up *Easy parking *Chairs and umbrellas already set up on the beach *impressive amount of stuff in the mini store off the lobby. Cons *Closet bad layout- no room for long dresses due to safe in the middle. *No skirt hangers *Phone handle did not work- had to use speaker to call front desk. (This was quickly resolved) *No bicycle in the gym. *No ab stuff in gym *Once "Summer's" closes (midday?), you can't get an espresso based coffee drink *Only a rain shower head in the bathroom. Requires contorting body into gold medal gymnastic poses to clean all body parts while not getting hair wet *Shower cap at front desk, not in the bathroom. *No ledge in the bathroom Would definitely stay here again despite the appearance that the design of the room and bathroom was probably done my a male who only travels with a carryon! (Not a woman who overpacks for every situation, mostly wears long dresses, and travels with enough toiletries to make Dolly Parton look like a light traveler.)

Well my Icona stay is now complete. I have stayed at All three. Icona Diamond Beach, Icona Cape May. Now Icona Avalon. Which is the biggest beach resort. They also have a restaurant. Outdoor Bar section and a much bigger resort. This one is the most expensive of them all. My first stay was at Diamond Beach. I love the small amenities that they Include such as chapstick, typical soap and lotion. They also now include a small hand sanitizer. They also have slippers that you can have. Robes and towels & anything else missing would be an additional fee. We prepaid for our room in advance and don't get me wrong we wanted the ocean view room and we paid dearly for it. My husband wanted me to have a very special mother's day. My mom was out of town so I couldn't be with her. I definitely enjoyed it. My husband said we had the high ballers room lmbo. That it is! We also ordered enhancements. The fruit Tray and the meat tray was super delicious! Loved the way they arranged the platters. My only disappointment was it wasn't in the room even though I pre-ordered it. So I spoke to the front desk and they got right on it. The bed was nice and comfortable and the room was nice and clean. The view was amazing... we were located on the third floor. I just feel like when you go off season and prepay you should get a discount which we didn't unless you call a few dollars a discount. This resort has ample parking. Definitely not a problem there. If returning I probably would stick to Cape May or Diamond Beach but "Icona" still is one of my favorite place to visit while in the New Jersey area.

Gorgeous hotel with beautiful interior. Most rooms come with in-built kitchen which is perfect for families with infants/toddlers. Pros: 2 min walk to the beach, hotel provides towel, umbrellas, beach chairs for free. There's pool and hot-tub, neither deeper than 5ft, open from 9am-9pm. Bar right next to the pool. Parking is free. Avalon sports facilities like basketball, tennis courts are 1 block away. Cape May is 20 mins drive away The hotel has two restaurants to serve lunch and dinner. Avalon Brewery Pub is the better option. Cons: Tiny elevator

We are presently in the middle of a stay at the ICONA Avalon. Recommendations from friends about how much they loved their time here and a chance to enjoy the shore after a difficult four months of life in a pandemic made us excited; however, we have been met with disappointment on multiple fronts. Worth mentioning that this facility is doing their part to keep more or less all spaces sanitized. There are hints of lemon disinfectant permeating the halls and hitting you upon entry, signage indicating appropriate COVID guidelines, all staff members in masks at all times, and a clear presence of cleaners. The ICONA IS very beautiful, but our experience has been less so. Times may be unprecedented, but good service isn't. We left our room at 10:45am and returned after 3:45pm to discover our room had yet to be made up for the day. When both of my parents expressed concern over this and requested attention on two different occasions, they were met with indifference and flippant responses. Perhaps they are more than overworked, but this hotel is not at capacity as it's not currently permitted so we are unsure of how this happened. The food is fair; I wouldn't say it's the draw of this place. The wait staff is comprised of nice kids that lack hustle on the work floor. Can't really fault them but can't say it made dining at the ICONA much better. I know it's unprecedented times and I don't want to put pressure on anyone, but with a hotel operating at less than full capacity per state guidelines and the prices they charge, the service has been close to infuriating. If our experience was this poor at less than full capacity, I can only imagine what things will be like when businesses are allowed to open up. Again, this hotel is nice and it has made positive impressions on many, but we are not one of them.

    Welcome celebration champagne.

Absolutely beautiful! This is my fourth time staying here and it's an absolute must stay at the southern new Jersey shore points. It's redone and it has the feel of a small boutique hotel. Very clean, nicely decorated, and always friendly people working. It's right on the beach for a nice walk and in the summer they have an outdoor pool and bar right on the beach. When we arrived this time Justin checked us in and we were celebrating my best friends birthday and he sent up a bottle of bubbly for us to celebrate. What a nice touch :)

I'm really surprised but the 3.5 stars. We just had a wonderful experience staying at Icona. Rooms were spacious and clean, staff was friendly and accommodating. Location is awesome, right on the beach so it's an easy walk to and from your room. Would definitely come back next year.

Great time at ICONA Avalon, New Jersey.

A little dramatic...arbitrary cut-off system. However, nice decor hence the two star review.

A-OK is correct! Visited Stone Harbor/Avalon for an engagement party this weekend and was lucky to…read moregrab a booking with my friend at Desert Sand. Where to begin? A lot of good and a lot of odd! Let's start with what I liked: + Great amenities for a beach vacay! Indoor and outdoor pools, super quick access to the beach front, ample parking for guests, nice sized rooms with a couple of different layouts, that you can explore on their website which is helpful. + Amazing location - quick walk to downtown area, easy beach walk, and close to restaurants and wedding venues. Pretty sure it was exclusively wedding guests staying here while we were attending. + Decent in-room amenities as well - we LOVE a hotel with makeup remover wipes. Free wifi, etc. The not so great: + Rooms are pretty bare bones and drab from a decor perspective. Haven't have an upgrade since the 80s? + The payment process was so wacky. You can "cash" in on a deal if you're willing to jump through hoops (at least in a not so busy weekend in October), like sending in a cash deposit, paying in cash upon arrival...and then getting a $50 visa gift card back. It was bizarre. I think finding accommodations here can be a challenge, so they'll continue to get away with it..but dang. Any seasoned traveller would say "WTF" to this process. + Like other reviewers have said, staff isn't super warm or welcoming. A fine option if you're looking for a cozy spot on the beach!

We had an XE suite which included a common area with a microwave, kitchen sink, and large refrigerator as well as two separate bedrooms both with their own full baths. Each bedroom had two queen beds and a tv. The room was spacious and the shower was nice until we found out our water wasn't getting warm no matter how far towards heat we turned our shower handle. Our room was cold (which was okay - I enjoy sleeping in the cold) but the air conditioner was very loud and was constantly turning on. I thought my bed was comfortable and the bathrooms were nice. There was plenty of parking surrounding the hotel and lots of seats outside around the patio. I didn't mind staying at Desert Sands and it was more affordable than other options in the area. We didn't spend too much time in the room during our 2 night stay, but it wouldn't have been a big deal if I had to spend a little extra time in our room. It felt/looked clean. This was my first time in Avalon and I don't know when I'll be back but I would consider staying here again (as long as my shower had hot water lol).

The rooms are all unique and different. You will also get the amenities that you need. They are very nice and friendly. It is also clean (which when you do a shore house you may not have). The cons: I feel that it is overpriced - in October we paid $150 a night. We had a kitchen in our unit but most of the cabinets were zip-tied shut. There was a sign to wash what we used. For $150 a night; in my opinion housekeeping should take care of that. There is no coffee in the room (but there is a coffee pot??), there is no ice machine or any sort of vending machine or even some snacks behind the counter. We are not your typical Jersey Shore visitors in that we flew in. Had we driven in some of these may not have been as negative as we would have just packed it as long as we knew ahead of time. Wanted to voice cleaning concerns to front desk, but no one there until the morning of checkout. Great location as noted, but for the price expected better quality.
