From the first phone call, they were incredibly helpful, confirming the part was in stock (and at a great price) at their LA location. They told me to come in and see Phil and Brett. I was stuck on a particularly difficult part of the head disassembly that I just couldn't budge. They told me to bring the head in, and Brett--who is clearly an absolute expert at rebuilding these guns--made short work of it. He didn't just fix it; he took the time to show me exactly how it needed to be reassembled. I walked out with my trigger valve, the correct O-rings, specialty oil, and a box of 3-inch nails. Just discovered this place, and I can only describe it as an amazing hidden jewel…read more I needed some fairly basic tools for a construction course and first tried Home Depot, which only had a few of the items and the majority of those were cheap quality Chinese made tools not likely to last very long. The employees didn't even know about half of what I was looking for. Next I tried Harbor Freight, which had everything for dirt cheap, but it was all the same terrible quality stuff made in China, maybe even worse than Home Depot... the place literally smelled like a warehouse for cheap plastic and scrap metal. Finally, I tried Scotty's and Sons in Glendale based on a recommendation, and it was a fantastic experience. Scotty's and Sons had everything that I needed, all top quality American made, at reasonable prices and with exceptional customer service. Everything about the place felt very deliberate, and the tools stocked seemed to have been carefully selected by the owner to reflect the best options available, much like an art curator might do at a gallery. It seems that most of their clientele is contractors who are 'in the know,' but I'm not a construction pro and they were incredibly helpful and patient with me, making honest recommendations based on my specific needs rather than trying to sell me on the most expensive item or giving me the cold shoulder because I'm not an expert in the trade. Maybe this is why they've been around for 50 years! Shockingly, it's impossible to find their info online, they don't have an internet presence and I don't think they advertise... which is why I'm writing this review, to help promote what they're doing. They're the kind of place that reminds you what a great local business can be, and why it's important to support that. If you're looking for fast and cheap, and quality is not a consideration, then this place may not be for you. Bought thousands of dollars worth of products including 700 dollars worth of knuckles for the gate…read moreposts. Our contractor who repeatedly purchases from Calimet told us to buy 800 knuckles for the large gate project. It turned out we only needed just under 500 so went to return the 3 boxes. At 85 cents a piece we are talking a little over 250 dollars of an over 7,000 dollar order. As it turns out my wife who was the one who went to do the return told me one of the 3 boxes was open but we bought by the piece not by the box. So the manager before knowing it was past 30 days said we can only return the 2 unopened boxes. Okay so only 200. She then says there's a 30% return fee. That might make sense if it's a gate opener that can no longer be sold as new, but again these are chunks of pot metal. My wife agreed to the outrageous 30% return fee and to take the loss on the almost full 3rd box even though the receipt will show we bought by the piece, not the box. So it was actually less than 120 dollars return and they still refused.The manager was extremely rude saying the store policy is 30 days to return or exchange. I explained over the phone that the project took longer than our contractor anticipated so we were a little over the 30 days but be reasonable. These are chunks of iron in unopened boxes. It's not like they have a "best by" date. She said "that's your problem, talk to your contractor, no refunds or exchanges after 30 days". She then threatened to call the police on my wife who was understandably upset. Extremely anti consumer company who only cares about taking as much of your money as possible with terrible service. Avoid at all costs. If that wasn't enough, the quality of the product is shoddy. Very rough surface pot iron that's rusted on delivery.
