Dan is patient, highly knowledgeable in fitness and boxing, and the kind of coach who pushes you beyond what you think you're capable of -- all while supporting you every step of the way. I would definitely recommend 187 Fitness whether you're looking for personal training, group training, or a boxing class. Everything you need to grow and improve is there

Dani is an incredible trainer -- knowledgeable, motivating, and always pushing you to your best. He has so much to teach, and if you dedicate yourself, you'll see real results just like I did. One of the things I loved most (besides getting my butt kicked in the best way!) is the strong community built at this gym. It's not a place for people who just want to pass the time -- it's for people who want to get fit, grow, and be part of a supportive environment. I've since moved to California, but if there's one thing I truly miss from New York, it's training with Dani. I highly recommend this gym to anyone ready to commit and transform their fitness!

I am thrilled I found this amazing gym. I mostly swim and do yoga, but since I'm a woman over 50,…read moremy doctor has told me I need to lift weights and do other types of strength training. But I have a hard time doing it on my own - it just seems so boring compared to other sorts of exercise. But Uptown Movement changed this for me. I signed up for the unlimited classes, and I went 2-3 times a week. I've been at it for about two years now, and the difference in my overall fitness and well-being is huge. There is a friendliness to this place, an openness to great diversity in terms of age, race, sexuality, body size and type, language, etc. that is immensely appealing. I like the coaches and my classmates (mostly women) enough to make me want to go. The emphasis is never on how one looks or losing weight - it's always on increasing mobility and strength, especially as one ages. Before I started taking these classes, I had back problems (especially when picking up my 70-pound dog to bathe her), and I often sprained an ankle (weakened by a bad injury in my youth) and sometimes fell (my dog pulls me a lot). For the last 2 years, I haven't sprained my ankle, haven't been injured falling (and have hardly ever fallen at all), and more. And I can now deadlift my weight. In sum, I think this gym is great, and I encourage you to do your body (and mind) a great favor and join.

Dirty machine, garbage on the floor and leaks. I realize the membership is cheap but the least they can do is keep it clean. Signing up to a new gym, you usually give a tour of the facility, talk about rules, show the amenities you pay for and none of that happened. It was sign up online and come in whenever. Not really good customer service... I went the next morning, no greeting or anything clearly I didn't know where anything was, I get it it's 6:00am. I guess it's not part of PF brand to sell pre workout but whatever. There was some damage and it was rusty debris and it was left there 3 days. So I'm like are the machines actually clean3; it serviced. People in the gym playing music hella loud, recording, kinda weird for early morning and it's packed. I started to go a bit earlier so that helped. Overall I'm underwhelmed, didn't really feel welcomed, the community of the gym is kinda stand off ish and being new to the area you're trying to branch out and make friends but this isn't that type of place. I guess there isn't personal trainers either. The black card spa is annoying tbh. I have to go upstairs ask for the machine then come back down and then the machine was broken then had to go back up and ask for another one mind you this place has only 2 hydromassage machines. It's important to note what is important to identify about a gym is that the front desk people should be welcoming, the rules be explained locker etiquette (do they leave clothes overnight etc..), and is the community abiding by the norms. I understand each gym has their culture but this is something to get used to I guess. God forbid I want a tan I gotta go back up and ask and not everyone knows how to do it. I guess I'm only staying because this is the only option for gyms in this area. I would rate this experience a 3.5/10.

Probably an upside, actually, given that it can be cramped and crowded at peak hours. For practically nothing every year (I paid less than $100 for this year for the renewal membership - especially insane in this economy), you get access to 3 platforms, 3-4 squat racks, 2 bench setups, 3 benches for dumbbells, a heavy af leg press, a shock-absorbing treadmill, two bikes, and one big cable machine. That value in itself is insanity. Throw in the basically 24/7 card access and first-come, first-serve AUX and it's no wonder the gym is much more crowded these days. I've also seen a tripod for general use on more than one occasion so at this point I'm assuming it's the gym tripod you can use to record your sets on your phone. I guess the only downside is that this gym is cramped, grimy, and sometimes a bit smelly when people pull up without deodorant. But hey, every gym has their charming points. Still have no idea why it's got a Yelp profile, but I'll always talk up the FWC.
