I've been meaning to stop here for a good while, but usually when I'm in this part of town I'm in a rush, but given it's a Sunday evening and I'm procrastinating on finishing up a home project it seemed the perfect time to stop in with my son and enjoy a meal. It's a small place with a handful of seating, very clean with a wonderful ramen house ambiance. I'm sure the atmosphere is different when it's packed, but it was nice and quiet when we got there which made for good conversation and a great experience. I decided on the Shasho Ramen, and my son chose the Katsu Don plate. There's a 1-20 scale for the spice level, I chose 20 as I'm dead inside. Spice is subjective, so don't blame me if your experience is different, but I didn't find it all that particularly spicy - what I did find though was some wonderfully flavored broth with a perfect blend of spice and notes from the vegetables and other spices. The noodles were cooked proper, and everything was warm and fresh! My son said his katsu was perfectly cooked as well, nice and crunchy and not overly fried. The service was on point, they were on top of things and we were never left wanting. I ordered the niboshi ramen which is a ramen made from fish flavor broth. The broth is rich and flavorful. I suggest adding vinegar as needed if the broth is too rich for your palette. The noodles were cooked perfectly and add good chew. The one area of improvement I would recommend would the meat. The meat in my order was really dry and tough. It was so tough and dry I wouldn't consider it chasu pork. The meat is more like a thick cut of jerky than chasu pork. The service was friendly and quick, so no complaints there. read more

Found this restaurant yesterday while running some errands and decided to check it out since it was raining and I could go for some warm soup. Turned out to be a great choice. The inside of the restaurant is a bit smaller but it's very cozy and the inside is super cute. The bar seating has dividers which you can pull out to give yourself privacy or close if you would like to sit with a friend. All the staff were very kind and attentive. We were greeted as we walked in and the man working cleared a table for us as soon as he could since it was full and a party had just left. He was super friendly and took care of us pretty quickly. Halfway through a women took over for him, she was super nice as well. Great staff all around. The food was delicious, I ordered the garlic bomb ramen and added an egg. This ramen in particular came with one piece of pork but it was a pretty decent size. The flavor was great, just the right amount of garlic to where it didn't completely overpower the broth. My friend ordered the chashu ramen which he said he enjoyed. This was the perfect meal for a rainy day to warm me up. Overall both were good but the edamame was steamed too long (presumably) leading to it being too soft, but it was well salted and served hot. I visited Ichitaru Ramen on a sleepy Friday afternoon. One of those odd time of the day where it's too early for dinner but too late for lunch hours and many Asian restaurants shutters for lunch breaks. The restaurant is located in a strip mall where the laundromat is nearby. Parking was ample, spacious, and free. Too bad the same couldn't be said about the inside of the restaurant. There were only two tables occupied upon entering but I wish I had walked out there and then. The only seats available for table for two had crumbs and wet looking grease stains everywhere on the table itself and the seats. It was also right next to the entrance and the table next to us with extremely noisy couple. The other tables on the opposite side of the restaurant was entirely occupied by two tantrum throwing shrieking toddlers and the parents who were too busy eating and did nothing to reprimand. The service was polite but slow. The only server in the restaurant was too busy on her phone and wasn't paying attention 90% of the time. The ordering process itself took good 10 minutes of waiting while I got to listen to the motor mouth man sitting right next to me. The woman at the table couldn't bother blowing her nose for whatever reasons so she snorted her nasal drips every other bite. It was both disgusting and unpleasant just to sit there. The man also finished eating well before her so he kept mansplaining away about what makes a ramen shop "authentic" and all the other "impressive REAL Chinese restaurants I have gone in Santa Barbara" " do you even know where Santa Barbara is?" Ugh. Once the food arrived, I realized every napkins we had at our table already had red oil stains or soy sauce stains on it. The plates and bowls were also scuffed up and made of cheap reusable plastic. I'm not a huge anti-plastic everything. However, scratched up or chipped plastics do leech into food and also harbor all sorts of nasty bacteria. Given how poorly cleaned this restaurant was, I doubt the kitchen cleans them thoroughly. The water cups had stains on it and was already at the table upon getting seated. Never know who sneezed at the table or misted everything with their spit as they're eating and talking. The food itself was interesting. My spicy miso ramen broth was rather watery. The chashu toppings were not anything I have ever eaten before. It was thinly cut but very fatty and tough to chew it. It tasted very meaty but otherwise had no flavors. The dumplings were ok. I actually ended up walking out the restaurant before I finished my food. I got completely overwhelmed by the noise pollution coming from both ends of the restaurant. The shrieking toddlers running around across the conjoined wooden seats and the man next to me loudly stirring the empty water cup with ice while talking nonstop nonsense. And the music that was clearly not loud enough to drown out all those noises. It got too much. My dining companion had to get up and go tell the server to give us the check and takeaway boxes. Nobody was able to leave and we were essentially all waiting for her to put her phone down and check us all out. It took another 15 minutes for my dining companion to return to our vehicle. I cannot describe to you what a relief it was as soon as I exited the restaurant. It was so peaceful and quiet. Almost like I just returned from another world altogether. Maybe I just visited on the wrong day or something. The food wasn't horrible and the service was slow but still polite. But due to the way how the interior is set up, the lack of cleanliness and slow service, I doubt I will ever return again. read more

We had dinner here and the food was fabulous! I had a Sapporo because why not, the pork buns and the Garlic Bomb Ramen. The pork bun, where to start, my mouth immediately got a burst of flavors, the chunks of pork paired with the sauces was just absolutely delicious. Talk about their ramen not just any ramen, the garlic bomb. To be honest it was my first time here but I was sold when I saw this on their menu. Another great find that made me feel like I was in Japan. Upon entering and seeing the individual seating with a curtained window to serve you directly. Besides that experience, e are always in the hunt for good ramen. In comparison to other ramen restaurants, the immediate noticeable thing was how thic pieces of Chassu Pork you get. Other than their Chassu Ramen, the other ramen dishes that include Chassu pork, you get two slices of chassu that is thicker than most restaurants. The bowls were also filled to the brim of the bowl with a lot of filling. We went for lunch and there was no wait at all and the service was fast and accurate. The food we ordered were all delicious. The pricing is higher compared to others, but for what you get, it is well worth it and understandable. Coming back for sure to try the other ramen flavors. read more

My daughter gets the fried chicken ramen everytime we come and this is our fav Spot. when she got the chicken, the fried is all white looks uncooked and the chef does not seem accommodating. He just asked if my kid wanted pork instead. I'm vegan so I get the veggie ramen and now I'm worried something is wrong with my food and my appetite is lost. I'm so disappointed. Interesting ramen shop that reminds me of the ones in Tokyo. Chashu ramen was decent. I liked that the portion was just right for me, but for others, it might not me enough. My friend's fried chicken was too dry. Garlic edamame was tasty. Service was okay. Food came out fast and our server was polite. But don't expect anyone to ask if you want water, the check, or anything. It's very much a self order place. My husband and I used to love this place. There have been hiccups in the past and some inconsistency, but we kept coming back because flavor-wise, when it's good, it's our favorite around here. That said, there have been several times when the food was too oily. They also always charge for extra onion and bamboo shoots, yet there is barely enough to justify the $1.50 price. If that amount is considered "extra," it's not worth the five pieces you get. These issues were brought up before and were usually addressed with an apology or store credit. Unfortunately, our most recent order will be our last. I can't overlook or justify finding a foreign object in my food, and my husband also got sick that night. We didn't bother contacting them this time since they typically only offer store credit, which we won't need because we won't be returning. The best ramen in town. I was highly impressed by the dishes. I had the wonton ramen soup and it was so delicious. We also ordered some potstickers that were so good. My only thing I will let other customers know is that they have a spicy level that ranges from 1-20 and I really enjoy spicy but level 5 was probably at my limit. Hidden gem located in a little strip mall. This place had excellent service our server I believe his name was Sam displayed excellent customer service very knowledgeable and gave really good recommendations. The ramen was good we got a spice level 12 and it was very manageable to eat with a good kick at the end. The takoyaki was very creamy and the pieces of squid inside were also very good. I like the fried rice the only thing is that it was a bit bland until our server suggested adding chili paste and that really took it to different level so good. The place was a decent size although it did have a weird smell I think it was the durian. They were also playing all the bops and it was an overall enjoyable experience. Would come back! Been here a few times this year. Always a pleasant experience with very helpful staff. This last time we went as a family and the owner came out after our meal to greet us and ask us about our meal. He also spoke to us about their rewards program. We all thought it was very cool that he came to our table. Great experience! Great food!! Very large portions that none of us could finish. Didn't seem to expensive for us (even though our daughter treated us for this lovely meal). Will definitely come back and refer family and friends to come experience this spot. 10/10 read more

After eating a few bites of my tempura shrimp my stomach began hurting, i can only assume either the fry batter or the oil was effecting both of us, my boyfriend being effected much worse than me. The next morning he woke up with very aggressive food poisoning. Nausea, vomiting and a fever for several hours starting at 7am the next day. It is currently 8pm, and i decided to write this review as we wait for him to be seen and tested here at the hospital In any other situation, i would have enjoyed our experience. the food was good, and the person waiting on us was kind. I don't know what went wrong, have it be lack of hygienic practices when handling food, issues with preparation, etc..... but this kind of reaction from dining there once is inexcusable. i hope they look into what could have happened, or else they could continue to make people really sick read more

Wanted to be cute and sit at the single spots just like they do in Japan but they also had tables for parties of more than one. Garlic Bomb Ramen was exactly that, Bomb! Love that you can pick Shoyu, Miso, or Spicy Miso base. Opted for Miso and it was just how I like it. So funny, keep in mind they have 20 levels of spice. So been coming here for years especially before moving out to the Coachella valley. So was looking forward to trying it again, was always one of my favorite ramen places when I lived in OC. Unfortunately once we walked in, it smelled funky. Almost like if you were next to the restroom. So took a bit to get use to. It was really busy and I noticed still they only have one server for all the tables. But she was on it for everyone. So great service from her despite them having her be the only one with a packed restaurant. The ramen is still good but wasn't feeling the chatsu this time. We both still ate most of it. Of course they have a wide selection of ramen and tried almost all of them but have my favorites. So anyone new can look forward to having options. I feel as though the majority of the people eating in there have gone there before, because most people are patient and were quick to order. Still giving it a 4 because the majority of the time between my first review and now we're positive experiences. It was probably busy because not everything was opened on New Year's Day and it was very busy. Like I said props to the waitress, think her name was Sam, for keeping up. Funny, because I'm just usually meh about wontons and this first try could have tanked quickly. The wontons were pillowy goodness and the shoyu base had that warm hug feeling of yumminess. I ordered a side of seaweed salad and received a very generous portion. I really should have taken a picture of my delicious meal... next time for sure.
