This place is awful. Everything about my experience was terrible. It started with an employee opening the door as I approached and saying "you going to eat here or what?" I mean, it's a restaurant, I guess I'll eat. Like, what else would I do? While the service was weird and awkward, my main complaint is that I ordered the snow crab based on the ingredients listed on the menu. It reads verbatim "shrimp tempura, crab, topped with avocado & real Alaskan snow crab meat." Cool. Perfect. That is exactly what I want. The only problem is that is came covered in some disgusting mayo based sauce. And of course I got it to go and didn't realize it until I got back to my hotel. If it comes with a mayo sauce, just let me know. That way I can say "no mayo." So yeah, I essentially bought a role I couldn't eat. The ambiance is deadly quiet and uncomfortable. I was so happy to get out of there. This was a legitimately terrible experience. I feel like they live in large part to single serving customers from the hotel next door (which I am currently staying at). I came here because it was close to my hotel and I was hungry. I was not expecting much. The spicy yellowtail hand roll may be the best thing I have ever eaten. The mackerel (not pictured, I ate it too fast) may have been the best I've tried outside of my trip to Japan. If I wasn't leaving Houston today I'd have come back for dinner. Terrible restaurant especially for lunch. Our waitress couldn't understand English nor speak to us. She didn't know what we ordered. Then there was barely anything vegan friendly on the menu so of course I had to order from the appetizers. I got the tofu dish and steamed rice. Both were mediocre and okay at best. The flavor was to be expected. Nothing extravagant. Nothing special. Of course, the steamed rice was solid. They wouldn't even bring out the steamed vegetables. I asked the owner, our waitress (three times), and another waitress - all three didn't bring my order. It took forever for the rest of the table's food to come out. I had to beg for them to bring out the steamed vegetables which I didn't get to eat during my meal. It was until after I got my tab and about headed out the door then I received my steamed vegetables. Oh and the vegetables wasn't worth $4. I'll take a picture of it and have y'all decide. Ended up giving that to my dog. Unagi hand roll was good as always but you can't really mess that up. Spider hand roll was salty af! I had to get some water after that one. The Sake cado hand roll was the best one moist and refreshing. The seaweed is very chewy on these hand rolls I don't know if that's normal. The smoked salmon was ok but I've had better at other places. Sad to say it but the best part of this meal was the ginger. We came here for dinner one night while in town for business. It's a decent size restaurant with an option to sit where they cook in front of you or sit at a regular table. We got there around 6pm and it was pretty empty so we had no wait. We were sat quickly and brought drinks. Food was decent. The gentleman cooking was nice and fun. We sat at the bar and I'm happy we did because we met one of the cooks / sushi makers his name was " Nacho" and said he worked mondays & he made our experience great!! The waiter was good also but not as friendly as him and also when we needed little things like plates to put the soy sauce or anything in general he was there to ask which makes the experience great , and I value someone who knows how to give great customer service ! I have no problem treating myself and thought I was doing just that tonight with sushi.. 41$ and a 9$ tip. Sorry but my meal is not great.. it's not even tasty.. I asked the Matsumoto a few questions like was this roll cold or was the protein blended or sliced.. his replies were like I offended him and honestly he could use a little training in being a considerate and helpful host.. Came in for lunch during the week and had a great habachi experience. We started off with some soft shell crab and shrimp tempura. The soft shell crab was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I really liked the fact that there wasn't a heavy batter on the outside of the crab. After the appetizers, we had the filet habachi. The meat was super tender and everything was well seasoned. I washed it all down with an ice cold Sapporo. What an amazing place to come to, a person gets great food and a great show all in one. Our chef was very talented, while he inter acted with all of us while he was cooking 5 different types of foods. We all got our drinks and a nice house salad with a very tasty dressing. After we all ordered, our chef started out by cooking our rice, and that was a show in self. He then he started cooking our vegetables while preforming and then he started on our meats. I had ordered teriyaki chicken and steak, Angie had got steak and lobster while Jason had steak and shrimp, Jaxx had chicken fried rice. Then another steak and scallops for Theresa and one more steak and shrimp for Pat. From start to finish, it was a great experience and a wonderful show. After our chef had finished cooking he stayed to make sure everyone was totally satisfied and then bid farewell until the next time. What a great day to spend out with the family. I thought this place was much better. First off the appetizers alone were on point. We tried several things for appetizers. I had the tempura shrimp, dumplings and egg rolls. All were fresh and fantastic. Next up was the Hibachi salad before the meal. The Hibachi salad is crabmeat with greens. Not sure what the dressing was for the salad, but everything came together with so much flavor. There were also some type of won tons in the salad for a little crunch. For the Hibachi I got the steak. The veggies, the fried rice and the steak were all amazing. The service was also impeccable and the chef did his thing on the grill. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy Hibachi. It's not as fancy looking on the inside as some other places, but don't let that fool you. read more
