The staple is on the tip of my wife's finger. Smh

We found a staple in our white sauce and called up there an all they offered was a new one.

my plate! check out all the yummy caviari on top of the sushi roll. I got seconds of almost everything on this plate.

Typical Asian buffet. Low cost foods and left with a tummy ache. Ate some dessert that wasn't so bad. I'd never go back.

Great dinner at this Asian-fusion tapas spot on eclectic, college-town-style, foodie-heaven 9th…read moreStreet. The interior is decidedly upscale, and the heated outdoor patio is great as the weather has cooled. We ate outside on this trip. Reservations were honored to the moment, and we were seated promptly. Our server was funny and charming; they helped us navigate the menu and decide how much to order. We decided on the Pulled Beef Short Rib Wonton, Brussels Sprouts, Ahi Tuna, and Brown Butter Pot de Crème for dessert. Pulled Beef Short Rib Wonton: The wontons were perfect--5 pieces of crunchy, freshly fried wontons surrounding morsels of juicy, tender, and flavorful beef, adorned with a smear of pepper-basil jam to add some sweet texture. Each was served on a dollop of creamed chèvre to add some tartness and a sprinkle of cilantro, because you always need some cilantro. Brussels Sprouts: They were a great combo, broiled here with fresh mint. That's a unique Brussels sprout combo I'd never tried before, and while counterintuitive (to me, anyway), it was delicious. Ahi Tuna: Exquisitely prepared. Seared on the outside, encrusted with sesame seeds, and raw in the center. Top-quality tuna. It was adorned with fennel and pomegranate with swirls of avocado-coconut crema plus unagi sauce. Artfully plated and delicious. Brown Butter Pot de Crème: Shout out to the dessert! This is something I'd never tried before. It's a rich custard (think crème brûlée) but infused with brown butter and caramel to give it a dark brown color. It's sprinkled with black lava salt on top. Try it with those butter cookies. YUM! Definitely a cool place for a delicious experience. Go!

Juju (9th Street - Durham) Although we live in North…read moreRaleigh, we've been spending more time exploring Durham's restaurant scene. This time we tried Juju on 9th Street for lunch. Parking couldn't have been easier. We found a space right out front in the lot off 9th Street and walked straight in. It was a quiet Thursday afternoon, so we were seated immediately. The dining room has an elegant, relaxed feel, and with only a few other diners it made for a peaceful lunch. Lunch for two came to about $80 plus tax and tip, making this one of the more upscale lunches we've had recently. We ordered: * Crispy Brussels Sprouts * Shrimp Dumplings (6) * Mongolian Beef * Grilled Lemongrass Hanger Steak Salad * Unsweetened iced tea The Food The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were a great start. They were crisp on the outside without being overcooked, and the mint, peanuts, and pickled onions added both texture and freshness. It was also a large enough portion for leftovers. The Shrimp Dumplings were excellent. The flavor was outstanding, and the Thai chili oil, garlic, scallions, and sesame worked beautifully together. My only criticism was the portion size. At six small dumplings, they felt a little pricey for what you receive. The Mongolian Beef was probably the best value of the meal. The beef had a nice sear while remaining tender inside, and the portion was generous enough that we had leftovers for another meal. It had a nice overall flavor as well. The Grilled Lemongrass Hanger Steak Salad was good, but not quite at the same level. The steak had good flavor, but the cut itself was somewhat chewy. The accompanying rice was simply prepared and didn't add much to the dish. The flavors were enjoyable, although slightly sweeter than my wife prefers. Service Service was excellent. Our server took the time to walk us through each dish, explaining ingredients, spice levels, and preparation so we could choose items that fit our tastes. We especially appreciated her knowledge of the menu and her attentiveness throughout the meal, my iced tea was never empty. Overall Juju offers an attractive setting, excellent service, and several very well-executed dishes. Our biggest challenge was simply that much of the lunch menu leans toward spicier offerings than we typically enjoy. While we probably wouldn't return specifically for lunch, the dinner menu appears to offer a much wider variety of choices that fit our tastes. We'll likely be back to give dinner a try.

We were seated before that time, but were kept waiting at the hibachi table for ~15 minutes before drink orders were taken. Our server cleared bowls once and refilled drinks once. Someone at my table ordered a piña colada and apparently it was mostly alcohol. Other than that, our chef Moses was great! He was funny and entertaining, and the kiddo across the table really enjoyed him. Obligatory volcano onion, no egg tricks, but happy faces made with the cooking oil and set aflame. My partner and I cleaned our plates. A bit too much onion (thick pieces) and just zucchini with it for the veggies. For some reason the mushrooms were served separately, but they were seasoned well. The lemon with the shrimp was great! I had the scallop and it was cooked well, tasted great! Beyond the longer wait times, we generally had a good experience. Pictured: butter with rice before cooking (that was not even all the butter).

If you're looking for a smaller cozy venue and enjoy sampling dishes that are done with intention,…read morethen M Tempura is that place. We pre-booked the Omakase menu, a fixed price tasting menu that was honestly a deal regarding price point. We would have been satisfied with the first seven dishes even before we got to the tempura tasting. Standouts included scallop toast, chawanmushi, and scallop tartare. At this point we were more than content with what we already sampled but committed to finish. The tempura featured prawns, lotus root, lobster and more scallop. And if that's not enough, we were presented with a miso marinated sea bass in a rice bowl garnished with nori, wasabi and pickled daikon. We finished with a divine ginger ice cream, perfect in size , flavor and consistency. M Tempura is your choice if you're seeking an intimate spot featuring well crafted, delicate flavors with attention to detail. This experience was a memorable one.

Had a date night here (sat at the bar- which you can reserve online), and did the "Kaiseki"…read more(Japanese tasting) menu. It's about 10 courses for $130- and I felt it was well worth the price. The quality of the fish was great, the flavor combinations were unique, and each course was different from each other (I appreciated only one course- with 4 items- was tempura/fried). You can add on additional tempura items at one point in the meal, and you can add on a wine and sake tasting. My favorite courses of the meal were the FIRST "seabass sammie" and the brie tempura (get the add on if it's not included in your menu!!!!) Some of the courses were interactive (I.e. cooking lobster in butter) and made for a cool, fun, and unique experiences. The restaurant is small and cozy (limited seating, so make a reservation far in advance), and both the waiters and the chefs were extremely friendly and engaging (sit at the bar counter). Really enjoyed all of the food, and an opportunity to wear something nice, and to eat something different (than what you're used to in Durham). I appreciated they had 2 other tasting menus, for cheaper prices (one was only $38), and that every tasting menu was VERY different from each other (makes it easy to come back multiple times). Would highly recommend M Tempura, and will definitely be back!
