Had a random sushi craving and this was the only place open around Chico during Covid-19. Did a quick yelp search and ended up here. Ordered dragon roll, spicy scallops roll and flour battered squid balls (takoyaki) togo. They were all really well made (rice could be better for sushi rice) but it's Chico so I let it slide. On average it was $12-13/roll. Not too bad for 2 people, the total for all 3 items was around $32 I believe. The service was quick, we didn't order in advance bc the line was constantly busy. We waited around 20mins for the food, which wasn't bad since we chilled in the car. Would come back, I noticed they have a huge menu and lots of Japanese options including alcoholic drinks. The tacos at this place is where it is at. I tried their energy specialty roll and it wasn't too impressive in taste and combination of ingredients. However I always leave here wondering why I paid half a C note for such little food. The Energy roll has become very mediocre to me; I've tried the Chico and the crunchy roll to break it up once and they were even more boring. The service is just passable. The bill with tip for two people was around ~$45. 2 sodas, 1 appetizer, sushi roll, soup, dinner combo. Dragon roll, curry chicken katsu and the baby octopus. First off, I doubt this restaurant would survive long with the competition in the bay honestly. So I probably judge more harshly than other posters because I expect more... The dragon roll was so/so. Better than safeway but does not compete with any restaurants in the bay area. The chicken katsu with curry was also only so/so. I dont care for the quality of the chicken used. Maybe it was frozen too long idk but if you are like me and know what i mean by it tasted "chicken-y" than dont order it. It would have been more tolerable if it was fried a little longer (more crispy). The curry tasted like it was from strait from a jar/packet. Not the worst thing but also not impressive. The side salad was not my favorite at all. It was a french dressing with a little bit of ginger maybe? But it was watered down with too much mayonnaise for my liking. I also prefer the traditional Japanese sweet miso/ginger dressing so I was disappointed. The baby octopus had a very distinctive sea water flavor so Inam guessing it was probably getting old or was not rinsed enough [no, it did not make me sick]. It was not terrible but it over powered the sweet sesame sauce they were tossed in. I also prefer when they are lightly tossed in a bread crumb batter and gently fried. But i admit, i am picky. The highlight, however, is that they do give you a decent amount that would satisfy at least four people. The service was decent. Food came quickly despite being about ~80% packed. They also give you decent portions. I had enough for leftovers the next but I have a small appetite. Probably wont try it again but if you dont set your standards too high then you will probably walk away mostly satisfied. read more

Unfortunately my family and I had to walk out after ordering. As we were sitting waiting for our food we observed a man (lewis) who was making our food with bare hands rub his nose and then touch his hair within a few minutes of each other as he continued to make our food. We were disgusted and had to leave. Upon letting our waitress know the reasoning for our departure the other staff were not concerned and rather irritated at this. I got to witness all of their smirks and carelessness as they did not realize I had stayed behind to pay for the appetizer we did get. There was no supervisor to talk to so I left my number and hopefully some more training can be done on proper food handling hygiene. We will not be visiting this facility again nor recommending it to others. read more

Stopped in today around 1pm with a few of my friends. We were seated quickly amongst a busy Tuesday afternoon full of guests. We ordered a bottle of Unfiltered Nigori after I had asked about a basic Sakè to try that would pair well with our lunch. This tasted sweeter and not as dry. It had a creamy consistency and was easy to enjoy. We ordered the Japanese Tacos and Takoyaki as appetizers. That seemed to be the standard as my party did not need to look at the menu. I was today's years old when I had fried Octopus dumplings and I will say, that right there? That changed my life. Oddly enough, this may be my new favorite snack. Up next was the Chico Roll & I had also ordered the Crunchy Roll. I'm biased sometimes with Sushi because I always get something deep fried. The pictures stopped there as I enjoyed the rest of my meal. The food was fresh, tasted great and I would totally come back again. Thank you guys! read more

Love this place! The Chico roll is and the Japanese tacos (crab is the best in my opinion) are delish! I love that they recently added a bunch of new stuff to their menu, so much to choose from. The best part, is that for how much food you get the price really isn't bad (compared to other sushi's places). 2 Cute little patios (well behaved dogs welcomed) and the service had improved greatly over the years. We entered and asked for a seat outside - we noticed music inside, but wished there was music outside as well! Our meals came with a miso soup that had tofu, green onions, & seaweed. Took the first sip and it was on the salty side! Chased it down with some sake bombs for the salty-ness.. Oyako- the chicken & egg rice bowl was combined with the salad (that's a first!). If the salad was separated from the bowl, then the it wouldn't have been so warm & soggy, making it not taste fresh. Bento box- not much flavor on the beef, came with small pieces. Now to the sushi rolls... there weren't too many selections to choose from, but we ordered the Dragon roll and Omakese roll (chef special roll). Too bad when the Omakese roll came out, the server DID NOT explain what was in the chef special roll.. we had no idea what we were given! Perhaps the server didn't know what was in it? disappointing.. Both rolls were drenched so much in unagi sauce, there was no point in using soy sauce. The portion size of the roll was decent (not too much rice). Overall, our experience was below average - the waiter & busser asked several times if we were finished, which made our dinner experience felt a bit rushed... we just wanna relax on a Saturday evening! (Phone clicks) When I arrived to pick up my meal, I told the guy at the register that whoever took my order was really rude and didn't let me finish. As he responded in a short tone with "what else do you want?", I realized it was the guy from the phone call. I'm so bummed. I know it's hard because of COVID-19, but this was unacceptable service. I have been going here for some years now. So, yesterday i went in for a bite, it's been a while since I came here. Let me tell you gross! Rainbow colored sushi! And bad I don't care service. And the nasty carpet! I won't be going here again. Please owners figure it out. One roll had nice pink tuna coloring and the bento box tuna had a rainbow color to it, meaning it's been just sitting around. I was told it's just a different cut. I have tried this place twice now and it had been a miss on both occasions. The first time around I got their Japanese tacos and they were so stale. This time around I tried their spicy ramen. There is an unwelcoming man in his late 30s or so that appears to run the restaurant (white man), he sarcastically and inappropriately complains and makes fun of customers. Get rid of this guy!
