Sushi Dinner with California Rolls Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura
Kami S.

Instead of our usual Labor Day barbecue, we chose to have dinner at my family's favorite authentic Japanese restaurant. Ichiban never disappoints and we always leave feeling happy and full. Their portions are extremely generous and filling! We always leave with food left over for another meal. Everything is always made fresh and service is always top notch! Our highlight for every meal is seeing Masako and Tom! No wonder this restaurant has been in business 39 years and counting!

I hadn't been to Ichiban in nearly 20 years because I had moved, but man, what a gem! I am so glad this place continues to thrive in the community! The food was great, prices were fair, service outstanding, and the restaurant is the same as I remembered it. We ordered the 3 item combo with steak teriyaki, vegetable tempura, and California rolls. The steak had a couple fatty pieces, but otherwise was cooked great. The tempura was literally the best I've ever had. Sooo crispy and light, not overly oily and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The CA rolls were delicious and fresh. The ONLY (small) complaint I had was that the side of white rice was a bit starchy/gummy. Maybe it had sat or overcooked? We also ordered a rainbow roll, 1 piece of halibut sushi, and 1 piece of eel sushi. It was all amazing and fresh. Good portions for the price. Lastly, the give free edamame for the table and it was perfectly cooked and perfectly salty! Stop supporting all those chains and keep these small, family owned places in business instead! The owner literally walks around to check on you and make sure your experience is perfect. Can't ask for a better night out supporting a place like this!

Gem of a Japanese family restaurant sitting inconspicuously (no signage) in the corner of a large strip mall. Next year is their 40th anniversary and you will be able to see why - good food, friendly service at excellent prices from this original owner who still visits the tables to check on you. Excellent sushi, tempura, teriyaki and all the Japanese favorites in generous portions at still family run restaurant prices. A must try if you are in the area! They also sell their popular salad dressing to go!

This is our new favorite family owned restaurant. The owners and staff are all sooooo amazing. They treat every customer like family. The care they put in just amazes me. We made reservations for a large birthday dinner, changed the number of people, then had to change the time, and they were so accommodating. They made the birthday honoree feel special. The food is good but the service is impeccable. A great place for family and large groups. They have food for both adults and children to enjoy.

Edamame when you sit down! Awesome.

Family owned sushi place buried in the back of a plaza. We came right before closing and they couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. A dish of edamame came right away and we got started on that. For dinner we got 4 pieces of albacore, a spicy tuna roll with soy paper, a tempura udon and a poke bowl. Spicy tuna roll was as expected. Nice spice level. Albacore looked good but my kid ate it all before I had a bite. Udon was a big old bowl with a rich broth. I requested broccoli only for my veggie and they obliged. It came out crispy and piping hot and was a generous portion. My poke bowl I asked to be spicy and no salmon. It comes with tuna, salmon and yellowtail. It was a heaping serving for $19 with chunks of avocado and some cucumber on the side. The yellowtail was a ***touch*** fishy for me- but I'm not a yellowtail fan normally. The tuna was very good and loved the temperature. The gentleman helping us I assume was the owner and he was so friendly with my kids. Even though we were there right before closing I never felt rushed. This place isn't fancy but had a great atmosphere. Would for sure come back!

Love the food, great service. Prices are great, you get plenty of food that taste delicious. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

‍ Halloween sushi in Brea is seriously too cute…read more Even the sushi is dressing up for Halloween this October haha! This time we visited Chubby Sushi & Ramen in Brea, a cozy Japanese spot with warm wood tones that's perfect for a casual meal with friends. They currently have two Halloween specials For takeout, the Halloween Combo is $99 instead of $116, and includes Chubby Sashimi, Chubby Ninja Roll, Brea Roll, Crunch Roll, and California Roll -- perfect for sharing at a Halloween party. For dine-in, if you spend $60 before tax, you can choose either a Halloween Roll or Halloween Appetizer. The Halloween Roll comes with fried pumpkin, spicy crab, salmon, and avocado, topped with sauce for a sweet, savory, and slightly crispy bite The Halloween Appetizer features fried pumpkin topped with black truffle salmon, jalapeño, onion, and seaweed salad -- and the presentation is so festive! We also had the Chubby Sashimi, loaded with salmon, tuna, sweet shrimp, uni, and more Plus Yellowtail with Jalapeño, Fresh Oysters, Chubby Roll, Tempura Combo, and a hot bowl of Ramen. If you're looking for a little Halloween vibe while craving Japanese food this October, this is such a fun one to try

Two of my kids got sick after eating raw fish at this restaurant. I contacted the restaurant…read morebecause I wanted them to take the situation seriously and investigate whether the sauce served with the fish could have been the problem. I was NOT asking for a refund or money. I simply wanted them to look into a potential food safety issue so this might not happen to other customers. Instead, they were dismissive and responded, "Report it or whatever you want. We'll handle it with our insurance." There was no apology, no genuine concern for my kids, and no indication that they cared about investigating what might have happened. I understand that the restaurant may not know the cause immediately, but I expected them to listen and take a possible food safety concern seriously. Their attitude was what disappointed me the most. This was never about money. It was about my kids getting sick and wanting the restaurant to care enough to investigate. Unfortunately, their response left me with very little confidence in how they handle customer safety concerns. I will not eat here again.

I may have just discovered my new excuse for not driving across town for sushi…read more I'd actually been here before for happy hour, which I enjoyed for the value--drinks, a variety of bites, and enough sampling to convince myself I was conducting "research." But I wanted to try the sushi before officially handing out my Yelp verdict. Verdict: this place is going into the rotation. We ordered the 20-piece omakase, and I liked that the chef wasn't afraid to get creative. This is definitely not traditional sushi, and that's a good thing. Yuzu and other unexpected touches were worked into several pieces to complement the fish and add some personality without turning every bite into a chemistry experiment. The service was excellent, too. Our chef even threw in a few extra pieces--which I will never object to. Free sushi is one of the few things in life that requires absolutely no convincing. I also love the location. It's close enough that this could become one of those dangerous neighborhood spots where "let's just grab a quick dinner" somehow turns into an omakase and a couple of drinks. Creative sushi, great service, good happy hour, and conveniently close to home. Basically, everything I need to make this a regular stop--and everything my wallet probably didn't need.

Hmm. I'm glad other Yelpers had a nice experience and food tasted great to them. For me? Not so…read moremuch. Presentable, semi-atmospheric spot, if you're trying to get a quick sushi in the area and don't have any opinion about quality then this would be your spot. Employee's seem to be quick about delivering your food to your table after ordering, after that it's kind of up in the air for customer service so beware. But let's just say, I don't think I'd ever come back even if you paid me. Just another mediocre sushi spot in Brea with fancy inviting atmosphere. Not to mention the rice tasted old as if it was yesterday's rice. FOOD Mango Tango Roll As mentioned, probably one of the rolls to get any flavor and not have an off-taste. The Jalapeno helped out but soon after, you're left with a tasteless experience. Crispy Salmon Nachos Just above mediocre with decent flavor. It was bearable as it didn't have any of the rice. I wouldn't mind getting this one again! Fresh Water Eel Eel is my go-to and usually would have a few plates but again, the rice. It tasted like rice that sat overnight and has that awful smell and taste. Spicy Rainbow Roll I'm glad they tried to make it a bit presentable with just a bit of sprinkle of sesame seeds on top. This is kind of a staple of sushi rolls and every other place I've visited to order this roll, it's never this terrible. The slice of fish for each roll seemed too dry, as if, again, could be expiring ingredients. The rice...again, tasted awful. Must've just been a really bad day for us to choose but please. Change up your rice or use fresh-made rice that's not a day or 2 old. Baked Green Mussels Ok. So this was the only thing we really enjoyed. This came out last as I feel it needed some time to work on but after eating our rolls, it was such a relief to have something that was flavorful. OVERALL Call it our mistake for not planning ahead on where to eat for that day (Saturday, September 5, 2026 @ 3:20pm) but other than the quality of the food, I highly recommend hiring employees that are competent on attending their customers, not ones who flirt with each other behind the counter and conversate amongst their personal life. If you're going to do that, at least do it where customers can't hear or see. Other than that, I'd reconsider the food quality cause with the inflation of everything, not worth paying for when you can get something similar at the Stater Bros. or Smart & Final sushi section.

The broth smelled a bit like curry at first, then the whiff of garlic set in. The noodles were speckled, and they were pretty good, but it was a block, so I made sure to let them warm up in the soup. The egg was very cold, so make sure you let it heat up a bit. Generally, it was tasty. However, there were only a few pieces of arugula. I think they could add more toppings in there! They also had all-day Happy Hour deals on Wednesdays. Loved the decor of this restaurant, just an incredibly cool vibe with elaborate Japanese-Mexican fusion art, neon, and even a huge rainbow color-changing tree in the middle of the dining room. We had calamari, corn ribs, steak tacos, king roll, dragon roll, pork belly bowl, and everything was well-cooked and tasty. The hot sauce they give is hot, fair warning! The dishes are complex with lots of varied flavors, which is a good thing because it's not just simple and boring, but it does take time to read the menu carefully. That's probably on us, lol. We visited on a weekday evening for dinner and found that the restaurant had largely retained the same look and layout from its days as TAPS. The restaurant was nearly empty, with only a couple of other occupied tables during our visit. While the menu offered a variety of options, it looked limited and, more importantly, significantly overpriced. Signature rolls ranged from $24 to $26, and even a simple pork-and-rice dish was priced at $25. We ordered the Chicken Tequila Cream Pasta, the Dragon Roll, and two fish tacos. Unfortunately, this is where the experience took a disappointing turn. The Dragon Roll, despite its premium price, looked very basic, consisting mostly of rice with very little filling. The quality and presentation reminded me of sushi from a grocery store counter. The Chicken Tequila Cream Pasta was essentially chicken Alfredo with red bell peppers, served with a slice of basic buttered toast. The fish tacos were another letdown. For $16, the plate included only two small tacos with no rice, beans, or side dishes, just the tacos themselves. To make the experience even more unpleasant, there were no complimentary appetizers, such as bread or edamame, to enjoy while waiting for the meal. The food overall was underwhelming and did not justify the prices being charged. The one bright spot was the service, which was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Overall, Geisha failed to deliver the quality or value its prices suggest. Save yourself the time and money and visit virtually any other restaurant in downtown Brea instead. You'll thank me later.
