Direct to Reykjavik from Seattle? Yes, please! Friendly flight attendants, comfortable 757s, and hot food for purchase on board is more than sufficient for such a great deal on airfare. This is an easy way to get to one of the most unique places on earth. They often have really sweet fare sales on flights not only to Iceland but onward to many cities in Europe. Sign up for their emails and give them a try! Iceland is AMAZING! Icelandair is the way to get there. read more

Wow, what a joke this company is. If you can fly a different airline to Iceland please do and save yourself the headache of dealing with a company which has zero respect for it's customers... I bought and paid for their "extra leg room" seats ($65 each) and when I boarded the plane the seats I selected were their regular seats, which are extraordinarily cramped. I asked the flight attendant about this and she said, Oh this happens a lot since they change planes. In reality, their booking system is completely screwed up as the plane model was the same on my return flight and had the same exact issue. So they have a known problem which they won't fix, red flag one. Second, they will gladly sell you a seat which doesn't exist, red flag two. I'm directed to contact support over the web for my refund, in reality any reputable airline would refund your money with a simple phone call for this type of blatant screw up- This is an obvious AND KNOWN error on their part which would warrant swift resolution. But no, I open the ticket and here were are 6 weeks later with no material response from them. They are obviously desperate to keep their $130 and hoping that giving me the run-around via email will get me to forget about it- red flag three. At this point I am done with them and will be pursuing a refund through my credit card company. Lesson learned, never deal with these desperate low budget airlines that nickel and dime for any little thing. read more

Terrible experience. We were a party of 3 and booked months in advance only to find on the day of our flight to Seattle that our seat assignments were scattered all over the airplane (in center seats of course) rather than sitting us together. Apparently they want to extort more money from you in order to seat people together!!! Sleezy!!!! Better to use WOW airline instead. You have to bring your own entertainment and the service is no better but at least its a lot less costly than sleezy Icelandair! read more

Worst experience ever, I would try everything I can to avoid IcelandAir in the future. In a quick summary, both our departure flight and return flight was delayed by one day, and they lost our luggage for both our departure flight and for our returning flight, and for both flights there were other passengers lost their luggage as well. Our departure flight was cancelled and delayed by one day, so 3pm departure 7 hour flight became a 6am departure 15+ hour flight plus transfer time. When we arrived, they lost our luggage! All of them! And we are not alone, a couple of other passengers lost their luggage, too! They gave us a number to call to check the lost luggage status, I called multiple times and no one ever answered the phone! Our returning flight had an emergency landing due to airplane's mechanical/electrical problem, and the landing was at 6pm. It took 4.5 hours for them to send us to an off-airport overflow hotel. And when we were waiting for hotel arrangement in the airport, we were told that they would book re-routing flight for us, or we can book the flight ourselves and call their number to let them know, so they will cancel their re-route reservation and reimburse us. We called their number. It took 2 hours before someone answered our phone, and halfway through the conversation, the phone got dropped, then it took another hour before we were able to talk to someone again. And we were told that they will NOT reimburse us had we bought our own re-route flight! We were very close to bought our own at that time, because it was Dec 26, and many people were flying back from vacation so it was really hard to find any tickets at all! Eventually their airplane was fixed and we were able to return the next day. And when we arrived at our final destination airport, we found that our luggage was lost again! And we are not alone this time either, another lady and her son lost their luggage too! Again, they gave us a number to call. After two hour waiting time, they told us to call another number, which no one answers! Update: We sent them email checking for our lost luggage, made it very clear that our luggage was lost on the re-route flight of the returning trip. They replied and said they have checked and all luggage were loaded onto the original return flight! They are so careless that they lost our luggage twice in one trip, and they are so careless that they don't even bother to read your email to understand what went wrong for their customer! No wonder we had so many issues with them in a single trip! read more

Great way to go to Europe from Seattle, while using an Alaska Airlines partner. However, only 3 * at Seatac because even flying business, we don't have TSA pre-check like in other airports read more

Icelandair in the Reykjavik Airport ... boo! We had previously laid over in Iceland last summer. At that time we were surprised as their inefficiency in boarding passengers. Our flight was delayed by almost three hours with no communication as to the why or the expected departure time. They held us in a long hallway the entire time. There were (literally) no chairs or benches to sit on. Fast forward to yesterday 5-24-18). We purchased our tickets to Amsterdam in October. As we had printed out the itinerary (yes, an old school hard copy!) prior to our departure we had seat numbers assigned as well. All good? Again, no seats to wait at the gate in Reykjavik. Are they unaware of senior travelers or what? As they scanned our boarding passes it was discovered they had changed our seats. I ended up in row 10 and my husband in row 28. We were told they would rectify the situation. 30 minutes later they still had not figured it out, all the while we waited patiently onboard where they had us stand. Then an official looking woman came onboard with a walkie talkie and told us bruskly those were the only two seats that available and that we'd better sit down. No apology from the airlines whatsoever. It was extremely embarrassing as we'd been stared at by the surrounding passengers for the past half hour. She was unbelievably rude. Then to top it off, when we got to Amsterdam our bags weren't on the plane. We were assured they would be brought to our apartment in town tomorrow. Next year's trip to Europe will definitely not include Iceland air on our itinerary. read more

It's been almost a year since I traveled with Icelandair, but having gotten a number of requests recently to share my experience, I thought I'd plop a review on Yelp as well. I flew from Seattle to Amsterdam and back, via Reykjavik last October. In a time when most transatlantic flights cost over $1,000, I was very pleased to snag my tickets for just over $600. Frankly, given this price difference, I would give the airline 5+ stars, but I don't want to further inflate anyone's expectations, so 4 stars it is. Overinflated expectations are really the root of most people's complaints with this airline, I think. People feel they are entitled to a cushy seat, a free meal (so that they can complain about "horrible airline food"?), and their own personal servant. I, on the other hand, have no problem packing my own snacks and I don't need a fake smile as long as I am treated well. All of my flights were no less comfortable than any other airline, and the attendants were perfectly professional and helpful. The personal entertainment screens were great, and the music/movie/TV selection wasn't bad at all. On my flight back to Seattle, I bought a sandwich, which was actually pretty tasty. Our quick layovers at Keflavik airport were speedy and efficient, and flights arrived at their destinations on time. Basically, if you feel you deserve first-class service, go ahead and pay for it. I am just fine with perfectly reasonable service at an equally reasonable price, and I would fly with Icelandair again (no, seriously, anyone want to take me to Europe again?). read more

Horrible.customer.service...actually.no.customer.service. Icelandair did an ok job getting me across the Atlantic. Different story when it came to my suitcase. They lost it. I realize this happens. Problem is how they handle it. The only contact point they gave me when I filed a lost luggage claim was an email address. They never ever got back to me. I emailed them repeatedly and they simply ignored my mails. They then have the CEO send me an automated mail to request feedback and I fill this out and again this is ignored. Then suddenly a late night a small private car comes by and drops my now suitcase. Contents wet and hole in. Without even calling ahead. Horrible customer contact. Will not check luggage with them again and that probably means I need a differnt carrier. read more

Never again will I fly this airline. The airplane is an old model 757. The captain keeps the cabin at oven temperature and ignores passenger requests to lower to a reasonable level. The cabin crew were ok. Online check-in is also poor. Tried checking in to catch flight from Munich and the flight didn't even show up for check-in. When I called, I was told this was a Scandinavian airlines flight and to check with them. All I got was crickets when I pointed out the flight was booked through their website and had an Iceland air flight number. In short: uncomfortable planes, poor service on board and non existent customer service. read more

The people at the front desk for check in were friendly and helpful. So much so that I was surprised but I liked it. The people at the gate were very businesslike but still friendly and helpful. Onboard the plane I was treated in a respectful yet friendly manner, not overbearing nor over polite. The flight was the least expensive I found from Seattle to Amsterdam with a stop in Reykjavik, Iceland. I flew SAGA class and was well treated. I also took my dog with me though she had to fly in the cargo hold. She made it to our final destination just fine. I can't say how the people in economy and economy comfort were treated. My meals were better than I expected. I'd definitely fly with them again. read more

Added one too many bag on one of my flight and contacted them right away about it. They refused to help me out, it is the worst customer service I ever had. read more

Worst ever customer service. The flight crews are the only exception to the rest of this write up as they are nice and working within the constraints placed upon them. The customer service sucks! They cancelled my flight from London back to Seattle one hour before take off. Their telephone support was incompetent and unhelpful. Someone without talking to me, re-booked me on a flight that got me to Seattle eventually (12 hours late) but they put my baggage on a flight that arrive a day after that. When I contacted customer service for help afterwards, they immediately went on the defensive and sent me quotes of regulations and laws that prevent them from compensating me for having to stay overnight and being without my medicine for 24 hours. All I was looking for was for them to own the problem and try to come up with an acceptable solution or at least an apology. They did none of that so they will continue to provide the worst customer service in the world. For context, please note that I have flown in under developed countries around the world on airlines that would scare you just to hear their name and they were way better than Icelandair. I wish I could give a lower rating than one star but the system will not allow. I am going to encourage Alaska Airlines to drop their partnership because that is counter to everything I have experienced with Alaska. Don't let the cheap prices fool you or the fact that the people of Iceland are wonderful, this airline is the worst I have ever experienced. Avoid at all cost. read more

I love it when people complain about no food or bumpy rides or they didn't like the ride/plane/flight attendants smile. I've flown them four times out of Seattle going to Europe and never had a problem. No food? Jeez people, this is a airline, buy a snack on the plane, at the airport or make one at home. This is a low cost carrier, if you don't like the price, fly someone else. The flight attendants have always been super friendly and the service has been great. The only thing that I'd like them to change is the no announcement boardings in Iceland...but hey, it's a low cost airline...I guess I'll just have to pay attention. read more

Never even got on the flight. Lamar, Wen, and Consuela at the counter wouldn't let me check-in because it was just under an hour til flight time. You can get anywhere in SeaTac in an hour though. I had terrible experience with this airline, no wonder I am seeing the low ratings for this airline. I went to Iceland in January 2019, and the tour company booked our flight with Icelandair. I paid for extra legroom and chose the aisle seat. But on the way back from Reykjavik to Seattle, they changed plane and put me in the middle seat on the middle row. The stewardesses were trying to avoid me after complaint. For seven hours, I suffered horrible and uncomfortable flight experience. Upon complaint to their customer service (through website). All I got is refund for my payment to the extra legroom, no formal apology NOR offering a "goodwill" mileage awards NOR free certificates for drinks like most American and European airlines. I am not seeking compensation, but don't you think they know how to do business? ALL I CAN SAY is... if you fly Icelandair and encountered problems.... Good luck! AVOID them at all cost, cheap fare is not worth it. read more

May 2, 2017 I checked in online for my flight from SEA to KEF 24 hours before. I only received my boarding pass for my connecting flight, and not my initial flight. I flew with Icelandair to Reykjavik once before in 2015, and received my international boarding pass online with no issues. May 3, 2017 I arrived at the airport 35 minutes before departure with no bags to check. I checked in at the counter for my flight around 3:55 PM for a flight departing at 4:30 PM and was told the counter closed at 3:30 PM and that his was mentioned online which was NOT indicated on any of the documentation I received from purchasing by my ticket, nor on my boarding pass. Even though there was plenty of time for me to make the flight, I was told by Tilei Naniloa that she could not provide a boarding pass and that there was no other supervisor around. She re-booked me for the next day and told me that I would not be charged and I would just have to show my passport. Because of this, I missed my flight and was incredibly upset that I was not able to spend my birthday in Copenhagen like I had planned. May 4, 2017 I arrived at that counter on my birthday at about 2:30 PM for 4:30 departure. Olivia, the supervisor on duty, spoke with the Station Manager and others to see if she could discount the price, but ultimately told me that I would have to pay $757.44 to make the flight, even though Naniloa told me I wouldn't be charged. When I did get on the flight, there were open seats despite me being charged again. Summary If the counter is going to close before a flight takes off, I think it should be made clear when attempting to check in, or there should be a way to issue a last minute boarding pass. I think that what happened is incredibly misleading, unfair and poor customer experience. I was told by Nani and Olivia that the boarding past for my first flight did not go through because it was an international flight. However, in in 2015 I received my electronic boarding pass for an international flight with no issues. I could see if I had a bag to check, or arrived later. However, I know that I would have been able to make it onto the flight had Naniloa not originally prevented me, especially after boarding on May 4. read more

At first you think it is a good deal because you get to stopover in Iceland, but then you notice that for a very long international flight (more than 8hours), there was no food included. Secondly, because it is a small company, there is usually nobody at the airport expect during their flights checkin (once a day for 2 hours). So we arrived (Seattle) and didn't have our luggage, and nobody of Icelandair was there to help us with that. It has been already 4 days without the luggage. The airline even hanged up the call, and told us we have to deal with the airport directly. If you are expecting any decent service, I would not recommend you to flly with this company. read more

My daughter and her boyfriend flew from Boise to Paris on April 14. Alaska Airlines from Boise to Seattle, then Icelandair from Seattle to Iceland to Paris. They had no problems at all. Great service all the way. On April 28, they left Paris to return to Boise. Icelandair from Pairs to Iceland to Seattle, then Alaska Airlines from Seattle to Boise. They were suppose to land in Boise at 10pm April 28. When they got to Iceland, there was a lot of snow. They boarded their flight to Seattle, but plane sat on runway for about 4 hours. I am not giving Icelandair 5 stars only because they could do a better job at posting more details on their website about why a plane is delayed. All the status said was plane was boarded. I had to rely on my daughter to text me (thank goodness for that). My daughter said she was told the following reasons of why they sat on plane for about 4 hours: The Iceland airport crew was busy plowing the snow from runway and spraying deicer on planes. Then the deicer truck hit her plane left wing. The lens on wing was damaged. Damage was repaired, paperwork completed and plane was able to depart for Seattle. Icelandair provided free food, drinks, and movies to all while they waiting on runway and while they were in air. When they landed in Seattle, they missed connecting flight to Boise. But accommodations for hotel for the night and Alaska Airlines flight reservation for next morning was already taken care of for them. Everything was organized very well! Many other passengers were in the same situation and were also very relieved that this was taken care of. Icelandair and Alaska Airlines has an excellent partnership. read more

Honestly, a pretty chop-shop operation over all. However, the prices are insanely low if you order before hand and the stop in Iceland is worth it. Yes, Icelanders can be cold but I personally find it more tasteful that fake politeness. If you are traveling with a family then the accommodations might not be for you, but if you are young and on a budget it's your best bet. Flyer beware: had a great experience flying with Iceland Air, but then realized they never deposited my miles into my account with Alaska Airlines (partner airline). After emailing Iceland Air, I was told I could not receive the miles because I had bought too low class of ticket and be awarded zero miles. This was in direct opposition of what I was told both in Seattle and Iceland at the ticket counter where I was assured my number was in the system and I would be awarded the miles. Went to Iceland this summer with my family, we arrived at Reykjavik Airport, but my sisters bag didn't. Several calls back and forth with the airline company, the had NO IDEA where her bag was. Two days and about $1,000 later we get a call from DELTA airlines who was standing next to Seattle police department. They gave my sister a call saying her bag was reported suspicious and unattended by baggage claim. The girl at the baggage check in for Iceland air didn't even put a label/sticker on her suitcase but set it on the belt. An airline we didn't even fly with was able to find her suitcase and notify us. We were never given any apology or credit. I will never recommend this airline to anyone. read more

I would not even give them one star but required. Do not take Icelandair! We booked our family vacation 2 months in advance with Icelandair and intentionally booked a direct flight from Dallas to Iceland. They emailed us a month later and said to call them due to our flight has been changed. They rescheduled our family with one layover going there and two layovers coming back. Coming home they they didn't allow enough time to get our luggage and get through customs. They said leave your bags and get on the plane. They lost our luggage going there and back. We received our luggage 24 hours later. They do not serve any complimentary drinks and food (only water). Four family members became ill with in 24 hours of leaving the plane. Many people on our flight mentioned they were rebook days before leaving with many layover. Beware of their promotions "Direct Flight". With tight turnaround they do not properly clean their plains. Poor customer service on the phone and at the airport. Major problems checking. read more

Have flown this budget airline from Seattle to Paris several times. Over-all good. Biggest irritation is that at Charles DE Gaulle and Reykjavik many boarding lines converge and it's hard to tell if you are in the right line. My husband and I had flights booked for several months from now, and needed to cancel because I found out I was pregnant with a due date just 2 weeks after the trip we planned. First of all, Icelandair customer service was ridiculously hard to get a hold of with a wait time of over an hour each time we made an attempt to call. Then, to make matters worse, when we finally got to speak with someone they refused to waive or change fee even with a doctor's note saying I was medically unable to travel at this time. The only offer they were willing to give was a change fee that was priced at 75% of the total cost that we paid for the ticket...no thanks! Anyways, so disappointed by this airlines and we will plan to use a different airlines next time we plan a trip. read more

IcelandAir is indeed the cattle car of the skies. Do not take it - even if the flight is FREE - if you want (a) a good airport experience, (b) any manner of customer service, (3) anything at all like what you are used to in terms of policies similar to what the American carriers offer. You MUST plan on the VERY REAL possibilities of missing your connection, losing your luggage, not being able to take anything on board with you, and being completely gouged when searching for a last-minute solution. I speak from experience. read more

Coming from Reykjavik yesterday (1 Aug) they mixed up our entire flights bags with those from a flight to NY. So when we arrived in DC - they told us to fill out a form and they'd call when our bags arrived from NY to DC. They said that would be about 8pm last night (they claimed the bags were already on a truck and en route). If the bags did arrive in DC they did not call us. They have not responded to emails to customer service, and here's a good one - they phone number customer service gave me to get the DC baggage desk is a private cell phone (the lady said i was about her 10th call today). So, they mixed up our bags (the entire flights!), did not call when bags at airport, do not answer emails, and the 800-number customer service gives out private cell phones to reach the airport baggage desk. Oh, by the way, that was after waiting 45 minutes (yes, 45 minutes) on hold for someone to answer the phone at customer service (then she was incredibly rude). After reviewing other reviews I am learning that my experience is normal, and I am preparing for a 20-30 day battle to find and get back my luggage, and that I may be lucky to get it back at all. My advice: if you use Iclelandair - do NOT check bags. Use carry on only. Pack light. If you have to check bags, use a different airline. read more

Don't, DON'T, fly Icelandair if you have any other option. We choose Icelandair to fly to London and back to Seattle because it was a little cheaper than all the other air lines -BIG MISTAKE. They use the older passenger planes (757's traded in from other lines) and a lot of the things like TV monitor wouldn't work, cramped seat and knee space, seat cushions were very hard and extremely uncomfortable after a few hours. Very rude and prejudiced flight attendants (there was a group of people flying from Iceland to Seattle whom received superior attention and the rest of the passengers were treated as livestock.) The group were rarely in their seats and hung around the restrooms and isles. My wife tried to work her way to the rest room through the group only to be told by flight attendant to sit down. Be prepared, the ONLY thing you will get on the flight is water (if you are lucky). When you do land in Reykjavik you will have to climb down the ladders they roll out to the plane. When you get into the Terminal you will be met by the same type of accommodations; no room or place to sit and you will be met with the same rudeness by Icelandair personnel if you have a question or problem. Take another airline, any other airline, even if you have to pay twice as much. Believe me you will be glad you did. My neighbor, who travels a lot and had warned me about Icelandair, asked me if I would fly Iceland air again. I told him it depended on how much they would pay me to fly. Those who are putting on positive comments must either be share holders or being compensated for their reviews. read more

I just returned from a week-long trip that I booked through Icelandair. I also booked the Northern Lights package that included a trip to Akureyri in the north, and let it be known that in the package description and on all your travel documents is a disclaimer explaining that the Northern Lights aren't guaranteed due to weather conditions and that the package is NONREFUNDABLE. Anyone who purchases this package and gets huffy about wanting a refund is just trolling. I didn't see the Northern Lights which is disappointing, but I still had a blast in Iceland. If you make it to Akureyri, make sure to either rent a car or book a tour with Saga Travels to visit the Lake Myvatn region. We booked a guide through Saga Travels. Tours require a minimum of two and maximum of sixteen participants, and all the guides are local residents of the region. Even when we didn't see the Northern Lights, our tour guide didn't want our adventure to be wasted, so he drove us to see the oldest church in Iceland. He also supplied us with hot chocolate, and since it was my birthday that day, he gave me a muffin with a lit candle. The flight back was one of the best transatlantic flights of my life. Yes, you do need to purchase food or provide your own when traveling Icelandair. However the payoff is that not very many people fly Icelandair in the off season. So many seats were empty that passengers throughout the airplane were able to stretch out onto their own rows. It was great! Go to Iceland. Spend a few days in Reykjavik and then head into the countryside away from the crowds. Mingle with locals. Try reindeer, puffin, and if your stomach can handle it, fermented shark. We were originally scheduled to fly back to Denver from Reykjavik on July 21,2016. My daughter got REALLY sick on July 19th, so I called Icelandair to see if we could change our ticket to return 2 days early. They said NO PROBLEM. The process is that we purchase $4000 of new tickets (we had already spent $4000 of our original tickets), then a couple weeks later they refund that money, minus the change fees of a couple hundred dollars for each ticket. (we had 4 tickets @ about $1000 each) The representative on the phone clearly stated to me that our refund amount would be about $3500. When we return back home, my daughter was to get a doctors note, and we would get reimbursed promptly. When we returned, she saw a doctor and we sent the doc's note to IcelandAir. We waited... and waited... and here is the timeline: July 26th: I actually sent the first email with doctors note attachment, then patiently waited for two weeks with no response. August 11th: I sent an email asking the status of the refund. August 15: I still had no response from IcelandAir, so I called and spoke with a representative, explaining our urgency. She told me to email to the refund@icelandair.com, and my request would be expedited. August 16th: IcelandAir emailed me, apologizing for the late reply, explaining that there was no doctors note attachment. There in fact WAS an attachment with my email; however, I'm pretty certain their email service was removing it on their end. I know this because I had BCC'ed another one of email addresses, and it was successfully received. August 22nd: I emailed IcelandAir again, checking on the status. August 23rd: IcelandAir told me there was STILL no doctors note attached. August 24th: I decided to place the doctors note in Dropbox and provided the link to IcelandAir. IcelandAir responded that the doctors note was successfully received. Sept 2: I had to ping IcelandAir AGAIN to check the status. Sept 3: I receive this email from them: "Your doctor´s certificate was sent to Refund Department 10 days ago so hopefully you don´t have to wait more than 2 weeks. It´s high season and it can take up to 8 weeks before seeing the amonut on your card account." Sept 4: I receive this email: "Hello Julie, I´m sorry for this inconvenien for you. Refund office is closed on weekends so i cannot contact them today. I will send this to Refund office and ask for quick response." ******************* Sept 12: I had to ping IcelandAir AGAIN to check the status. I then get THIS RESPONSE FROM THEM - THE REFUND AMOUNT IS WAY TOO LITTLE. Instead of a refund of about $3500, it's only a refund of $625!!!!!!! "I spoke to Refund office today. She told me at this tickets was refunded 9sep16 and it can take few days to show on your card statement. Refund was 75 usd,200usd, and 350 USD" *********************** I then question the refund amount: "Wait a minute - I thought the refund amounts should have been for the fare amounts MINUS the change fees? We are supposed to get refunds totaling about $4,000 USD, correct?" THIS IS THEIR RESPONSE: "Hello Julie, I am sorry I don´t know who you talked to but this is the refund you will have from your tickets. I rave about Iceland Air so much it's become a running joke with my friends. I've flown on IA back and forth to Iceland a few times, and it's always a great experience. Their flight attendants are so welcoming and kind! I fly a lot and have flown every major carrier in the US, and I like IA better than any American airline I've flown-- nice seats, plush blankets (that you don't have to pay for...), pillows, and dozens of free movies, tv shows, and albums on the seatback screen. When I flew during the summer they even woke us up with free orange juice and skyr (Icelandic yogurt). Wish they offered more snacks onboard, but it's great that they always have a vegetarian sandwich option. They're also very accommodating in terms of luggage and you are allowed 2 free checked bags. If you're flying on to Europe, use their stopover deal-- you can get off in Iceland and stay for up to a week at no extra charge on your way to or from Europe. It's a perfect way to see Iceland. Many people are surprised how fast and inexpensive it is to get from SEA to Reykjavik; it takes around 6 hours-- pretty much like flying to NYC or Boston. As a bonus, they play calming Icelandic music when you get onboard. I'm in love with you, Iceland Air. read more

Just got home yesterday from our flight on Icelandair from Paris. Yes, it was a great price, however you did not get the quality service that they promote. our flight was running late both out of Paris and out of Keflavik. While in Levesque, we had to board a bus to be transferred to the airliner that was parked in front of another hanger. We ended up having to stand on the bus for almost 30 minutes, which was packed with customers. When we finally boarded, the AC was not working properly took about 15 minutes for the airliner to cool down. The worst part was on an eight hour flight they only did one beverage service. We deathly will not fly this airline again. read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID if you have any mobility issues whatsoever! The airport in Reykjavic only has jetways at about half the gates and many flights arrive and depart far from any gates, so you have take a shuttle out and back. I walk with a cane, and my husband has a bad knee. In Rekjavick we had to use steep steps, in the rain, for both parts of the plane change. For the return I requested wheelchair assistance ahead of time, reconfirmed on checking, reconfirmed at the gate, guess what - no wheelchair. Didn't need one on arrival - there was a jetway. Reconfirmed again at departure gate. Got on shuttle, no wheelchair at the plane. Ground staff got the freight elevator loading supplies to get me onto the plane. Another problem- we were flying first class, again because of mobility issues. HELLO! Bulkhead seats do not have first class legroom! I'm 5'4", and I was cramped. Imagine how my 6'1" husband was doing. I realize this is a budget airline, but that doesn't give them a pass on disabled services, nor does it excuse them from providing the normal perks of first class (which is just about the same price as on a more comfortable airline). Never again. read more

My husband and I booked a multi-leg ticket from Seattle to Paris (via Reykjavik), Glasgow to Reykjavik for a five-day stopover, then back to Seattle. Upon embarking on our honeymoon, we realized that we would not be able to get to all the countries we had hoped, and so we would not make it to Scotland for our middle-leg connection to Iceland. Upon realizing this, we purchased two separate tickets (on Icelandair) to Iceland from Amsterdam (where we were at the time) in order to meet up with our return flight to the United States. When we contacted Icelandair to let them know we would not be able to make the flight from Glasgow to Iceland, they informed us that, as a result, our flight from Iceland to Seattle would be canceled. This would leave us stranded in Europe less than a week before we needed to return home to our daughter. As there was no feasible way for us to get to Glasgow from Amsterdam in time for the flight, we pleaded with the agent to allow us to pay some kind of difference in fare to keep our return flight - she refused. We asked to speak with someone else - she refused. We asked if we could call back and speak with someone else - she said she would make a note in our file so the next representative would know that we have been "informed" about their policies. I asked her if these policies were written anywhere, or if they had been included in my receipt of purchase, but she would neither answer nor direct me to where I could obtain such information. [I have since scoured their website and my email confirmation/receipt - there's nothing included about this policy regarding multi-leg flights.] Our seats on the exact same flight we had already paid $1000 for were now priced at $1900, so we chose to book with Lufthansa (flying through Germany rather than Iceland), which was slightly cheaper. We had to cancel our flights from Amsterdam to Iceland, losing out on $350 worth of airfare. To date, we have contacted Icelandair (beginning September 7) five or six times via email and phone, and have received no response. WOW airlines sounds up-and-coming, and any other major carrier would likely treat its customers better if and when things go wrong (which it sounds like they do - often - with Icelandair). read more

So, if you've flown Southwest Airlines and waited in their cattle call lines for boarding, then you have a good picture of the before and after of Iceland Air. The big difference is that I paid $200 to fly Southwest compared to $3000 to fly Saga class with IcelandAir. For a country that relies on tourism you would think that they would have expanded the airport terminal by now.... we deplaned via staircase on the tarmac, got onto a bus, and then to the terminal. Returning was worse....up and down stairs, no attempt to steer elderly patrons to the elevator (which was readily available, just not easily seen), and no help onto the plane. Business class ($1700 one way) was shuffled around along with the $300 economy class. The experience was horrendous! Maybe now that they have some competition from WOW Airlines they will attempt to up their game. Notes: I flew to Iceland in their Economy Comfort class. I did not know until the flight was landing, that my flight included a complimentary meal - no one mentioned it during the flight. Business class (Saga) was luxurious in flight, with a wonderful airport lounge perk - but the lounge was on the absolute opposite side of the airport from the gate, a good 20 minute walk. So, if you can take advantage of one of their packaged deals, go for it, but otherwise, find another way to get to this lovely country. 3 stars for the in flight Saga service, without that i would have give this airline 1 star: booking a seat required 3 phones calls, their on line process doesn't work correctly, and I had to upgrade myself to Saga on the return because I couldn't trust their info on seat availability other than that, even after 2 phone calls. read more

Flight attendants were not friendly on first leg of our vacation. While on the vacation my wife fell and broke her wrist and had surgery. I called both Priceline and Icelandair and was willing to pay for an upgrade to economy comfort or business class and they were not able to ascertain the value of our return leg to give us an upgrade. They weren't willing to help in any way to make the flight more comfortable for my wife who is in pain and needs to keep her arm elevated. In the end the agent at Icelandair was unwilling to provide her name, let me speak to her supervisor and ultimately hung up on me. I will not be flying Icelandair again! read more

Try to avoid Iceland Air!! I booked round direct flights from Seattle to Reykjavik and back. They were supposed to be 6-7 hours flight each way. Everything went wrong from the beginning of the trip. BOTH the departure and return flight were delayed over 1 day and we luggage got lost TWICE at both arrival at Reykjavik and return to Seattle. And it took forever to get to speak to a customer rep when trying to confirming the rerouting itinerary. First time took me 2 hours (31 calls ahead of mine) to get through. Second time took me 1 hours (20 calls ahead of mine). Details on our ordeal as follows: 12/19, departure from Seattle to Reykjavik: flight cancelled due to Iceland Air employee strike. we got rerouted to 16 hour itinerary. we lost over 1 day's vacation time and had to rebook all the tours in the following days. 12/21, arrival at Reykjavik airport: our luggage got all lost! we had spent the remaining day to buy clothes for the tours into the cold and windy highlands. At this point, we lost 2 days vacation time in total. 12/26, return from Reykjavik: plane landed in emergency in Edmonton AB Canada due to electric system issue. Again no clear communication whatsoever and you have to call the 1-800 number waiting for hours to figure out by yourself. We were arranged into an hotel outside the airport. Then it took me 3 hours to figure out the next day's return flight. The first rep even hang up on me! 12/27, arrival at Seattle airport: our car seat got lost again! I was totally speechless at this point. what's the odd! For my life I've token so many flights with various airlines never got luggage lost and so frequent flight delay. Now I am waiting in the queue again (16 calls ahead of me) trying to get the car seat back. read more
