Each winter Olympics, I watch in curiosity and wonder at the sport of curling. It's a strange event that I really don't understand, which just ignites the fire in me to learn how it works. So when a friend offered me the opportunity to join a group for a "learn to curl" workshop, I was all in! The ice rink is used for different things, but on the night of our class, it was fully dedicated to the group of people who showed up to learn to curl. The instructors were enthusiastic and skillful-making it fun for us to play along, even though we were mostly novices. It was surprisingly easy in theory, but more difficult in practice, just like all sports. With some practice, I could see myself really taking off with this one. (Kidding, it was fun, but nobody's going to be picking me for their curling team any time soon.) I'd definitely recommend getting a group of friends together to take this class. It's well worth the time and super fun-just wear layers and make sure you have good, thick socks and gloves. Duh. It's cold on the ice. And who knows, maybe you'll end up being discovered and land on the next Olympics. read more

Had the pleasure of experiencing my first Ogden Mustangs home game here at the Weber County Ice Sheet and it is an exciting venue for a hockey game. Yes, it is small and cozy with a capacity about 2000, but the lively and raucous crowd definitely brings the noise in support of their Mustangs! They offer a variety of pretty standard arena food choices, though I'd say the on-site pizza vendor has the best grub. The restrooms aren't very large, though given the seating capacity the wasn't much of a wait either. From a design standpoint, I'd say the architect missed the mark by creating a hockey venue that only has seating on the ends and ONE side of the rink--the entire side of the rink on which the players' benches are situated has zero room for seating between the rink and the wall. That aside, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend seeing a hockey game at this venue. Go Mustangs! read more

Ice rink is nice but if you don't own skates you are renting skates that are REALLY old and disgusting. Missing laces, falling apart and filthy as well as stinky. If you have your own skates, probably worth the money. read more

What a great place to take the family! Whether you want to take in a Mustangs game, try your hand at curling, or enjoy open skating, this really is a world class venue, as it was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics. I love the panoramic view on the east end of the main rink - nothing but mountain peaks! Lots of natural light during the day - not common for most rinks. Both lower rinks are available for open skate on Saturdays. Keep in mind, it gets really crowded on Tue/ Wed nights as that is when most church youth groups head to the rink. read more

I've always said once I retire I want to come work at the sheet. Sharpening skates and driving the zamboni might sound weird, but it's my dream job. I've played hockey here for about 20 years now, and there are the same folks here now as there was when I was just a youngin. Doug is the greatest skate sharpener I've ever met. Always perfect and I'm not kidding. I love the new addition with the other ice sheet, it's fresh and new, plus it's a much smaller ice sheet compared to the Olympic size of the normal old sheet. I've only been upstairs once to the new field house area, and I'm pretty sure it is only for Weber State sports team use, but it's awesome! Make sure to come up for a Mustangs game, they're so much fun! You can have an ice cold beer, and a slice from Lucky Slice Pizza! Also don't miss out on the hot cocoa, people love it! I don't really know what else to say, hockey, figure skating, curling, pretty much anything on ice - you can do here! Great place on the Weber State U campus for public open ice skating or to watch a Mustang's hockey game! Plenty of seating and a number of food and drink vendors available depending on the event. My step-son also comes here for practice and games on his Jr. Hockey league. Great family venue! read more

This is a fun place to come ice skating. My kids love it and there is ample seating so I can watch from above. We have taken lessons from here several times and all the instructors have been awesome. They have lessons for all ages. They have snacks that are reasonable priced as well. They rent skates for the whole family and they just recently added a second rink so open skating is not near as crowded as before. read more

$5 per person open skating is pretty great! We went on a Saturday evening, and enjoyed a good hour and 45 minutes of skating. The zamboni ran at 7pm and gave us a nice little break in the middle. Some of the rental skates are less than ideal, but I feel like that's to be expected. read more

I really enjoyed this ice skating rink, im glad I got to go for the first time, a little bit before the winter started. But, I think the pricing was reasonable for sure, and it's definetely in the bigger city center of Ogden. I would recommend you to give this place a shot ;) read more

The Ogden Ice Sheet is a great place to get in and skate. The fees are reasonable if not plain cheap, and they sell hot cocoa which I find to be a must. Also, did I mention that teaching your date to skate is the best way to get to know them? I suppose you could call it a 'hands on' experience. read more

Today was my son and daughters fifth skating lesson at the ice sheet. I watched their tiny little bodies glide out onto the ice with confidence, bypassing the teachers offered hand and stopping in position with their assigned groups, for my daughter Snowplow 1 and for my son Basic 1. They put their arms out like ice skaters, hop without falling, twist back and forth, spin in slow but nicely executed circles, and have learned how to stand up properly after taking a spill. In my sons group they even skate backwards! If all they learned from these lessons was confidence on the ice, I would have been thrilled but they are so so much further than that in only one set of 45 minute lessons, once a week. I couldn't be happier with the teachers, the assistants, the organization, and the skills they have learned. My daughter is rather clingy at times; there is nothing she would like to be doing more than hugging, hanging on your leg, or holding your hands and the teachers are kind but firm with her- showing her she must do it on her own, and guess what? She does. That kind of hands off approach is something I'm not the best at- I'm a big softy. I'd have a hard time saying no and watching her struggle; but this is how we learn. In my sons class they have made a large circle and they are hopping as high as their legs will take them, spinning with their arms stretched out like they are future Olympians, and there is a smile on every childs face. In my daughters group they are scooping up "fish" out of a blue "pool" on the ice and carrying them across the ice. They are having so much fun it never occurs to them they are learning how to squat on the skates, stand back up, and get faster with every trip. When they fall, their only concern is getting back up so they can go scoop another fish. After the first lesson, I never saw another child in tears- pretty impressive when you consider there are give or take a few, about sixty kids out there giving it their all. We have a yearly family pass to come to open skate (this too I am so very happy with, its fabulous exercise that the whole family can be involved in and have a great time doing) and I now am so much happier coming to skate with my kids, not having to hold their hand the whole time and allowing them the freedom to safely skate around on their own. As I type this they are wrapping up their lesson by playing ring around the rosy - boys versus girls. Who can yell loudest? I think the boys win... but fewer girls fell, take that boys! The cost is only $40 per student and includes their skate rental, and six chances to come to free skate in addition to their lessons to practice. We were given $10 off coupons at a Mustangs game so it came to only $60.00 for both of my kids lessons, that's only $5.00 per lesson per child; an absolutely wonderful deal considering the skills they have picked up. read more

Would have been a two star, had Parker not saved the night. I went on my first date to Union Grill, then to the Ice Sheet here in Ogden, and we had a blast. We couldn't figure it out though, almost every single person we saw there gave us the dirtiest looks. Almost as if every single person hated us with all of their hearts. We were still having a good time, had to trade our skates in because they were a bit big, but Parker was the best when it came to customer service. He gave my date a bandage because she had a little cut and even attempted to fix the broken drinking fountain when I made fun of it. On the working drinking fountain though, I'd like to say, adding the head of a sink to it was an interesting idea. You can rotate the curved metal pipe protruding from the fountain to pour water directly onto the ground. Pretty cool. I'd like to say again, Parker's the best employee you guys have there. I wish I had caught his last name in order to be more specific. Anyway, our date went great and Parker definitely helped us out with it, will be leaving a review on union grill as well, we had a pretty bad experience there.
