The #1 piece of advice I have is to make an appointment. I've been here twice with an appointment and it was a 15-20 minute wait both times. They alternate between the appointment and non-appointment line and the non-appointment line was ten times longer in one case. That's around a three hour wait without an appointment! As with other ICBC offices, this one is hit or miss. Sometimes you get lucky and get someone who really wants to be helpful. Sometimes not. I was lucky on my second visit here to be rescued from a "customer is always wrong" employee who thought my number hadn't been called yet when it had been called. The guy kept telling me to wait for my number and sit back down, which would've meant that I lost my number and would have to make another appointment and come back later or wait for three hours as if I didn't have an appointment. Luckily, someone else saw that this person had no idea what they were doing and fit me in, but if they hadn't that would've been a very bad experience. It would be nice if there weren't employees here who do their best to be unhelpful. If this were a privately run shop, I'd give it one or two stars for employing people like that, but if you don't grade on a curve for government run services they'd all rate one or two stars, so I'll give this place three stars when compared to other governmental offices you might interact with. read more

I'm thankful for their quick service but also confused about it. Like, I understood it but I feel it's not right. I went there to renew my address on my ID card. Even I had booked an appointment, I still had to line up in general check-in. Which means wait again. Their service was quick. Way too quick. One lady asked me to write down new address on notepad, and she typed that into their system. Then she printed out a small sticker with my new address. After I confirmed it is correct, she attached it over the previous address. As I was believing, I would have a new physical card. But according to her. It's not. As long as it's not expired, they keep the same card. With sticker or without sticker. That's a difference. But it's official ID. I don't get it. read more

Extremely fast service. Booked (online) my appointment at 10am this morning for a 1pm timeslot visit. Went to Metropolis' ICBC, checked-in at the dashboard, and only waited 5~7mins before my queue came up. Renewed my Driver's License for $75 (standard fee) and got everything done in less than 5mins as well. Perfect service on my first visit =) read more

One of the few ICBC locations that are open past 1700. Parking is plentiful in the Metropolis lot. Too plentiful. Be sure to remember where you parked your car. Hint - the pillars are lettered and numbered. As soon as you walk in, the receptionist asks which service you're looking for, then hands you a numbered ticket. Then it's all about watching the screens. How their numbering system works, I can't figure out. Staff are friendly and cheerful. Nice and quick for a government office. Definitely faster than certain passport places. Lastly, it's a shame one can't smile in photos anymore, or that they've (as of the time of writing) banned Pastafarians from wearing their religious colander hats. Five years ago, apparently, I had my current ID card* issued, and my birthday is coming up, which means I need to waste time and money renewing my ID. Of course all ICBC locations that are transit accessible* to me are only open Monday to Friday, during work hours, except for this location, which is also open on Saturday (but not Sunday, because ICBC can't make things too convenient for people, now can they?). Seeing as I am employed, I decided to try going to this location. I looked up the address on the ICBC website, but what the website, and google maps, failed to indicate was that this ICBC location was IN Metrotown Mall! So after spending half an hour trying to figure out where the hell it was, I finally figure out it's in the mall. I then spent another 15 minutes trying to find it while in the mall, because Metrotown is awful. So I was extremely pissed off. So after at least 45 minutes trying to find the location, I see a huuuuge line up of people. Like Danes waiting for the grand opening of Dunkin' Donuts huge. (If you were in Copenhagen during Easter 2015, you'd know what I mean.) Of course I knew there'd be a wait, but that was fucking ridiculous. So yeah. While this location is open during a non weekday, as well as open late Wednesday to Friday, and is transit accessible (not everyone drives!), huge fail for being hard to find and having ridiculously long waits! (Non drivers who just need to renew their ID should not have to wait with all the drivers!) *I don't drive, so I have a BC ID card. So it's ridiculous I need to renew it every five years, even if my demographics have not changed. Bloody cash grab. read more

I came in here to renew my driver's license and everything went smoothly. They seem organized enough; you wait in line to "check in" and they give you a numbered ticket depending on what you're there for. You then wait around until your number comes up on the board. Renewals seem to be in their own category and depend on whether a camera is available to take a new photo of you. It went fairly quickly for me. It can get swamped at certain times. ICBC has a website to check the current wait times, which I'm guessing goes off how many queue tickets they've printed, so it's fairly accurate. Haha! They call it Expressway. I waited just over an hour to renew my drivers license. I wouldn't call it an express but in general this place is always busy and they are quite organized, it's just the volume that they can't really control. When you come in you wait in line and then they give you a number, you grab a seat and when your number is called they take care of you. Dropped into this ICBC Branch (located in Metrotown) on the way home from our dim sum this Saturday morning -- time to renew my BC ID Card. I arrived and joined the long line formed outside the entrance about 10:05 am. In a welcome contrast to the Lougheed Highway location, where I renewed my BC Care Card last month, the service received here was attentive, personal, and cordial. The wait in line to get inside to the Reception desk was about 15-20 minutes, with another wait inside of about 10 minutes to have my number called, and get to the appropriate counter location for processing (including photo & electronic signature). Total time about 35 minutes - not bad, considering it was a Saturday, with a large amount of people having to be checked through Reception, and assigned for processing. The process itself, was friendly, smooth, and quick -- I surrendered my soon-to-expire BC ID Card, and had my new BC Care Card as supplementary picture ID, answered the personal id question they had on file correctly, paid the $15 charge, had my photo taken, provided my signature, and was out of there. read more

This ICBC location is conveniently located inside the Metropolis at Metrotown Mall, on the ground level near the Bay. It's a smaller office, and doesn't offer any knowledge or road testing. It's also really easy to get to, either by skytrain, bus, or driving since there are tons of parking spaces all around the mall. This location is closed on Sundays and always seems to have a long line on Saturdays. I've had to wait in that line twice: once to switch my Alberta license over to BC, and once to switch my maiden name to my married name on my license. The line moves reasonably fast, so you won't be stuck waiting in it longer than 15 minutes (at least in my experience). The people working at this ICBC location are really friendly and efficient. I have the tendency to look really mean in photos where I can't smile, so it was great that I could see my photo before it was sent away. Although the staff said I wouldn't get my new ID for 2 weeks, I received my driver's license much earlier than that. If you need your driver's license renewed, this is a great location to get it done. It even gives you an excuse to go shopping afterwards! read more

Came to renew my BCID, waited almost 30 minutes and then when my number was called and got to the kiosk the rep pointed out that with the new BC Services card I don't really need to pay $15 to renew the BCID I could just use the BC Services card as gov't issued ID. 1. I was shocked that she actually tried to help me save money (how unlike ICBC) 2. I waited for nothing but because she saved me money I wasn't that annoyed For those of you that are curious I usually use my BCID when I travel because I don't want to risk losing my driver's license but it actually makes more sense to travel with the BC Services (new care card) card so that if something happens to me or I need medical attention I have the card on me anyways. This location has good hours (not exactly mirrored with mall hours) but pretty close. It's convenient if you're already in the mall but other ICBC centers have shorter waits. read more

I found the staff very friendly and helpful and they all seem to enjoy their jobs unlike other customer service desks you visit, and the lines were never too long that I felt I've spent all day there. However I find icbc's policies not always forthcoming (can't renew my motorcycle learners until it's two weeks from expiring, for example) but staff and location were good. read more

I was pretty sure I'd be here all day when I saw the 20 person lineup on a Saturday morning before they even opened. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Once they opened the doors everyone got a number and waited their turn. Which ended up being less than 10 minutes for me, and I was at the end of the line. I gave my information, got my picture taken, and done, my new license is on the way. Staff were quick and efficient with the huge crowd, I was impressed. read more

I came here at 3PM on a Monday afternoon to renew my license and there were about 40 people waiting for service. To my surprise from check-in, to waiting, to getting my photo taken it was only about 25 minutes in total. I suppose if you only need a renewal it shouldn't be a long process here, though other ICBC centres should have shorter lines. read more

The people that were helping us were friendly and diplomatic. The total wait was 50 minutes on a Saturday morning. Get there really early if you are going Saturday. The place was packed. My only gripe is that they have to get rid of the small tables and change them with chairs. People were sitting on the tables. I don't think they were meant for it and aren't ergonomic. read more

I am giving this location props 'cause it is an express station that does ID ONLY with other things. I am thankful for this 'cause I needed to renew my license and I was not in the mood or patience to sit at an actual ICBC center, take a number and deal with it. Just a warning that there is a long line up on a Saturday which is what happened the first time, however, honestly I was more in shopping mode at the mall than actually getting important things done. After work, hours depending, is the best time to go. It is a very basic center so don't expect all the bells and whistles the other locations have. They don't do any road testing here. Think about it, how would you be able to drive a car in the middle of the road that isn't the mall kiddie train. The lady at the counter was really nice and allowed me to keep my old ID while the new one came in so that I could have a valid ID for a Commodore show that week (they just punched a hole in the card). read more
