I had to ask him to repeat several times, but I did my best to follow his directions carefully. During the test, he strongly criticized me after I slowed down to 20 km/h right after passing a parked vehicle. I did so because there was an upcoming intersection with both left and right turns, and I was waiting for his direction. I also missed one shoulder check when turning right, but aside from that, I believe I performed well. The results paperwork also was not clear . He checked but didn't tell the reason . Camera was taken off by him I haven't had a proof that he was critusm. Though I accept the result of my test, I was very upset by the examiner's behavior afterward. He told me, "It's your fault, not mine," then tore up a copy of the test paper, placed it on the seat, and left the car without further explanation. His words and tone made me feel deeply disrespected and emotionally hurt. I would like to suggest that during road tests, examiners provide feedback or corrections after the test is completed--especially when the mistakes are related to skill, not safety hazards. I have taken both class 7N and class 5 road tests here. For my original class 7N test, I was using a family member's vehicle, which had a dashcam suction-cupped to the windshield and plugged into the cigarette lighter. Since the cigarette lighter was powered on when the ignition was turned on, the camera would activate when the car was started and shut off when the car was parked, as intended. The examiner asked me to turn the dashcam off during the road test, which is entirely understandable. I unplugged the device from the cigarette lighter power source, which caused it to begin to shut down as designed. Without any further communication, the examiner abruptly yanked the memory card out of the camera during the device's power down process and twisted it harshly to point away from the windshield. Handling the equipment in this way could cause loss of existing data unrelated to the road test, or damage to the windshield mount. Had the examiner simply spoken to me, I would have been happy to remove the memory card from the camera, or remove the camera device from the windshield mount, after it was powered off. Thinking back, I should have said something at the time, but I was too scared of failing the test or pissing off the examiner. With conduct like this, it's no surprise that any applicant would want to record the road test process, particularly since you are contained in a confined space with a potentially unhinged stranger. read more

I said out loud while in the line up, "What's the point of booking an appointment, if you still got to wait." And then a couple of customers agreed with me, and one anonymous customer said happily, "Welcome to the line up, wait with the rest of us." It wasn't too bad of a lineup, everyone is practicing social distancing, which is proper, but still see customers don't abide the rules of exiting the one way door of the office, they exit the exact same door they entered, even though there are arrow signs point the one way direction. If waiting in the line up wasn't bad enough, next came the ICBC service for renewing my driver's license. The attitude of the representative was actrocious. Her behavior towards me was completely acceptable. Demanding tone and not in any way pleasant to talk to. With the masks on and the plexiglass wall separating from counter and customer, it became so much harder to understand the words. And with misunderstanding creates more upset demeanor from the representative. Time to take the photo. Not happy with the first, take another. It's okay not the greatest. And then I said another, and the representative was like, "you get one more shot, that's it!" This ICBC review would have been a more slightly better experience if the representative was more understanding and thoughtful. If you had a bad day with customers, please don't treat other customers worse than the last. Every customer is different and should be treated fairly and with respect. To the ICBC representatives, put YOURSELF in our shoes on the other side of the counter how YOU feel if YOU were treated by YOU. read more

Every 5 years we have to go ICBC driver licensing office to renew the driver license. Richmond opened a new office at Lansdowne Centre and hours are extended - Mon-Fri from 8am to 5.30pm and also open on Sat from 9am to 5pm. It's modern and newer than old location. I came to do my Class 5 Driver's license after many years of holding my N. I guess when you have an exam lined up, you go to a different counter vs. where you need to go for renewing your license. The woman at the desk was extremely friendly and my Driver Examiner was also nice. So many reviews here said that you will never pass on the first try.. YOU CAN DO IT. I did it. I read some reviews on Yelp (and Google - sorry Yelp!) before doing my test there looking for tips or criticisms and I happened to get the guy everyone bashed. Examiner after examiner kept coming out from the office and saying other people's names and finally.. My guy came... and it was HIM. But here's the truth. He was nice and professional. He didn't try and trick me. I think people taking their class 5 are already too caught up in their habits they have acquired from being on the roads. PRO TIP: When you do the test, you gotta act like you're doing your N drivers test! You STOP fully for 2-3 seconds BEFORE the stop sign (do we all do this...? Err.. I'm gonna say 1% of the population in Vancouver really does). You should shoulder check ANY time you go right (or left even though that's not always necessary going into a left turn lane but better to show you have that skill). You have to do a FULL 360 anytime you move backwards! This should all be common sense. If you do this test as if you are doing your N driving test, you will pass. Be cautious. Be safe. I did my 4th & 5th class 4R test drive at this location (Richmond BC) and my last examiner was Paul, I did everything almost perfect, I passed the pre-trip and driving but he failed me because at the stop sign I removed my glasses because with the mask and being a little tired from pre-trip inspection, it was a bit foggy and I found it unsafe to drive like that and Paul took that as a Driving VIOLATION and the 2nd VIOLATION was as per him that I was going 56-57 km in 50 zone and he put it on paper that I was going 60 km in 50 km zone, my car has a GPS Navigation that show zone speed limit and when I saw the speed changed to 60 km, I sped up a bit to get to 60 km and he claimed that it was a 50 km zone and I was going 60 which is a total lie. after he failed me I went to speak to his supervisor and explained the situation, the supervisor told me that he trusts and believes Paul and that I was making things up. driving a little over speed limit is not a violation unless you do that in a school zone or play zone area or you really go above speed limit and removing glasses at the stop sign also is not a violation but precaution. so basically I passed everything but he decided to fail me just because he thought these were driving violation. I called ICBC on Dec 13th and made my official complaint and the Gentleman Mr. Murad told me that the Richmond BC location supervisor / manager will call me with in 24 hours and it is Dec 15th and no phone calls yet. I did 5 driving tests, 2 in Burnaby, 1 in Coquitlam and 2 in Richmond and every examiner have his or her own way of testing and failing or passing, I have been driving for past 27 years and I know the book and all the rules but I find it impossible to pass, I want to get this license so I could either drive as a taxi driver or Uber to support my family but ICBC Examiners don't let that happen. read more

The employees named Irene and her supervisor Bal exemplified everything that has given ICBC such a terrible reputation in the service department, and made their company look very bad. They were abusive, dishonest and unprofessional; but worst of all they were completely unhelpful and wasteful with my time. I had a horrible experience at the richmond location. I have an interlock device in my car for 12mnths.Before the instructor got into my car,I knew I had failed. He had a sour attitude towards me and was very condescending.It was just to renew my class 7,since it had expired. We went threw one school zone,and a few stop sings. No highway driving or even anywhere over a 50zone and he said I was speedin the whole time. I know for a fact I wasnt. I watched my speed the intire time. Also he mentioned I had one hand on the inside of the steering wheel,and inconsistent with observations . I find it absolutely appalling icbc can have the power to treat people this way. It is disgusting the way they pass judgment on the public and basically pick and choose who gets to drive or not...based on their opinion and theirs alone. its just as bad as victimization against colour,race or ethnicity. they should be ashamed of themselves treating citizens this way!! I am so impressed with this ICBC location. Coming here on a Saturday before 1 PM, there were so many people waiting for their number to be called, I was worried that I'd be waiting for more than an hour to get my license replaced. I was pleasantly surprised. The lady at the reception counter was very efficient and friendly, especially considering how many non-English speakers she had to repeat herself to. Once I got to the waiting area, my name was called within ten minutes because they were going through waiting tickets at an impressive pace. There are nineteen counters at this ICBC, most of them staffed on a Saturday, so the line moves extremely quickly. The person who took my photo and processed my license replacement was also really nice and answered the questions that I had, both about the replacement process/timeline and ICBC in general. She explained exactly what to expect in terms of receiving my new ID in the mail, and what to do in the meantime. I'm new to BC, so I really appreciated how thorough and non-judgmental she was because I'm pretty sure I would've been rolling my eyes in my head if I were her. I'll be coming back when my license is up for renewal next year! read more

3 months ago, I tried to get my Cl.5 at Richmond Landsdowne ICBC. I failed cos the Caucasian [E European] examiner gave me a very hard time and severe test. The most difficult part [even for an experienced driver] is after turning into Alderbridge way from No.4 Road , kept on the left lane. After passing Shell Road and sped up to 80 km.crossing the bridge down slope , the examiner told me to keep right[ 1st change into right]; keep right again immediately [2nd change into right]; keep right again immediately[3rd change into right] and finally exited into Knight Street. The distance is so short yet he asked to make so many lane changes on the freeway with 80 km. If he really wanted to reach the exit to Knight Street, he should have instructed me to change lane much earlier [shortly after passing Shell Road]. Note: a seasoned driver would choose to change lane earlier if he decides to exit[far right of Alderbridge Way] into Knight Street ! I failed of course for making several errors[ speed & general skills]. Many people say Richmond Landsdowne ICBC is the most difficult location to get pass in road test. Not sure true or false, the passing rate is about 30% and is lowest when compared with testing centres. Any views from other drivers? read more

After finished the examiner after we finished the road test start filling the paper as he remember every mistake done and then he didn't explain my errors which some were not real. A real frustrating experience in Richmond office, hope a manager can check them and check with the client if they have a good experience with the examiner. read more

Tried to get my class 5 the other day and was failed because I was going 75km/hr on the 80 speed limit. Also I don't HAVE to go 60km/hr at the curve even though It's stated at speed limit. Said I was going too slow to merge into traffic. My friend has gotten ticketed going less than 10km over speed limit. I go on this route once weekly for 3 years and I've never had problems merging there. Reason for failing I felt was unfair and not reasonable. Do not, I repeat, do not get yourself stuck with the Driver Examiner called Nicholas G (With dreadlocks). I've had the worst luck of having him as the examiner and I had friends who also had him, every. single. time. he jokes around with his coworkers forcing you to wait until he's completely done joking around, then he comes over and mumbles his instructions about what you need to do. Can you respect your job a bit and focus on your client? I took a road test there and the examiner was very rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. The examiner was a fat Asian male, about 180cm tall, 30-40 years old with glasses. (I'm just describing his appearance so you know who he is. I have many Asian friends who are nice and intelligent.) His "Agent Number" is 94221. From the moment I met him, he looked very stuck-up and disdainful. I tried to joke around a bit before the test actually started to break the ice and he was indifferent and unresponsive. During the test, he's always trying to bicker with you. My tone was always calm and he's always huffy and apoplectic. He doesn't want to listen to anything you say, so don't waste your breath trying to explain your actions to him. For him, the whole test is a one-way street. After the test, according to both the ICBC book and their website, the examiner's supposed to tell you about the mistakes you made and how to improve your driving skill thoroughly; but he just unfastened his seat belt, dropped a few words impatiently and hurried off my car, so he didn't do his job by the rule. Whenever I opened my mouth, he either interrupted me or was completely unresponsive. He didn't let me finish my question and his answer was entirely irrelevant to my question. The tests are the only time in his life that he can feel superior and like a man and that's why he treats people like that during the tests.
