ICBC is unfortunately a necessary evil. I, along with most of my friends, have had mixed experiences here. The first time I came in February 2021 during COVID, the experience was nice and breezy. I came in to renew my L a bit ago and it was quite busy coming in. I had 2 pieces of ID but as I'm international, I should've brought my work permit too which they fail to say on the site. I had the letter from the Government of Canada on my phone but the lady at the counter didn't even glance at it and was quite rude. When I came in to renew it the second time, all the services were excellent. All three of the staff I talked to were friendly. It really is a hit or miss when you come in. read more

Came to this location in mid February to renew my driver's license. The woman who helped me was a complete bitch. Why do middle aged white woman always have such bad attitudes? If you hate your job so much, go work somewhere else. The worst was when she took my new picture, she then said something to me. I didn't hear what she said, possibly because of the mask she was wearing? I didn't even have 1 second to say "pardon me", and she said in the most snotty voice, "I can't read your mind!" I was shocked that she was so rude to me, i didn't even know what to say. Absolutely unacceptable behaviour. I don't care who you are, you don't talk to people like that. read more

I've now been to this ICBC location 3 or 4 times (my kid took her driving test here - a few times, - and today I had to renew my DL and MSP card). I can't say enough good things about this DMV. Sure, it's not somewhere "fun" to go, and sure, you can count on waiting a while, but as far as DMV experiences go, this site is as good as it gets. I've been here at a variety of times and it's always a 30-90 minutes wait. But on the plus side, it's always very organized and the staff here are super efficient. It's very clean. There are two receptionists when you enter the building to check-in, and they register you and give you a number. There's plenty of monitors and displays that clearly show what number is being serviced and, when they display your number, they also direct you the the appropriate available counter. The counters are very clearly numbered and there are arrows and displays everywhere. It's a well-run machine here. The guy I had today was a character! Super super nice guy. We were laughing and chatting. I filled out a form and signed my name and paid and took my photo (scary!) and voila! it literally took five minutes from the time my number was called until the time I left the building. Pretty painless. I should note that I've only dealt with friendly ICBC folks whenever I've come here in the past. (Granted, I'm friendly with people, so usually they're friendly in return. Perhaps other reviewers complaining about aloof service were cold themselves. I'm not sure. But I've only encountered nice staff here, every time). The only reasons I'm not bestowing five stars? There is designated parking if you're coming here for a road/driving test, but if you're visiting for other reasons, you need to find a parking spot on the street. Today that wasn't easy and I had to park far away (FYI if you're mobility challenged in any way). Also, it was fairly busy when I visited today and there wasn't enough seating for everybody; some people were standing and others waited outside, sitting on the steps by the door. And some of the indoor seating was needing repair or replacement (my seat was all torn up). These aren't major gripes, but sometimes the little issues add up. The biggest issue I have is the lack of free wi-fi here. Since wait times are sometimes lengthy, it really would be nice to have access to wi-fi. Other than that, this is the only DMV I'd consider going to. read more

Extremely bad experience with one of the workers there. She is very rude and give my family hard time. Not sure how did she get this job. Why none of them wear name tags? I would "love" to know her name. Really want to tell her "Stop working in this position if you have a bad attitude. " read more

Every now and then, random acts of kindness pop up in my life, and ICBC Vancouver Point Grey staff did that for me recently. I won't go into details because they are personal - but suffice to say that the staff at the front counter and their colleagues went out of their way to accommodate my particular needs; they were kind, gracious, efficient and transformed what could have been a very stressful experience (i.e., renewing a drivers license) to a time of reflection for me, about how truly compassionate people can be, even when it means more work and stress on their own lives (it was a super busy day at the ICBC Vancouver Point Grey Centre). I just want to say thanks, and to tell the staff that their kindness was appreciated so very much. I echo previous reviewers who note that this DMV experience could be no better than this! read more

I recently moved from the states and I needed to get a license. I came to this ICBC location expecting a similar experience to California DMVs-- hour-long lines, overcrowded waiting areas, inefficient waiting lists, grumpy employees. ICBC Point Grey was the exact opposite. I came in and was greeted immediately by Greg, the guy running reception at the moment. I told him what I needed, I gave him my paperwork and he got me sorted out and was friendly and chatty the entire time. I don't think I've ever met a government employee as happy as this dude. I sat down and waited for three of four minutes, and when he saw I wasn't being (immediately) helped, he opened up a window and finished the rest of my paperwork. My name was abbreviated on my student visa, which could have resulted in some major paperwork and red tape, but he disappeared into the back and came out a minute later to tell me he had it sorted out. I took my picture, grabben a temporary copy of the license and left. If I had been in California, I would have still been waiting in line at reception at that time. Don't dread driving-related paperwork, cruise in here and get it all sorted out with friendly employees and non-existant wait times. read more

* 3 minutes from start to finish - really?!?!?!?! * Wow. I never thought I would have a positive experience renewing my driver's license. Live and learn: 1) I parked outside in an easy to find free street spot. 2) I walked in and a very friendly receptionist asked how they could help me. When I said I wanted to renew my license they printed a number ticket for me. 3) Apparently they sort the various needs into different types of numbers "A" "B" "C" etc. And driver's license renewals are in a category which doesn't have to wait for lengthier things to get done. I got called within 1 minute of getting the number. Seriously. 1 minute! I didn't even have time to read the magazines/newspapers they provide or grab a hot beverage. 4) The agent took my payment, asked a few questions, took my photo, and gave me a temporary license until the new photo license arrives in the mail. The whole thing from entering to exiting was literally 3 minutes. I'm still in shock! read more

Arrived at 6:30 yesterday to stand by for road test. Staff was friendly but over the 8 hrs that I waited, I lost all tolerance for the admittedly benign stuff going on there. During this time, I was too afraid that if I moved while waiting I would miss my name being called--I did not pee or eat. Once I finally got my test at 2:30 I passed, but the parking lot at the end was full so I had to drive through the alley to park out back. Not realising that the test wasn't over I went slightly over the limit in the alley so my examiner failed me for speeding. Now I'm sad. Outcomes of my day: I shamefully inhaled a whole pizza once I arrived back home. I have learnt to hate again. I have descended a lil bit deeper into the chasm of self-loathing. I have made the already regrettable decision to go through this whole process again in 1 month--icbc has broken me. Thank you for reading, I'm gonna go cry. read more

Fast Service but I was surprised that I was not asked/required to take Eye Test to renew my License. Road Safety is key concern for me not only when I drive but also when I ride my bicycle during the shorter days that are now approaching. read more

I've never renewed my license in BC before (I've been here 2 years). I did not know they would take my license and BC services card. Now I'm without photo ID for the next 4-6 weeks and I'm trying to buy a house. I think it's important to tell people beforehand that you will take and shred their ID so they can be prepared for a few weeks without it in advance. read more

Some of the worst customer service I've ever received. Went in today (Monday August 20th) at 10ish to change my insurance rate and pick up a new N. the woman at the front desk was cold, sullen, and rude. She clearly should not be in customer service. If you can't smile, don't get a job working with people. read more

These guys saved my ass!!! On a recent taxi ride to the airport for a business trip that required a car rental I realized my DL had expired. Luckily i Live nearby, jumped into the office, explained my problem, had my license renewed and was on my way in 6 minutes. If they hadn't been so helpful I could have missed my flight for sure. read more

Worst customer service! It's very clear that they want to leave right at 4:30. I came in today right before closing and was met by a lady who was very condescending "we wouldn't want you driving with out a license". Well thanks for the tip but that's why I am here. The last time I came in was May to renew my license and had forgot my wallet, ironically. Last time I was met with the same attitude. If the employees of this ICBC are reading... you should try a little harder to be nice, and maybe pretend to like your job!! read more

Super friendly and efficient. I've been here about 4 times in the last 5 years for license renewals, change of address, my kid's learner's test, and every time has been extremely pleasant and quick. Plenty of parking on the side streets. read more

I converted my Japanese DL in November 2014 and then my wife's license this week. I am consistently impressed with the cleanliness of the facility as well as the personal attention by the staff. A smooth operation and clearly they are hiring the right people. read more

Came here with my mom to renew her driver's license. The person helping us, named Ashan, was rather rude. He didn't smile throughout the whole process and whenever he needed my mom to sign anything, he would just shove the paper in front of her and put down a pen. He never explained what any of the documents were and it's been a while since my mom's had to renew her license (it only happens once every 5 years). I ended up explaining everything and when the process was over, the guy just slaps the card machine in front of us. Not a single word. I ask if we could pay with cash instead and he was like well, do you have exact change? We had exact change but I find it hard to believe icbc carries no money for the occasional cash transaction. Very disappointed in the customer service here. The whole interaction took 5 minutes at the most. If you can't be half decent for at least that amount of time, don't work in customer service. read more

I started Driving in Richmond and I took Four out of my five Driving Tests in Richmond and needless to say not a single one was good, my examiners were never friendly and I always felt as if they didn't want me to pass. For my fifth time I chose to change the area in hopes that would make a little difference, and what a huge difference it made! Aside from the area I was driving in (which was really nice) the Staff at The Point Grey ICBC were friendly and always had a smile on their face. My examiner Katie H. was an absolute delight! For the first time in all my driving experience I felt like someone actually wanted me to pass my test! During the test she was able to notice when I was feeling a little nervous and told me to just stop, take my time and relax, and after that I was able to open up, feel more comfortable and confident in my driving. At the end of the test she told me what it was I needed work on and HOW to fix it. I now have my N and for the first time I am really enjoying driving.
