Ms Cole was able to create a plan to make sure that I was taken care of on my wedding day and had it booked in her calendar with no deposit. Ms Cole was able to style my hair with extensions within 45 minutes (I came with my hair washed and dried)! I was very surprised, but happy as I was early for our wedding. I was happy with my hair and I received many compliments on it the day of and after. Ms. Cole's price was a little higher than I usually pay for professional styling, but within the price range for bridal styles in the area; in fact I think she was a bit low for total service (bridal style with ext) for the area as well. Her location is right across the street from Crazy Pins. She's a busy lady, so you want to book her quick! Ms. Cole was also willing to speak with my via cell, email, and text regarding any questions I had, which I really appreciated being very accessible. Ms. Cole was very professional, kind, and fast! I do know Ms. Cole travels to Chicago once a month to service her regular customers there.

She has performed each of the previously mentioned services for me alone, but the best part is how healthy she has maintained my hair through each stage. I have been natural for a year now, but prior to transitioning Shawana helped encourage me every step of the way because she understood the journey I was embarking upon. She was extremely informative and patient throughout my process. Any questions I had about my hair she took time to explain, but most of all she made sure I was able to understand how to care for it myself in order to maintain its integrity in off weeks. Shawana is not just a stylist she is a teacher. I also have 3 daughters who are natural and the growth I have seen in their hair has been amazing. She somehow manages to address their individual needs and personality each time she sees them. This can be a challenge since they range in ages from 6 to 15, but everytime my children leave they look age appropriate and they are all happy. One of my favorite things about Shawana is that she is by appointment only! Gone are the days of sitting in a salon waiting for a stylist who has 3 or 4 other clients with my same appointment time. I am usually finished within 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on the service I am having. Who could ask for anything more!!!! There is so much I could say about her, but if you don't do anything else at least take the time to do a consultation and determine for yourself the next step you would like to take. She is Fort Wayne's best kept secret, and it won't be long before those appointments become harder to come by as the word gets out. I guarantee it will be worth your time.

My cut was $25, and Liz only takes cash and checks. I saw a credit card machine, so at least some of the stylists take credit cards. Here is how it all went down: I called and first got the answering machine which lists all 10-15 stylists separtely with their own voice mail. I left a generic message and waited to be called back. I beleive I was called back by just the first stylist to check the messages. When I got the call back I asked if they had any appointments available for Saturday morning. I was asked which stylist and time I was interested in. I had never been there before, so I said "anyone, and what are your hours?" I was told that depended on who was working (said like I was an idiot for asking!). I almost said, "screw it, I don't want an appointment where I'm going to be treated like an idiot for asking a reasonable question! But, I went ahead and scheduled a time with her for Saturday late morning. Saturday late morning I get a phone call and it is another stylist (Liz) from the salon cancelling and rescheduling appointments for the first girl who called in sick. So I ended up going in early morning to get my haircut from Liz, who had much better phone manners. Liz did a good job with my hair. I'm growing it out and she gave it a pretty good shape. She styled it with an incredible quantity of product, and if I go back I'll have to ask that she just not style it, just blow it dry. (All the product gave my husband a headache on the drive to the store afterwards because of all the fumes.) I brought in samples of my 'style' and I can't say that the way she styled it had much in common with my pictures. All the product and styling also made it really hard to tell how good the cut was until after I went home and washed it all out. Despite the weirdness of scheduling, and the big hair styling, the cut was solid. I would go back to Liz in a pinch. I'll keep looking for a stylist with my same sense of style, but cuts as well as Liz.

This is a mainly negative review with one small positive (of sorts) compliment to the stylist. It looks like this experience was set up for negatives from the first phone call and not much else was going to change that, so this is not a really unbiased review--she went in already annoyed and upset and looking for the worst. People also have to keep in mind that these ladies set their own hours. They are independent agents which means they work out a deal with the owner, and pretty much set their own hours and method of payment. That is really not unusual in the beauty salon industry these days. As for my own personal experience, I have always been able to get into my stylist. When she was on pregnancy leave, I had no problems booking with one of the other stylists and am very comfortable and pleased with the services I've received from any of them.
