For us, we prefer pork because the beef was a bit tough compared to pork and flavour-wise, not what we're used to. The mini soup dumplings were a bite-sized Burt's of flavour. Nice amount of soup inside. One of our favourites was the fried tofu. It came out freshly fried and crispy. The sauce was sweet and sour (vinegar) with chillies. The sauce at the bottom made it for us! We really liked the chewy texture of the noodles in the Dan Dan noodles. It wasn't too spiced so the kids were able to enjoy it as well. Anyways, here's my misery: We ordered fried bun, garlic broccoli, Wuxi pork rib and chicken fried rice. After ordering via a QR code menu I went to the washroom, but the booth had no toilet paper available. Delightful surprise. Or perhaps they were just having a busy day and missed it somehow. Speaking of busy day, there were only us and another table with a group of four. Perhaps they were occupied with all the orders coming from online or something. We waited for food, checked twice if I placed order correctly, and asked the server if the food was coming at all. Answer was "just wait a bit more". First dish arriving was the pork rib, ~20 minutes after we placed order. Wonderful punctuality. Then next came the fried bun, with beautifully blackened bottom soaking in residual frying oil. Took a bite on the unevenly leavened skin and ...came out nothing but the bland, dry pork stuffing - no juice at all, neither salty or sweet - perhaps to ensure a clean, messy-free juice bun experience. Finally the broccoli and the fried rice. The broccoli had such a subtle garlicy flavor that I could barely taste at all, and the texture was all so soft that close to steamed or boiled rather than stir fried. All so thoughtful that there would never be an garlic after taste in mouth problem, nor would there be any too hard to bite broccoli problem. If you cannot do the cooking fundamentals, go back to a college to train yourself and PAY THE TUITION instead of asking others to pay for your food. It was a bit weird to see the classic Lion's Head Meatballs made this way, with an egg in the middle. The portion was very good though and the taste was decent. The spiced fish wasn't my favorite - while the flavour was right, the texture was odd. I usually like my spiced fish a bit more dried out and with the bones easier to pick out or even crispy enough to just eat. Overall, I may be back to try some of the other dishes. There are a bunch of eateries and I like browsing each one to see what I feel like. Across from Nanashake is Zheng's Juicy Fried Buns. My mouth immediately salivated. I went over to check out their food. A sweet woman helped me with my order. I decided to get a combo, which consisted of three pork and three shrimp pan-fried buns, and wonton soup. My combo ended up being just under $20 before taxes. It seemed expensive at first, but believe me when I say that it's worth every dollar. I paid with a debit card. I tapped and was done. I added a tip into the jar. You get a 10% discount if you pay by cash. I typically don't have any and I'm okay not getting the discount. The woman said that my order would be five minutes. What?! I took a peek at the kitchen. I was there at around 1 pm. There were a good thirty or so pan-fried buns on the griddle. I suspect that they were prepared for the lunch rush by having them as ready as they can be. Sure enough, five minutes had elapsed and she waved at me to come over. I was standing several feet away, midway between Zhang's and Nanashake, sipping on my vegan milkshake. I watched her prepare my wonton soup from afar. It made me realize that this soup isn't your ordinary wonton soup when I saw her put chili sauce and other ingredients in a plastic bowl. I also saw a huge ladle of broth go into another container. Everything was packaged up and given to me in a Fantuan plastic bag. I thanked the woman and left happily with my food. I was also reminded to check out the Fantuan app, as I'm assuming that this eatery is on there. I ate in my car. I had parked on Bogert Avenue, where there's street parking through Green P. I love the app so much that I pay for parking that way these days. A man was trying to pay using coins and was having a tough time, so he asked me for help. I asked whether he had put enough coins to hit the minimum before getting a paid ticket. He said yes, but I feel that he hadn't and was the reason why a ticket wasn't being dispensed. He tried it again and I saw him get a ticket from the machine at long last. Back to eating. I unpacked the pan-fried buns first. They were awesome! They were soup-filled. My past experience with soup-filled, pan-fried buns is that the dough ends up being soggy and the soup leaks out. These ones don't do that. The bottom of each bun is crispy, ensuring that it doesn't leak. The dough has enough thickness to withstand breaking and was so good, being both crispy and chewy. The filling, be it shrimp or pork, was incredibly flavourful and juicy. It wasn't oversalted. It didn't have any fillers. Each one was consistently yummy. I loved the soup, which worked well with the filling. The shocker was the wonton soup. I'm so used to the standard few wontons, boring broth, and a few green onions swimming around. Nope, the wonton soup here is gorgeous and quite the production. It looked aesthetically pleasing with some baby greens, wood ear, green onions, and other items that I didn't recognize, but were yummy. There were something like ten small wontons in the bowl. I poured the hot broth on top. It smelled so good and I got a mini facial in the process! The chili provided a depth in flavour that I wasn't expecting. It wasn't spicy, but it significantly enhanced my experience that I'm going to hate traditional wonton soup now. The filling tasted like the pork filling in the buns. Yummy in my happy tummy. More noodles than vegetables. We forgot to take photos of the dumplings before devouring them. 28 - Green Onion Pancake: Always yummy. 39 - Hot Soy Milk (Sweet): Always good. 71 - Spicy & Sour Soup (L): Very delicious crowd pleaser.
