Surprisingly a great place for a manicure/pedicure which is their newest service. A Groupon deal brought me here so I wasn't expecting too much. Primarily, they do eyebrow threading, but also offer facials, waxing, nail services and henna. The atmosphere was extremely calm and relaxing, which was a nice surprise, as they are located on one of the busiest intersections downtown. I was also their only customer at the time and last one before they closed. It was super quiet with some soothing relaxation music in the background. That, coupled with a massage chair during my pedicure nearly lulled me to sleep. The biggest positive for me was the cleanliness. The tools used and nail station were very clean and the woman who did my services was very meticulous. She wore gloves for most of the pedicure and used hand sanitizer prior to my manicure as well as making sure I did the same. All of the staff were very pleasant as well. Myself and another customer walked in together and the women practically threw us out stating there are three customers she's taking care of but the entire place was EMPTY!!! This has occurred twice now and I would not recommend this place to anyone! They are operating an illegal business as they force customers to bring cash only to avoid paying taxes. I have been going here for more than half a year but after my first 2 visits, the store owner figured out I was going to be a regular. After this, she began harassing me after each appointment for cash and when I explained I don't carry cash, she would act disappointed and tell me to bring cash next time. She even went so far as to lie and tell me that I need to bring cash because what if her machine breaks down? The sign on the door clearly says she takes both card and cash and I have seen many people pay card with no problem. I felt bad and pulled cash from the ATM and paid in cash for a few months. The next time I paid with card and told her I don't have anymore cash on me, she started treating me differently. No more small talk, no thank you, or good bye. Now when I tell her thank you, she stares at me blankly. I definitely don't need her to say nice things to me but the fact that she has always said them, and then stopped after I went back to paying card is a bit passive aggressive. She has given me this same treatment for a few visits now and at this point, I refuse to be bullied into carrying around cash just for her when she very obviously takes card. *Review for nail services only* - my mani and pedi, with an appointment, took almost 2.5 hours. This was because only one person was pretty much running the place, so she would take a break and go do someone's eyebrows multiple times throughout my appointment. My threader was also sanitary in using antibacterial lotion after having had to answer the phone in the middle of my session. I went here for the first time today. The person doing my brows wore a mask and face shield which made me feel safe. She did my brows very quickly, which made me nervous. (There was no one else there so no need to rush) They turned out fine. I also got a lip wax that was very rough and not a lot of care was taken. I was trying to pull my skin tight by biting my lips together and she kept telling me not to do that. So I didn't, but she also I didn't apply any pressure to the skin being pulled, so my lip was completely pulled up with the wax and made the experience even more painful and unpleasant. Despite making an appointment 24 hours in advance, when my sister and I showed up (on time) we were made to wait while they took 2 walk-in customers who had just arrived. AVOID AT ALL COSTS I just got my brows threaded and underarms waxed at iBrow and feel like crying. My brows are uneven and way too thin. On top of that, my attendant was very rude and brusque. She was also not good at waxing--I get my underarms waxed all the time and have always heard how easy it is to remove my hair. Meanwhile, today, I find out that my hair is not easy to remove?? More like my attendant didn't even clean my underarms before waxing (to remove sweat and deodorant), didn't use baby powder to dry the area and make hair removal easier, and didn't pull the strip up in the right direction. Then, she popped out of the room and came back with some tweezers--to try plucking out my remaining field of leftover hairs. That generally would be fine, if I knew where they came from and if they were disinfected!!!! In the end, she knew I was dissatisfied with the waxing so gave me a slight discount. Too little too late though--now my underarms hairs are too short to properly wax and my eyebrows look a mess. DO NOT come here. read more

She kept apologizing whenever I winced and was as gentle anyone could possibly be while extracting unruly hairs from your eyelids...she did a top notch job. Run! Run as far away from here as you can. If you have a Groupon for a facial, ask them for a refund. I was nervous about getting a facial here from the start but the Groupon was given as a gift so I took my chances and made the worst mistake of my life. First off, I made and appointment for 5:30. I was called to ask if I could come earlier or later. I said I could do 5, then was asked if I could come at 6 because they had people ahead of me. I got there at 6 and sure enough, still had to wait. Since I was skeptical, I asked what kind of products they use. I had to show my Groupon so they could determine which products they WOULD use. I only assume that it had something to do with how much was spent that determined if they were gonna use the rite aid brand soap or the dollar store brand. She gave me a robe as if I would take my shirt off while getting on the folded table that felt like it could break at a moments notice. She started by taking off my make up with who knows what, then wiped off the cream with hard, dry tissues. Then put a facial scrub on and practically kneaded it into my face and massaged my eyes with it as well. Then used more dry, tissue to wipe it off. Repeated this process a couple of times with different products (couldn't tell you what the hell she used because she didn't tell me what she was using or why she was using it). Then she noticed my face was getting read. Probably because she took off two layers of skin. Then she decided to rub "aloe" on it to calm it down. Next came the steam. It was used to open my pores for maybe 2 minutes. Next the light was turned on (not on the steamer or magnifier but in the room) and then it was time for the extractions. At this moment, she decided to put two wet tissues over my eyes (because I was told to just close them previously) and who knows how she got them wet because there wasn't a sink in the closet sized room. I felt like she was using a tool (which I've had estheticians use before). I was SCRAPED on my forehead, on the chin, then once on each side of my nose. It felt completely odd as if it had serrated edges but I couldn't see what exactly the tool was she was using. Then the extraction part was over. Next she put a mask on my face which stunk like old lady perfume in the form of lotion that was fished out of a discount box at the flea market. It immediately started to burn. She pointed out the spots where she SCRAPED me and said it was probably from the tool. I still insisted it hurt and noted that using a dry tissue isn't going to help. She finally gave me a damp towel to wipe my face. I had enough at that point and said I wanted to get up. As I was getting up, I noticed the "tool" she was using for the extractions was a BUTTER KNIF. I freaked out and said I had to go. She actually asked me if I wanted to wash my face before I left. HELLO?! I just had a facial. I shouldn't have to was my face! Gave her the Groupon # and got the hell out of there. Came home and washed the exfoliant out of my eyes and whatever else was put on my face. I am hoping I don't wake up with any rashes tomorrow or fungus on my face. I will be calling the health department as well. This is not a service the establishment is equipped to provide. It would be like going to a pet food store and expecting to buy steak for dinner. I don't know if I just happened to come here on an off day, but this salon did not live up to the high reviews to me. There was only 1 person working the store, but since there were almost no customers, I didn't think it would be a problem. However, when I mentioned that I wanted to get a gel pedicure, the manicurist freaked out and made me specify whether I wanted a whole pedicure or just a gel color, because she said she doesn't have the time to do a pedicure. I actually did mean just gel color, but I still found her attitude a bit strange. I also felt like I was rushed the whole time, even though there were literally no other customers until the very end. I asked for the gel on my fingers to be removed as well as a new gel color on my toes, so she first wrapped my fingers in foil with acetone, then began working on my toes. In my experience, the acetone foil is usually removed after a few minutes. After all, acetone is pretty bad for the skin! However, she seemed to forget about them as she was doing my pedicure. I didn't want to bring it up with her because each salon's methods differ a bit, but I definitely didn't like that my hands were unnecessarily soaking in acetone for ~40 minutes. For pedicures, they have you sit on those tall massage chairs, but somehow when I sat there, I could barely reach the UV light machine. As a result, she made me perch on the edge of my seat in the most uncomfortable way. My back felt strained after the session! If you regularly offer gel pedicures, shouldn't you design your set-up better? As for my actual gel color, she clipped my toenails so short that they have been in pain for days. The color itself is ok. They have a very small color selection (the manicurist also basically told me I wasn't allowed to pick any of the colors from one particular shelf, which she said came out so light she had to use 3 coats. Again, unnecessary rushing?) but it seems like they are mainly for eyebrows, so maybe they don't need to have a large color selection. Finally, by the time she removed the color on my fingers, another client showed up. This made the manicurist rush even more, and I was sent out the door with bits of color still on my nails! I ended up painting my nails at home myself just to cover this up. At the end of the day, the manicurist was nice, my gel nails came out fine, and the prices are very reasonable for New Haven. Given its close proximity to downtown, I will probably come back, just hopefully on a day when more than 1 person is working. read more

I had an experience here a year ago that I didn't wnjoy but decided to give them a second chance. There was no one there when I walked in and then suddenly two clients walked in after me. She finished my two eyebrows in 7 minutes. I couldn't believe how little attention she payed to the accuracy of the work she was doing. When I asked to see the eyebrows before she wanted to put lotion on she shrugged as though I was preventing her from getting to the other clients. I asked if she could straight the upper part of my right eyebrow. She went in and then immediately put the lotion on, not letting me see what she did. Well, I got home and saw this: two uneven eyebrows. I had let my eyebrows grow in for a month hoping to get a really nice shape if I was to pay $12 for threading. I was so disappointed and would rather drive to another location than ever be subject to this kind of rude neglect again. So disheartened.
