Getting an estimate from this place is a joke on so many levels, from their receptionist flat out lying, to the "contractor" who showed up to try to sell us ridiculously overpriced work. I would never hire them or recommend anyone else to. We are very familiar with home renovations. We have homes in 6 different states and have hired lots of contractors in CA. We worked with IBA and Ben converting our garage into and Adu unit. After getting some prices we decided to go with them. Ben was very detailed explaining us about the plans and permit process and offer a 3D rendering to visualise what the work will look like. Maor (Moe) Vered of IBA Builders, let me tell you about this guy. If you Yelp IBA Builders it will show one 5 star review which appears to be written by his wife, Maya! Take a closer look and you will find more 5 star reviews, presumably written by friends and family because the dates are so close together. There is even one written by Maor himself! This guy is not to be trusted. If you want to read further I explain some of the problems we experienced with Maor Vered and IBA Builders. This is not a total accounting of how the job progressed and I can only speak to the experience my wife and I had with Maor Vered. He's young, about 34, and he spends a good amount of his time selling jobs. We were remodeling a living room and he initially said it would take about 30 days to complete. At the writing of this review, it's been 5 months. He went out of his way to say his workers cleaned up each day which turned out to just be lip service. There was trash left everywhere! Like most contractors, they are very attentive at the beginning of a job and by the time you get halfway through the project you see less and less of the contractor and his subs. I made it very clear that he had to stop by to inspect and approve work every day his crew did any work. When he did show up he would walk around the job site and placate me, my wife and his sub-contractors as if he was the "Don". Hey, how are ya, how's the family, you ok? Blah, blah, blah. I let him know that I work out in the mornings and if workers were coming early, I would skip workout or leave the doors unlocked. I can't tell you how many times we left the doors unlocked and workers showed up hours late or not at all. One time he said someone would be at the house early and so I gave up a doctor's appointment, that took weeks to get, only to have them show up hours later. Eventually Maor stopped visiting the job site and sometimes a week or two would go by with no one showing up. I began to watch the work more closely and noticed mistakes. When I would point out mistakes, I could sense his frustration. It got to the point that he would ignore the mistakes and I began to get very frustrated. He also was not working on other parts of the project which further frustrated me. I would end up having a very pointed conversation with him. Each time I did this his subs would descend on the job site and work would speed up. It would only take a few days and the work would start to slow down again as he would start sending his people to other jobs. The floor contractor had to leave the job 3 times because the floor wasn't properly prepped. I could visibly see the frustration the floor contractor had with Maor. When the oak floor was finally installed and after the worker had done the initial sanding, he made three sample wood stains so I could approve one. I noticed that there were still sandpaper swirls in the floor and I asked if he would remove them and he assured me they would come out. The next day I noticed the floors were completely stained and the swirl marks were still there. They had to re-sand and re-stain the floors. When the rain gutter installers came, they had no idea what they were supposed to do. Luckily, I was there and able to direct them. I noticed they put a rain gutter over an area where the mason didn't finish stonework on the chimney. Had Maor been coordinating his subs the stonework would have been done before sending out the rain gutter people. Now the gutter will have to be removed by the mason to do his work, thereby risking damaging the gutter. The fireplace required the countertop vendor and the stone mason to be on-site at the same time to coordinate installation of the base. Three days in a row they were to show up and they didn't. The fourth day only the stone mason showed up and so he had to leave. The fourth day only the countertop guy showed up and so he had to leave. The fifth day only the mason showed up and so we decided to do what he could without the countertop vendor which wasn't much. The fireplace is still not done. I want to offer praise and thanks to IBA Builders, and more specifically to our contractor Moe Vered. When I first spoke to Moe, I told him that I wanted to update my home which had not had any work done on it for the past 30 years. I knew that I wanted to enlarge the shower in my husband's bathroom, and I knew that I wanted to replace the carpet throughout the house. But beyond that, I didn't have any specific ideas about the changes I needed to make. Neither my husband nor I have any sense about decorating--we just knew we wanted things to look beautiful and current. Moe was so understanding and reassured me that he would help us come up with a plan that would make both my husband and me very happy. I was so impressed because he offered to take me shopping--what contractor actually takes valuable hours out of his busy day to help his customer pick out tile, flooring, carpet, etc.??? I would have been totally overwhelmed on my and could never have narrowed down my decisions with so much to choose from! But Moe has a very good eye and helped me pick out exactly what we needed to beautify our home. I think his title should include "interior decorator" as well as "contractor." Another thing I like about Moe is that he tends to be a perfectionist, and I appreciate that quality because I am too. As an example, he saw a small problem with the tile job in the bathroom, something I did not even notice, and he had his tile guy do it over to his exacting standards. Because we were so impressed with the quality of the work done by Moe and his crew, we ended up by redoing the entire house--flooring, counter tops, tub, recessed lighting and painting!. His workers were all very industrious and courteous, and they cleaned up after themselves each day. I would highly recommend IBA Builders, and especially Moe, if you need any work done. They wound up having to replace part of our tiled deck, ripping out two walls, and checking the mold situation. They did an excellent job. This is the second time that I have used and reviewed IBA Builders. Last summer they repaired my side, tiled, veranda because of leaks where the veranda and the house meets. This winter I had to hire them again because the entire veranda leaked (except for the area they fixed last summer) Again, as I said in my first review last summer, they are not inexpensive but they hire the best people, and the work is excellent and, this time, they were able to finish the work in less than the time estimated. If you are anything like me searching for a roofing company can be stressful and difficult. DO. NOT. HIRE. THIS. COMPANY. message me for other referrals, happy to give them. Please look up their old company GenesisPro Builders that was closed they have tons of complaints, check the better business bureau, lawsuits, etc.... don't get taken advantage of like we were. This company promised us a finished project in 3-4 weeks, as per our contract. We are on week 12 and we are nowhere near completion. No one has shown up for days. Their contract stipulates payment for a trade upfront so you are essentially paying for things that haven't happened yet (which I have never heard of). I trusted so I paid it, now none of it is done and we've paid $33,000 for nothing.... everything has to be redone and it looks absolutely terrible. We recently found a leak and had a 3rd party plumber come take a look who informed us that the job they did would most likely not pass inspection and that it is a cheap job where every possible corner was cut and he suggested it all be redone. The tile was done so poorly that about 2 months ago the owner himself came to look and told me "wow this is a very bad job, it all has to be redone, we'll have it done by friday". He had me get more tile and then never did anything about it... but had the guts to ask me for more money because he was "taking care of me". No tile has been touched since, weeks ago.... read more
