He and Mike went above and beyond, helping move the tree limb off the wire, rehanging the ATT cabling that was also ripped down, to say nothing about getting our power restored on a holiday and secured everything better than what it was before the storm. Resetting the breaker ... buzzed to indicate a short-circuit. What could it be? I had changed nothing. Nothing. The power had not failed to provoke a sympathetic failure. Hmmmm? I did a bit of trouble shooting myself; unplugging everything from the dark outlets to rule out an appliance internally shorting out. No joy. I checked each outlet and switch for signs of spark/arc'ing. Nope. I checked the working circuits to see if neutral had floated (a very dangerous condition that could easily lead to a fire). Nope. Time to call a professional. Karen was confident that they could arrive a bit after lunchtime. Caleb (journeyman) and Alex (apprentice) called to let me know they were enroute. It took a few hours of trouble-shooting to find the short. It was a wire to a stairway light installed by the previous homeowner. Caleb knows his trade well, very well. He was also great teacher, insuring that Alex grasped a proper trouble-shooting methodology. A family owned business since 1956. I will certainly use them again.

It's not the same business and my experience with Mastercraft was not good, just from basic customer service perspective. I made an appointment to troubleshoot a non-working AC. They said they couldn't give me a time window until the day of. So I called at 8:30 and the office told me should be afternoon maybe around 1. So I skip lunch figuring I'll grab something on the way over when I get the call. No call, so I end up eating only crackers. 4:30pm rolls around and I call and she says I'm next. Next, it's 6pm and the office is closed and I'm wondering if they're still coming or the tech ran out of time. So I call the after-hours emergency service and the on-call tech did call me back and said the tech is still coming. The tech calls me at 7pm and so I rush to the house to meet him and he gets there at 7:30pm. He diagnoses the problem in 2 minutes (no pressure, 20 year old unit, need new). And oh by the way they probably can't install a new one for another month. They're obviously very successful yet they can't be bothered to invest in a system to keep the customer informed when they're coming. Lucky I didn't take the day off work since I work close enough to rush home but it's just a basic lack of customer respect. Anyway bottom line is that Suburban no longer exists, it's just a name (now Suburban Mechanical) that forwards to another business. On the bright side, I found a small very capable business that was able to come out and schedule me within a week. Terrible service, awful customer service. Had my main line…read moresnaked and within a few weeks it's backed up again. Plumbers came out and spent 10 minutes onsite (seemed really fast) and drain was fine when they left. Within 3-4 weeks it ran a little slower and slower. We are now 6 weeks out and I have sewage backing up in my basement. Warranty expired at 30 days. They want to charge me to do it again. I have my drain cleared once a year and have no issues in between. These guys won't stand behind their work after 44 days. I'll pay to have it done again, I just won't pay these guys. If you want it done right, don't use McCarthy Plumbing.
