This was some of the best matcha ice cream I've had! It was the perfect consistency, smooth, rich, firm. The matcha flavor came through and wasn't too sweet. Also doesn't hurt that the shop atmosphere is so pretty! A must if you stop in Causeway Bay :)

Matcha, matcha, matcha, it is obvious that matcha is invading the city and becoming or has become one of the food trends in the town. Just when the two matcha masters are doing their best in producing the best tea-flavored products, now you have one more option for matcha, the newly opened I Cremeria, serving Japanese parfaits. Their Uji Matcha soft serve was more on the rich yet light side, it wasn't as dense and creamy as the ones you would find from other places, and that also gave a much less bitter aftertaste. But the thing that disappointed us the most was the texture, it was icy and melted pretty quickly while we were expecting something firmer. Flavoring was nice, but texture was just so so. The matcha jelly cubes below were nice enough to give a subtle hint of matcha when having it alone, but was overpowered by the softserve when spooning both together. The parfait was supposed to come with a matcha-coated daifuku on the top but we were told that it was sold out, instead it came with the same daifuku without the matcha powder. We found that I Cremeria's soft serve were relatively lighter in flavor and icier in texture. The milk soft serve was okay, giving a subtle hint of milk without being too sugary. Shiratama on the top was pretty nice, chewy and brought a great textural difference to the soft serve. We felt that the idea of putting both Yuzu and matcha together was a bit weird. They didn't really go along and would have been better if separated. The yuzu used in the parfait was similar to the Korean Yujacha you would find in a jar from the supermarket. The thin slices of the yuzu zest brought some texture to the ice cream but still we didn't think they made a nice pair. Considering it's price, we would rather go for other matcha joints'.

I Cremeria - Vanilla and Green Tea Ice Cream Cone

It was SO good! Never thought about green tea ice cream, but when in China... The parlor was really upscale and nice. But there were a lot of people coming and going, so knew it must be good ice cream! Decent size place to get people in and out as well. The staff was really helpful, let you try different flavors and were very friendly. Easy check out as well. No seating inside the parlor, so you would need to find a bench if you didn't want to walk and eat the ice cream....if it lasts that long. Ha! Great choice...definitely try it out if in the area!

You're better off just asking an employee/service representation standing by the maps because you will go crazy attempting to navigate this mall on your own! - The cremadoro (hokkaido milk) cone was a bit too milky for my liking; skip. - The matcha cone was a bit better and the flavor was a bit more prominent, but then again...I've had better matcha ones elsewhere. - It's pricey!... but I'm sure you wouldn't mind because #1, you came here for the gold leaf and they give you a whole piece per order! - Space is limited to sit-down so you're better off grabbing to go.

日本雪糕物語 - Finishing up the ice cream with a dusting of powder

In the center are delicious looking gift boxes of cookies and snacks. My friend mentioned that in the past there was always a line for ice cream when she passed by, so we figure this quiet day (which was also rather cold) is a good time to give it a try. They have different flavors, like chocolate, matcha, strawberry, kiwi and more. Some of them, like the fruits, are mixed in the flavor, but the others seem to be just a dusting of cocoa powder or matcha powder on top of plain ice cream. Same for the durian. The employee put the ice cream cone in a base and proceeded to grate some dry durian on top. Therefore, the flavor is impressive at the top, but further down is just plain ice cream. That said, it's still pretty good ice cream, creamy but not too sweet. Another thing special about the ice cream is the cone. Unlike the standard cones, this one is made with a Langue de chat style cookie that is similar to Shiroi Koibito 白い恋人, a delicate, buttery, crunchy cookie with a brown edge. The cone also looks very lovely. The only problem is, it's more delicate than your average cone, and mine cracked after a few licks. With the melting soft ice cream, you can imagine what a mess it becomes. The cones are rather pricey, about $35-40 each, but it's a nice indulgence, and I will stop by again to try their other stuff.

There's one fast lane for people who are paying with the octopus card, otherwise, a worker will take your order and have you line up at the cash registers to pay. I ordered a twist in a waffle bowl with milk and matcha ice cream, some red bean and mochi on the side. Like some people have mentioned, the matcha flavor isn't very strong. The mochi is nice and chewy but my favorite is the red bean. Waffle bowl was a good addition although I really couldn't finish it. Overall, a good treat on a hot and humid summer day.

I haven't had ice cream from Cha Cha in a while, and I did today because as a 'gold member' of Citysuper we received a voucher to redeem a free cone. Because it was a Sunday, it was especially crowded. There was a pretty long line but I really was craving ice cream so I decided to just wait. As I got closer towards the front of the line, I realized that the queue kind of split into two - one to pay and one to collect the ice cream. There was a member of staff noting down our orders in the line. This really confused me and I had no idea which queue I was even in anymore - I heard a woman remark to her husband that this was a really strange system that was more confusing than it needs to be. Anyway, they have three types of cones - green tea, milk, and a twist cone with both green tea and milk. Wanting the best of both worlds, I went for the twist cone. My first bite (lick?) in, I was reminded why I've never had the ice cream here more than two or three times - the green tea ice cream seriously lacks a green tea taste. Even though it was a combination of green tea and milk ice cream, the milk, which I suppose naturally is the milder of the two flavors, somehow drowned out the taste of the green tea. The ice cream was really smooth and milky though. If you're a hardcore matcha fan, the ice cream here won't impress. The green tea flavor is way too light, and too milky and sweet for matcha, which is supposed to have some bitter undertones. But if you just crave ice cream that's super milky and creamy, and don't care much for whether the green tea taste is there or not, then you would definitely like this!

It has the prominent corner location that is right next to the TST N1 Subway entrance and is facing the popular Hanoi Road. There aren't many dessert options in this part of TST, which makes Owl's Choux an easy destination for post meal treats or a cool down option from the treacherous summer heat. Two things that don't work in favor for Owl's Choux is the price and the fact they sell gelato. In Chinese, "雪糕" or "冰淇淋" is the only way to describe gelato, but is in fact the same word for ice cream, which gets confusing. This is where the price point becomes tricky, as the gelato is handmade. That's right, not imported or store bought, but handmade at home by the owner, Mr. Ricky Chin. For all the sleepness nights Ricky has put into the business, it's quite clear presentation and quality matter above all other things. Dessert fiends, take note. The chouxs themselves don't disappoint. At $58 for a scoop between the choux, one might flinch at the price, but after a bite of their red velvet choux, I was actually semi-stuffed. I'm all for variety, so be sure to indulge on samples before committing to the real thing. If we're talking gelato exclusively, I appreciate the hazelnut / praline + cinnamon crumble the most. In fact I could just eat those two and life would be grand. Lastly, the service has always been my cup of tea. They're generally overly polite and good with dealing with the influx of random crowds that come here. If it's not tourists who are staying nearby, it's locals who are wandering by and typically marveling at the shop's super inviting ambiance. The place is small and they're cash only for now, but I expect big things from one of TST's most underrated spots.
