Mango & Mango Jelly in Mango Juice (4/5)

Went to Hui Lau Shan at the recommendation of a friend and it was really refreshing. With all the milk tea places opening up, sometimes you just want something more fruity. Hui Lau Shan specializes in mango drinks and desserts and although I didn't get the chance to try the desserts, I would definitely recommend the drinks if you're a mango person. This location is right next to the ferries and we stopped by this stall that faces the road. Got the Mango & Mango Jelly in Mango Juice. It was quite mango-y. I enjoyed it myself since I love mangos. I definitely want to try the coconut juice or aloe jelly varients, or even some of the watermelon drinks.

Drink Menu -- all variations of some mango drink

After reading all the great reviews for Hui Lau Shan, I especially made a stop on my last day in Hong Kong. Unfortunately for me, a lot of the locations listed on Yelp seemed to not actually exist, and it took me about 4 tries before I finally got to this one. You can imagine that after running around in the humidity for so long that I was looking forward to a nice and refreshing cool drink. The drink menu consists of several variations of their mango drink. I decided to just go with a more basic Mango and Sago in Mango Juice (43 HKD). I personally found it quite pricey, but it was quite a large cup and it did have fresh mango. But the problem was that I couldn't really drink it without nearly dying from a choking hazard. Literally half the drink was just sago, so I was just getting mouthfuls of little chewy balls that honestly have no flavor on their own. It was so bad that I couldn't even really enjoy the mango part of it. I was so incredibly disappointed with my drink, and I was not refreshed at all. Maybe if I had ordered something else it would've been better, but I also feel like this is a case where they made the drink wrong. I maybe would've given them another try but it was my last day in HK so I never got another chance.

If you love mango, this is the dessert place to go to. Their mangos taste really fresh and they make all kinds of mango desserts. From one's that you drink to one's that you eat. However not every location is consistent with their flavors. I think one of their best desserts is the mango smoothie with pomelo sago and mango icecream.!!! :D

Mango Romance - Absolutely delicious!

"There are so many branches over here, just hop to one of them and you won't regret!" This is what my friend told me when I first know about this dessert place. I fell in love with the it immediately after, the dessert is definitely healthier than most places and not only that its delicious and has many tempting desserts that often hard for me to decide. Like a cafe, just find a table then place an order with either a waitress or waiter. Enjoy your dessert once it comes. Normally its not as crowded as Australian Dairy so do no not worry about the crowd especially there are so many outlets and trust me, this is a a good alternative if you are tired of Milk Puddings and other traditional Hong Kong dessert. Its specialise in mango dessert and I love mangoes, which one is my favourite? Tough choice really but the one I picked often is the bowl of fruits with watermelon and mango juice. Dipping the fruits into the juice makes it even nicer. I would also recommend the smoothie, I can't find a better place that sell such good ones. So get yourself over here and give this a try! Hong Kong is a place for food and this is certainly one of them.

came to a branch of this chain after a nice meal around the corner inside Harbour City mall...yelp 2c what d-sert spot was opened late & this was the closest... the menu consists of mostly mango stuff, which my fam is allergic too...of the limited non-mango items, they ran out of almost everything towards the end of the nite!...no fruit, no cubes, no "chewy balls" (like lil mochi), no steamed egg or milk, no ice cream, & the list goes on!!!...out Out OUT...smh, how do u conduct business in this manner??... we ended up w/ these: - Combo Set of Stewed Milk in Coconut w/ millet & purple potato paste (hot or cold, reg. $69) and Mango Crisp (reg. 24), HKD $86... whole coconut w/ meat inside...& the "crisp" were like icy cubes... - Chinese Herbal Jelly w/ method, $49...they had one w/ Ganoderma (mushroom) $52...both served hot or cold... no bathroom either...they tell u to go down the street to mickey d's...good thing it's nice & clean there!... in a nutshell, it does open late, but u have very limited choices... p.s. no smoking here...

If you love mango drinks, this is the perfect spot for you. Perfect on a hot humid day! The menu is in English so it is easy to order. HKD only! Crowded on a hot afternoon but my drink came out pretty quickly. Located right by the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry. A1 Mango and Mango Jelly - 39 HKD - All mango! Mango juice was fresh and not super sweet. The mango added nice freshness and the jelly added texture. So good, I think I drank half in less then a minute. Really refreshing.

Wanted a cool drink to quench my thirst. Mango sounded great. Ordered the mango with white chewy balls. Was horrible. It was hard and tasteless. Would definitely not order it again. This location also doesn't have a restroom.

Whenever I'm in Hong Kong I'll go to Hui Lau Shan. The mango desserts are fantastic; they are fresh and sweet.

In the near decade since my last review, it has become one of my most frequented businesses and a rite of passage destination for all of my new-to-HK visitors. This was a must-visit for life in the street side foods of Kowloon. (#1) However, this last trip to HK I saw no lines and only one person working the stand. I came through Dundas on multiple occasions to see very little activity, making me wonder if this was the effects of the post-pandemic downtrodden economy, but alas I brought a group of friends and we ordered several drinks. The end result was it was nicely cold, but a tinge blander and less sweet than I had remembered. It was still refreshing, but the wow effect was gone. Before there were people behind the counter cracking open cans of coconut milk and the continuous mixing of drinks, but felt slow and the vibe was a downer. My friends didn't seem too impressed, which I understood why. The bottle prices are up 4HKD (now 30HKD) from the last decade, which is not as crazy as expected. Considering that they've recently expanded to Prince Edward earlier this year, I imagine the brand is doing well, despite it not feeling the same. I'll be back again soon, and while I anticipate another visit, it will be with much lesser expectations. ___________ (#1) Yai Ma Tei is the best.
