My husband was a little nervous about adopting a rescue, but this company and our foster mom were so amazing and responsive throughout the process. While I am a true dog lover and never want to discourage anyone from supporting a rescue, I do want to share some honest feedback on behalf of myself and others who have experienced similar frustrations. Lack of Communication: After submitting applications, most people--including us--receive no response at all. This seems to be a recurring pattern across multiple applicants. Inefficient Adoption Events: We were asked to drive to a Petco in Huntington Beach (from Corona). When we arrived, the dogs we were interested in already had numerous applicants, yet they continued to be shown without any clear process or updates. The Adoption Process Needs Improvement: A clearer, more structured process would benefit everyone involved. For example: A Dedicated Volunteer for Intake Forms & Communication: a. Person submits application b. ICARE reviews and vets applicants with communication along the way i.e.: got application, reviewing application, good news you're approved let's pick a good match for you etc. c. Approved applicants can then choose from available dogs d. Don't overpromise dogs with long, hidden waiting lists that make individuals wait indefinitely without any contact and, by chance, when you get to talk to somebody like Melissa or Joe, find out there are 20 applicants, and, oh btw, the foster wants to keep the dog anyway. Also - I'm not sure if this organization picks from the front of the shelter queue (i.e. dogs that aren't in jeopardy/highly adoptable) or from the back of the queue (dogs in danger). I would hope it is the later. Final Summary: They need to improve communication and processes badly for the sake of the animals and potential families to rescue more animals, period. You can tell this organization's leadership is not about efficiency and rescue maximization. read more

We are very happy with the communication we received when we initiated the inquiry to adopt one of the puppies listed on iCare's website. I even got a photo of the sire of our pup which is rare in the rescue world. Our one-time donation covered everything from shots to the sterilisation procedure at a close-by veterinarian. What an amazing rescue. They really do put the dogs well being first. I was lucky enough to help foster some dogs through the rescue. I now help with the adoption coordination. While we are all volunteers, we all work to ensure each dog matches up with the perfect family. They do not leave any dogs behind. They will help save dogs lives no matter the medical issues. Extremely hard to work with and communication was poor. First they misread an L for an I in an email, and delayed responses until we manually followed up. After that communication was poor on request to improve our patio for a puppy's safety. I have no issue making adjustments if they are stated upfront and clear. After seeing patio we were told to make some modifications. No issue, outside that the request came a hour before our meetup time. Photos of proposed covering was sent and approved. After that we installed it, but we're told it wasn't high enough. A Google search for a fence height was sent to us. Request of 4 feet or more. That's above the minimum requirements for patio guardrails in this state. I would have been more open to the conversation, but again none of this was provided up front. It's shows that things are haphazard at best, or too loose per forster. I'm sure they are taking great care of animals, but I can't jump through hoops without notice. read more

I had the absolute PLEASURE of working with Adoption Coordinator, Hannah. She was kind, thorough, and extremely helpful. I was coming out of a traumatic experience with my last rescue that resulted in having to rehome her for my safety. Hannah was so understanding and compassionate. I love that Hannah's first priority was and is finding the right home for each dog!! We applied for Sandoval a Boston terrier Chihuahua mix. When we had our interview with Hannah she advised us that he is very shy and his disposition may not be the best for our home and lifestyle. She told us about his sister Stassi. We chose Stassi. The entire process was fast, efficient, and focused on what was best for the dog (which meant the most to me). I know as humans we change our minds, but when less than 19 hours were to go until a family was going on a road trip packing up there 2 dogs and 10 year old daughter ready to bring home a promised puppy and you change your mind is plain cruel. You did not even have the class to call me Hannah. This adoption process started with a time consuming application, then an email saying Bria was going to be paired with another family, then a week later saying adoption for Bria was open again, a phone interview, you sharing how much you loved us on that phone interview, me sending videos of our home, you texting more photos of Bria. You knowing we told our 10 year old daughter as you wanted to meet all of us, and less than 19 hours from picking her up you can't part ways with Bria!! You said you already had 5 dogs and couldn't keep another dog. You were not honest with us! We discussed you giving us recipes on how you make Brias food, how she loved to be blow dried, how she was just starting to chew. All these details made us fall in love with her more. We mentally got prepared and bought supplies. Your cowardly text said it was too devasting for YOU to part ways with her. It is not okay to play with peoples emotions! Hannah you are gifted with the title of Adoption Coordinator use it with the intent of following through. My family of 3 is devasted... Merry Christmas Hannah. This is a wonderful rescue. They just do not give a dog to anyone. They make sure the dog and new family are a good fit. I was fortunate to go along with a foster to rescue a mother dog and three babies. They were going to be euthanized the next day. When we were putting the dogs in the crate, we were told that there were two more sisters. The foster called I care and was told to wait and see if they could find a foster for the two sisters. Pretty disappointed in this dog rescue. You have to fill out a 30+ question application which is a bit understanding but also a bit excessive. I got a response saying the puppy I wanted needed to be with another dog. Fine we don't have one I'll look for another. Found 2 other pups I inquired about and have not heard any response. You can't call them directly because the number linked on Google is an 800 number trying to help with your direct tv, life insurance, etc. it's like 10-15 question it feels like. So you can't get in contact with anyone and no one will respond to me. I'm really bummed out because we found pups that we would have loved to call ours and I just cannot get a response back and I'm slowly watching them leave the site. ICARE held an adoption event at South Coast Subaru back in December 2011. Most of the dogs were in cages, so I opened a few up and started playing around. This is how we met Tinzy, who we renamed to Minka. She is a monster, but family is sometimes like that, right? You still love them no matter what. Anywho, back to the story on how we met. She is a Rat Terrier and Miniature Doberman Pincher mix. Well, we actually think she is full Rat Terrier. She was in her cage and looking so sad, I pulled her out and she was super shy. After a few minutes I tried to put her back in the cage and she splayed out her paws to push the cage away, she kept doing this; so I couldnt put her back in! Ultimately, she got along with my little brother Coco (shihtzu) and is now the newest member of our family. We were told she was probably 3.5 yrs old but when we got her paperwork and judging by her behavior, she just turned 2 this month. No biggie, her foster parents werent there so I cant expect a few staff to know every detail about the big group of doggies they brought! As soon as she arrived at our home, she peed in the kitchen. I should have known that was a sign of things to come. I thought she was the oddest looking dog, she has a HUGE ribcage and long dainty legs and big scary teeth. We also thought she didnt have a tail! Well, all she needed was 24hrs in the house and her true self came out. Her little nubbin of a tail popped out the next day, she only wags it when she is alert or excited. Its too cute! She is extremely athletic and jumps onto window sills, dining tables and desks like a freaking cat. I was wondering why she was so fat; it was because she can jump onto anything to sneak food. So far she has eaten Kimchi, an entire mega bag of Peppered Jack Links Jerky, Egg McMuffin (left the sandwich looking untouched and just stole the egg and sausage), Honey Walnut Shrimp and so much more! She digs through my purse to try and find candy. She barks at everything. She is hyper to the max... She hides her treats in my bed or closet and I appreciate that because they are always sticky or smelly, wonderful. She terrorizes Coco, she will literally 'shoulder-check' him in the hallway. This dog is absolutely insane! But you know what? She is family and we love her to pieces. She brings way more joy into our lives than stress! Thank you ICARE for rescuing her from Downey Animal Shelter and bringing her into our lives! Once we purchase a home, we are likely to get another doggy from here! We adopted a new four-legged family member from I.C.A.R.E today. The process was extremely straightforward and the rescue was very forthcoming with us and quick to respond. We worked with Holly, Megan (our baby's foster mom), and Michelle. Everyone was extremely accommodating, especially given the covid-19 pandemic. We were able to do the house inspection virtually via FaceTime. Megan and Holly were both extremely communicative and transparent about Leroy's medical and behavioral history. I adopted a senior dog from this rescue in May 2023. I have a 14yr old cat so the dog must be cat friendly. This rescue did not interview me like most rescues did (I did some research) so they knew very little about my needs. The dog I adopted is very aggressive and not cat friendly. I feel this rescue does the dog and adoptee a disservice. Go to The Little Red Dog, Dogz in Need or another rescue. Don't adopt from this rescue. I am now stuck with a dog I'm not happy with and this rescue does not respond to emails after they dump the dog on you. It's sad and devastating. My cat is now restricted to my bed 24/7 because it's to high for the dog to get to him. I'm heartbroken. Please do your homework. read more

We applied to ICARE, followed up, and showed up to an adoption event two weeks after we sent our application. It was still in the "review" pile. Obviously we're a little committed, since we'd applied, followed up, followed up again, and showed up to an adoption event. Not so much as a call back. Maybe my lack of dog experience counted against us, but AT the adoption event, they were talking about adopting a dog to one of the pet store workers right then and there. But everyone else, you couldn't take a dog home. They do care for their dogs, I can see that much, but we obviously were serious, and we just got ignored. If I could give 100 stars, I would. I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue gave me my little chihuahua who I absolutely adore. The process was pleasant and smooth from start to finish. The website and photos were all so well done and made finding our perfect puppy so easy. I spoke with several different people to make sure that we were the right parents for our little Brooklyn and that she would be happy with us. The home inspection was easy and they worked with our schedule. Her foster mom spent hours talking with me and meeting with us. She gave us food and harnesses and treats and a bed to take home with us to make our new little dog comfortable. Brooklyn was already so well trained and sweet. Her foster mom made follow up calls and answered all my questions to make sure that the transition was as smooth as possible. And get this!
