    Maverick, Rotticorso
    Toni B.

Our 4 year Rottweiler Lola has been coming here since she was a puppy, has since had puppies and now we bring her and Maverick regularly. They are always so excited to go and we love that the staff loves our furry ones. We've done board & train for maverick and it was great.

We got our 1.5 year old Belgian Malinois, Gunner, at six weeks old. We placed him in training (elsewhere) right away three times a week. Despite our best efforts, Gunner still had a lot of trouble meeting new people or dogs. We could barely walk down the street without him wanting to lunge, growl, and bark after everything he saw. (At 6 weeks old and even after months of training) He is the most loving angel at home, but no one got to see that side of him. We have always had to be careful not to let him get out of the house off-leash, out of fear he could bite someone. My parents had always been able to watch Gunner if we were away for a weekend, knowing they needed to take extra safety precautions. Although sometimes mistakes are made, and he did get out. We moved to Riverside about eight months ago, and started to research for places that would take aggressive dogs. We found Better K-9 Riverside, and was informed about their board and train program. We had a consultation with Jack, who clearly knew what he was doing and knew exactly how to handle Gunner. We signed him up right away and he stayed with Better K-9 for about a month, and we saw a dramatic difference when he came home to us. He has stayed at Better K-9 Riverside a few times now, just if we have to go out of town for the weekend. It is so nice to be able to leave Gunner in hands I trust and don't have to worry about him getting out or biting someone. I always bring Gunner in his muzzle, to make sure whoever is taking him from me feels safe (even though he seems to really like everyone there now), but he always returns without his muzzle on. Again, it's nice to know the staff knows how to care for aggressive dogs, and that he can be muzzle free with them!! We definitely need to get back on our training sessions after the holiday break!

We found Better-K9 (in Riverside) here on Yelp and decided to take Bobby to the best rated, local dog trainer. Our (then) 6 month old Doberman/Mastiff/Staffordshire mix was a bit of a boisterous handful, and despite our best efforts still wasn't listening to any of our commands. My wife is used to bossing people around and couldn't get him to listen. I (apparently) have an accent, so I thought it was maybe the language barrier. No. He's just stubborn. We chose the 21 Day Boot Camp with Trainer Jack, who worked his magic and gave us back a very well-behaved, attentive dog. Part of Better-K9's course offers on-site follow-up training to fine tune anything that needs attention. Sarah dropped by for an hour and corrected some of our behavior (oh, dear) and had Bobby back on track immediately. She also gave us some homework to keep him obedient and engaged. Everyone of the staff we've met at Better-K9 are professional, knowledgeable, cheerful and friendly. I can't recommend them highly enough.

We absolutely love Sarah and how she handled our yorkie in our training sessions. Our yorkie definitely learned all the commands and she picked up the obedience very quickly. Our yorkie is very stubborn and has serious dominance issues so it took her awhile to accept Sarah but eventually she did. Our last session with Sarah and Jack was so awesome as they helped with accumulating her with other dogs because we are thinking of getting another puppy. It didn't go as well as we wanted but at least now we know what we need to do. They have daycare and boarding which is also amazing. The staff their are friendly and great with the dogs. All the dogs there are well trained and happy. We highly recommend this place for training, daycare, and boarding.

I have a half Australian Sheppard Half poodle dog that loves to jump and run and I have always wanted to get him into agility. I tried an other local center and this particular trainer was rude, yelled at me and my dog and even told me that if my dog was to get in his dog's face that he wasn't responsible for what might happen. Which isn't what I wanted to hear. My dog is in no way viscous or anything but just likes to play. So I decided to look for another place to train my dog. Then I came here. Tracy is AMAZING! I had my first private lesson with her today and Brewski and I had a blast. He is a very smart dog and was able to tackle 7 parts of the agility course in one DAY! The funny thing was that he had a huge smile on his face while he was going through the course. Tracey was so nice to him and he just loves her too! I learned alot as well and she didn't yell at me or insult me when I did something wrong but instead explained what I did wrong and told me why the other way was better in a way that makes total and complete sense.. If you are looking to train your dog, whether it obedience or agility or both, I recommend that you give Tracy a call. You will be glad you did and your dog will be glad too!

With Tony, this was definitely addressed along with a few other things such as staying in place and following commands. However, with a board and train, I only received about 3 videos per day (~15-20 minutes total). I regrettably did not review the videos in detail as I was so concentrated on the results. There was A LOT of yanking. For a big dog, it may not be so much an issue. With a pomeranian, you can literally yank their necks and even lift with a leash (which I saw on some occasions). My dog eventually developed trachea problems which is so unfortunate. I was new to dog ownership but as I reviewed the videos now, I cannot say I agree with Tony's training methods. Please be careful with smaller dogs if you decide to use his services as it seems Tony doesn't seem to treat big or small dogs any differently in terms of training method (yanking a big dog vs a small dog).

I was confused about the cause of her passing. I needed to know what happened. I talked to Jen Freilich, our dog trainer "At The End of Your Leash" about what happened. Jen was our trainer when Mackenzie was a puppy and we attended her Saturday socialization sessions on a regular basis. Jen is not only a fantastic dog trainer but also a pet communicator. She used her pet communication skills and contacted Mackenzie. Jen asked her what happened that caused her passing. Mackenzie communicated back that she had eaten something. I now know what happened. I am forever grateful to Jen Freilich for training both Mackenzie and myself. Giving us ten great years together. I plan to continue to use Jen's pet communicator skills to better understand my pets. If you have any concerns about your pets I think you should too. Thank you, Jen.
