Even though I work out often, I had this idea in my head that crossfit was unapproachable as a workout. Boy was I wrong. Aly the coach was so welcoming and helpful. She put me at ease with certain movements I hadn't tried and really kept me in check with my form. The workout itself was challenging, but I liked that you could go at your own pace. The folks at the gym were also super nice and motivating. The drop in class here is just $15 so if you want to get a sweat in before a boat day, I recommend this spot!

This is noticeable every single day, no matter what time you go work out. My schedule is crazy between teaching and tutoring, so sometimes I have to go in the morning, sometimes in the early afternoon, other times late in the evening - the great part is, there is always a class and always coaches ready to help you succeed. CFK prides itself on its programming and attention to form. They wont just hand you a barbell and tell you good luck, they spend a LOT of time breaking down the movements, exercises, techniques, explaining why things are done a certain way and getting your mindset in the right place. They will scale workouts for you if necessary, and are constantly watching during WODs to make sure everyone is doing things well, not slacking and most importantly: staying safe. There are many events that further promote the family atmosphere of CFK, from BBQs to Paddleboaring and everything in between. They are even adding a Saturday morning Yoga class! I recommend them to anyone who wants to change their lives, fitness, health, make friends and have fun leaving it all out there every single workout. Constantly varied, constantly pushing yourself - that's the name of the game.

The programming is varied. Monday: Upper Body, Tuesday; Total Body, Wednesday; lower body, Thursday; Total body, Friday; Cardio and abs, Saturday; Total body and Sunday; Lower body. The exercises are varied, so if you hated one workout, the next one will be different. The instructors demonstrate the exercises after the warmup. The exercises are rotated so the other regulars know the exercises and you can follow along. If you are new the instructors will take the time to work you through it one on one. If you are new to exercising at this intensity you can dial it off by using lower weights, taking longer breaks, or in my case I tapped out after two rounds versus three. There is no pressure except yourself to perform. The gym is open air. I have only worked out here in the winter, but find my self gravitating to the doors for fresh air. There is ample supply of equipment for all strength levels. I have noticed some couples coming in and one partner doing their own workout on the weights. I have had a stroke and have balance and cognitive deficits. I know the modifications to the exercises that I need and there is equipment available for adaption. The instructors are patient with me in asking questions of something I'm sure they already said. They have a ten percent discount for military, veterans, and law enforcement. I live nearby and walk in the field next to Empire. They have underutilized lighted soccer fields that are perfect for a team practice at night. The teams are out there at night with music blasting and balls blazing. They have recently started a boxing program on Tuesdays and Thursdays that seems intriguing. They have different heavy bags available. I avoided this gym the last year due to Covid. Both me and my wife were fully vaccinated in March, so I was willing to give it a go. NO ONE wears a mask! They do a good job of sanitizing before, during, and after workouts, with all people participating in keeping it clean. They have the workout spaces divided into six foot blocks and have modified the workouts to maintain social distancing. The bottom line is that I would not recommend an unvaccinated person or one who has not had COVID work out here, especially when Jonathan breaks out one of his SHIIT workouts that will get everyone breathing super hard. The music is a negative for me. It is super loud (as in a club) and is either Regaton or Urban music. A diversity of Dance, House, Disco, Electronica, Salsa, Merengue, and Rock would be appreciated to match the diversity of clients. Maybe rotate a different style each day and ensure that styles vary between weeks. I will do a review again post-covid and if DJ issue is resolved, they should be at five stars.

The showers were consistently clean and stocked with soap, there were chilled disposable towels available after workouts, and the equipment was well-maintained. Unfortunately, over the past 2-3 months, there has been a noticeable decline in the overall quality of the facility. The level of cleanliness and upkeep has dropped significantly. Soap dispensers are now cracked and empty, the floors are often dirty, and many of the amenities that were once standard are no longer available. More concerning is the condition of the equipment. The rowing machine, for example, has loose bolts and makes a scraping noise when in use, as the seat hits against the metal frame. At this point, I would recommend considering other options that prioritize cleanliness, maintenance, and member experience.
