The neat, and wonderful things everyone says about this hotel are true. Perfectly located for tourists in the First Arrondissement, right in the heart of central Paris, and a short walk across the bridge from the ile de Paris. All that, but incredibly on a quiet side street. The staff at the hotel could not have been kinder or more professional. An excellent breakfast is available each morning at a very affordable price, along with an afternoon wine treat on the house. Staff spoke a variety of languages and were all, without exception, superb! While the traditional double room was small, it was absolutely sufficient for our 5 day stay. The bathroom was modern, had great robes, and the in-room coffee/safe/refrigerator were all great. Neat view onto Avenue Victoria with flower boxes, and right next to a fantastic local bistro (Les Dessous de la Robe). Next time we are there (and we will stay there again:) we might upgrade to the larger superior room; but whichever you choose, you're sure to be as happy as can be with the Hotel Britannique. read more

We had very high expectations for this hotel and were left greatly disappointed, frustrated, and with damaged personal property. We attempted to check-in early and the hotel guaranteed our bags would be safe in their custody while our room was being prepared. Sadly, it was not so. When we returned in the evening, and got our room, one bag was missing. We finally found it hidden in the closet (unlike the other 6 bags) and it was badly damaged and now unusable for us to bring home on our 5,000 mile trip back to the United States. It looked as if it were dropped or thrown, which completely broke the zipper rendering it completely unusable. We immediately reported this issue to the front desk and instead of a quick and friendly resolution, which we earnestly expected, we got a two and half hour run around. They called the hotel 'director' who refused to even discuss it with us personally, and then further refused to compensate us in any way. They demanded we file a police report, file a claim with our home owner insurance, and then they would submit it to their own insurance. All this on the day we are leaving France. No empathy, no thoughtfulness, no appreciation whatsoever for the situation they left us in. Needless to say, we were then left scrambling to get a new bag for our daughter so we could get our valuables back home safely on our long journey. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy, and if you make the mistake of staying here, by all means NEVER leave your personal property in their custody. They will not compensate you or assist in any way when they damage your items. They didn't even bother to apologize for any inconvenience and treated us as if we were lying. They kept saying this is 'highly unusual '. No kidding, in over 15 trips to Europe we've never had a hotel trash our stuff. Highly unusual indeed. Awful. Dishonest. Incompetent. Hotel Britannique is in the heart of the city. Closely located to many museums, parks and iconic shopping. However, that is about it when they listing states the rooms are small, they might actually mean tiny. We got the superior room with a double bed and we couldn't even empty our luggage just 1 carry on, 1 checked bag. The tub/shower combo is very tiny and you either need to sit down to shower or try not to get water all over as they have no shower curtain or door. In addition, we picked this hotel due to the high rating of their breakfast. This was what appeared to be microwaved eggs and sausage. Some cheese, packaged breads and coffee. Not impressed so we canceled out $14 per person per day breakfast. It is pretty if you're looking for old world Paris, if you want up to date accommodations this is not the place to be. All in all we love the location would not return. read more

This charming, lovely hotel is located in the first arrondissement, which is closest to the Paris city center. I walked to the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Musee Rodin, Luxembourg Gardens, and the Arc de Triumph. If you get tired, just jump on any metro, or get a taxi. The people working at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. They try very hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible. If you are able, get the breakfast. It is only €14, and has quite a variety, with something for everyone. The Chatelet Metro station is just steps away from the hotel. You can go anywhere in Paris on the metro, and you could also catch the RER B train back to Charles de Gaulle Airport. I highly recommend that you give Hotel Britannique a try! I'm Parisian but I spent a night in the Hotel Britannique with my girlfriend to have a change of scenery. The receptionist was helpful and polite, and I really loved the decor, with its pretty red and gold colors. The bathroom and especially the shower was a bit old and not as comfortable as you could hope. The bar on the other side of the street was very loud even with windows close. Maybe this is the worst point of this hotel. But when the bar closed, we had a good night (even if it was short) in a bed that we found quite comfortable. read more

The most welcoming and resourceful staff at any hotel I have ever stayed at. The first day we arrived, check in was smooth, we received an automatic room upgrade, and received great recommendations for leisurely things to do for the rest of our first day. From arranging transportation to printing emergency documents and answering important travel questions, their staff was always reliable. The room was very clean, had good space, and a nice bathroom. A/C was very welcomed on our end as many hotels don't offer this in Paris. Finally, the location is more than ideal. The Notre Dame and Louvre are both within 5-10 minutes walking, there is a vibrant restaurant and bar life surrounding the hotel, and you are close to the most important metro lines. Price was very reasonable, and would highly recommend! read more

My boyfriend booked us into this hotel to celebrate our anniversary and what a lovely choice it was. The hotel is situated in a great place, a short walk from the Louvre, Notre Dame and Saint Chapelle. From the river you can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance. Pont des Arts, the Love lock bridge is two bridges away, It's close to the metro and a main train stataion that gets you anywhere. Public transport heaven. one street away from the Seine, across the river from Île de la Cité, restaurants, shopping, theatres, great bakery around the corner, a wonderful gift shop next door and a fab tea shop on the corner. I could go on but I think you get the general idea! Oh they also have a bike rental stand in the same street. Being a tourist in Paris is a real killer on the feet, so I was just so happy with the location of this quaint little hotel plus it ironically reminded me of England LOL. The service during our stay was just wonderful. The staff were friendly and we were always greeted with a smile. They had a nice stash of umbrellas for the guests to use as it rained most of the weekend. You can buy tickets at the front desk for the Louvre, there is a €2 surcharge but totally worth it to avoid the queues. The rooms are well decorated and very clean. They are a little on the small side but that's a norm in Paris. It was more than adequate for our needs. We were on the go constantly so really used it to sleep in :) The beds were so comfortable and you had various lighting options. There were even two sets of bedside lamps to choose from! Lots of power points, safe, lots of coat hangers, kettle, fridge. Internet isfree throughout the hotel. The rooms were a great temperature at night. The black out blinds are also great, I need a set for home! The toilet and shower room was very clean but cramped in the way of getting in and out of it! Still rather have a clean bathroom with a great shower with a constant stream of hot water and a hair dryer than a huge bathroom which is musty or has the wrong water pressure and flucuating temperature, we've all experienced those on our travels. The cleaners are fast we kept popping in and out and the room was miraculously cleaned each time even when we just went around the corner to the bakery! A lovely old English country style lounge, with huge comfy sofas, armchairs and chesterfields. You could charge your phones here. Really can't grumble. Quiet street despite it's location. I was on floor near reception but didn't hear too much noise, probably because we came back late a lot. You do hear the next room occasionally. No one complained when we had the TV on. I would recommend this hotel for sure. Quite sad to leave to be honest :) read more

The Britanique provides a real value and is an excellent three star providing some extras one would find in a four star hotel . Whilst most hotels in this priced category skimp on extras, the hotel Britanique,give you so much more. 1 .A beautiful lobby that is warm and not commercial, a bit of British fluff, but one can actually have a comfortable meeting in the lobby and be served tea... I could hold meetings there not feeling like I was in a budget hotel- at all. Its just a sweet little welcoming place with a firm bed in your room and ample amenities. 2. The staff is affable and kind and helpful. For instance I almost went to the "puces"( biggest flea market outside the city) on a Friday. one of the girls at the front desk ,caught the error and reminded me its closed! There is a storage room if you have to check out early as I did and my flight was later. I could Hole up in the lobby, which is like a proper English Townhouse. you will always still feel like you are in Paris as the little pastry shop is tres French around teh corner and it was a 7 Euro Uber over to St .Germain des Pres, my favourite neighbourhood... But this is a super and low priced hotel for what they provide. ..., its not a budget hotel in feeling' its really a lovely , lovely 3 star in a great neighbourhood.As for my room, it was quiet with a very firm bed and they even provided tea and coffee maker. So, whilst other hotels are budget in price only provide a cold austere atmosphere this hotel beats them all. PS, if you are a fan of down and dirty thrift stores.. that have DESIGNER clothes, well, about a half mile away is,"Come on Irene" . Valentino, Hermes and Louis V were in there amongst the rubble, its worth checking out. Around the Corner from the Britanique is an other (not as good _) more Just down market thrift store but they even had one HERMES scarf (110Euros) so, there are values all around. I didn't eat breakfast, but people were happy with their morning meal. For me, It was a lovely hotel, I will return to. I don't know why people are complaining about things ,like the lift or how to use a coffee machine ? I mean ,really, in major European cities at this price, shut up or go pay 400 Euros a night with a bigger lift. Who cares if your suitcase does not fit.. this is France and live the good life, all outside and enjoy! the front desk primarily speaks French and English, but make not mistake, this is a French hotel, without any smell of perfume, cigarettes or P-- ~ Sometimes, y'all take things for granted, but Bravo to the little Britanique~ read more

Absolutely wonderful hotel! Staff is very friendly, knowledgable, and fluent in English. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, and some have a great balcony big enough for a table and 2 chairs. Bathroom is spacious, there is ample closet space, and the climate control works very well. The location can't be better - within walking distance from the Louvre and Notre Dame, and a major Metro stop (Chatelet), not to mention just one block from the River Seine. read more

I stayed at hotel Britannic over New Years and really enjoyed it. Good location, very friendly staff, very nice rooms. They even came and delivered me chocolates on NY eve. But I had 2 issues with the place--first, I could hear almost any sort of activity from my room. Aka. If someone moved a chair upstairs or there was talking in the next room. The worst was the vacuum cleaner (they vacuum the corridors and staircase daily. I mean, that's great and all, but I'm sure once a week wouldn't harm anyone -- and allow us deep sleepers to sleep in, which is ideal for first of January...) My second beef was that upon checking out, the receptionist refused to believe I had payed in advance (i booked online). Even AFTER I had shown her confirmation emails etc. Didn't get her name, but she did apologize after... Good hotel, but for the price maybe look around see what other stuff is available. read more

No matter what you want to get from your trip to Paris, this is the place you want to be in. It's a fantastic hub for all of the top tourist sites, with Notre Dame and Hotel De Ville literally steps from the hotel. Beyond that it is in a super hip area, with tons of great bars and cafes to hang out in and just soak up the joie de vivre. If you are feeling particularly lazy you don't even need to leave the street - there's a great bar directly across from the hotel and the Bar a Manger at the end of the street is wonderful. Most importantly your Parisian cafe and croissant breakfast are merely a right turn away. Also to note, you can get the train (RET B) directly from the airport to here (Chatelet les Halles) for ultimate convenience. I have to mention too the wonderful staff, who were incredibly helpful and friendly. And of course the beautiful room decor. The rooms themselves were quite spacious by Paris standards and the bed was extremely comfy. Cannot recommend this place enough to anyone heading to Paris. Enjoy! read more

My Husband and I were fortunate enough to call Hotel Britannique our home base during our recent trip to Paris. I can't say enough good things particularly about the location of this tiny gem. It's central position in the city was the main selling point for us on choosing this hotel. Since neither of us had ever been to Paris, I relied on reviews stating that Britannique's location was perfect, and I was pleased that the reviews were right. The hotel is close to not only food, but shopping and of course a main metro stop. The boulangerie right around the corner was a perfect morning stop for a breakfast pastry and coffee. There was also a grocery store nearby, which was great for picking up wine, water, and other food items and since there was a refrigerator in our room, we were able to stock up for the week. The hotel itself is very nice inside and the staff spoke english and were friendly. We arranged everything ourselves, so we really didn't need their help with anything, but I am confident they would have been able to help if we needed it. Our room was quite small, but once we unpacked we found it to be a fine size. It was very clean each day, and the bed/pillows were extremely comfortable. In addition, there is air conditioning, which helped keep the temp in the room at an enjoyable level. The best part of our room (52) was the balcony we had overlooking the street, with a tiny view of the Eiffel tower (we could see it light up/twinkle at night). Our balcony had two chairs, a table, and other chair on the other side. It was perfect! Our room was mostly quiet, but we could hear our neighbors a few times late at night, which was a bit annoying, but nothing horrible. It's clear the walls are thin. Thankfully, this hotel is on a quiet street and the windows really lock out any noise that may be happening outside. The best part of the whole stay was how the staff romantically decorated our room, based on my Husband's request. There were roses everywhere upon our arrival, along with a fruit bowl and champagne, and heart decorations galore. It was the perfect start to a romantic Paris experience that I dreamed of. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is a first timer or 100th timer to Paris. We had a great time! read more

Mrs. B and I stayed in this wonderfully quaint, small hotel in the middle of Paris. I was fascinated by the combination of vintage architecture and newer age amenities. For example, I struggled at first to learn how to operate the small coffee pot that was in the room, and the staircase creaked quite loudly as I made my down to the lobby. I was amused at the size of the elevator as well, maybe I should say lack thereof. At one point, Mrs. B and I got in the tine elevator together, with all of our luggage packed to the very top, just to prove that we could. We must have looked pretty funny. The staff there was wonderfully accomodating and friendly as well, and they all spoke very good English. They made us feel quite welcome. read more

Nice quiet (surprisingly), great location, very convenient to Chatelet metro, great restaurants in the neighborhood. Next to Seine, easy walk to Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle etc. Popular with English-speaking tourists. Rooms were smallish (on par with most in Paris), clean and functional (including small fridge/mini-bar), stocked with nice toiletries. Breakfast was good but the same day over day (some variety in meats and cheeses would have been nice) and not cheap at 14 Euros per person. Staff were formal, even stiff; perhaps I was seeking less formal/more outgoing initiative from the staff. They were fine, they just didn't go out of their way. Given all the above, it was a very nice hotel indeed -- we could have paid more and gotten less elsewhere. read more

We couldn't be happier with our stay. The hotel was clean and I loved the Parisian decor throughout, it was very quaint and everything I expected. They have a lovely parlor off the lobby that is comfortable for reading and relaxing. There is a breakfast room right next to the parlor where they serve a lovely buffet breakfast in the mornings. It's great food and about half the price of going out. Our room was awesome, decorated with nice European furnishings, we felt like we were in Paris. Rooms can be small in Paris so we opted for a Jr. Suite which gave us an extra sitting room with a sofa, desk and television. You get nice full size bathrooms with the Jr. Suite as well. The bed was very comfortable and had nice quality linens. The room was very clean and well serviced every day before we returned. The hotel is not on a through street which is very nice because there is zero traffic noise. We were on the second floor on the street and didn't here noise at all, day or night. Climate control both heat and air conditioning worked very well. The location is excellent and is less than a block away from the Chatalet Metro station and a taxi stand. There are ample restaurants and bakeries in the area. You are walking distance to Notre Dame & The Latin Quarter. If you're a walker the Louvre is also near. The entire staff we encountered during our stay were awesome. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. If we ever find ourselves back in Paris we will definitely stay here again. read more

I stayed at this hotel at a recommendation of a friend. My first opinion was disappointment at the small size of the hotel. Only one person at a time with a bag could use the lift. The rooms themselves were extremely small as well, the two of us did not have places to place our luggage. They were however clean, and had other needed necessities. It is not a modern hotel by any means, it is described as a romantic boutique hotel, my opinion however, was outdated. I found the staff to be particularly rude and unwelcoming. A "gentleman" in the evening spoke to me like I was an idiot for asking how to get to the Louvre because it was close by, clearly I was a tourist. A second night, the front desk accused us of smoking in the room because the maid saw that my roommate threw an empty pack of cigarettes in the garbage can. Next time I will ask her to toss them on the street like the rest of the French do. It was insulting. The location is wonderful, but to me it doesn't make up for a rude staff and a very, very shallow hotel, where you can hear even a chair move in the next room. My parting experience was one in which I was given the option to pay in US dollars or in euro, without being told there was a 3.5% charge not related to my bank.
