This is a great restaurant for those who have allergies. They sell cookies, muffins, cupcakes, cakes (including cupcake cakes), donuts, pies, etc. They also sell cupcake decorating kits! They can handle to special occasions with customized cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Their food is gluten-free, plant-based and nut-free, made fresh daily. The kitchen is free from gluten and priority allergens (peanuts, tree-nuts, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, sesame, fish, crustaceans and molluscs). You can also email them with questions about your specific circumstances. The restaurant was opened 2018-05-19 by Matt and Pauline, a husband and wife team. Their son has multiple allergies so they were inspired to help so many other children and adults with allergies, which sometimes can be fatal. You can order directly from their website for larger quantities to get volume discounts. You can order customized savoury meals for $7.95 (small) and $10.95 (large). You start with 1 or 2 base, add proteins, add veggies, and top with warm sauces or vinaigrettes. There are hot/cold coffees, organic teas, and hot chocolate.  They use oat milk since their drinks are dairy-free and gluten-free. Their food has been greatly appreciated and trusted by so many people. They have a "Wall of Fame" with pictures of some of the many children they have helped and the children are so happy with the food. I ordered a Cookies and Cream Cupcake ($3.95) and Oatmeal Raisin Cookie ($2.00) online. The entire process was very simple. You would include your pickup date and time. When I arrived, there where 2 buttons I front of the entrance door (facilitating curbside pickup/takeout). There are buttons for "new orders & questions" and for "pickup & deliveries". Someone (in my case, Matt) would come out within 30 secs. My order was ready in a paper bag ready for pickup. I told Matt that I wanted to take photos of my two items before I ordered a soft-serve slush (a Dole Whip) later so that it didn't melt (it was a sunny 22C day after all!). Matt was very friendly and understanding. While I was taking photos, there were 2 other customers who arrived to make new orders for takeout. They asked questions about the contents of the food before ordering. Matt expertly answered their questions and they were sold! It gives me confidence that the food is legit. I am absolutely no expert on allergy-free food so it is good that I saw 2 satisfied customers. Of course I asked Matt some questions about the restaurant and the food. Then I ordered a vegan soft-serve in a plastic cup ($3.95). The two possible flavours are raspberry and pineapple. Matt even said it is possible to get half-half so I agree since it would make it more photogenic. You might think I choose food based on its look! And you may be right about that! It came out very colourful. Together I had 3 food items with 3 very different colours on a sunny day.. .  a photographer's delight. And I would shoot photos against the bench (with character!) in front of their restaurant. The allergens (especially lack thereof) are listed for each food item. The cupcake and cookie are plant-based, gluten-free, peanut-free, nut-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and soy-free. The Whip is dairy-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, kosher, and no artificial colours. As for taste, I liked it. You can taste the lack of "bad" ingredients replaced by healthy ingredients. It is a treat for me since i tend too eat foods with too much sugar, salt, and fat. It would be nice to see nutrition facts but I known small restaurants are not required to have them. They are so health-aware but what about their packaging? Are they environmentally friendly? Yes they are! The plastic used for the cupcake is made of plant-based plastic which is recyclable in certain municipalities. The plastic wrapping (which is well sealed) used for their cookies are recyclable if cleaned. When there are no pandemic restrictions, there is indoor dining, free WiFi, washrooms, and wheelchair accessible. There is street parking and if you are lucky, free 1-hour parking. Hype sure knows how to turn a bunch of nothings into something - no gluten, nuts, dairy, eggs and soy in Hype's hands is no problem at all. My wife and I tried: - Strawberry shortcake and vanilla field berries cupcakes: Amazing frosting, really moist cupcake. Don't know how they did it but the icing had a super buttery consistency, and this plant-based cupcake was light and yummy. - Snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies: Not close to the cupcakes but still good. Cookies were chewy versus gooey (not my personal preference), and would have liked bigger and more chips. But overall good, especially considering all the things it didn't have. - Coffee: Gotta find out what oat milk they used since that was good. This bakery was good but I experienced one negative side effect. The Food: I ordered a cookie cake, 4 cupcakes, 2 donuts and one small chocolate chip cookie from Hype Food Co bakery and was really impressed with the flavour and presentation. The one negative is, the cookie cake and cupcakes gave me a headache, which I typically get from artificial sweetener. I looked at the ingredients and didn't see any artificial sweetener on the list so I'm puzzled as to why the cookie cake and cupcake gave my mom and I a headache. If you don't experience headaches from certain ingredients, this bakery would be fine for you. The Service: From the moment I placed the order, to the time I picked up the order, I received phenomenal customer service. The owner was very accommodating and kind. I placed the order and arrived the next day for my pickup appointment. I put my four way flashers on, called the bakery and a friendly employee put the baked goods into my car. He also told me if I plan on eating the baked goods on the same day, I should leave them at room temperature and if I plan on eating them another day, I should freeze them and take them out 2 hours before I plan to eat them. So What Did I Do? I froze the donuts and 2 of the cupcakes for another day. HOW DID THE FOOD TASTE? * Cookie Cake: - The cookie cake tasted incredible! My boyfriend was shocked it was gluten free and I was so happy it was both gluten and dairy free. It had a soft texture and was presented beautifully. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and was a beautiful addition for celebrating our anniversary. We froze the rest and I'll let you know how that tastes once I try a thawed out piece. * The Chocolate Chip Cookie: - The thawed out cookie tasted a bit firm but it was so good. The vegan chocolate tasted just like the real thing and I was really impressed by it. * The Cupcakes: - Double chocolate: My mom said the cupcake was really good. She enjoyed the chocolate flavour but did say something gave her a headache. I experienced a headache too after eating the desserts so I'm not sure what the trigger was for her of I. The desserts are made with natural sugars but I'm wondering if many something artificial is in another ingredient blended into the recipe. - Chocolate Mint: I bought this cupcake for my dad and he said it was ok. He thought it was a bit grainy and he wasn't a huge fan. My father has no food allergies so this is something he isn't used to. - Cookies and Cream: The cookies and cream cupcake was really good. It was a bit gritty but I really enjoyed it. I was surprised to see the frosting on the inside, which was a nice bonus. The icing tasted really good. - Mocha: I ordered the mocha cupcake for my boyfriend and he really enjoyed it. He was shocked it was both gluten and dairy free. He said it tasted just like a normal cupcake and he loved the mocha flavour. He said it reminded him of his favourite coffee drink. *The Donuts: - Cookies and Cream: The cookies and cream donut had a really good chocolate flavour but it was a bit too dense and thick for me to describe it as a donut. Thanks Yelp and Hype Food Co. for the opportunity to try some sweet treats. The promo allowed us to preorder and taste a cupcake and a cookie of our choice. I opted for the mocha cupcake and traditional chocolate chip cookie. When I came to pick up, they had a great social distance table outside where you press a button if you're picking up, and a different one if you're placing a new order. They came out quick with my order and I was on my way! The mocha cupcake was great. It was a chocolate base with mocha frosting. The frosting was a bit sweet, but it was a great balance with the cake. The cookie was huge! 2 cookies in one basically. I split it with my partner. I wouldn't say it was my favourite chocolate chip cookie, but it was good. This place really does have everything. They have every desert you can imagine, and even have desert decorating kits for you to have some fun at home. It's not all sweets though! They also offer prepared food essential meals like rice, marinara sauce, vinaigrette, and just vegetables too. You can really get anything here. Picked up a each of cookie and cupcake by Yelp event. 1. Strawberry Shortbread Cupcake - First of all, very surprised by how nice icing was. I would not have known there was no dairy in it. It was rich and very smooth. Cupcake itself was not typical sugar packed cupcake. It tasted very healthy somehow, yet delicious and fresh. 2. Great location close to Greenwood park! They serve a lot of quick and healthy lunchtime meals. I wish they had longer hours of operations. I liked that the cupcakes are filled/stuffed with more icing, that was a nice surprise! I also liked that the baked goods did not taste like gluten free. I dislike when some bean flours taste beany. Several months ago, I saw Hype Food appear on my Facebook feed. It's likely because I frequent bakeries and have a soft spot for vegan ones. A couple of months ago, I bought a Groupon for two cupcakes from Hype Food. I wanted to see what all the hype (pun intended) was about. Trying two cupcakes would be a decent introduction. Hype Food is located on the northwest corner of Jones Avenue and Gerrard Street East. Parking is limited in this area on an early Saturday afternoon. I ended up parking on Endean Avenue and walking over. I haven't been in this neighbourhood in ages. Everything came flooding back to me. As a kid, I spent two summers taking Cantonese classes at Leslie Street Junior Public School, which is now Leslieville Junior Public School. This neighbourhood has changed for the better over the decades. The most exciting part of Gerrard Street East for us back then was walking over to the McDonald's at Gerrard Square for an ice cream cone. Now, there is Hype Food, which is far better! This eatery is incredibly cute, from the decorated bench in front of the store, to the photos and information posted on the walls. I love the vibe. I was assisted after waiting for a customer ahead of me with her order. I indicated that I had a Groupon. I simply needed to provide my name and the last three digits of my Groupon. The store had my name down, so it went all smoothly. I had enough time while waiting to figure out which two cupcake flavours I wanted. I got the lemon blueberry and mocha cupcakes. I was so excited to try them out. The woman was super friendly. She saw me taking photos and encouraged me to continue. I was so happy! I walked out with a huge smile on my face. I have cupcakes that are vegan. Yay! I ate the lemon blueberry one last night. The lemon was bright. The blueberry was subtle, which I appreciated. The blueberry on top was juicy and a nice touch. It wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciate in anything. The cupcake seemed a bit dry compared to other vegan places, but the buttercream balanced that out. It was delightful in my books. This morning, I ate the mocha one for breakfast. Yes, you read it correctly, it was my breakfast of champions! The mocha was moist and the buttercream was yummy. I loved it, too. I will come back and get more cupcakes. The salted coconut caramel cupcake piqued my interest, but was not a part of the Groupon deal. I need to have one! I also want to try the dole whip next. I had the opportunity to pick up a complementary cupcake and cookie from the Yelp Event and this cute spot exceeded my expectations! I chose the mocha cupcake and oatmeal raisin cookie and both of them were delicious. They were gluten free, dairy free, nut free, egg free, soy free, and plant-based! I have tried a few gluten-free desserts in the past which were terrible but I honestly wouldn't have guessed that these desserts were dairy free, egg free and gluten free. Let's dive a little deeper into each of the items. Mocha Cupcake: the cupcake itself was SO moist and not too sweet. The icing was deliciously flavoured with coffee and so smooth. I would have never guessed that there was no dairy in this! The cupcake is topped with a coffee bean, however, I would've preferred if it was topped with a chocolate coffee bean and not an actual coffee bean (such a minor preference) Nonetheless, a delicious cupcake! Oatmeal Raisin Cookie: as someone who loves oatmeal raisin cookies, I was thoroughly impressed. It was a soft cookie packed with the perfect amount of cinnamon. The cookie was a little bit crumbly but that did not take away from the great taste! Overall, I would highly recommend trying this place out if you're looking for little desserts. Walked past by countless times and never knew such delicious, guilt free cupcakes and cookies are so delicious! I tried the cookies and cream and Mocha cupcake, with the vanilla chocolate one too. They were all tasty. The snickerdoodle cookie was something normal at the first bite, but the more you bite into it you'll realise the texture is interesting.. The people were also very nice and friendly, careful to also explain to me what the ingredients were. Too bad I don't have room for ice cream. It'll be something I have to come back for.. Came here on a Thursday afternoon for pickup of my goodies. I ordered for same day pick up the day on their website couple of hours prior to my pick up date. I got there around 3:30pm half and hour before my actual pick up time and they already had my cookie and cupcake ready. I chose the strawberry cupcake. It came in a very individually wrapped cupcake. I think if I were vegan I may have appreciated the cupcake more. This cupcake did taste better than all the other gluten free, but free plants based cupcakes I've had. I ordered online earlier in the morning for a pickup and the order was ready by the time I got there. At the entrance, they have a table with 2 buttons for pick-up or to order something. The cupcake was super soft, moist and not overly sweet. I love how the frosting was able to hold it's shape so nicely. Since all the ingredients are vegan and allergy friendly, I can only imagine what my cupcake would have looked like if I kept it out for more than 2 days against the storing instructions (probably not very nice). Ordered during covid online for Mother's day was super easy and curbside pick up was a breeze. People seemed friendly too. Donuts, there were only 3 varieties in my order, but they were great looking. My wife was going dairy free so these were a great option. They tasted great and were very light. The main difference between these and regular donuts is that you can tell they are plant based because they have that granular feel to them still. Had the Dolewhip ice cream here. I live near the area but always thought it was a small grocery and prepared food store but I never knew they have baked goods and coffee! Really cute place! Came here one day after I got this huge craving for dole whip(around $3) which FYI did not disappoint, dole whip never disappoints loool I ended up getting pineapple, they were offering raspberry as well. I had to call them as I was running late vs the scheduled pickup time and they were understanding. The pickup went really smoothly too. Service was quick and friendly. It was a busy place as a lot of customers were picking up. I did not wait long as it seems they're super organized. The cupcake was beautifully presented. I got the mocha one. The icing was delightful. Nice espresso flavor, light and lip licking good. The cake part of the cupcake was good, nice and airy, a bit crumbly but I wished it had a bit more chocolate flavor. I was able to sample their delicious goods thanks to their partnership with Yelp Elite, where they kindly offered a cupcake and a cookie to qualified members. First I'd like to say that their customer service is 10/10. They were extremely accommodating when I could not pick up my order in time, and they even made me a fresh batch the next day when I was able to pick it up. They also have snacks along the wall which is nice (I picked up a bag of apple crisps) The only negative? I had ordered a coffee and it was honestly disgusting. I came to Hype because I'm eating dairy-free, soy-free and egg-free. This diet is new to me and I was eager to try a restaurant that catered specifically to people avoiding common allergens. The staff was friendly and eager to chat about the menu. The owner explained how his children had food allergies leading his family to cook without common allergens. I went a little crazy and bought almost everything they have. For lunch I got a protein and veggie box. You can mix and match from a bunch of options. I also picked up some baking for later. And dairy-free London Fog. And my son and I both enjoyed pineapple dairy-free ice cream. It was a bit of a haul. I'll also mention this place is stroller- and baby-friendly. There is a ramp and automatic door opener. There is space to park your stroller right by the tables. There are change tables in the two unisex bathrooms. Their customer service is the absolute best and you can rest assured that you're supporting an awesome business with even better people behind it. Matt in particular went above and beyond for an Easter order delivery for me, when it would have been totally reasonable not too - because I messed up the order and didn't read the dates correctly! However instead of resigning to the fact I made a big mistake, he offered to deliver it himself. I'm floored by the kindness and professionalism of this establishment. My boyfriend who has celiac disease and I tried this place out for the first time today and were very impressed. We were greeted by the owner and a nice woman who explained the concept of the restaurant and made us feel very safe eating there. The best part is that all the food we ate was truly delicious. LOVED it. I have many severe food allergies and was excited to try Hype. Delicious fresh food and super reasonable prices (less than $7 for a really decent-sized veggie meal). Mocha cupcake was excellent and the carrot cake was so moist and dense. Also loved the little Popcorners packets! Very friendly staff and I love the fact that they have a huge play area in the back for toddlers and can accommodate our 2 strollers. Washrooms are equipped with change tables as well. I like the concept of allergen free food but I think they missed the mark in terms of execution because the food was very bland and lacks flavour. We ordered 2 zucchini noodle bowls with one having satay sauce and the other having coconut curry. Both bowls were cold to luke warm. I wished they cooked the zucchini noodles a bit upon ordering so that the food can be warmer. We also tried the mocha cupcake and the salted caramel cupcake. They were moist and fairly good. Overall, a great place to hangout with young kids but not sure if I'll come back for the food. read more

I'm from New Hampshire in the U.S. I was visiting family in Toronto with my son who has food allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, and sesame seeds. When I found out my family was buying a cake for a celebration I scrambled to find an alternative for my son. As I searched the internet, I found Hype Food. I was amazed to find a shop that could accommodate all of my son's food allergies. When I arrived to quickly pick up what I was able to order online, I immediately wished I could have brought my son with me so that we could have dined in the sweet set up they have! Too bad this was a last minute purchase. The owners were so nice and welcoming. I could have talked to them for hours. The goodies I selected were so delicious and loved by my son! I wish so much we had this place closer to where we live. I will certainly be back when we visit our family again! read more

Ordered 1 of every cupcake they had. Their cupcakes are surprisingly good for being vegan which is something I can honestly say I wasn't expecting! I am also very picky when it comes to overly sweet/sickeningly sweet desserts but the cupcakes I tried were all just the perfect amount of sweet without being totally overwhelming. This is a great place to try if you suffer from severe food allergies! The staff is highly aware and knowledgeable about allergies and their menu is completely free of the top allergens so you can easily choose anything they have without worry. Their coffee (I had a latte) is also pretty good and the store itself has a nice clean and welcoming atmosphere. I will definitely be going back in the future. read more

Great place for healthy food that caters to food allergies. We have a nut allergy, a wheat sensitivity, and a vegan food choice, and are all able to enjoy the delicious food. The ice cream & cupcakes are so yummy and the grain bowls are awesome and well priced! Can't wait to go back! read more
