Was driving through Eureka and wanted to experience a B&B. The place is adorable and we rented out the Renee was very nice and a good hostess. The breakfast was yummy - an apple Dutch baby (YUM), ham, yogurt, berries, and jam. She also provides cream, coffee and a French press. We rented the Rhododendron flat so we could have two rooms. It comes with a kitchenette with the coffee, tea, mini fridge, etc. The sitting parlor was lovely and the bathroom is pretty. Long overdue review! Husband and I stayed in the Trillium Suite for Valentines' Day weekend in 2016 and had a wonderful time. We've always wanted to try a B&B but the idea of making small talk chit-chat with a bunch of strangers during breakfast is not our idea of a good time. Renee delivered a delicious, breakfast in a basket to our room. Also a large homemade chocolate chip cookie on a skillet! Love the antique furnishings. My roommate and I took a road trip to Eureka for a hiking trip in the redwoods and decided to stay at the Hydrangea Inn after not being satisfied with how the Best Western looked and the neighborhood it was in. Upon arriving we were greeted by the Innkeeper who warmly invited us in and sat us down and talked to us for a while about our lives and hers, a little about the house and gave us a BUNCH of fliers for us on dining and hiking trails. She gave us the key and gave us an option for when breakfast should be served. The bungalow we rented for two nights literally was home away from home. It was small but cozy, one bedroom with a soft bed and a living room with a tv and different channels and your very own kitchen. On the counter was a homemade cookie that we enjoyed every crumb of. The bed was a little too soft for me, but I have back problems. My roommate slept like a log and it was inviting after a long hike we went on our second day there. Everything is so cute and clean and orderly and we adored Renée and her delicious food. Breakfast was brought to us every morning in a basket and nothing was the same each day. One day we had apple pancakes with fruit on the side and she remembered my roommate is a vegetarian and made her a vegetarian quiche the next day and gave me one with bacon. She's the best! We're definitely going to be regulars and we refuse to go anywhere else now that we know about this cute little bed and breakfast read more

We spent one night here while traveling down the coast to California. Such a great deal! Renee greeted us with a homemade cookie and plenty of information on things to do in the area. We booked the upstairs apartment and it was more than enough room for two adults and our grade school son. The place was clean and the house is very beautiful with plenty of charm. Her outside space is amazing with gorgeous landscaping. The breakfast in the morning was the highlight of our stay. Fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh squeezed juice, homemade marmalade, ham and a huge yummy pan-baked apple type of pancake. Too bad we didn't plan to stay longer. We enjoyed the short visit. read more

We wanted to take a short vacation from the Bay Area and since neither of us had been to the redwoods in quite a while, we decided on that. Rene's place was excellent! When we arrived we spent a few minutes chatting about the different things to do in the area. She was so helpful and gave us some suggestions on local restaurants too. The room was absolutely wonderful. As my boyfriend said "this whole operation is adorable". The breakfast was delicious and the bungalow was very clean, pretty, and homey. We enjoyed our stay it was great to be in a house all to ourselves to get a quiet night's rest, have a kitchenette to prepare light meals in, and relax. The morning breakfast delivered to us was a nice touch. Our hostess was friendly, helpful, and easy to reach with any issues. Things to know: you can't control the heat in the main house yourself and there is no air conditioning, so when it's warm you'll have to open windows and not all of them open, so it can be quite warm in the living room area. Also there were no shades on the bathroom windows so technically you can be giving the neighbors a bit of a show as you step into the shower. We would have liked to spend some time in the backyard but all of the furniture was covered and packed up. All in all though, it was a very comfortable stay! read more

My sister and I decided to book a two-night stay in Hydrangea Inn during a road trip to the Redwoods. We came in with really no expectations, but we were completely surprised and impressed by our stay! Our room was absolutely beautiful and cozy. We stayed in a spacious suite-style room with a full kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. Everything was clean and so comfortable--a perfect place to rest after a long day hiking in the nearby Redwoods! Renee was the sweetest host. She made herself completely open and available to answer any questions we had about the area, and gave us plenty of suggestions. She also made us the tastiest and most creative breakfast dishes (picture pineapple upside down cake, breakfast tortilla wraps, yogurt, marmalade, orange juice, and plenty of fruit). We looked forward to the morning just to taste her delicious food! Long story short: if you are looking for a place to stay around Eureka, definitely look into booking a room in Hydrangea Inn. WOW! This place is absolutely beautiful! Rene, the innkeeper, is so very nice and welcoming. The accomadations are very cozy, everything you need has been thought of. Breakfast is divine, and perfect to start your day of exploring (I want the recipe to the baked pancake in a skillet!). We had a last minute side trip to Eureka and needed a resting place for the night. We saw the yelp reviews and decided to call Hydrangea Inn. Fortunately for us, because the Inn is new, the bungalow was available. I spoke to Renee at 4:45pm and said we were in town and would be right over. When we showed up at 5:00 the room was ready, Renee sat us down and gave us chocolates and orientated us to the town. We had a wonderful dinner at a restaurant she recommended. And then home to the comfort of this lovely retreat. I won't go into detail because another reviewer already did that, but I did notice that in her review the "Cons" - no soap or shampoo or hair dryer, had been alleviated and I enjoyed a relaxing shower with the comforts of home. It was so sweet to have breakfast delivered in a basket. We were near the end of our trip and in all the other B & B we stayed in, breakfast was served "family style". This was fun to interact with other travelers at times, but I was ready for some privacy and not having to engage in social interaction. Then I sat in the sun and wrote for a while in the outside seating area. My only disappointment is that by the time I get back to Eureka the cat will be out of the bag and I will have to make a reservation far in advance to get a room! And I have to admit, I did take the sweet snacks Renee had in the room to go because they were so good.... read more

My husband and I plus my two best gal pals stayed here for two nights in June 2017. We loved everything about the house and our stay there. The place is pure perfection inside and out. We loved the decor and the antiques, the breakfast made by the owner Renee and delivered each morning, and the lovely patio in back. The location is great and the weather was just right for me (a little on the chilly side for June). We had fun exploring the nearby Victorian town of Ferndale which Renee recommended. We stayed two nights in the bungalow (separate from the main house). The place was clean, quiet, and comfortable. On a quiet residential street with plenty of street parking. It has a full kitchen with pots, utensils, and flatware provided. Cookies and a 4-pack of high-end chocolates were in the room upon arrival. Breakfast came with the room, it was gourmet. Fresh-squeezed orange juice and ground coffee (for French press) are provided in the room each day. The first morning we had pan-baked french toast with hot syrup, marmalade, and butter. We also had fresh sausage patties (not the frozen pre-shaped kind) and a tub of fruit with vanilla yogurt. The next morning we had a hot souffle kind of thing that was sweet, with ham slices and the fruit/yogurt. We were well fed in the morning. There were board games for use in the room, small heater (which we didn't need), and my "must-have", a ceiling fan over the queen bed. My husband found the bed too soft, I liked it. The only cons: you had to trek through the sitting room and kitchen to get to the bathroom (big shower, nice hot water). There was no soap or shampoo provided for the shower. There was antibacterial soap for the sink, but that doesn't feel too good for body wash. No hair dryer--but I didn't ask if they had one to borrow. I haven't stayed anywhere else in Eureka but the research I did beforehand indicated this place is far above the norm. We didn't have time to look through the common areas in the main house but from my quick glimpse it looked beautiful. read more

We were referred to Hydrangea Inn by another inn keeper in Eureka. We were touring northern CA and staying in B&Bs. Hydrangea was charming! Renee greeted us with a smile, maps, info, and a tour. We stayed in the bungalow, but the other rooms in the main house were just as cozy and welcoming. The colors and decorating were so comfortable and the delicious breakfast filled us for the day. My husband and I spent six nights in the lovely Trillium Suite and enjoyed the spacious, comfortable apartment. The breakfasts were tasty and our host, Renee, friendly and charming. The space was clean and well-maintained, the bed comfortable, the kitchen useable and great to have for a long stay. A couple of small suggestions: More curtains! The bedroom and the front living room window were the only places where there were curtains and they were only sheers. The front door to the suite, which is all glass without a curtain, is at the top of the stairs, looking down on a very public space, and you have to pass this door to get from the bedroom to the bathroom. And the kitchen windows are large and look out on the driveway and the neighboring house. A few modesty curtains would be a great addition to this otherwise wonderful space. Also, while we liked the food, we found it a bit too salty. We'd also have liked more vegetables and less meat some days. But that's us! read more

If you're into vintage and not addicted to modern hotel comfort, this cozy place is for you. We were upgraded to the humongous suite upstairs. Bedroom, office, bathroom, living room and open kitchenette. It was the beginning of March and cold out at night, the single pane windows don't insulate much. We were told to leave the door to the stairs open to get the warm air from downstairs (no central heat) or use the (not too efficient) electric heaters. If you come during the cold months bring your warm socks. Breakfast was home-made apple-cinnamon pancake, orange marmalade (but no bread/toast), bacon (but no eggs), freshly cut fruit, and one yoghurt (for 2 people). Make your own coffee in a French press in the kitchen. Beautiful little yard in the back. The owner, Renee, is very nice. She can't or won't climb the stairs so you won't be disturbed. Not that we got the impression that might be an issue. read more
