Long overdue review! Husband and I stayed in the Trillium Suite for Valentines' Day weekend in 2016 and had a wonderful time. We've always wanted to try a B&B but the idea of making small talk chit-chat with a bunch of strangers during breakfast is not our idea of a good time. Renee delivered a delicious, breakfast in a basket to our room. Also a large homemade chocolate chip cookie on a skillet! Love the antique furnishings. It was a very relaxing, clean, and comfortable stay. We'll definitely be back.

My roommate and I took a road trip to Eureka for a hiking trip in the redwoods and decided to stay at the Hydrangea Inn after not being satisfied with how the Best Western looked and the neighborhood it was in. Upon arriving we were greeted by the Innkeeper who warmly invited us in and sat us down and talked to us for a while about our lives and hers, a little about the house and gave us a BUNCH of fliers for us on dining and hiking trails. She gave us the key and gave us an option for when breakfast should be served. The bungalow we rented for two nights literally was home away from home. It was small but cozy, one bedroom with a soft bed and a living room with a tv and different channels and your very own kitchen. On the counter was a homemade cookie that we enjoyed every crumb of. The bed was a little too soft for me, but I have back problems. My roommate slept like a log and it was inviting after a long hike we went on our second day there. Everything is so cute and clean and orderly and we adored Renée and her delicious food. Breakfast was brought to us every morning in a basket and nothing was the same each day. One day we had apple pancakes with fruit on the side and she remembered my roommate is a vegetarian and made her a vegetarian quiche the next day and gave me one with bacon. She's the best! We're definitely going to be regulars and we refuse to go anywhere else now that we know about this cute little bed and breakfast

We spent one night here while traveling down the coast to California. Such a great deal! Renee greeted us with a homemade cookie and plenty of information on things to do in the area. We booked the upstairs apartment and it was more than enough room for two adults and our grade school son. The place was clean and the house is very beautiful with plenty of charm. Her outside space is amazing with gorgeous landscaping. The breakfast in the morning was the highlight of our stay. Fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh squeezed juice, homemade marmalade, ham and a huge yummy pan-baked apple type of pancake. Too bad we didn't plan to stay longer. We enjoyed the short visit.

The Hydrangea Inn. The most adorable house on the whole street.

We wanted to take a short vacation from the Bay Area and since neither of us had been to the redwoods in quite a while, we decided on that. Rene's place was excellent! When we arrived we spent a few minutes chatting about the different things to do in the area. She was so helpful and gave us some suggestions on local restaurants too. The room was absolutely wonderful. As my boyfriend said "this whole operation is adorable". The breakfast was delicious and the bungalow was very clean, pretty, and homey. I would absolutely recommend staying here!

The photos online don't do this place justice, it's absolutely beautiful inside and out!

WOW! This place is absolutely beautiful! Rene, the innkeeper, is so very nice and welcoming. The accomadations are very cozy, everything you need has been thought of. Breakfast is divine, and perfect to start your day of exploring (I want the recipe to the baked pancake in a skillet!). Rene gave great suggestions for our trip, most of which we checked out and quite enjoyed. Overall, our stay was a wonderful break, and we will definitely come back!

When you enter, there is a receptionist that greets you... and you walk into a lobby full of comfy furniture, a roaring fireplace and a basket full of blankets. Above the two receptionist sits a bar where you can grab a glass of wine to sit in front of the fire. They also have a tower of fruit for you to grab as a snack. We stayed in one of the regular rooms which I found quite spacious. However, we were on the corner so we had a little extra space. I'm not sure if all the rooms have a fireplace, but ours did which came in handy because it's quite chilly in Eureka. If you're staying for a few days, they have plenty of space in the room to put your clothes. However, the bathroom is very tight. I will say the bed and pillows are very comfortable...I definitely slept very well! The hotel itself is located pretty centrally and easy enough to walk to good restaurants just down the street but if you don't wanna walk, the hotel itself has an amazing restaurant both for breakfast and dinner. I'm honestly not sure about lunch.

After waiting 35 minutes we finally got the soup, with a bad attitude from the waitress. As all the other tables around us were getting their plates we were left sitting there for way too long, the waitresses kept telling that it was the kitchen fault. If it was any other day we would have gotten up and walked out, but it being Valentine's Day we knew we how hard it would be to try to walk in anywhere else. It was so bad they comped our dinners. She knew we were not happy at all, and sent the manager over to talk to us who apologized for how everything had went, saying that they hoped we would give them another chance..... It was fine for one night but I don't know if I would choose the same type room if staying longer. The hotel has some history behind it and can be a little creepy if you decide to walk around at night by yourself. Our room was #16, located on the second floor. The room was a decent size with a sitting area with two chairs and a settee and a small armoire to hang your clothes. The bathroom was small with a walk in shower but the shower pressure was good and the water was warm. No air conditioning but there was an industrial oscillating fan in the room. Unfortunately, I didn't find the bed too comfortable and the headboard creaked a lot but it was ok for just one night. Taylor at the front desk when we checked in was very helpful and informative. We left early, around 8am and they had a complimentary breakfast available for guests consisting of bagels, sweet pastries, fruit, Tillamook cheese and sliced tomatoes and cucumbers which I presume are for the bagels. Cute spread!

It is dark inside and smells "old". Our room was nicely decorated in old Victorian. It was overlooking the corner of 2nd & C right over the Irish pub. Everything was clean and nice inside. Bathroom was small but well stocked with supplies. The issue is more with the area. We took a walk after we arrived through the marina and old town area and concluded that we didn't feel terribly safe. We decided to stay in after dark. There were plenty of homeless and very "sketchy" people walking around talking loudly to themselves, etc. Know the rooms have no air conditioning so the hosts opened a couple of windows facing C street, which we left open all night, hoping that street wouldn't be terribly noisy. Fortunately, the Irish pub below us closes around 9:00, and the Mexican restaurant across the street was the same. By 9:30 or so the street was very quiet with only the occasional car and lone, loud motorcycle around midnight. Also there is no TV in the room, so bring your own entertainment! The WiFi didn't work either. We couldn't find the WiFi the hosts provided on check in. Overall, this area of town is trying to revive and the hosts are trying to bring back this hotel. Just be aware!

Our first impression wasn't great. The gentleman who checked us in was surprisingly rude. The booking site had listed our teenager as a child instead of an adult, so there was a $10-per-day charge to correct it. That wasn't an issue--we expected to pay the difference--but he made such a big deal about it that it felt uncomfortable, almost as if he assumed we couldn't afford it. It was an odd way to start our stay. One thing I hadn't seen mentioned in other reviews is the location. The hotel is next to several large dispensaries. If that's your thing, it probably won't bother you, but if you're like us and don't enjoy the smell, you'll notice it the moment you step outside or open the window. The room itself was clean and nicely updated. My only complaint was a strange design choice: there was a table placed directly over the air conditioning unit, blocking much of the airflow. We visited in June, and with the warmer temperatures it definitely made it harder to cool the room. On the positive side, the location was convenient for exploring the area and visiting the attractions we had planned. The breakfast also exceeded our expectations. Instead of the typical waffle maker and stale cereal, there were hot options both mornings, including eggs, sausage, potatoes, and plenty of fresh fruit. Overall, I'm not 100% sure I'd stay here again. They have clean rooms, good breakfast, and convenient location. Just be aware of the nearby dispensaries and don't expect the warmest welcome at check-in.

One of the things I look for when booking a hotel is the parking situation (since I'm horrible at backing-up, parking in tight spaces, etc) but this location did not disappoint me, there are plenty parking spaces available and it's an easy in and out. Our check-in was quick and efficient. Front desk staff is very friendly. The lobby is modern and chic. They have plenty of tables, couches and chairs that create a comfortable and cozy atmosphere for people-watching, play card games, dining, etc. Did I mention they have fresh coffee 24/7...yes please! Our room was spacious, clean and most importantly; the bed was super comfy. The indoor pool was a plus for families traveling with children, it looked nice and warm (I did not use it) but other guests seem to be having a blast.
