This place was amazing. The checkin was quick and informative. They had homemade cookies waiting for us and a well appointed selection of teas and sodas. The host was so helpful and explained everything in detail. We even got great dinner recommendations. The room was spacious with a massive tub, but was the view that was most spectacular. The room had a perfect view of the ocean. From the deck, you can see and hear the sea lions playing on the rocks. The breakfast was superb. We went back for seconds. I would highly recommend this little gem!

Amazing deck view from our room at sunset!

Roger and Francine are the best! And wow such an incredible gem of a beach town in Trinidad, CA. Not to mention during Covid-19, they couldn't have been a safer place to stay for a few days. We were the only guests and they wore masks everytime we saw them (as did we). My wife and I absolutely loved talking to Roger and Francine who own and run the place. They took care of us as if we were family staying in their family home and the food... wow... the food is truly something! Every morning we woke up to the smell of something amazing cooked up by Francine! She made all the dishes herself and fresh daily! Gourmet Egg Quiches and so many other good dishes! She always baked something fresh and you could grab it anytime. Loved the pumpkin bread!! And for the best part, THE VIEWS! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE VIEWS! We stayed in room #3 and the view was to die for! Every day we stared out at Turtle Rock and at least 40 other beautiful rocks that are a constant show of waves hitting and tides coming up and down. So incredible and the deck in our room was a dream! Anyway, we're already telling all our favorite friends and dream to one day go back up with them when things are more covid safe. Until then, IF YOU'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET A RESERVATION (YES YOU HAVE TO CONTACT THEM OLD SCHOOL STYLE-- NO ONLINE BOOKINGS BUT WORTH THE EFFORT)~~ BOOK IT RIGHT AWAY AND DON'T THINK TWICE! YOU'LL THANK THIS REVIEW WHEN YOU GET THERE AND RIGHT YOUR OWN AMAZING ONE. THANKS AGAIN TO ROGER AND FRANCINE FOR THE MOST AMAZING NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BEACH TOWN BED AND BREAKFAST EXPERIENCE MY WIFE AND I EVER HAD! BEST 3 DAYS AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK!!!

Fog coming in, view from room 1.

The very excellent views make this an amazing inn. That and the sweet chorus sea lions perched on the many "turtle " rocks in the ocean right outside. Innkeepers Francine and Roger are helpful and know the area well. Breakfast is done well and there are sweet cakes out in the common room as well as coffee and tea. Yes, the decor is dated, but it was clean and comfortable. And, there is no happy hour in the afternoon with wine or savory snacks. I'd have liked a fridge in the room, but there was one in the dining room we could all share. Also, no in-room coffee, which I'd prefer to getting dressed. They do provide robes. The prices are reasonable and for the view and location, we'd definitely return!

I am going to give this review 4 stars partially because of the potential of this place., not the total experience. We have stayed in a lot of B&B's and inns, and the physical structure of the space here is really lovely. The views are spectacular, the rooms are spacious, and, in our room, we actually had an additional room with a sink and mirror and vanity. What made it hard for me to give this a five star rating were the following... 1. The decor is bland and outdated. I tried to overlook that, but I was mentally re-decorating from the moment I opened the door to our room. With this amazing view, it would be lovely not to have so many fussy little lace covers and cloth on every table and surface. Yes, that sounds picky, but this is an expensive place to stay, so expectations are high. See photos. 2. We were 'greeted' at the front door (locked) with a gruff "Do you have a reservation?" Not hello or welcome or any other polite comment. 3. There is no wine/nibbles hour in the afternoon. Personal preference, I realize, but we would much prefer that to the sweets that are in the common room. The good points include the hosts Roger and Francine (once you're "in"!) who are friendly and helpful. Really nice breakfast is served each day. Phone conversations were excellent. And again, the location and views are great.

The kitchen was absolutely amazing! They had everything, stove, microwave, plates, cups, etc etc. Very clean and well kept! One thing that would've made the experience better was for the cleaning lady to clean our room. We left the sign out but our room sadly didn't get cleaned. From the moment I arrived, Keaton (the hostess) greeted me warmly and offered to help me with my luggage. I felt immediately enveloped with genuine kindness. When I realized i had no swimsuit for the spa, she offered to find me a substitute. Which she did. And the spa was wonderful with the ocean pounding below on the rocks, and seals barking in the night. And that's the way it went, the whole stay. When I missed the wonderful breakfast buffet in the morning, Keaton cheerfully fixed me a beautiful plate, and Met (also a hostess) made me a "happy face" orange juice to top it off.! Help with luggage was offered on leaving, along with much assistance with any request I had. The Beluga Room was absolutely wonderful, romantic, cozy, and balcony open to the ocean. The beach trail was exhilarating and do-able, even for an 81 year old woman. I have never had such a lovely time. Highly recommended. And dont forget to roast marshmellows (provided by the Inn) at the firepit at night, and get some hugs with Boscoe the old black cat who is waiting to love every human being in sight. G. Upon arrival we were greeted by our innkeeper for the night and a snack plate that included cheese, crackers, dried fruit, nuts, and salmon was ready for us to take up to our room. This snack plate is prepared everyday. The room was very comfortable and we loved the attention to detail. We stayed in the Egret room and we had plenty of space. The bed was comfortable and could slightly hear the sea lions from our room. No t.v. in the room and it was nice to connect with nature and rest. There was an indoor heater in the closet that we turned on to heat up the room and turned off when we slept. The blankets kept us warm at night. One night after staying out at the fire pit to hang out with other guests, we got back to our room to shower and we didn't have hot water. One of the innkeeper's told us sometimes it happens when too many people are showering at once. Not a deal breaker, although I want to share because this is something that I'd want to know. Back to good stuff...their breakfast is delicious every morning. It tastes like it is made with love. There is a trail down to the beach and a fire pit where they have all the ingredients necessary to make smores. The view is spectacular here. Truly one of a kind. We loved our experience here and look forward to coming back.

Our daughter is now grown up, so for the first time in nineteen years my wife and I were able to get away on our own for an anniversary vacation. In the past, we usually ended up in the fourth unit-- which is perfect for families of three-- but this time we stayed in the ninth unit, which has a wonderful jet sauna, a VERY comfortable king bed, a large kitchen area, and a very nice couch for hanging out after a long day beach combing or wandering in the redwoods. Every time we have stayed at the View Crest, the staff has always been friendly and accommodating and this visit continued that trend. I should add that the lodge is located very near to the redwood tree parks (my favorite being Prairie Creek), Su-Meg State Park, and Trinidad State Beach-- all of which makes for many days of enjoyable hiking and wandering. My only complaint about the View Crest is all their units are often completely booked! We look forward to our next stay.

There's a long story there which is not mine to tell but it certainly seems as if the owner is now pouring her considerable skills into restoring the whole place, which by the way, dates from the twenties!
