3 stars...... 2.5 isn't an option. Overall experience: It ended up being an acceptable time here. There are positives and some negatives that I will explain. Main concerns: * Overpriced for overall stay / experience * Unpleasant, extremely outdated decor; hard to ignore Positives: * Beautiful ocean view * Nice garden * Close to trailheads * Communal fridge filled with cold drinks; breakfast (I know it's a B&B but for this price, in-room coffee would've been nice.) * Very clean rooms * Hosts were kind, pleasant, informative Negatives: * Decor: The first impression was alarming at best. Online photos do leave you with the impression that the decor is dated but it is overwhelming to actually see once there. I had to walk back to the car and process whether I could actually stay here. After looking up availability of neighboring lodging and seeing no options (and considering the loss of money already spent here...), we decided to go inside. Instead of walking in the door, you have to use the old, outdated intercom where you're asked if you have a reservation. After being let in, we were still experiencing a lot of feelings ("creepy" is the word we kept repeating to each other and "Grandma's estate sale".). While the host was polite and informative, the environment / decor was so outdated, it was hard to get past or ignore. I spent half the day working to force myself to not feel uncomfortable here; I should feel good about the stay - not spend considerable vacation time talking myself into not feeling grossed out by it. * Cost of stay: Considering this was the most expensive option in the area, I expected more / better. Besides the overall decor, our bath towels had bleach stains on them. And be sure to bring your own bath supplies. The ones provided that are boasted about on the website.....looks like they bought Dollar store products, stuck old-fashioned-looking labels on and have refilled over and over. I did not feel comfortable using them at all. Summary: * Nice hosts. Great view. That's it. * Would I stay again or recommend to others: Hard no. You think it's obvious to want an ocean view but I'd easily pass on the view for a more comfortable place to stay. We actually left a day early. Could be good if recommendations here and in other reviews are taken and implemented. Relying solely on "the view" isn't cutting it. read more

The setting of this BnB is undeniably beautiful -- stunning views and a nice selection of complimentary snacks. Unfortunately, the hospitality didn't match the scenery. I stayed here with my husband and our 2-month-old baby. While we checked out of our room at 11am, it was storming outside, so we took a seat in the lounge to wait out the weather for a short period of time and feed the baby. Within minutes, the innkeeper, Roger, came over to tell us, rather coldly, that "the reservation ended at 11." Despite being fully out of the room and sitting quietly in a shared space (where there was no one else, as the inn wasn't even full), we were asked to leave. His tone was passive-aggressive -- particularly unkind given the circumstances. That was one of a few negative interactions we had with him. In all our travels, we've never experienced such a lack of hospitality -- especially from a place that charges over $300 a night. Most properties are more than accommodating when guests are briefly using common areas after checkout, especially with a baby and during bad weather. After our stay, we noticed some other online reviews describing similarly negative interactions with Roger, scattered among the glowing 5-star ones. Sadly, that interaction left a lasting negative impression. As a result, we won't be returning and can't recommend this BnB to others who value genuine hospitality. This place was amazing. The checkin was quick and informative. They had homemade cookies waiting for us and a well appointed selection of teas and sodas. The host was so helpful and explained everything in detail. We even got great dinner recommendations. The room was spacious with a massive tub, but was the view that was most spectacular. The room had a perfect view of the ocean. From the deck, you can see and hear the sea lions playing on the rocks. The breakfast was superb. We went back for seconds. Roger and Francine are the best! And wow such an incredible gem of a beach town in Trinidad, CA. Not to mention during Covid-19, they couldn't have been a safer place to stay for a few days. We were the only guests and they wore masks everytime we saw them (as did we). My wife and I absolutely loved talking to Roger and Francine who own and run the place. They took care of us as if we were family staying in their family home and the food... wow... the food is truly something! Every morning we woke up to the smell of something amazing cooked up by Francine! She made all the dishes herself and fresh daily! Gourmet Egg Quiches and so many other good dishes! She always baked something fresh and you could grab it anytime. Loved the pumpkin bread!! And for the best part, THE VIEWS! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE VIEWS! We stayed in room #3 and the view was to die for! Every day we stared out at Turtle Rock and at least 40 other beautiful rocks that are a constant show of waves hitting and tides coming up and down. So incredible and the deck in our room was a dream! Anyway, we're already telling all our favorite friends and dream to one day go back up with them when things are more covid safe. The very excellent views make this an amazing inn. That and the sweet chorus sea lions perched on the many "turtle " rocks in the ocean right outside. Innkeepers Francine and Roger are helpful and know the area well. Breakfast is done well and there are sweet cakes out in the common room as well as coffee and tea. Yes, the decor is dated, but it was clean and comfortable. And, there is no happy hour in the afternoon with wine or savory snacks. I'd have liked a fridge in the room, but there was one in the dining room we could all share. Also, no in-room coffee, which I'd prefer to getting dressed. They do provide robes. The prices are reasonable and for the view and location, we'd definitely return! read more

I am going to give this review 4 stars partially because of the potential of this place., not the total experience. We have stayed in a lot of B&B's and inns, and the physical structure of the space here is really lovely. The views are spectacular, the rooms are spacious, and, in our room, we actually had an additional room with a sink and mirror and vanity. What made it hard for me to give this a five star rating were the following... 1. The decor is bland and outdated. I tried to overlook that, but I was mentally re-decorating from the moment I opened the door to our room. With this amazing view, it would be lovely not to have so many fussy little lace covers and cloth on every table and surface. Yes, that sounds picky, but this is an expensive place to stay, so expectations are high. See photos. 2. We were 'greeted' at the front door (locked) with a gruff "Do you have a reservation?" Not hello or welcome or any other polite comment. 3. There is no wine/nibbles hour in the afternoon. Personal preference, I realize, but we would much prefer that to the sweets that are in the common room. The good points include the hosts Roger and Francine (once you're "in"!) who are friendly and helpful. Really nice breakfast is served each day. Phone conversations were excellent. Turtle Rocks - rocked! My partner and I went up to Trinidad,Ca so I could scratch Redwood National Forest off of my bucket list :) The inn was very quaint, our room was very spacious and had a view of the ocean. What else can you ask for! Well. Our room was right by the kitchen and the fridge stocked with cold drinks. There is a lovely little garden. You can go down some steps and enjoy the amazing sunsets. Roger was a great host, chef, everything! He took time to talk to his guests and asked me if I was a warriors fan, and since we are we were in good with the boss. He also came to welcome us at the door and I really appreciated the humanness. He has suggestions on trails, etc. I had the most relaxing time. Will go again!! read more

My wife and I just stayed here for 3 nights. We were on our first trip to see the Redwoods. We loved this place. It is comfortable and beautiful. The view of the ocean is as portrayed, great. Rodger runs this small Inn and is very knowledgeable about the local area (actually about all of CA.). He sent us to several great places to see the Redwoods and got us into a wonderful restaurant on short notice near his Inn. We are active seniors (72 and 67), and Rodger served as our guide without error for our stay. He is a wonderful person and this is a place you want to stay! We expect to return. We found Turtle Rocks online, after having compared plenty of other possible B&Bs, Turtle Rocks came out the best. And the best it is! The room with balcony we got exceeded our epectations. After a day of hiukinfg and sight seeing, it was good to relax on the well equiped balcony, just listening to the chatter of the sea lions. Everything you would want, when away from home, was there and even more. The bed was just awesome, very comfortable, we slept like babies after having roamed the Red Woods. The breakfast and snacks offered were totally fresh, healthy and served with a smile. Our host had prepared an awesome itinerary for all his guests pouring in his knowledge and experiences of the area, which gave us the best trip ever. Thanks again Roger, we will be back! All I can say is WOW. If God, the universe, whatever you want to call it, has blessed you with finding this place, book now! Don't hesitate! This place is magical. I booked a trip to the redwood forest for Christmas and my 29th birthday and was recommended to this place when my original bed and breakfast fell through due to a Covid issue. I feel incredibly blessed that I was pointed to Turtle Rocks! The views are absolutely incredible, the room was so cozy, and Roger and Francine are truly a delight. I felt so cared for! As soon as I arrived, I was shown my room and the kitchen (which always has fresh cookies, coffee cakes, sodas, sparking apple juice, organic teas, organic coffee, and fruit). I grabbed a coffee cake and cookies with a hot tea and enjoyed a delightful sunset on the private balcony before settling in. Roger and Francine make fantastic breakfasts and coffee. Each morning I would go down and watch the birds and have a chat with them while they prepared a delicious and filling breakfast. I cannot speak highly enough of this place! It just felt so wonderful and cozy. I felt incredibly cared for. There is nothing like falling asleep with the balcony door cracked to the sound of roaring waves and sea lions. If you're looking for a magical experience, this is your place!! Roger even drew me a map for my drive back down the coast which took me a much better and more scenic route than my GPS was going to take me. Thank you Roger and Francine. God bless you! We visited Turtle Rocks Inn a few years ago in December. The hosts were welcoming and genuinely nice. The location can't be beaten, with rooms above the Pacific Ocean and the sound of the sea lions. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast is exceptional. While the bathroom was a little dated, everything worked great. There is a certain kitchiness to the place that makes it endearing and we can only look forward to come back again. The proximity to several old forests makes the trip worthwhile, even coming from the East Coast. It is a beautiful and relatively unspoiled area. read more

I have had my eye on this place for quite some time now. I finally jumped! The location is perfect, each room comes with an exquisite view of the ocean and a private deck. The first 2 nights I booked the suite. The deck and view had outstanding views! Absolutely breath taking. The room was large and with high ceilings and gorgeous wooden beams. It had a mini fire place that was really convenient because you will want to crack a window to listen to the ocean. ( very relaxing ) Each room has large roomy tubs, the bathrooms are a bit dated but hey! It goes with the whole ambiance... The 3rd night I moved to a smaller room with an AMAZING view also! I was very pleased with the rooms set up. They place a comfy love seat in front of the window and it's very cozy! The down sides are the beds.... they are not comfortable what so ever. Pillows yes. Mattress NO. My back is still hurting. The staff was very friendly and the smell of fresh cooked breakfast is always nice to wake up to! I will recommend to any of my friends and family! read more

Loved everything about this inn. The inn keepers' attention to detail was evident in every aspect of our stay. Our room was very very comfortable and very very clean and well appointed. A delicious, home made and generous breakfast was provided every morning by the inn keeper and the breakfast room was a cheerful spot to meet and chat with other guests. I'm sorry to ever have to give a review like this, but the interaction I had on the phone with Turtle Rocks this afternoon was the worst customer service I have ever experienced and left me in tears. -The owner refused to tell me the price of the room at first and implied that I could not afford to stay at the hotel, and claimed it was because at the beginning of the conversation I asked if they could accommodate 4 people in one room. I would have been happy to pay for 2 rooms, I was simply looking for more information. -Toward the end of our conversation the owner actually berated me and tried to make me feel bad about the fact that I had called them last out of the establishments in the area. Trinidad has limited availability due to covid restrictions, and I had been calling desperately around for a room, because I am traveling last minute due to a family emergency. At this point in the conversation I was too upset, the manager refused to make any kind of apology, so I just hung up. This is not the way customers deserve to be treated, regardless of covid stress. My experience with the manager at Turtle Rocks was an added stressor at an already stressed time, and I do not think they deserve anyone's business until they remedy the way they treat all their customers. To talk down to well meaning people because they don't sound like they can afford you is truly disgusting. read more

My husband and I took a chance on this Bed and Breakfast, and we certainly enjoyed every moment. We were driving the west coast highway and going from LA to Brookings OR. Roger and Francine were absolutely the nicest people, very informative and always had drinks available and snacks. You can hear the sea lions, sea gulls by the seaside. It was purely amazing. We loved it so much we stopped again on our way back. Francine cooks the best home made quiche, breads and cinnamon rolls. There are lots of chairs to sit and watch the waves and the beautiful sunset. Humming birds are all around and very entertaining. The rooms are quiet, very clean, and feel homey. The bed is comfortable and the bathrooms are big, nice and the shower is huge, with lots of water pressure. I highly recommend this when you are around the area. Awesome place to stay. My husband and I had the "suite" that had a panoramic view of the ocean. We are super picky about hotel beds (we travel a lot!) and I can tell you that this bed was a slice of HEAVEN!!!! We had a huge deck, big tub, plenty of room. The kitchen was open to guests for FREE beverages (soda, carbonated water, sodas, coffee and tea) plus fresh baked goods. There's a fabulous restaurant 2 miles from this place that we brought dinner back to our room both nights which was perfect to us. Honestly, while I created this account/review for this place, they don't even need it! I probably will regret giving out this gem of a place, but I am an avid YELPER, so I felt compelled. I headed up the coast with the goal of camping at Patricks Point State Park. I am so happy the campground was booked solid. I drove a few blocks and found the Turtle Rocks Inn. I had an amazing room with a deck, overlooking their beautiful gardens and of course the ocean. I had a king size bed, living room area with an electric wood stove, tub and shower. They had a TV (I didn't need it with the ocean view), they even had bathrobes. The bathroom was completely stocked, even had bath crystals. Downstairs was homemade chocolate chip cookies (the best I have ever eaten), the fridge was stocked with ice and drinks. There was a great eating area and the views very stunning. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. We had homemade cheese and squash frittata, homemade scones (again the best I've ever eaten), garlic red potatoes, chicken applewood sausage, fruit, yogurt, etc. Roger and Francine are amazing hosts, I enjoyed talking with them and learning their story. I would definitely recommend this Inn and I will be back. read more

8/2018 : This trip to Trinidad included myself, my husband and our two young boys 3 and 1. My boys had knocked over the screen, which fell and knocked over TV and the screen shattered. I was horrified. I googled the model number to see how much I could expect to pay to replace it. Francine told us to not let this ruin our day and told us we were blessed. We left to try and enjoy our day, headed to the redwoods, but still the broken TV was in the back of my mind and didn't help with our situation/marriage which was very much broken - you could probably cut the tension with a knife. I received a phone call from Roger as we arrived to the Redwoods and he explained to me that the insurance was going to cover the cost and told us to have some grace. Today I woke up thinking about how Roger and Francine gave us grace and how blessed we are to have met them and stayed in their inn. Their kindness will never be forgotten. Breakfast and coffee are wonderfully paired with locally grown products. You cannot beat the view, the sounds of the seals and waves, the smell of the sea. If you need to refresh and become renewed, or just get away from your day to day, this is a wonderful place with wonderful people who are sincerely good people. read more

This was amazing! Our first bed and breakfast and I think it could only go downhill from here. I woke up and before I lifted my head I just stared at the ocean while lying down. While staring at the ocean a whale shot it's spout! The breakfast was amazing too. All I can say is, go here. It is worth it! The breakfasts would easily be $40 at a restaurant and everything is fresh. Coffee and tea available all day. Refrigerator that is fully stocked with beverages. Fresh baked goods on the counters to snack on. They also gave us an a two day guide on what to see and how to get there for the area. We loved it! read more

We made a last minute reservation during the week and Francine upgraded us to a corner suite, which was huge and had incredible views of the ocean and a nice deck! Homemade cookies, complimentary sodas, water and fruit plus a delicious breakfast (yay for sausage and egg choices) made this place great. The other three couples that stayed the same night were older and I'd say this Inn could easily capture a younger hip crowd with an updated decor. We are 37 and 42 years old and we hesitate to stay at bed and breakfasts because it can feel like staying at your parents house with rules plus Aunt Sally next door but these rooms were really private and we would stay here again! read more

We just finished our wonderful stay at turtle rock. We were celebrating our 2nd anniversary and had room #1and it was perfect! It had a nice deck with a beautiful view of the ocean. We arrived on friday and we were treated to spouting whales everywhere! We really enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies while sipping wine and watching the whales. The sea lions were a kick and very vocal. Breakfast both days was amazing and filling. It was nice to have fresh fruit to take on our hike and cold drinks to grab on our return.
