My dad and I are in need of a last-minute place to stay near the redwoods. We found Roosevelt Basecamp through a Google search for local hotels and were so lucky that it was still available last minute. The location is incredible. There aren't many places to stay near Redwoods National park so a nice place, so something a stones toss from Golds Bluff Beach and Fern Canyon is a treat in itself. Beyond the location, the motel has been recently renovated and is very modern, clean, and comfortable. The rooms are homey and include guest books too- nice touch! I got a text from the host, Carrie, the morning of our stay with all the information detailed for us and recommendations for places to eat during our stay. There was a mix up with our room- totally an error on our part. And she went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant! As we were settling in we saw a herd of wild elk outside the window...we had tried to find some earlier and we're just thrilled to have them appear "at our doorstep" ( across the street, but you don't want them that much closer anyways!!). If you are looking for a place to stay I fully recommend booking a room here. We had such a lovely experience and will recommend to our friends!

Very cozy place to stay near Redwoods National Park. I felt comfortable and really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. In the beginning we had some trouble with the television connecting and the owner so kindly came to help us. We really thank her for her hospitality and how easy she made the check-in and check-out process feel. There is a small market across the street (which had a great item selection) and a pizza trailer/shop which was yummy. We stored our food in the mini fridge which worked perfectly and would use the microwave to heat up our food.

Comfy & cute sitting area part of suite

Not my grandma's motel - adorable and very comfortable stay! Amazing attention to detail with the remodel & excellent communication before & during visit. We loved the pizza truck across the hwy - white pizza was chef's kiss. Highly recommend!

3 stars...... 2.5 isn't an option…read more Overall experience: It ended up being an acceptable time here. There are positives and some negatives that I will explain. Main concerns: * Overpriced for overall stay / experience * Unpleasant, extremely outdated decor; hard to ignore Positives: * Beautiful ocean view * Nice garden * Close to trailheads * Communal fridge filled with cold drinks; breakfast (I know it's a B&B but for this price, in-room coffee would've been nice.) * Very clean rooms * Hosts were kind, pleasant, informative Negatives: * Decor: The first impression was alarming at best. Online photos do leave you with the impression that the decor is dated but it is overwhelming to actually see once there. I had to walk back to the car and process whether I could actually stay here. After looking up availability of neighboring lodging and seeing no options (and considering the loss of money already spent here...), we decided to go inside. Instead of walking in the door, you have to use the old, outdated intercom where you're asked if you have a reservation. After being let in, we were still experiencing a lot of feelings ("creepy" is the word we kept repeating to each other and "Grandma's estate sale".). While the host was polite and informative, the environment / decor was so outdated, it was hard to get past or ignore. I spent half the day working to force myself to not feel uncomfortable here; I should feel good about the stay - not spend considerable vacation time talking myself into not feeling grossed out by it. * Cost of stay: Considering this was the most expensive option in the area, I expected more / better. Besides the overall decor, our bath towels had bleach stains on them. And be sure to bring your own bath supplies. The ones provided that are boasted about on the website.....looks like they bought Dollar store products, stuck old-fashioned-looking labels on and have refilled over and over. I did not feel comfortable using them at all. Summary: * Nice hosts. Great view. That's it. * Would I stay again or recommend to others: Hard no. You think it's obvious to want an ocean view but I'd easily pass on the view for a more comfortable place to stay. We actually left a day early. Could be good if recommendations here and in other reviews are taken and implemented. Relying solely on "the view" isn't cutting it.

I stayed here with my husband and our 2-month-old baby. While we checked out of our room at 11am, it was storming outside, so we took a seat in the lounge to wait out the weather for a short period of time and feed the baby. Within minutes, the innkeeper, Roger, came over to tell us, rather coldly, that "the reservation ended at 11." Despite being fully out of the room and sitting quietly in a shared space (where there was no one else, as the inn wasn't even full), we were asked to leave. His tone was passive-aggressive -- particularly unkind given the circumstances. That was one of a few negative interactions we had with him. In all our travels, we've never experienced such a lack of hospitality -- especially from a place that charges over $300 a night. Most properties are more than accommodating when guests are briefly using common areas after checkout, especially with a baby and during bad weather. After our stay, we noticed some other online reviews describing similarly negative interactions with Roger, scattered among the glowing 5-star ones. Sadly, that interaction left a lasting negative impression. As a result, we won't be returning and can't recommend this BnB to others who value genuine hospitality. It's a real shame, considering the views and location.

However, the grounds were quite unsightly upon arrival with debris along the driveway and throughout the yard. The room was clean, the l towels were teal green and the bedding was a brown patterned print. There was Bigfoot decor and articles throughout the room. The fresh cut geraniums were a nice touch. I would've expected the price point to be a little lower than what we paid. The bed was comfortable. I don't know that I would recommend but if you're tired from a long drive and need a place to sleep, it's appropriate

This time the water situation was terrible, and things were really run down. The water wouldn't fill the toilet, and all water in the rooms was brown. I say rooms, because the manager moved us out of one room that we suspect was actually being lived in by someone, and put us in what he called, "a better room." We couldn't shower, we couldn't make coffee in the provided coffee pot. The bed was pretty comfortable. There is a great, safe yard for dogs to wander around in, and that's one of the reasons we liked this place. In the past the place was mowed and well-taken-care-of, but this time the grass was taller than my ankles, and I wondered if they just couldn't afford the upkeep. I don't know what's happening at the Sea Cliff Motel, but I hope for their sake they can get it together and do the upgrades they need to do. Hard to do I imagine, with so few rooms and not charging much. I think they're in between a rock and a hard place. Three stars is generous... Here's hoping.

The kitchen serves breakfast to the community and bills all guests for their meals, so just keep that in mind. If you're lucky, they'll have the cinnamon rolls when you visit, but the pancakes are incredibly fluffy too. My husband loved the yogurt with their house‑made granola. Upon arrival we were greeted by our innkeeper for the night and a snack plate that included cheese, crackers, dried fruit, nuts, and salmon was ready for us to take up to our room. The bed was comfortable and could slightly hear the sea lions from our room. No t.v. in the room and it was nice to connect with nature and rest. There was an indoor heater in the closet that we turned on to heat up the room and turned off when we slept. The blankets kept us warm at night. One night after staying out at the fire pit to hang out with other guests, we got back to our room to shower and we didn't have hot water. One of the innkeeper's told us sometimes it happens when too many people are showering at once. Not a deal breaker, although I want to share because this is something that I'd want to know. Back to good stuff...their breakfast is delicious every morning. It tastes like it is made with love. There is a trail down to the beach and a fire pit where they have all the ingredients necessary to make smores. The view is spectacular here. Truly one of a kind. The beach with the Stellar's sea lines on the rocks (could hear them from the BnB), the attention to small details in the rooms, the sounds of the waves, the great breakfast, walking through the amazing garden; it was really one of our greatest experiences on this trip. The interaction with the hosts was a bit odd though, generally seemed very annoyed most of the time; however we never had any issues getting what we needed or answering questions.
