Hurricanes is a bar and grill famous for their succulent ribs and BBQ meat. The Hurricanes menu is that popular, they have a number of venues around Sydney. You can guarantee a good protein fix there! We visited the Darling Harbour location and you can find it in the Harbourside shopping centre overlooking the harbour with a view of the Sydney skyline. It is a spacious venue with floor to ceiling glass to take advantage of the views. It is extremely large with plenty of tables, a bar and open plan so you could easily host a large party. We arrived at 12 noon and within 15 minutes the place was packed! It clearly is very popular and for good reason. We were promptly taken to our table by lovely staff and seated right at the windows with a lovely outlook. We perused the menu and began with some drinks. The passionfruit mojito was excellent, and you can also get a number of other cocktails, beers and wines from their bar. Food wise, we obviously ordered some ribs!Hurricanes are famous for their ribs and steaks and they use a unique basting sauce to provide a lovely flavour to their meats. Meat cuts are all halal certified from their suppliers and can have no sauce upon request. Since we wanted a try of all of them, we opted for the meat platter with pork, lamb and beef ribs. Whilst they were all good, pork was our favourite. They came with some tasty fries and it was a generous serving. Whilst hurricanes may not be known first and foremost as a seafood restaurant, but there's plenty of seafood options too and we found it to be of excellent quality. Perfectly cooked, the scallops and mussels were served in the open shell, and the platter came with split prawns, half a lobster, salmon fillet, tempura prawns and salt and pepper squid. Served atop a plate of rice, all items were delicious. Whilst we didn't have a steak on this visit, Hurricanes are notorious for their steak. There's numerous meats and cuts to select from. Whether it be the rump, strip stirloin, fillet tenderloin or T bone, you will find your perfect match. Wagyu, dry aged or long fed beef, Meats come with your choice of fries, salad or baked potato and you can order a sauce to accompany it. Hurricanes also serve other main menu items like beef cheeks, lamb cutlets, pork knuckle, grilled chicken, burgers and more. If you are super hungry or a couple wanting to share a meal Hurricanes have a number of combo deals. There's desserts to top off your dining experience. The menu is certainly extremely approachable so we imagine it would satisfy any dining party.

Five Stars for presentation...and the friendly and efficient service!

We stopped by during our tour of Sydney and we were very lucky to find the place only half full. I've heard this place gets quite packed most times, most days. We were immediately seated outside with a beautiful view of Darling Harbour on a clear sunny day! That view alone already voted a positive two thirds for the place... Our orders were taken quickly and arrived not too long after. And to compliment the view...the food was indeed a mouthwatering sight...with a taste to match the presentation! The place may be a bit expensive...but it was worth it for the service, the food and the ambiance! You have to experience a Hurricane in Sydney...

    Garlic mushrooms - not good

This place gives HUGE portions of food so you will definitely get your money worth. However, the food is just ok. We had a variety of food for the table so I will start with the ribs. The beef ribs had great flavor but the meat I wish was more tender. The chicken was great! We got the Portuguese spicy flavor and it was amazing! The garlic mushrooms were not good at all. I love mushrooms so I was so disappointed when I ate them. I got the steak and I ordered it medium and it was still tough. So if you like tender meat I would say rare. The potatoes that came with my steak were the best part of the entire meal. Very well made and if you add the spicy sauce it is SUPER good.

    Welcome to...

Tourist trap? You betcha! Located in Darling Harbor, 2nd level of the mall. The food itself isn't bad. Expensive side because of the high tourist traffic. Hurricane has a nice bbq/steak menu. We actually didn't have to wait too long for a table considering it was the Aussie summer, it was a weekend and there were tons of people. Yes and thumbs up on their bbq (pork ribs). The steak was decent but something you'd find at an Outback steak house in the US. Full bar and beers available. Our lunch experience was top off with our cute young American waitress. Yes, she was from Virginia. Had a slight Aussie accent and left the US to pursue school in Sydney. Good luck! You were an awesome waitress and thanks for the selfie with my son! LOL!

Combo with a steak, half rack pork ribs and sweet potato fries!

(Apologies to vegetarians/non-pork eaters in advance!) If you ever go to Sydney, you must at least have the Hurricanes full-rack pork ribs pairing it with some Sweet Potato fries (special order, you gotta ask for it)! Basically a must eat! Certainly should take the challenge to get the full rack, but for ladies, I recommend share a full rack. Sweet potato fries are awesome too! Ask them for some extra source and you are so sorted! I would have easily given them 5 stars, unfortunately it is a grill place so sometimes they can over cook the pork. Like all meat, once it's over cooked, it's wasted!

We have a tradition of ribs the day after Boxing Day! Got here just before 12pm and there already a line out the door! Got the half rack of pork ribs $39.50 with chips and a side of mushroom sauce. Service was ok but the place was pretty packed for a public holiday. Ribs were huge for a half serve! Nicely glazed in that original hurricanes sauce! Indeed top stars for the ribs (only thing is I think they are on the expensive side!) Also do the charge a public holiday surcharge.

This restaurant was insanely bustling on a Wednesday night, even after 8pm. Despite this, we put our names on the wait list and the hostess said it would be about 10 minutes for our party of 2. We waited right by the front/bar area and started to notice that couples coming in after us were being seated. They didn't appear to have reservations and walked in just like us. We had to check-in with the hostess and I think she realized we should have already been seated because she grabbed the next waitress and directly asked her to seat us then. We ordered the Salt & Pepper Calamari as well as the ribs, a combo of the beef, pork and lamb. Prices are high but expected considering you are in Darling Harbor amongst all the other restaurants frequented by tourists. Nonetheless, the ribs were very delicious. The bbq sauce had a perfect balance of smoky and sweet and my favorite were the lamb ribs!

Having relocated to Sydney from North America, I had longed for good ribs. I was always recommended Hurricanes to fill that void. We went there during the Christmas season and might I add, be prepared to wait. There was a massive queue that crowded the entire restaurant front and the mall hall way. During the wait, you can order drinks from the bar, however they are rather pricey for the typical stuff. Nonetheless we were seated roughly 30 minutes later. I knew exactly what I wanted and ordered the full rack of pork ribs with sweet potato fries, although it was quite pricey. When the meal arrived, I was initially very pleased as the full rack looked quite large, although it ended up being mainly bones.. The sauce on the ribs was a delicious sweet bbq. I still couldn't finish the full rack in one sitting but as part of my initial plan, it became my left overs for tomorrows dinner. These are still the best ribs that I've had in Sydney, although will continue searching for a better value meal.

Hurricane's is pretty much known for one thing, and one thing only...ribs. If you come here and don't get the ribs (PORK,) you should shame yourself with a sign on the side of the road saying "I failed at Hurricane's." Not getting ribs here is akin to a bunch of vegetarians going to a BBQ restaurant and asking for vegetarian options. Epic fail. Why wait 20-60 minutes (yes the queue is massive) for a restaurant if you won't get their speciality? Especially if the rest of their food is mediocre... Did I mention that you should get the ribs? If you don't and order anything else you will probably have a bad time, as the rest of their food isn't worth the long wait...including the steak. GET THE RIBS

Calamari - got into the ribs too quickly for a photo ha!
    Muntasser I.

Came when they opened at lunch. I have seen the queues here before and know if you come at peak you'd better be prepared for a long wait. Had the calamari and lamb rack. The ribs were absolutely perfect. Most venues serve overly fatty lamb ribs and its where's Wally trying to find the meat. These were perfect. Soft, juicy, tender and no overly burnt char grill. Honestly having eaten my fair share of ribs - Hurricanes is the goldilocks of ribs. Expect to order one full rack between two.

Flathead Civiche was delicious, Brussels Sprouts were super tasty, and we also enjoyed the twice cooked Pork Belly. Not so good was the Pato Ahumado. The mole was really tasty but not enough, and the breast was really tough and fatty, plus no proper cutlery provided. Really disappointing, as we couldn't eat or enjoy it and it was like we just threw $72 away. While I did appreciate their coursing, we did wait for long periods between. Cocktails were good, as was a glass of wine, but pours are very light. Recommended, for sure. Avoid the duck.

Drinks were better than the food. They stuff the families toward the back but lack any amenities (no changing table) except a high chair. Service started off friendly but it took a while to get someone to take our order and then they forgot our dish which came out cold when we asked for it. Then we had to flag someone down to pay the bill. The watermelon salad was tasty but not complex, tossed with a few cucumbers and pistachios. The corn lollipops with spicy mayo sauce were probably the best dish. The beef empanadas were cold and average though the salsa was an interesting pickled onion. Definitely skip the octopus dish- it was dry, over cooked and lacked flavor though the presentation looked promising. It came with squares of polenta and dallops of potato mash with a dramatic squid ink streak across the dish but no interesting flavors stood out. All those dishes and still left hungry. The Guadalajara passion fruit drink was easy to sip and not too strong. The beer was average. This is more of a spot to grab some mixed cocktails and a few snacks but not meal worthy.

We ended with churros & chocolate sauce which was awesome. Service was good and the staff waiting us was very friendly. He also recommended us portions for certain items to match our party size. We started with corn chips with a bean dip. The corn chips were clearly fresh and that made a big difference. Really yum and the dip was perfect to match. Next up was grilled corn with a creamy butter coriander sauce. This was nothing special. Was more looking for something a little bit spicer considering its a Mexican. The ancient grain salad was served. This salad contained quinoa, broccoli, pumpkin, chia and pomegranate seeds with a tequila sauce. This was a great choice on the menu and definitely would choose this one again. For the mains we selected Beef enchiladas and Cod. The beef enchiladas was pretty good but not exceptional and was a little light in the meat department. The cod was not what you would traditionally expect from a Mexican so figured it was a good choice to go with. It turned out to be a stellar one. The cod was beautiful and had a nice smoky sauce to go with it. Amazingly there was room for dessert and decided to opt for the Chilli Brownie. The brownie was made with dark chocolate and didn't have that overly heavy after feeling that you get from some desserts. Just didn't really notice the chilli in it though but still nice.
