To quote a prior reviewer "Why is every Orthopedic office is Pasadena so poorly run? This is the second one I've gone to and experienced a poorly run office." It's amazing how poorly run these Pasadena ortho specialists are, almost like they've been trained by experts how to create a process that is as inefficient and ineffective as possible while simultaneously insulting and disrespecting their customers. In this regard, it is an impressive place. Of course, we all know the reason: they make more money by over scheduling -- just like airlines. We all have wishful, aspirational beliefs that doctors' offices are "different" than car dealerships. They aren't: it is always about the money. So, from the general to the specific. This place is typically a nightmare in terms of timing. You really do need to schedule about 3 hours for an appointment. There is limited parking in the building, so expect to park in the adjacent lot (no validation, because that would eat into profits). Once there, you check in. Generally speaking, the staff are about as welcoming and kind as your typical Subway (sorry Subway workers, but you know it's true). You are a widget in their process. Give them your info and wait. A long, long time. Usually about 1 hour. And that's just to get past the front area. Next, they whisk you to an x-ray. Doesn't matter if you need one. Doesn't matter if you want one. Doesn't matter if you already have one. Again, it's about the money. So you get one. And before you do, you wait -- though usually only about 15 minutes here. Then you are put in a room. Yay! You'll see a doctor. Eventually. Sometimes, this room wait is 30 minutes, sometimes an hour. I've actually started to walk out and leave at this point. Finally, you see a doctor. I've seen a few here. I thought Dr. Bradley Johnson was good. He was unhurried. He explained things. He did what he could for me. Dr. Mark Jo is a different story. Same start: he seemed good, seemed unhurried, seemed to explain things. Problem is, he got it all wrong. First, he looked at the aforementioned x-ray and said your knee looks great. No problems structurally. You absolutely can run on it. But let's get an MRI to be sure. You can run in the interim. NOTE: he never touched my leg. He did not do the thing you see all doctors do on live football or basketball games to test the structural integrity of the knee. Ok, no problem, I'll run and get an MRI. I go back a few weeks later with the MRI in hand (and my knee where knees are). After the above-described wait, I get to the doctor portion of the adventure. Dr. Jo says that my MRI shows a moderately sprained ACL -- I should absolutely NOT be running on it, and he's surprised anyone would tell me I should (NOTE: that was him who did the telling). He also says that he's surprised he didn't pick it up on his first examination, you know, when he did the ACL test on my knee. I reminded him he never touched my knee at the first appointment. Oh well. So, great, I now have been running on a sprained ACL, making it worse. But at this point, I'm not really trusting Dr. Jo's opinion. I get copies of the MRI AND the MRI report. I read the report (as a non-MD, it turns out I am nonetheless able to read). Dr. Jo merely quoted the report to me. He didn't actually look at the MRI. Great. So I'm out. I go to another ortho place. This doctor (Dr. Rishi Garg) actually examines my knee with his hands. He also looks at the MRI. Both tests, he says, make it clear that my ACL is totally fine -- actually really good for my age (I later confirm this with an independent radiologist). Dr. Jo was just wrong. All across the board. Ok, so what's the lesson here? Huntington Ortho is a YUGE time suck. They are run like a for-profit business --- because they are one. Don't expect any old-school approach to doctoring here. And, if you get the wrong doctor (e.g., Dr. Jo), your care may be pretty bad. read more

This was a very stressful and poorly handled experience. My mother-in-law arrived on time at 8:30 AM for a scheduled carpal tunnel surgery and waited until 10:30 AM just to be taken into a room--only to be told it was a false alarm and sent back to the lobby. She was finally called in again around 11:30 AM, with little to no communication throughout the process. During the wait, a front desk staff member responded dismissively when my father-in-law asked about timing, showing a clear lack of empathy toward patients who are understandably anxious about surgery. To make matters worse, the doctor assured my mother-in-law twice that her prescription was sent to the pharmacy. When we went to pick it up, nothing had been submitted, leading to multiple calls and unnecessary stress while she was in pain. Do not go here, find another doctor, avoid this place like the plague. They are rude, constantly running hours, that is plural, hours behind. The other people in the waiting room are all annoyed, mostly at Dr. Burnham because he tuns way behind and his personal assistant is a very unprofessional and unpleasant. I really wanted to give them a chance but after three visits, constantly being called hours after my appointment time, spending thousands on scans, Burnham told my son, who is in pain, to suck it up. I wish that I could file a lawsuit but its a waste of time and money to try and hold anyone accountable these days. I had the opposite experience contrasted to many 1 starts on here. I arrived early and was able to get in early. They gave me the iPad and had me fill that out. It took 3 minutes to do that. They called my name about 5 minutes later. I was pleasantly surprised. My appointment was for 145 PM and I was in and taking XRAYS with a tech by 128PM. That went well. We chatted about life and he let me look at my images. In the next room a lady introduced herself by name and rank as a PA and asked me questions. A few minutes later Dr Jo entered and spent more than enough time with me. He remained professional as I expressed doubt that he was not a real Doctor as I had not seen a real Doctor in two years because my HMO is absolute garbage and I only ever see a PA. No offense to my PA peeps. Dr. Jo explained the XRAY at length, in detail, and spoke on and on about all options and possible ramifications. I don't think it was a slow day. My advantage over many reviewers is that I have been dealing with this for years and a close person in the family is also an orthopedic surgeon. I knew what I was getting into, however I did not know my current condition is so bad. Do I worry that my Doc just wants to have surgery? Yes. But is it obvious my joint is truly shot to hell? Also yes. It looks like Dr. Jo takes many insurance providers. So he does not seem to be a meat market at first glance. I will update with a possible fifth star if the surgery goes well. read more

I had a hairline fracture in my wrist and was given a hard splint to wear, was told I didnt need surgery that everything looked good and then told to "be careful" by Dr. Rizvi. The next 2 visits, 2 weeks apart, I was seen by the PA. I mentioned to her both times that the pain and swelling in my wrist and hand was not going away. She brushed it off. By the 7th week, I still had pain and swelling in my hand and wrist when I saw Dr. R again. When he looked at the xray he said, "Did you know your bone is displaced? What did the PA tell you?" I asked how is this corrected and he answered "With surgery." Long story short, I left Huntington Orthopedics and went to Pacific Orthopedics in Alhambra where Dr. Chen did surgery on my wrist just 4 days after my initial visit. Huntington Orthopedics is everything that is wrong with the US healthcare system. Back at the end of August, I suffered a distal radius fracture and a cracked ulna. I went to the ER at Huntington Hospital and left in a sling and a splint, as Dr Todd Borenstein (who was on-call that day) apparently looked at my x-rays from home and didn't feel it was worth coming to down to provide treatment. Instead, it was recommend that I book an appointment to see him in the next day or two. The next morning my wife called to make the appointment and much to our surprise, the absolute soonest Huntington Orthopedics could take me in was a full nine days later. "The next day or two" was absolute hogwash and even securing that appointment took a lot of muscle on her part. When the day finally arrived, I arrived at Huntington Orthopedics 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment and walked into a scene that could only be described thusly: imagine the Titanic had free clinic in the bowels of the ship and every passenger needed to get a tetanus shot before they were allowed to jump into the Atlantic. It was absolute and total chaos. But wait! There's more. They had no record that an appointment had been made. Even when I showed them my wife's handwriting on the referral slip that noted an appointment with Dr. Mark Jo for 9:30am the receptionist tried to gaslight me and say I didn't have an appointment. They eventually squeezed me in at 11am and Dr. Jo, who looked like he slept in his car, spent all of two minutes reviewing my x-rays and going through the motions of acting like he cared about what happened before turning me over to his closer to book a surgery. The idea of surgery was a total surprise as I left the ER under the impression that it was a very routine break that wouldn't need more than a cast. When I dared to ask Dr Jo what the surgery entailed and why it was necessary, he became flustered that I had the audacity to even speak and peaced out at the first opportunity. I told them I'd need some time to weigh my options and before I left, a tech put me in a new splint and complained about his job as he wrapped me up. Out in the hallway, I could hear the receptionists all going through their Postmates apps to see if anyone had a deal for the nearby Howlin' Ray's. Obviously, lunch is a huge priority at Huntington Orthopedics because when I was ushered back out into the reception area at 12:05 it was ghost town. There wasn't a single employee or patient in the cavernous room and I sat there watching a repeat of Ninja Warrior so long that the motion detector turned out the lights. After a couple minutes in the dark, someone who worked there came into the room and was surprised to see me left all alone like that. They advised that I could just leave and trust that the bill for the co-pay would eventually find me. And it did. Overall, it was such a disheartening experience at Huntington Orthopedics that I left my arm in the splint and let it heal itself and am now doing physical therapy via YouTube to regain my wrist's range of motion. (I did get second and third opinions from doctors I know so this plan wasn't entirely horrible.) But here's the kicker, on the way home I stopped at that Howlin' Ray's to get some Mario Fries to boost my spirits and I barely had both feet in the door before an employee noticed my shoes were untied. (Tying shoes was something I couldn't do in my current state.) Despite my assurances that I live life on the edge, that employee jumped out from behind the counter and double knotted my shoes. I wasn't about to trip and break my other arm on her watch. Meanwhile, I was at Huntington Orthopedics for three hours and nobody even noticed or cared enough to offer such a simple gesture. read more

I understand that they are understaffed and busy and are under pressure to get things done, but they all need to take a breath and remember that they are dealing with people who may have just experienced a life-changing injury. Isabella Murray, a PA, was absolutely wonderful in the way she took her time to listen to my concerns and to answer questions, but her team member Johanna maintained an insulting tone and contemptuous facial expressions from the moment she escorted me inside the office. The support staff needs proper training in manners, including how to speak to and listen to patients. The low number of stars on Yelp is a big hint to stay away if possible. read more

Unsure what department answered my call; whether it was front desk staff, a medical assistant, I'm completely unsure but my experience was extremely unprofessional and they need to enforce proper phone etiquette to their staff. Called because a medical assistant made a mistake on an authorization which we had to find out ourselves through our insurance directly. I was explaining the situation to whoever picked up the phone call and before I could even finish they rudely interrupted and went "WHAT'S THE DATE OF BIRTH". I hadn't even talked for more then 10 seconds before they interrupted me. Since I wasn't allowed to finish speaking, there was a misunderstanding & they thought I was calling to see if an authorization got inputted in but I was actually calling to speak to a technician because the authorization was put in as a normal request rather than an urgent request how we were under the impression of. Whoever I was speaking to would've known this if they would've simply just allowed me to finish speaking & not have been so condescending. Instead, they continued to talk over me and then randomly transferred my call to someone else which completely threw me off. The call was transferred and I was completely unaware of who I was speaking to at that point. A couple years ago I worked at an Orthopedic practice myself. I understand the busy work environment completely and I also understand that it can get difficult answering phone calls while also attending a patient at that very moment in person. However, it's not so difficult to kindly say "may you please hold". People come to an Orthopedic practice because they just had an injury that is preventing them from living their lives normally how they're usually use too. Because of these injuries patients can possibly lose their jobs temporarily due to their incidents, go into a difficult mental health state, and overall patients go through so much with these injuries. It's important that the place they tend to and go into with the idea of "I will be taken care of here" really takes the time to show them they truly care and aren't just another number of a patient that has came in. As someone who previously worked in an orthopedic practice, this really upset me because had it not been myself who called in but my mother directly, staff would've treated incredibly disrespectful someone who just suffered a severe accident, is going through a difficult time with their accident, and is seeking this practice for help. If I could give Dr. Jo a zero I would. In actuality if I could give the whole facility a zero I would. None of the staff that I interacted with had any idea what customer service is. That facility is a processing center. They pushed me from one room to the next and from one person to the next with not one staff member introducing themselves. That being said if you want to get in and out of a doctor's office in less than 30 mins then this is the place for you! The doctor himself gave me very little attention he even asked me 3 times within the span of 1 min when my injury occurred. He asked for my MRI results and when the assistant brought them up on the computer he did even bother looking at them. He told me that feeling pain after six months was nothing. He walked out of the room and basically said I should be better in six weeks when my knee has been the same for six months. I wish I would have read these reviews before coming here. I completely wasted an afternoon at this place and have nothing to show for it. People deserve better than to be treated this way - please be informed before you go here! This place is a factory, basically existing to drive up costs to insurance. There were massive amounts of patients waiting when I arrived, with a constant line at reception. I waited for nearly an hour after my appointment time before even being called to the secondary waiting room. I watched patient after patient without appointments being brought in and out. Immediately on being brought back to see the doctor I was told I must get X-rays first. Why? The doctor doesn't even know the nature of my injury/pain, how could they have determined I need X-rays? Staff was rude when I asked to see the doctor first, having a little whispered conference down the hall before warning that the doctor wouldn't do anything if I didn't get the X-rays. Huge red flag and clear cash grab. Ultimately the staff put me in a room and never came back, no doctor, nothing. My time is as valuable as anyone else's and frankly we all deserve better than this type of scam institution. I decided to leave and hopefully won't have to fight insurance after this nightmare of a visit. A complete waste of time AND the $6 parking. read more

Long waits, rushed care, no results. Been waiting just over an hour for what would be a quick follow up visit with no explanation of the delay. Asked receptionist how much longer as I might need to reschedule. They searched for an answer but were unable to help. My first visit had me waiting about 30 minutes (and I was the first patient of the day) and the visit felt rushed. Also, my injury is still not doing any better 6 weeks later. Very disappointing. Lobby is clean and calm so I was giving it a second star for that. But I'll wait about ten more minutes and see if they deserve it. It's been 15 more minutes. Close to an hour and a half waiting. I need to leave and reschedule but now the receptionists have left for lunch. I have a feeling no one is here and I'll be waiting until they return from lunch. I'll definitely not come back here after my follow up (need to get my MRI results). If you have a choice in care I recommend you steer clear of this one. Quick update. As I was leaving, they finally came to take the person in front of me who was waiting for longer than I was! They told me they should have a room for me soon. I explained I needed to go and that I've been waiting for an hour and a half. The staff member, Julie, replied with "I don't know what you want me to do". Um, Maybe start with an apology for the delay? And maybe not be an hour and a half behind without explaining to the people waiting. Or maybe Julie needs some training in her people skills. Unpleasant and entitled, not sure she should be caring for people in pain. OK that's it, you can see by my reviews that I have a good share of positive reviews when they deserve it and I'm not afraid to call people out when they fail. There's no excuse for disrespectful behavior and treatment. Oh, and in case it helps you in avoiding doctors or their clinics, I was there to see Dr. Burnham. Since merging with a plastic surgery office the care has changed dramatically for the worse. Very unorganized staff. Lots of mistakes.

This review is for the reception staff (specifically the main receptionist) and the wait times. The main receptionist (Jeane, I think) is not friendly and was very short / temperamental). She was frazzled and all over the place. Also their iPad application is non-sensical since you have to randomly pick from any option even if the questions don't apply to you. You need to do this so that you can move to the next page. After almost an hour and a half of waiting, I asked about my appointment again and they simply informed me that my doctor is running late. It would've been nicer if they had informed me earlier so that I wouldn't be wondering if the reception staff forgot about me. I've given up on trying to get through to this office. It doesn't seem like the front desk cares if the patients get through or not. From waiting weeks on end for a call back that never came, to being hung up on while on hold, I've officially run out of ways to get them to give me the time of day. I had an authorization for Rizvi at his other office across town. I live 10 minutes from this office, so I wanted to see about getting it redirected. I was bounced back and forth from my insurance and both his offices until I finally got it confirmed that I needed to get the clinic coordinator at this location to request a redirect to my insurance. I left an email, and didn't heard back. I called and left a message, a week later I still hadn't heard back. I called again, still no answer. It's now been over a month of me trying to get someone at this office to get things going for me and I am tired of wasting my time. When I came in for the follow up visit, my appointment was at 8:15 and I was the 3 person who had checked in. I saw on the check in list that there were at least 3 other patients who had 8:30 appointments for the same doctor. I saw several people who had arrived after me being called. After half an hour I asked for my copay back and told them I was leaving. They said it would take about 40 hours for it to go back to my card. Three days later it's not there yet. I have degenerative disk disease and I'm 30 years old . Dr Burnham has done multiple procedures and epidurals , one including a cervicle disk replacement. My journey has not been an easy one and I'm sure he's so annoyed with me as a patient, but let me tell you something about this man. I have a 9:15am appointment. I arrived at 9:10am, and have been waiting for over an hour. The lobby has been filling up with patients. At this point, I've been exposed to anyone who may have COVID for over an hour. When asked how much longer do i have to wait, the receptionist said that Dr. Rizvi is a specialist so it takes longer. Then what's the point of making an appointment. We are in a pandemic! If you cannot accommodate the patients, do not schedule the appointments so close together! While waiting in the office for over an hour, i didn't see anyone coming out to sanitize the chairs or anything. Since this is a medical facility, you would think that they will take extreme precautionary measures. Another issue that i had was that i noticed my address was incorrect on the last visit. My parents and I can't say enough about good things and how happy we are with Dr. Borenstein. My dad went to him with a lower back and knee pain and unlike other doctors Dr. Borenstein took the time to listen to my dad's concerns and pain. Dr. Borenstein made recommendations and explain the symptoms he was experiencing and made sure that all my dad's concerns were addressed. Overall I had a great experience here! Ernest Reyes really helped me out and explained everything thoroughly and kept me in the loop. He was very personable and professional, but kept it light and friendly. The entire staff here from front desk to PTAs are all polite and show care in their work. I had an MRI at the Huntington Orthopedics MRI office this week. If I had known it would take two weeks to have my MRI read by the radiologist for my broken shoulder, I would not have gone there. (To compare, a recent MRI for my husband somewhere else for same thing had results in 24 hours.) The staff I spoke with at the orthopedics office were not helpful. They should take a lesson about guest relations at a hotel chain in how to treat customers. Lessons learned: Always ask questions before having a test done. And don't trip and fall. read more

The negative comments regarding the horrid customer service, particularly from the Personal Assistants are real. The PA's at Huntington Orthopedic are extremely rude, abrasive, condescending, lazy, incompetent, unprofessional, unhelpful, uncaring, and difficult to deal with. The priority of any medical clinic should be to help the patients as best as possible, and I saw none of it at Huntington Orthopedic Surgical Group. These people do not care about their patients and only want your money. They will not go out of their way to assist patients in need and will treat you as nuisance. So please, do yourself a favor, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HUNTINGTON ORTHOPEDIC SURGICAL GROUP BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE WILL WASTE YOUR TIME AND MAKE A FOOL OUT OF YOU. read more
