I have a family member that goes to this pt clinic and they wanted to leave a review. They thought this clinic was a money mill service. Many of the patients are lost and confused with the work outs they are provided. Others are seen waiting to be helped. They also wanted to point out seeing so many patients at a time seem almost unnecessary, which looked like it lead to a lack of quality of instructions during the exercises. They have aides running around back and forth to each patient, juggling trying to help everyone out all at once. It seemed like inefficient system. The patient experienced help from a new aide who seemed to have made a slight mistake. They both were then accompanied by the office manger telling the aide he is wrong. And instead of helping and teaching the workout the office manger came off as rude and blunt to both the aide and patient when trying to explain the mistake. His actions felt very discriminative. Would not recommend this clinic. read more

Outstanding team and facility! I had a worker's comp injury to my right bicep that caused it to be completely torn. I couldn't hold a cup of coffee for more than ten seconds. After working with Dr. Sean Kim, I saw huge improvements. He was very personal and passionate about getting me back to full strength. I would not recommend this physical therapy facility. I have been to several physical therapy clinics before, so I have a basis for comparison. When you first come in, you are evaluated by the doctor. I have no complaints about that part, Dr. Sean Kim was excellent, very knowledgeable, and took the time to explain my condition clearly. However, after the initial evaluation, the structure of this facility changes. A physical therapist aide takes over for the therapy exercises, and you do not receive consistent one-on-one guidance. During my session, the aide did not clearly explain the exercises. She briefly told me what to do and then stepped away to check on other patients or attend to other tasks. I had several questions throughout the exercises, but she was often not available, and when she returned, she struggled to provide clear answers. In practice, you are mostly given a printed sheet of exercises and left to complete them on your own. This was concerning, especially considering that some patients are seniors who may need closer supervision to avoid injury or reinjury during their therapy. Overall, the facility seems focused on moving as many patients through as possible rather than providing the level of attention and support that physical therapy requires. Additionally, the customer service experience was not positive. Based on my experience, I would recommend considering other physical therapy clinics that provide more consistent supervision and patient support. read more

Everyone here is friendly and the PT is thorough in his exams and evaluation. One problem here is that it feels like a bit of a factory, and after several weeks I started to notice that every patient was doing basically the same routine. Another small criticism is that the assistants don't always seem to correct people's exercises and often walk away to help other people. There seems to be no explanation for how long to wait before sets nor do assistants seem really able or willing to recommend variations or additional reps etc. my insurance pays for this place so it's ok, but if I had my choice I'd look for a place with more individualized programs. Also, please stop talking to elderly people like they are children. Overall, a decent place though feels a bit like fast food. read more

I am a fan of this place! At my age (68) over the past decade or more I've used several other local PT facilities, and found them eager to sign me up, then indifferent, commercial and inattentive. Some even bad-mouthed their competition. Functional PT in Pasadena on Colorado Blvd. is quite different from the others I've used: FPT is professional, the staff are attentive and caring, and there's no upsell or marketing done, just health-care. I have used FPT for various issues (legs and shoulders) over the past few years and I've seen how they deal with others with greater challenges than mine, with various levels of need and languages, and the staff listen to the patients, coaching and nurturing, albeit it always busy. Of course, if I followed all of my Dr.'s and FPT's instructions, I might have better progress, but they key is achieving progress, which I do, and THAT happens thanks to Functional Physical Therapy! read more

My insurance is not the best, so when I was referred to this place, I was wary, as usual. Personally, I've had a long history of having to fight for decent care, not GOOD care, just decent. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing place, but I truly did not care bc my baseline of care was so low anyways. Right from the get go, Dr. Isaac (wow it's been 4 months and I still don't know his last name) came across as incredibly kind and patient. I had an ACL reconstruction with a patellar graft on my left knee and I was already a month behind starting PT bc of insurance issues, so I was not exuding positive energy. Plus, it's scary to have a male stranger you've just met touch you and physically examine you, yet he made me feel safe the entire time. Prompting me what his next step was going to be, being v considerate. More than that, he answered every question I had, even cheeky stupid ones, with a care and compassion that I am certainly not used to. I've had doctors give me looks after asking a question about my own body as thought I'm stupid for even asking in the first place and making snide remarks that "some things are common sense". He is supportive as my recovery grows and kindly reminds me that I should "ice more". I would follow him to another practice if he moved. He truly seems to care about his patients. The PT Aides are friendly and helpful. I've really started to get to know some of them, and have some kind of jokey rapport with them, it's really sweet. I look forward to PT every week, and am not looking forward to my last day there. I finally started jogging recently. This is big for me. I was so scared I'd lose functionality of my knee. I still am. I have months to go before I'm fully healed and I know I won't be in PT forever, but I feel so much better and I feel confident in my recovery and strength growth under Dr. Isaac's eye. FIRST Appointment scheduled for 9am. with PT doctor. Doctor didn't see me until 950am. No apology. Doctor explained the types of exercises I'd be doing when I met with the pt after my consult with doctor. Rather than being assigned a physical therapist who should have been familiar with my case, I probably saw 3 - 4 therapists on that first visit, and on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th visits. They give you whomever is available when you are ready to move to next routine/exercise. The therapists glance at your chart to see the next exercise on the list but appear to know little about your specific condition. The exercises I was given had almost nothing to do with the condition I was there to have treated. The worst part is at the end of the last exercise Dr. Personality would come back and squeeze my injured hand for several seconds as hard as he could which was excruciating. He mumbled something about how this was beneficial. My hand would throb for the entire rest of the day. After the 4th visit with my hand being more painful than ever, I stopped going. I'm not trying to make my physical therapist my best friend but there should be some rapport between the person treating you rather than some rando being assigned to the patient for each routine who appears to know nothing more about you, the patient, except the next exercise on the list. Disappointing. Fortunately, I found another Physical Therapy practice where each therapist is dedicated to one patient for the full 50 - 60 minutes of the session. We have a rapport, they motivate me to stay on course with my home exercises and I actually look forward to each session. FUNCTIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY WAS NOT FUNCTIONAL FOR ME. First thing I have to say terrible customer service called multiple times never got a call back !!! I set up my physical therapy which went terrible, 1 time was good enough for me. I am a certified personal trainer and the way they do their therapy is terrible they have 5 client's for one therapist at the same time !!! therapy supposed to be a 1 on 1 but no not here. .my therapist was good but he was attending multiple people at once for different things i felt like I was wasting my time. I don't quite get the negative comments here. I've had physical therapy other places and it's very much the same. They give you some sort of examination based on your complaint, they tell you what they think is happening, you get some exercises to do, and then they show you how to do them. No, they're not paying attention to you for every moment. They watch long enough to see that you understand the exercises, leave you to do them, then check back at the end to see if you had questions, and get you started on the next set. The bulk of the work will be done at home. They're just making sure that the exercises are appropriate and that you know how to do them. I've found the staff quite friendly and engaging, and they come up with alternatives if something isn't working. Ultimately it's up to you to understand the exercises and make sure that they get done. read more

My mother came in today because her primary doctor recommended this place due to the pain in her mid back. Doctor was really unprofessional and didn't bother to introduce himself. Majority of the exercises he had my mother do didn't even correlate with her back pain, and ended up making my mother feel worse. The entire time he sounded like he was in a bad mood and very impatient. My mother is already old and she was struggling with certain movements, and instead of being patient and understanding with mother, he would simply tell her she wasn't cooperating. No issue with most of the staff, just the girl behind the counter didn't know how to be welcoming. I did not have a mask on me so I asked her to give me one , very normal like any other place. She insisted on me going back down to my car and pick up one. She could've said sorry sir , we ran out of masks or apologize but nothing like that came out of her mouth. She needs to be trained how to talk to people no matter if she was having a bad day or else. Let's see if she would change her way of talking the next time or maybe have a box of masks just in case patients forgot theirs like I did. read more

Dr.Issac is really kind, caring, and works with you. The staff here are all incredibly great and I have had zero negative experiences here. But I can't recommend Dr.Issac enough. I visited this place one time due to some leg pain. My authorization was for an evaluation and treatment. I met with the doctor who was super nice and detailed. After our meeting, I was shown various exercises to help my condition. I asked about treatment and was told that I have to wait until next time. Unfortunately their hours are limited and I was not able to get my 2nd appointment for 2 weeks since I work full time and this is not work related. I ended up cancelling before my second appointment because I cant imagine spending $20 for every visit so that someone can help me do a set of 5 basic exercises. I was pretty disappointed that my authorization for treatment was not honored during my first visit as I really needed some relief. read more

This place is great. Dr Isaac is very professional and knows exactly what he's talking about. My conditions improved a lot. Everyone that works here is very nice and helpful. I think it's important to know that PT is not a magic pill, after the doctor points out your problems and gives exercises to correct it, you have to put in the work and be consistent. I was sent here for PT because I had a severe herniated disc and it was really bad. I've been coming here for a month now and let me tell you with the help from the staff and therapist I have just about made a full recovery. When I started I was confined to my walker I have now broken away from it and can walk on my own. I'm so thankful for their help, guidance and kindness. The staff here is wonderful best customer service I could ask for. The wait time for your session to start is very minimal which I very much appreciate. First off, when reading reviews from 2 years back I was very skeptical but a lot has changed since those reviews. Everyone there is very friendly, proactive in getting everyone to there next exercise, and they have a iPad to do payments with credit card( paper receipts are optional but they can email your receipt). I have been getting physical therapy for my left Knee due to ACL reconstruction surgery for the last 2 months. I came in in pretty bad shape, my leg only had bent 20degrees due to my scar tissue forming at a rapid rate. The therapist Dr. David Im is very professional, funny, and pushes me to get that knee to bend (no pain, no gain). Also, Valerie & Stanley have been helping me with my exercises since the beginning and are very helpful in pushing me throughout the whole experience. I have now been able to bend my knee at 120 degrees and am ready to start strengthening my leg! In conclusion, this place is very good, has great staff, and great exercise plan tailored for each person. read more

First time here and what a bad experience. Let me first start off by saying I was there on behalf of my workman's Comp claim and we had scheduled with with Valerie over the phone for April 11 @ 4pm. Valerie put me in as April 1st and where I can see that may be a mistake they weren't acting like they were at fault (which they were) The appointment was called on April 4th so how does it make any sense that my appointment was April 1st? Horrible customer service. They labeled me as a no call no show and didn't even have the courtesy to at least call me and let me know I was late for my non existing appointment. I have never been to physical therapy before, so I have nothing to compare to, but Functional physical therapy gave me a really good experience. the therapist I visited with seemed really knowledgeable about my body after examining me. He gave me some exercises to make my hip feel better, to practice there, and work on at home. I noticed a difference even after walking out the door on my first visit. The good thing about visiting here is that the exercises they gave me to do are already working. After two days I had a little less pain and a little more mobility so I'm happy with those results. However...I really don't like to write bad reviews, so instead I will write what they need to improve on before I would go again. I spoke to the front desk person, a doctor, and two therapists during my visit. (This is during the COVID-19 pandemic and I was already concerned about having to go into an office for treatment, rather than having a video appointment. I was right to be concerned.) -Say hello to your patients, ask they how they are feeling; not one of the staff asked me that. One therapist didn't even look at me, just took the paper and put me on a machine. Patients are in pain and should be made to feel comfortable, mentally as well as physically. -Other doctor's offices have a jar marked "clean pens" so I know they've been cleaned. I hope the pens were cleaned but having a sign would make me feel much better about it when filling out the forms. -Provide hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes near the equipment (pulley handles, resistance bands, wall finger walk) that is being used by all the patients. It's not enough to say that you clean it, you have to do it between each patient. I didn't see anything cleaned before or after I or the other patients used it. -Keep 6 feet of social distance between every person there, including all staff and patients from each other. Put measured-out X's on the floor so we know where to stand or sit safely. -Don't touch my stuff. Don't move my purse/bag to a place where I can't see it. If you want me to move my bag, ask me and I'll be happy to do it. -Have a trash can near the door for the cleaning wipes for when patients leave. I hope that they will improve their cleaning and will make it obvious to the patients that it is being done so they have one less thing to worry about. And I hope they will say hello. read more

I totally agree with Hank W.'s previous comments of 7/15/21. Dr. Isacc is an excellent therapist who knows exactly which exercises are necessary to alleviate the pain of an area. I can't recommend Functional Physical Therapy highly enough. All the assistants there are also very good. read more

My PCP referred me here for a tingling sensation in my back which I already knew wasn't going to help me much but I was willing to give it a try. The negatives are pretty big however: 1. The doctor pretty much saw me for the initial visit only. Also my appt was at 4pm and I wasn't seen until 5pm. 2. Every time I came the PT aids would demonstrate ALL the exercises and watch me do them. The PT himself only saw me to consult me but never showed me exercises and never watched me do them. the PT aids were ALL super friendly and nice which was this place's saving grace however I wasn't sure if I was doing any of the exercises correctly 3. Lastly, I was only charged 5 dollars for my co-pay each time I went (which is what is on my insurance card). Later on I got a bill stating that I owed 30 dollars per visit as my copay. I called them and they were nice enough to review it for me and they later told me that it was a mistake on the billing department and it was waived. A week I called my insurance company to double check and they told me now owed $100 (since I had 4 visits). I feel like this was very irresponsible on their part in terms of updating me on how much my copay was. I called them again and they told me that my insurance copay was $30 but my insurance card copay was $5. They only went off what my card said, but didn't check the portal I guess. I wish they had told me up front that each visit was $30 dollars. I would have definitely only gone once since i definitely don't think each visit was worth the $30. Now i owe an additional $100. As I had mentioned before I loved all the PT aids and they were all super friendly. If I didn't have the copay issue I would say this was a 3 star establishment but the lack of professionalism with the billing department and co-pay problem definitely set them back. read more

Came here for a recovering rhomboid spasm in the back and a longstanding shoulder injury from falling on crazy Canadian ice years ago. Staff is friendly and you can tell they work hard, but there were a few things that unfortunately put a damper on the experience. The most obvious is that they seem really short-staffed, so the assistants are continuously running around and can't watch you through most exercises because they're helping 5-10 other people at the same time. Not sure if that's normal for PT, but as someone new to the process it's a bit disorienting - there were a couple times the ice I was on felt a bit frostbitey and I wasn't sure when someone was coming back to help me remove it. There was also some confusion with my copay, which understandably happens, but ended up being pretty stressful originally paying $80 for 4 sessions and then suddenly being told halfway through it would actually be $120, and getting charged extra for the difference so far. The staff did get back to me a few days later clarifying that the original copay was correct and I shouldn't have been charged extra, but by then it had been a headache calling my insurance and work benefits multiple times, and reading through crazy insurance documents trying to figure it out. Finally, Dr. Im was helpful, and the first session felt more thoughtful, but the last session felt kind of half-hearted. I didn't get a clear update on my progress, and didn't get the option of more PT, which I've seen other clients receive. Maybe he didn't think I needed it, but it would have at least been nice to hear that instead of being asked about my pain levels and then getting left hanging about next steps. A staff member ended up confirming for me that I won't have more PT as I was leaving. In all, nice and hard-working staff, but they definitely need more people and could improve on customer service. I wouldn't say I'm fully recovered, but guess at least it's a start. read more

They are very disrespectful of the patient's time. Appointments are all but meaningless. The staff is friendly, but overstretched - the place is severely understaffed. There is always a long wait past the scheduled appointment time, even in the morning. There are always gaps between the exercises during the session, since the staff is multitasking with several patients at a time. But by far the worst offender is "Dr." Im. Twice I had to wait 30 min past my scheduled appointment time for him to "evaluate" me. After no sign of him, I had to leave to go back to my work. Even when I did see him during the sessions in the past, it was all very brief and superficial, and there was always a wait. Very unprofessional. I just feel sorry for the young staff. read more

This places billing department is absolutely terrible. When I first came they told me my copay was $5. After I was done with my 4 sessions of PT (which were utterly a waste of time) a month later I got a bill from them for $100. It turned out each of my visits was actually $30. I had to call several times and I finally agreed to just pay the $100 but they waved $25. Then another 2 months pass and I get ANOTHER BILL saying I owe them another $80 dollars. Just ok. Not impressed with the place. I wish the place is a bit nicer, especially the treatment room. The physical therapist doesn't seem sincere or compassionate. A few people I interacted with seems apathetic like they are there because they are there and don't really care about the job. I wouldn't recommend family to go there if they have a choice. Not thrilled. The staff is not terribly friendly to a new client. I was seen for recovery from a sub-talar (ankle) fusion. After my initial evaluation visit, the doctor spent literally 2 minutes with me. Otherwise all I did was repeat the same exercises I do at home. Not going back. read more

In July 2013 after three weeks of doctor referrals, x-rays and an MRI for my shoulder I was still in pain from trying to open a stuck window. Then I was referred to Dr. David Im, at Functional, Physical Therapy and Fitness with a doctors's note stating shoulder pain. Dr. Im did a series of arm and body movements with me confirming a diagnosis of impingement. That first day with gentle movements he lessened the pain; I was so grateful to get relief. This past Christmas I injured my knee and my shoulder. After several weeks of x-rays and MRI's and continuous pain, I arrived at Dr Im's. He began physical therapy that relieved my epicenter of pain immediately. Dr. Im's assistants are welcoming, knowledgeable and professional as they assist with the physical therapy exercises. Moreover, Functional's second story office window provides a beautiful skyline view that fills the room with light. read more
