I had an injury to my pinky at work and the doctor referred me to have OT done on my pinky and hand. Cindy Lum was assigned to me and I could not be happier. I'm am on my 16th visit and she listens to my concerns and is very careful not to injure my hand even worse. I have never been to therapy before and was not sure what to expect. She was very patient with me and now I am very comfortable visiting. The office staff is really friendly and will always try and accommodate to your schedule. Now I've received a third bill for an appointment two months ago. The front office staff was unhelpful. I had to call and verify my own benefits bc Alex couldn't do his job. The therapist, Cassie, WAS AMAZING! She listened and helped me for a long time. We dialed my splint in perfectly! Sadly, at the end of my office visit I was berated by Jason with the Kerman Jobe institute. He let it be known that he does not appreciate disabled people and even yelled at the office manager who came to help us bc the situation was so out of hand. Jason, stop taking the roids. Your rage is a serious issue you need to address ASAP. Jason didn't affect this rating as he is with Kerlan Jobe. They have been dealt with separately. I am a long standing patient of Cedars-Sinai. I wanna preface my review with a little bit of my background to give it more merit. I've been in physical therapy on and off since I was 18, I'm 30 now. Been to over 15 PT offices I came to select physical therapy Pasadena after a horrible experience at the downtown location. So far my experience with Nathan Hyland (USC student) has been so amazing. As far as physical therapists go he's exactly the therapist you would want to see- focused, EXTREMELY knowledgeable, but most importantly motivating. Looks like Select Physical Therapy is trying to cover their tracks because this is a public review. LIES. If Edgar Hussein had denied wrongdoing and Joanna Lamas and Greg Jue had communicated that to me on the phone (like their yelp response is claiming) I would have been even more furious - wouldn't one think I would have included that in my initial review? It's because I was told he expressed remorse, "wanted to do better" and would be "disciplined" in a manner they could not legally disclose to me that I didn't press charges and felt writing the review would be sufficient. The only reason I did not take legal action was because SPT had taken responsibility for the incident in a private phone call. Now that they are turning around in public and lying, I feel compelled to make clear that I will not be silenced. I would be willing to testify in a court of law or to law enforcement of not only the incident itself but my lengthy conversation with their HR. Given the evidence that they know exists, SPT would not be able to make the same claim. This sort of cover-up response from SPT is exactly why women are afraid to come forward. Shameful. The point of this review was to warn other women for the purpose of considering my experience before choosing SPT(Pasadena). If you're reading this and have your doubts about what I am saying, just consider as you're making your decision on whether or not to choose SPT that I have no reason to lie and nothing to gain in revealing something very painful and upsetting, while on the flip side, SPT has every reason to lie and deny the truth publicly. I will start off and say that "I absolutely drink the kool-aid and I love Select Physical Therapy". Edgar is seriously one of the best PTs out there, in my humble opinion. This review is a long time coming....like 12 years worth since that's how long I've gone there. I got hit by a car riding a bike, which caused super messed up lifelong back issues (from my cervical to lumbar spine), 2 year long acl rehabs, some more back pt, some other injuries I'm sure I've forgotten as well as referring my wife and her ailments (she a professional tennis instructor). Over the years, no joke, I've probably spent more time than a past employee (a bold claim I know). I am also accident prone. In college, I worked as a Student Athletic Trainer and worked with PTs and Trainers for athlete rehab. I'm a bit of a snob on treatment because I know what basic PT some places offer (still absolutely sufficient care) but i also know there is another level of rehab for athletes/higher performance. I know the many different exercises you can do to each part and the variety. I'm not a professional gym rat but I can be a weekend warrior or adventure seeker, so even though I have a computer job, that doesn't mean that's my lifestyle. The PT quality reflects that. I also love seeing PT students doing their medical rotations in the practice. It's nice watching them get hands on training and I love overhearing medical info, tricks, what they should feel for, etc from the therapists. I'm also a super patient person, I got to do that to a lesser degree in college that I'm game for it....plus with 2 year long rehabs for ACL surgery, after the first one, you're a pro at every step and routine....sure I'll be a guinea pig. I'd rather the next generation get to learn or feel what injury x feels like to be that next level therapist. I also have seen the other PTs in action and they are great too. I also love the overall up attitude of everyone. Which, when you're hurt, mental health is super important. Having that positivity is huge. Sometimes I like quiet time and get my stuff done, but I know I need to get out of my head at times....a lot of times. Plus, the view from the windows doesn't suck. I know people get frustrated in the beginning of a new PT treatment of any facility, they want all eyes on them or that they might be "tired out/pushed too hard" initially. But what they may not understand, is that is the process. You were sent to PT to rehab injury x, AND, you're also there because your pt has assessed what muscles are weak surrounding the injury and have built a rehab plan tailored to you specifically. They are pushing and targeting said muscles (so it may feel uncomfortable versus just rest) because they are either underdeveloped and/or trying to build them up....that way those muscles can help support the load evenly around injured part x and reduce pain. That's also why the Dr writes a set amount of time for pt....it might not always feel great in the beginning, but that's because they're making the injury better + build muscle around it (it's good pain, not bad pain....bad pain is what brought you in....if you're not getting that while in there....yay). By the end, you'll feel a percentage better. It's a process. Pro athletes aren't magically cured in a day from any injury...and they have a team of people and getting work everyday and in the best shape of their lives. You're not going to be the exception. That's a tough pill to swallow, especially when you hurt or just want to get better. Trust me, I know this better than most...time and time again. That's my 2 cents... Some people love other PT practices because the love a certain treatment or level, and that's awesome. Select Physical Therapy is my cup of tea for what I'm looking for as a patient/person...k, good talk. read more

Both doctor and facility seemed great. But I observed a very concerning lack of compliance with social distancing guidelines. Mask compliance is 100%, temperature check at the door, but once you're inside, no one is monitoring how close they are to each other. Obviously, when doing treatment or assessment that requires hands-on, you'll be close to the PT or aides. But there was no effort being made to keep staff or patients distanced when close contact wasn't required. Do not go here if you have any reservations being in close proximity with strangers during the pandemic. I won't be returning. read more

Staff is completely RUDE & UNPROFESSIONAL! Came here for a consultation with my husband who is a disabled Veteran. He has a shoulder injury and needed a second opinion. As soon as we arrived at the door, the staff (don't care how busy it may be or what they have personally going on in their lives) were condescending and rude. Tried talking over my husband, etc. Would never recommend or come back to this location again. I understand there is a lot going on right now, but be grateful you have a job during these times and treat others with respect. read more

I made the appointment about 4 days in advance over the phone. I arrive to find out I'm not on the list. Miscommunication and not professional. No one was in the front desk to talk to. I called my insurance where they began to make phone calls and then people started coming to the front where they eventually just told me to go to the back. The session was very basic work. I've been to 4 different PTs in my life and very basic traditional methods of PT. Oh and they don't validate parking. In the front when I asked they laughed and said no. Rude. Parking was $11.25. I injured my knee, wrist, hand and arm after a fall. Before coming here, I had difficulty walking and doing basic life functions. After working with Suzanne for my arm,hand, wrist I am gaining some motion and strength back. Suzanne is amazing and takes my concerns Seriously. Aaron is my therapist for my leg. He is Amazing. I was on a wheelchair and cane. After working with him I rarely use my wheelchair. After surgery, he has helped me walk and improve my range of notion and leg strength. Suzanne Windus has done a great job helping me recover from the dislocated index & middle fingers on my right, dominant, hand. I really appreciate her insight on the healing process, nerve recovery and when to start strengthening exercises. My first visit was 2 weeks after the injury and a week after the ER cast was removed. The stretching exercises over the following 6-7 weeks made sense to me and improved my mobility & dexterity significantly. Then the exercises got more strenuous and ultrasound started. My strength & dexterity have improved over the past 5-6 weeks, but I have a way to go for full recovery. My interaction with the front office has been limited to initial forms & scheduling. The only improvement I'd like to see is an intro to the elevators unusual controls for new folks (select your floor & then enter the specified elevator), and notice of the higher than expected parking rates under the building. Street parking ranges from 1 hr. to 4 hr. and Pasadena enforcement seems swift. read more

I injured my shoulder in early September playing tennis. My doctor diagnosed it as a severe strain of my shoulder and its ligaments. He recommended Select Physical Therapy to rehab my shoulder. I spent about eight weeks working with Megan and her associates working on my shoulder. I have nothing but positive things to say about the experience. First it was to accompany my mother after shoulder surgery, and now for my own two knees Throughout my time, I have seen many patients of both genders and of all age groups. Though the physical therapists are mostly male, everyone from staff to intern is nothing but polite, courteous and respectful. The environment is relaxed and open which is refreshing as physical therapy is often incredibly painful. Avoid coming here. The front desk is absolutely horrible. They never pick up the phone and are extremely unfriendly and rude. I tried two days to call and make an appointment. I had to actually drive to the office to do that because no one returned my call after leaving a message. When I showed up they didn't even say hi or ask how I could be helped. I asked why they don't pick up the phone and Jacklyn said it never rings. She took my daughters prescription and my insurance card and drivers license and started entering it in the system and then told me the first available was in 2 weeks. I told her that my daughter needed to start as soon as possible. She suggested the fair oaks location. I called while still in their office and got an earlier appointment so I told her to cancel the one she made. After leaving I got a voicemail while driving home from the fair oaks office saying my daughter needed to be discharged from the Lake location before being seen at Fair Oaks. I tried calling the Lake office 5 times. Again, no one answered and I only get the recording. I turn around and drive back to Lake only to be told by Jacklyn that I have to wait till she finishes typing something before helping me. Again, no hi or apology for the inconvenience. She tells me she discharged my daughter and so I ask for the copies of my insurance card and drivers license back. She insists that she gave it to me. I told her she only gave back my daughters prescription. She starts looking around her desk and can't find it. I ask if she made copies or just scanned it. She says she only scans them. Then why did you insist that you gave me the copies? This is a place that is suppose to treat my child and they can't even secure my info or make an appointment without issues. I ended up losing my appointment at the fair oaks location because of Jaclyn's incompetence. I don't understand why this had to be so difficult. read more

I am a big fan! I was first referred to Edgar and his colleagues after an injury to my Achilles tendon maybe a dozen years ago. A few years ago, they helped me recover after arm surgery. And now they are helping me with a knee issue. Results have been great every time. Edgar and the rest of the team are very knowledgable and a pleasure to work with. In addition, I greatly appreciate all of the precautions they are taking to protect patients during the pandemic. Disappointed. I went there 3 times and stopped for the following reasons: 1) The orthopedist did not provide sufficient information to the therapist, so the PT made assumptions and improvised treatment, disregarding my input which was that I work very hard with my legs on a daily basis. They would wear my legs out so that I was unable to work on those days as I had no energy left after I'd leave therapy. 2) NO privacy whatsoever in treatment or when discussing condition. I'm only aware of the one big room I was in. Everything was done there while patients were all around me. I didn't care to inform the world of my condition and physical issues, but was given no other option. Other patients were so close to me, which begs the question, what about physical distancing during covid. But NO ONE should have to disclose medical information in an open room in such a setting. That's abusive. 3) Communal setting - the privacy is also lacking when around obnoxious patients who want to talk your head off while you're resting or having your legs iced after treatment. That part was SO UNPLEASANT. I don't care about socializing in a PT context, especially being forced to listen to people 4) Constant changes of therapists are confusing - A therapist, whom I thought was working with me, would tell me to do an exercise and then they'd disappear. I'd wait and wait and eventually another therapist would show up and continue without explaining why the previous therapist wasn't returning. 5) No free parking. This is in a congested part of Pasadena. I don't have an income so paying for parking was not an option for me, which left me with one choice: parking on-street far away from the facility and then having to walk a good distance for my treatment. I had to use a cane at the time. I'd arrive exhausted & had difficulty returning to my car I was so exhausted. 5) Staff should be friendly but not annoyingly bubbly and chatty, which some were. I'm there for professional medical treatment, not for chitchat and small talk. That's not being friendly, that's obnoxious. Select Physical Therapy is a a glorified 24-hr fitness and the therapists were like trainers (but not even personal): They billed $419 for the initial evaluation at the first appointment; $221 billed per session thereafter! Ouch! Too much for what it is. The treatment I received there made my legs and knees less stable, weaker and put me through more, unnecessary pain. The therapists did not listen when I said that I work physically very hard. They seemed to think my knees and legs were failing from lack of use when I'd even told them I'm walking and on my feet all day, going up and down stairs, lifting heavy loads, etc. The therapy would wear my legs so much that I was unable to work on those days. I have cervical stenosis with myelopathy possibly developing and possible degenerative conditions are still being investigated. I think that Select Physical Therapy did not act responsibly, putting me through exercises that were much too rigorous given my condition, the fact I was not yet fully diagnosed and especially the fact that I do use my legs, and I use them a lot, so the staff should have been more concerned as to why my legs are failing and whether or not they could be strengthened or not, given I exercise them so much already. read more

I've been coming here for my Achilles recovery and couldn't be happier. I've been to other physical therapy offices where they put electromagnetic pulses on your area of injury and walk away or simply tell you the exercises you need to do. I've been here 7 times in the past month and each time they actually have you do the exercises and make sure you do it correctly. I also get deep tissue treatment through massage treatment to help loosen muscles. Finish that off with their cold compression machine to calm down any swelling before you head off. The atmosphere is also really chill with patients and PT chatting away during their sessions. Highly recommend. The only downside is parking. They do not validate in the garage and street parking is limited to 1 hr on the south side and i think 2 hours on the west boundary a block away. read more

I have had a hard year with knee surgery and then lower lumbar surgery. Luckily my insurance led me to Select in Pasadena. I cant imagine a better Physical Therapy team anywhere. Aaron is my lead PT. This dude is at the top of his craft. Therapy starts with your PT and then moves to exercises with the assistants who work as a team. All excellent. I have worked with Christina, Austin, Chris and Chelsea. Each one pushing me to get healthier and stronger. Brandy runs the office. She has helped me a lot with scheduling and insurance stuff. Always friendly and understanding. I watch what is going on with other patients. Everyone is treated with respect, compassion and empathy. But beware . . . the hard work follows. When you show up there you are broken. Recovery takes longer than what you have been told. Work hard and listen to the pros in their special fields. Excellent facility, organized, knowledgeable and super nice therapists. I came here for hand therapy to treat my RSI (repetitive stress injury) which lasted a month and a half. The facility is consistently clean and organized, and always well-equipped (they even have some fancy equipment like the cold compression machine). The people from front desk to manager/aid are all friendly, professional, and helpful. My hand therapist (Lindy Moya) is excellent and knowledgeable and compassionate. Even though I did not work with the physical therapists directly, they're all very knowledgeable and answered my general questions even though I'm not their patient. This place ranks top amongst the physical therapies I've received, and I've been to quite a few including USC outpatient physical therapy. I highly recommend this place if you need physical therapy or hand therapy. read more

I came to Select Physical therapy after being diagnosed with patella tendonitis and worked with Jennifer Jing. Jennifer is a knowledgeable, personable, and professional physical therapist. We worked together for close to four months. It's a journey. It's helpful that Jennifer is knowledgeable, but the fact that she is personable and encouraging makes the journey a lot easier to traverse psychologically. The overall practice is very well run, from Brandi in the front office to all the PTs and the PT assistants. The only minor negative comment I have is that while I was there, the other front office person, who was a new hire, seems to be a bit nonchalant and asked me to handle things that the office should have handled for me (e.g. working with the insurance company). But that is a minor point and my main point is that this is an excellent place to do physical therapy. read more

Carla Crosby, CHT is the best!! I have had three previous trigger finger surgeries requiring physical therapy. Carla is by far the best hand physical therapist that I had the good fortune to have care for me. She is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE, thoroughly knows hand therapy issues, caring, easy to understand and talk to and is light hearted. Occupational Therapist Suzanne Windus guided me through the rehabilitation process so that I have no pain in my left hand and have a full range of motion and strength again. Suzanne was very thorough in knowledge and treatment. She listened and observed carefully to make sure that the treatment was helping me to make progress. She answered questions as they came up.
