"Well, try not to gain anymore weight." THAT is what the doctor told on me on my first visit. This after the shocked look when she wondered why my GP didn't have me on Ozempic. No, I am not kidding. The place is crammed with equipment and people practically trip over each other to get to their sessions. I watched a massage happen behind a drawn curtain and the poor girl had inches of space to work. Oh, and you'd better love dogs. (which I do) but they rule the space and will take over your session wanting pets and love. Honestly, I did not mind that part but if you are not a dog person, you won't have a choice. Unprofessional as hell. However... After a few sessions to warm up around the holidays, I returned and was told to get on the stationary bike. I said no. I have arthritis in my ankle, knee and a muscle on the side of my leg that keeps me up at night. I was there to strengthen my legs, if possible. But, I was forced onto the thing anyway and encouraged to do five minutes. The pain was A LOT and my knee clicked with every rotation. I was told "But see, you can do it!" Translation: "You're not in pain, you're just fat. If you do the bike, you will lose weight." I was reinjured and didn't sleep for the following week as the pain in my legs kept me up all hours. I have not returned. Clearly, I am too fat for this practice. read more

I recently returned to Gomez Physical Therapy in Pasadena for treatment related to foot pain in my right foot--discomfort that's been interfering with my ability to train for marathons. This isn't my first time here. A while back, I came in for hip discomfort and IT band pain, and knew exactly who to turn to when this new issue came up. As a Marine Corps veteran, most of my medical care is handled through the VA, but in this case, the podiatrist I saw could only offer custom orthotic inserts. They helped a little, but I knew I needed something more--specifically, a plan to strengthen my foot rather than just mask the symptoms with medication. Fortunately, the VA's Community Care program allows veterans to receive care outside the VA, and Dr. Gomez has been a provider in that program for years--which I'm extremely grateful for. Her clinic is nearby and convenient, and there's something genuinely comforting about the fact that it's a family-run business. Dr. Gomez's husband runs the front office, and her daughter-in-law is one of the assistant PTs. Over the years, I've seen multiple PTAs come through and be mentored by Dr. Gomez--it's clear she cares deeply about her patients and the people she brings onto her team. What I especially appreciate is that Dr. Gomez takes time to explain everything--what's going on, why we're doing a certain stretch or exercise, and what the expected outcome is. Her philosophy is simple and reassuring: avoid surgery if possible, restore function, and help patients get back to doing what they love. The energy in the office is great--everyone's there working on their healing journey. Patients are rotated through treatment stations smoothly, and there's a real sense of community. Also, it's hard not to smile when Fred, the family's chocolate lab, makes his rounds for a visit. Dr. Gomez and her main PT assistant Hailey are amazing! They have a broad knowledge base and provide individualized and personalized care. The entire staff is kind and welcoming. They have both shockwave and red light therapies here, which are very useful for many injuries and surgery recovery. They customized a pt plan to get me back to my best. Gomez Physical Therapy has provided tremendous care, attentiveness, kindness, and patience as I continue my years-long recovery from a near-fatal car crash. The incident shattered my shoulder and damaged my cervical spine -- leaving me partially paralyzed/disabled and a body that functions with only some consistency. I've been going to Gomez Physical Therapy for the past 3 to 4 months for therapy for my left shoulder, hips and knees. Since I have been going there, I have seen much improvement. Dr. Gomez is approachable and listens to your concerns. The quality of care provided by the staff, Haley, Nicole and Chadney are one of the best I have received. I have had chronic back pain my whole life. I started seeing Dr. Julie Gomez because the pain was just too much to bare and I felt I needed organic methods to begin healing. At our first consultation/appointment Dr. Gomez sat down and thoroughly went over my symptoms and which treatments she believed would help me inside and outside of physical therapy. We discussed diet, meditation, yoga, basically any means necessary to begin feeling better. So I started seeing Dr. Gomez once a week and with her guidance (along with her partner in crime, Mario) I started to feel a lot better. Each session we focused on something new and I felt there was a progression to my treatment. I could tell she really tailored my therapy and even offered outside educational documents, so I could read more about back pain. My Orthopedic doctor agreed with me when I expressed concern on the lack of work from Gomez PT. He read the report from them and said " this is terrible". My physical therapy needs were not met. I went to every appointment , I ask questions. On my last day Gomez called me and said. Don't come because know one will be here. I do not recommend Gomez PT. You will get her full attention during your sessions with her and recover quickly under her skilled guidance. Dr Gomez is by far the best therapist I've ever had in my life. After fracturing the tibial plateau on my knee with a slight torn meniscus, she brought me back with diligence to where I needed to be in 4 months time frame. I recently had ACL repair surgery and immediately began my physical therapy at Gomez Physical Therapy. After only 2 weeks after surgery, I had almost complete rotation in my knee with no pain -- my surgical doctor was amazed. Dr. Gomez pushes you to complete your recovery but understands the limitations after a major surgery. She helped me regain my strength and confidence in my knee and is responsible for the state I am in today (I can now run and jump after only 5 months after surgery). She knew how to target various muscles in my knee to help me regain complete strength. She really worked wonders for me and I would recommend anyone to go and see her for any chronic muscular pain. read more

messed up my leg skiing at Mt. Baldy (tore ACL, damaged minisci) and had knee surgery to get a new ACL, shave the menisci and scrape out arthritis on the knee cap. I had a scary amount of muscle loss within days of my surgery and by the time my brace came off 6 weeks later my leg was super weak and wimpy. I started physcial therapy while still at home with the brace off for limited time and then once the brace was off I went to my surgeons' PT office. I stopped going to the surgeons' PT office because they had very limited hours. I left there and went to a sports oriented PT place that had more extensive hours; the trade off for the better hours ended up being that I was working with pretty young folks that were still in school in some cases. I ended up experiencing a lot of turn over in their staff and literally got passed around to at least a half dozen people. More than once I was given a very brief workout in order for them to finish their shifts early and was not always comfortable doing the exercise routines I was assigned. I was really unhappy and thought about quitting my PT. I made a bunch of calls to different PT offices in the area and was not finding any new place to switch to. Luckily I called Gomez PT. In less than a minute I was having a very meaning conversation with Julie about what exercises I was doing, how long I had been doing and what my experiences were and had some renewed hope. We scheduled an appointment and I came in for a baseline. At that point I started out with Julie, Lana and Mario. They were flexible with my schedule and I got very late afternoon and occasional Saturday morning hours. Early on I was still impatient and was not seeing the level of improvement I hoped for and that was when Julie got my surgery report for me; it was quite eye opening and revealed that I had several issues with my knee (See sentence 1) and that I really needed to give myself time to recuperate. I was having these same issues at the sports oriented place but they did not have the insight to get my surgery report. The truth is that I probably would have never finished PT if had not been for the direct and personal relationship that I formed with these three people. It took a lot more time and effort than I realized when I went in for the ACL surgery. I had a very personal, consistent, supervised, customized and positive experience. I moved through a lot of different exercises ending with running again. In the end the leg that had the new ACL in it was stronger than my good leg. I have since returned to normal activity including golf, skiing, tennis and even went bowling again recently. I continue to recommend Gomez PT to people I meet who need PT and would use them again without hesitation if I ever hurt myself again.
