This is not a bad place to stop in for food or drinks if you're in the area to ski/snowboard and want to get away from the crowds. I came here with friends mainly to stop in to get lunch here and a few drinks. I ordered Wings with their HellFire sauce as it was suppose to be really spicy. I guess my spice tolerance was too high as it didn't overpower me, which is also a good thing. We also split Voodoo Balls which were surprisingly really good! This would be one appetizer I definitely recommend. In terms of beer, they do not make their own beers although they do have a brewing room. They don't have the appropriate license to sell their beer that they brew, although apparently they are allowed to brew and seems like the staff are the only ones that can drink it. Stopped here over Columbus Day weekend for an evening snack and some libation. Two margaritas sounded great till they arrived. Very bland. Not sure there was any tequila in them. My friend ordered an additional shot to add to his margaritas & I knew that bad was enough for me. I opted for a Merlot. Great choice on my part! The bartender could care less that we were there and it took around ten minutes before she acknowledged us by asking if we'd like a drink... another ten minutes or so before our drinks arrived with four people sitting at the bar, drinks full and dinner plates in front of them... We ordered the wings and coconut fried shrimp. Bothe excellent choices. To make matters worse our bartender then gave us the wrong check! Hence the three stars. read more

Came here one day in the summer to visit friends who were at Taste of Country. We sat outside on the deck with the lovely view of Hunter Mountain. Once seated we waited an extremely long amount of time til the waitress got there so we all were ready to order some beets and food. If you want to try a lot of their beers, better order them all at once if you are sitting outside because apparently they tend to forget about their outdoor guests. The beers (that we were actually able to try) were decent but wish I could have tried more. The deck was set up nice and had some outdoor games which was cool. The food was subpar but we only tried a few appetizers, which also came out extremely slow. Would love to try this place again, maybe another time of year we will have better luck. read more

Ended our Sunday evening at Hunter Mountain Brewery. Enjoyed the food I tried, but found the house beer disappointing and the service was a disaster. Quality: Hunter Mountain Brewery is not really a brewery, so don't let the name deceive you. It is a restaurant that has an extensive New York craft beer list, and one or two homemade beers on the menu. And I would advise you avoid their beers as the one I tried, Hazy Mountain Brew, would not cut it at most breweries. The food however was solid. We ordered the Pretzel App, warm and fluffy pretzels with a nice tangy cheese sauce, along with the Loaded Fries, fries covered in melted cheddar, bacon, and jalapeños. And while we stuck with appetizers, the main menu looked solid for hearty dishes as well. Quantity: Two of their own beers on tap, but one was kicked. The food was large and easy to share. Value: $7 for the Draft Beer I ordered, but beer prices were not listed out on the menu. $9 for Pretzel App. $9 for Loaded Fries. Ambiance: Hunter Mountain Brewery is located in the small town of Hunter in Upstate New York. The space has a ski lodge vibe inside and out. And from the outdoor deck, you can see the slopes cut into the mountain even in the fall because of the missing trees. Inside they had a large bar with several televisions, a spacious dining area, and a small lounge area near a fireplace. Not hard to imagine it bustling during the winter season. Crowd: A small crowd on Sunday evening. Most folks chose the outdoor patio where they and their dogs could relax. Service: Extremely understaffed and it was clear that servers not assigned to your table had no interest in helping you. I love local places and always want to give them rave reviews, but I also have to be fair to someone who might be looking to patronize them, and I hope the owners of this place will train their crew or bring in some experts to help. The ambience is rustic and beautiful, the view of the mountain is stellar, and the chips are truly unique. They are the thinnest I have ever had and, while crispy, somehow still melt in your mouth. That said, the name of this establishment is a misnomer. They do not have a brewing license, so you can only order bottled beer or beer on tap, but not theirs. To make matters worse, the food is truly disappointing. The meat on the wings was reportedly good, but the sauce tasted like raspberry jam. Our server was sweet and attentive, but when asked about the wings as we ordered, she simply stated she was unable to describe the wings, so we took a chance. The meat on the Grand Concourse was generous and, I am told, good, but there was too much barbecue sauce. I ordered the Gun Hill, and the marinated eggplant, while perfect in texture, was so *thoroughly* saturated with red wine vinegar, it literally burned my tongue after eating only half, so, as hungry as I was, I was unable to finish it, and for once in my life I drank my entire glass of water. The sourdough bread had become soggy from the vinegar and the "roasted tomato" in the menu description was really a single slice of pale tomato on each half. I know it's not tomato season, but you can buy roasted tomatoes in a can and grill them a little for flavor. The provolone was one very thin slice. As for appetizers, the naan bread itself was delicious and light, but had very little goat cheese, only five small pieces of roasted tomato, and a LOT of balsamic vinegar. If you stop at one piece and have nothing else containing vinegar, it passes marginally. Let the flavors shine, folks, please don't drench them in vinegar! A little goes a long way. Even those delightful chips tasted slightly of malt vinegar, but because as a standalone they were balanced, they still get a thumbs up. The fry basket came with mostly overdone fries, and a couple at a table near us sent theirs back. And, at the end when you go to pull out of the parking lot, be VERY careful because the parking lot is just a narrow shoulder off of Route 23 (a major east-west artery in these parts) on a hill, and it's hard to see oncoming traffic around the parked cars. I'm sure this place can do better if they read their reviews and use the feedback constructively. TLDR: Waitress with a horrible attitude and dry/burnt/tastless food. This place was promising as it was in an absolutely gorgeous setting and we got to sit outside. Unfortunately from the start, the service was very poor. We tried to be understanding and patient as there was a large table but upon asking for our bill to be split (4 people) we were met with attitude and it went downhill from here. Our waitress seemed annoyed any time she had to work with us, annoyed when taking our order, etc. I'm assuming she was the manager as we also noticed her yelling at staff members (bussers and waitresses) and being very rude when giving instructions/orders. Once we were done eating she seemed to disappear so we waited forever for a check (that we didn't wind up getting split due to her attitude). Our group is not one to cause problems so we continued to be pleasant even though we were continued to be met with poor attitude. As for the food, I had the summit burger which I found tasteless and dry. Our table ordered medium, medium well, and well, and all burgers were dry and burnt. I was in town visiting a friend in the neighboring town Jewett. My friend recommended this place because it was a brewery and it had food everyone would like. When you first walk in theres a bar and dinning room. We sat in the dinning room over looking the mountains, they have outdoor seating as well but the weather was raining and then sunshine so we chose to sit inside. Our waitress came over took our drink orders without writing anything down, she was excellent throughout our whole dining experience. She was attentive and checked on us on a regular basis making sure our food came out good and our drinks were never empty. For my appetizer I ordered the Hell Gate Wings. The wings wasn't spicy enough for me, they were more of a medium going toward hot. I'm also a spicy fanatic I can eat really spicy stuff but the average person might think its the spices thing in the world, I wouldn't advise to order the Hell gate if you can't handle the spice. A person in our group tried it and found it to be really spicy! The wings tasted alright it wasn't crispy at all but decent wings. For my main course I ordered the burger medium with bacon and american cheese. The burger was cooked perfectly and tasted pretty good but I felt the bun was a tad over toasted. The french fries were nice and crispy. I tried their home made chips, I found the chips tasted pretty good. Satisfactory food for the area. Let's be honest here, Hunter, NY is by no means a culinary destination - we came here because we rented a house near the area to go skiing at Windham for a few days. Bearing that in mind, there are still improvements the restaurant can make. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie and it was passable, but the brussels sprouts that came with it were mushy and bland (basically boiled). Would've been better if they were even just roasted in the oven. I also tried one of their homemade beers (I believe it was the pale ale) on tap and it was pretty average as well. At the end of the day the prices were reasonable and the food did what it intended - to fill the stomachs of hungry skiers. I also saw that they had some Indian food offerings on their menu which was quite intriguing considering everything else was typical American comfort/pub food. Went back on Sunday only to have the same poor service, with less of a crowd. When a runner brings out your meals for you, follow up. Bring side plates. For a place that calls itself a brewery, they only had one of their own brews available; an imperial stout which was so focused on being high in alcohol percentage that they forgot beer was supposed to have flavor. It was barely drinkable. We ordered the C.B. Mac & Cheese (Chicken, Bacon, and Cheddar), as this is their most popular item on the menu. What had the potential to be a great Mac n Cheese dish, turned out to be one of the most flavorless pasta dishes I have ever experienced. Did they even use cheese besides the little bit of cheddar sprinkled on top? Do they even have salt and pepper in their kitchen? The service was absolutely atrocious as well. We waited 20 minutes before someone even came by to ask for our drink orders, and when the first flight of beer arrived, the server spilled it all over our table. Instead of refilling our drinks, he says he was going to get some napkins to clean it up. We never received them. Had to use my own napkin to clean the spill from the server. One of the beers was served to us WARM. This place looks like an amazing spot for some aprés after a long day on the slopes, but you would be better off spending your money literally anywhere else than setting foot into this joke of an establishment. Whoever is running this place knows how to decorate a restaurant to be aesthetically pleasing, but clearly has no clue how to properly manage one. read more

After a morning of snow tubing my group of thirteen were looking for good beer and lunch. We called a few min before arriving, were greeted with acknowledgement and were seated almost immediately. The beer selection was great! We very much enjoyed three different beers and a mule. Our table ordered several bowls of Mac and Cheese, a variety of burgers and a bbq brisket sandwich. Sweet potato, regular french fries and onion rings were added to meals. They were all delicious. We were impressed with all the food and the portion sizes. We had a ton of food left over! We are surprised that they only have a three star rating. On top of the food the ambiance is great with a fantastic view of the mountain and a great deck outside for the warmer season. read more

My fiancé and I recently bought a home here at Hunter Mountain and have come here twice in the past two weekends. The first time I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, and he ordered the brisket burger. The lobster Mac and cheese was suspect. The lobster tasted a little fishy and stupid me was too hungry to care. I don't think the lobster was "bad" but I think the lobster was frozen and reheated. The brisket burger was delicious as per the fiancé and we hope that they add just plain brisket to the menu soon. This time, I tried the pasta dish that has sun dried tomatoes, olives and wilted kale however I asked for shrimp with this dish (because no protein is included). I thought it was quite tastey and light, but it wasn't something that would keep me coming back for more. My man ordered the half rack of ribs- the string beans and mashed potatoes were good, and the ribs were good but nothing more than what you would find in the prepackaged ribs you'd get in the grocery store (his words not mine). An amazing place to spend a good lunch with a view experience. This place sits by a gorgeous view especially in the fall, which is when we went. We were a large group so called the restaurant ahead. Even though they don't take reservations, they promised to make a good spot once we arrive. They were very welcoming and quickly accommodated our large group. I recommend the Indian food here, we didn't expect it to be actually good but it was absolutely lip-smacking! The penne all's vodka was another hit, but the pasta with white wine reduction was sadly a huge miss. The eggplant sandwich, clam chowder and coconut shrimp were very good, Marsala chicken was okay.
