I have music friends in Pt. Townsend, I attended Fiddle Camp in 2019, saw Ann's Waterhaus model on Sims Way, and contacted her, working w Greenpod since 2020. Yes, delays: Covid, costs have risen, Kitsap Countys new database, staff shortages and bldg permit app process, beyond our control. Ann's enthusiasm kept me going! She and team lead much-needed change in construction and eco-friendly housing. Her team have specialized skills (better than pretend-experts-on everything I've encountered:) and seasoned subcontractors that they know , working on my project. Craft! I'm living out of area while my small house is completed. I get regular updates w/ memos, photos-even fun videos! on progress made, and Zoom, too. No cookie-cutter or shortcut work! The small house we worked on (yes my ideas were welcome:) blend in with my site location and topography, making good use of light and shade, and natural-looking to the setting. I'm looking forward to the finished project, and it has been a pleasure working, and getting to know, these dedicated people.

We were still about a year out from building our "tiny" house so we decided to wait a bit before we talked again. Yesterday, we met with Ann, the owner of the company. First of all, we had a meeting scheduled for a specific time from earlier in the week. I get an email from Ann yesterday morning saying that since we never confirmed out meeting time, she had to go to another site and wouldn't be able to meet until later. I was under the impression that, when the last email I got from her said "...text me your ETA when you get close..."(we were coming from Seattle), that it meant we had a meeting scheduled. When we finally met her, it was inside of a cold work shop (no dogs allowed in the main office; we were told before hand they were not allowed in the pod that is onsite but we were never told they weren't allowed in the office. Interestingly enough, she was concerned about them being around all of the glass inside the office when we first arrived so that makes me think she purposely had us meet in the work shop). From the start, she was condescending and acted like we had no idea what we wanted and that we couldn't afford it. She asked about what we do for a living and kept telling us about ways we could make money using our land, even suggesting that we have someone go in on it with us and then we can buy them out later. She also kept referring to our future home as our starter home, even though we plan on being there forever. She was also rude; one of her employees walked in during our meeting and she started talking to him about an issue from another project (the one that caused her to be four hours late for our meeting) and referred to someone who was giving her problems as a "dick" multiple times...in the middle of our meeting. It may have been because she "didn't get much sleep" and was "probably hangry (angry from hunger)". She could also have been upset because we asked her earlier in the week 1) why her company wasn't on the BBB website (just curious), and 2) for three references (we have seen too many shows where people got screwed by construction companies). Ann's immediate response to my inquiry for references was to tout her experience. When I again asked for three references, she provided me with two. I'm sorry but if you have so much experience and are so busy with work yet you can't provide me with at least three references, then there is something wrong. Before we left the meeting, she made sure to mention that she "is only doing so much work for free" and that she charges $85/hour for her services. I am sorry but we were trying to decide if we wanted to hire her; you don'y pay people for that. She also basically told us she couldn't do anything for us until we had site plans, which she neglected to tell us before we got there. All in all, I am sure they do great work and Kevin (I believe he is a builder) was great but we couldn't stand the thought of working with Ann. Maybe she should have eaten a Snickers.

I pictured spending thousands of dollars for an end result I wouldn't be happy with. Wow was I wrong! Catherine started the process by meeting with us a few times at the construction site. We then discussed what kind of feel we wanted for the house, and being total amateurs, we had a hard time describing what we wanted. We quickly discovered one of her gifts is helping you come up with a plan that is yours, but will flow beautifully, from outside, to inside, then all together. As my wife and I are both fairly conservative on our tastes, we loved the fact that Catherine pushed us to expand our horizons in our choices more than we would have without her. The end result is a home we love more than we ever thought we could! She is also very cost conscious on spending someone else's money, which was a pleasant surprise. I'm guessing her recommendations on where to shop for some items (lights, for example) saved us enough to almost pay for our work with her. Bottom line, every time we drive up to our new home, we know we made a great choice in hiring Catherine!

We'd never worked with an interior designer and weren't sure where to start. I went to Yelp and found Catherine there and was impressed with the reviews - and I liked the feel of her website too. We called Catherine and said, "we're buying a new house, we want to have the whole house painted and re-carpeted and we want the wood floors refinished and we need some new furniture too. Oh, and we need it done in 2 months and we won't be here at all during the process. Can you help?" She never hesitated. She said, "Sure, I'll be right over, let's get started." Amazing, right?! AND she managed the entire project, involved us in the decision making process while not overwhelming us, worked with the contractors, kept us updated, AND made sure that everything was done when we got back to Sequim two months later! Truly, she's a miracle worker. Catherine has also helped us with furnishing the house, figuring out where to put furniture, hanging pictures, and dealing with all the little details that make a house a showplace. She's even gone shopping with us to pick out furniture and she's worked with vendors, scheduled appointments, gotten quotes, and done a million things that saved us time. Perhaps most importantly, she's gently steered us away from things that really wouldn't look right. Through it all, Catherine has been kind, gracious, patient, trustworthy, and reliable. She does what she says she will do - and more. She's also really fun to work with and she's such a nice person. We've also found all of her billing to be very fair and reasonable. We've referred Catherine to friends without hesitation. Trust me on this, if you work with her, you'll be glad you did!

They provided guidance, creativity, and follow-up every step of the way. Their computer-generated kitchen plans and visual images were very helpful in assuring us that the design they described is what we wanted and in the price range we were looking for. Adrian was our assigned on-site contractor. He was phenomenal to work with. His knowledge, skill, reliability, and "easy-to-work-with" personality made the process from demo to project signoff a smooth and stress-free experience. Adrian and Vered never let any unforeseen or unexpected situation alter or delay project progress. They worked together to offer solutions and resolution in a timely manner. Adrian and one or two other helpers did most of the work themselves, so we were never waiting on subcontractors. The project started on time and finished on schedule. We could not have been more pleased with the results. We are very happy to have selected Lux Design Builds and highly recommend them for your upcoming remodel.
