Unfortunately, due to massive fires in California and Oregon, the air in Western Washington became unhealthy and I made the difficult decision to cancel our trip. I first attempted to reschedule the trip to mid-October, hoping that by pushing our trip back, we'd be out of fire season and able to enjoy the outdoors. This was met by a phone call from Simone at Sequim Valley Properties, who accused me of overreacting, and berated me for the last minute cancellation and for requesting "all kinds of accommodations" (I had literally only asked if I could bring our family dog). She told me she would let me reschedule to mid-October, but only if I could guarantee that there would be no changes to the reservation. Since that's not a guarantee I could make (I am unfortunately not capable of predicting the future), and she was making me feel VERY uncomfortable to the point where I dreaded having to interact with her for a future vacation, I opted instead to cancel my reservation altogether. My girls and I will unfortunately never get to enjoy the lovely cabin in Port Angeles; at least not while Sequim Valley Properties is managing it. Simone's behavior was completely unacceptable. I'm not going to tolerate abuse from a property manager because of extenuating circumstances, and am certainly not going to give them any future business.

We also thought it was thoughtful the heat had been turned up before we arrived. Have stayed in a few of this company's vacay rentals, and they are all unique and comfortable. The website is really easy to use and book through - lots of reviews and photos, to find the house that's just right. I saw another reviewer had trouble getting forgotten items returned. I had the opposite experience - got my items back in a reasonable time period. I'm sure that is the biggest pain for these property managers! I just love coming to Sequim and trying out different spots to take in the mountains and the ocean views. Simone has like 30 properties to choose from!

They have several units to choose from, but we chose the "Perch", which was the largest. It didn't disappoint! We didn't even use half the space! Currently, check-in is anytime after 2:00pm. We checked ourselves in and upon entering, found a spacious "home"! Divided by a set of stairs, there is a murphy bed (sleeps 2), bath & shower, dining area and full kitchen to the left. On the dining table was a lovely note addressed to us by the hosts Craig & Michelle, accompanied by a bottle of wine and a bowl of granola bars. Then, in the refrigerator, there was a nicely adjourned box nestled with yogurts, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, a small bottle of Prosecco (for mimosas) and chocolate! We turned around and on the kitchen counter was a plate of local pastries! In the room on the other side of the stairs is another bedroom (sleeping 2-3), king bed, full bath and sitting area with coffee maker and coffee pods. Downstairs by the front door is a living room with TV, comfy couch & chair, wet bar, small fridge and washer/dryer! As everyone knows, with a home or business, there will always be times of repair and/or construction. Currently, the upper deck is being repaired, so we weren't able to take advantage of that. Instead, we took a long walk along the water, watched the eagles soar overhead, waved at people passing by and enjoyed the fresh sea air! Eating at local restaurants is always a plus and enjoying wine in the evenings watching the sun lower gently on the horizon out of sight made this trip, along with our fabulous hosts, Craig & Michelle, all worthwhile. It was a delicious meal prepared with seasonal and organic ingredients, much of which Mark actually grew himself! Stuffed tomatoes, shrimp with herbed cream cheese on baguettes, blue cheese dip with crackers - everything was scrumptious and beautifully presented. And the pickled garlic scapes were so incredible, I believe I embarrassed myself. Mark's task was complicated by serving outdoors, in a garden and a somewhat limited budget. Nelson's Duckpond sits in a residential area along a picturesque road. The parking was on their vast lawn and there were a few spots in the shade, which was a welcome relief during the very hot July summer. You were free to wander around the farm, partake in the U Pick Lavender option, nibble a few lavender poundcake samples at the tent, quench your thirst with some drinks, patronize the store with a ton of lavender stuff (I bought lip balm, poundcake mix, sugar, BBQ rub spices, chocolates,soap and room spray). The best part, however, according to the kid, was the duckpond in the back. The shop owner was super friendly when my son inquired as to why this place was called the "Duckpond" as he soon found out why - a turtle (forgot the name) and some ducks all share the vast huge back yard as one big happy fauna family. My son was lucky enough to be able to feed the ducks with some feed that was available for the Lavender Fest visitors. Everyone was super friendly and the grounds were very pretty. It wasn't only the lavender fields, but everything around it! I'd love to patronize their cottages next time I'm in town!
