It's valentines and my partner and I were searching for a romantic getaway apart from the phoney overpriced dinner reservations and other typical "spend money for love" experiences that Patagonia wearing Seattle-ites expect on this holiday. However, we did want to do something special. For us that meant a trip to the peninsula, complete with day hikes and a few nights of camping (which is our typical three day weekend go-to). In this case we wanted to find a motel with a kitchenette to have a romantic dinner/night in. After failed attempts of booking the goatel (on 101 and hwy 20) we landed in PA at sportsmen. The brother and sister who checked us in were lovely. The room was a perfect size for two people, with a glorious little kitchen and full size fridge. It's on the east side of the city with a long walk downtown, but we weren't interested in spending a night in town anyways. The price was cheap (off season) and the room was clean with a nice firm mattress and even a TV if you're into that! We will definitely remember this spot and revisit it in the future!

Our room was the smallest I believe at $175 a night, kinda pricey but you are facing the awesome bay views and can walk the beach with the stair access right across the street. They allowed dogs $35 per night extra so that was another perk. It was all self contained with kitchen but the fridge was an inconvenient mini fridge yet a full size stove/oven & microwave. The queen bed is also in the small room. Bathroom was tight with no shelves to unpack makeup/personals, no tub just shower. It did have a carport with bench and table/chairs for warmer weather. It did have a huge nice tv although tricky to use. There was a none big lawn area behind the cottages that offered hot tub, toys, bbqs, fire pits and kayaks etc to rent w/ life jackets. We were basically alone for the 4 nights, only saw one staff member on first day. Internet worked fine. They include a kierig w/ k-cups which was nice. I was wishing I'd brought paper plates as they just had 2 heavy ceramic plates but had most basic necessities for cooking and eating, even spices, paper towels, dish and hand soap plus toothbrushes. Overall it was pleasant stay, just tight quarters, a bit pricey and noisy bed.

Although there are many newer, more luxurious, and more amenity-rich properties in Sequim and Dungeness, the simple charm of this property and the kindness of the hosts (John and Karin) keep me coming back. Situated like sets of side-by-side duplexes, the guest rooms are cozy and super clean. There are televisions, free wi-fi, and full kitchens but no telephones. Each cottage has its own parking space and carport for your car and bicycles. There is a pasture behind the property where cows currently graze amid the backdrop of the Olympic mountains. The front of the property are panoramic views of incredible sunsets, the bay, the Dungeness Spit, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, British Columbia, the San Juan Islands, and on and on. There is a nice bbq on the property that's available for guests to share. At night, it's pitch black and dead silent. The beauty of this respite from urban assaults on the senses can take getting used to by folks who have forgotten how magical this type of stillness is. I love nighttime walks with flashlight looking for deer. Deer are everywhere, literally, day and night. John and Karin are excellent resources for places to go and things to do if you're new to the area. They're honest and discriminating and won't steer you to a place just because it's popularly touristy; if it's not good, they'll tell you so and give better recommendations. I love this place!

I've seen Super 8's charge more for less. It was clean and the property well maintained. The employee working the front office was friendly. I took away a star for 2 reasons. The pillows are awful. Very flimsy and unsupportive. They seem to know this because they put 6 of them on each bed. But I'm a side sleeper and 2 of them weren't enough, but 3 was too many. In the middle of the night I woke up with horribly knotted up neck and shoulders and had to tuck a couple of folded towels under my pillows just to get comfortable . If I had stayed there longer than just one night, I would've gone to Walmart and bought my own pillow. The second reason was that the remote control was not compatible with the television. The buttons on the cable box had to be pressed manually to get the TV to work. Not really a big deal, but the tv keeps the kiddos entertained so they aren't bouncing off the walls and disturbing other guests, so a minor inconvenience. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. I'll just remember to bring pillows from home.

The room was super clean, comfortable, convenient and cozy. Water pressure was great, bed was very comfortable, and the location CANNOT be beat. Fabulous facility if you travel with dogs, because there are designated dog rooms and plenty of places to walk your dog safely right outside the room. Very quiet, which is not something I usually experience at other hotels. Absolutely a 10/10 experience for me and my dogs!!!!

Neither did my sons next door. Likes: nice big fridge and micro! 2 Cafs and real cream at the coffee maker. Wood floors. Don't get me wrong I'm not some kind of snob. This place was really cheap. But we had stayed the night before at an Econolodge in Jackpot Nevada that was perfect for that same price. The rude clerk started the whole thing off, and the condition of this place reflected the attitude. Some ppl should not be in hospitality! Oh one last thing-a real key. Hadn't seen one in 20 years. The long one-lane drive can be tricky if there is oncoming traffic (luckily we didn't encounter any). We recommend only travel during daylight. Pack essentials such as drinking water. The rooms are clean. The layout is a bit awkward. Not enough lighting to do much after dark. This can be a problem when the days are shorter. Part of the second bedroom has very low ceiling (under 5 feet), and you bump your head walking around the bed. Don't know why the bed is not placed on the opposite wall which would solve the problem.

Has about everything a regular hotel room does. Had microwave and fridge. The baseboard heater does the job. TV with DirecTV (I didn't try). There is coffee in the office, no tea or breakfast. Wifi. A little bonus is that it does kind of have neat views down into Port Angeles with the welcome sign right there, or back south toward some nearby mountains of the Olympics. Definitely recommended for the price and upkeep. Update: Stayed here a second time a year later (2 nights), and had the same good experience.
