We had a great stay. The cabin had everything one could possibly need with cute little helpful notes throughout. Jennifer was a wonderful host! I would love to come back and stay for more time this was far too short for such a lovey experience!

We stayed at the Westsound House, sometimes referred to as the main house. It's only steps to the kayaks and the views are great from the covered deck, the living room, or the dining room. Turtleback Mountain Preserve, with its miles of hiking trails, is a mere few hundred yards from the house. We could not have been more pleased with the comfort of the house or with Jennifer's helpfulness or the accuracy of her recommendations, mostly for restaurants. This is an ideal spot for people who are active or not so active. One of our party ran every day on the hiking trails, rode a bike all over Orcas Island and once took the ferry to Lopez to ride there, and kayaked most days. The other was more housebound, but enjoyed the views and photographing the wildlife that could be seen from the house, from yard bunnies and deer to harbor seals, great blue herons, and other waterfowl. We can't wait to go back.

Great place, super cozy and very romantic. The primrose is by far the best cabin.

Jennifer, the owner, is the sweetest -- she went out of her way to make us at home and help arrange our stay.

The owner/manager Aimee was absolutely incredible in answering all my questions and assisting me plan my ferry trip. Not enough words to express how incredible she was. Texting me and responding to my questions all the time! The lodging itself was incredible. I cried with happiness at being right on the waterfront. The views are so beautiful. Having a private fireplace was just the best. And my first night I saw a shooting star!! Inside is super comfy with a king size bed. The television was super easy to navigate and on a pivot mount that turned towards the bed. Relaxation made easy. Plenty of throw blankets too, for star gazing in warmth. The bathroom had an ocean view too. Like wow. The shower was a tad small, but that's ok. This is a boutique style place. Right on the water. Not a hotel room with the sounds of doors closings and opening all around you. Excellent! So very private and very quiet. Exactly what I needed. No daily room service, which was actually nice. I had my space. If I needed anything all I needed to do was text Aimee. The room had a small refrigerator, a pour over coffee machine and a small microwave. All I needed. I just moved in for three days. Do it!! Book it!! Perfect driving distance to other parts of the island. I just cannot express enough how zen I was able to get on this vacation. Amazing!! SYOY!

I don't think our unit had a number on it and it was not labeled very well. There was a suana, but we did not use it. We did go sit out on the dock and it was beautiful. It was a little tricky to find the way to the dock but a text to the host helped us. It is a older building so it's a little unique. Very clean and really close to the ferry.

Every November a business meeting takes my husband and me to the Pacific Northwest and each visit…read morewe try to explore a new area. My daughter, who lives in Olympia, Washington, encouraged us to visit the San Juan Islands (and take her with us, of course) this year. I looked at several possibilities and settled on the San Juan Waterhouse because of its location to the ocean, its view of Canada, the fact it had Internet (I thought I might need to work) and its online reviews. We were lucky that our son was also able to join us, so we felt we needed three bedrooms. The San Juan Waterhouse sits on the edge of the Haro Straight. Its water facing wall is nothing but windows, so nearly every location in the house (including the master bathroom) provides an easy view of the water. The house has three bedrooms. The master bedroom is situated so you can see Canada from the comfortable king size bed. The second bedroom is in a room with three walls of windows. This bed is a Queen. The third bedroom has two twin beds and has high windows overlooking the sod roof of the house. The main room of the house has comfortable furniture surrounding a beautiful stonework fireplace (gas) and padded window seats with many pillows for reading and gazing at the water. The kitchen. Oh my goodness, the kitchen! It has everything you could possibly need for cooking (including basic spices) and an amazing Viking stove. I'd never used one of these before and now covet one for my own house. Because my family was not going to be together for Thanksgiving, we had a Thanksgiving celebration two weeks early and cooking the meal was a breeze (and fun) in that kitchen. The kitchen also holds the house's main heat source -- a gas powered iron stove. It really heats up the place -- even the master bedroom which is down a long windowed hallway. The house has two bathrooms. One, as previously mentioned, has views of the water through the windowed French doors. (they have curtains, so don't worry about privacy). This bathroom has a claw-foot bathtub and a separate shower. The second, smaller, bathroom holds a second claw-foot bathtub (no shower). While the house itself is amazing, the best part is the location. The architect took great pains to fit it in with the surroundings and Frank Lloyd Wright slopped ceilings guide your eyes to the beautiful landscape out the windows. The house is situated on a small cove. My son and daughter ventured out during a late-night very low tide and found some interesting sea life in the tide pools. We had one beautiful sunny day and one day with strong winds and violent waves. We saw many gulls, three eagles and two small deer. I am already plotting our return to this beautiful house -- hopefully in the summer next time.

Second, we didn't stay at the Inn, but boy do I wish I could afford it! The place is gorgeous! 57 acres of forest, a few trails including one up to a nice sunset bluff, and right on the beach (but an enviro-friendly 200 feet back, and nice preservation of the trees). This review is for the kayaking experience. We took a Saturday 9am paddle with Sandy (one-half of the owners). It was marvelous. They have the best-priced guided kayak tour on the island, and an excellent location to depart from. Sandy and Carl (her husband, the other owner), were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They answered all kinds of questions about Island life, environmental policy, wildlife, kayaking, etc. The gear was in great shape and they even had long boats (for the 2 tall men in the group) and gloves and boots for all. 8 of us went out in 4 boats and Sandy expertly assessed the group's interests and skills and kept us all herded and engaged. We saw bald eagles, seals, and plenty of intertidal stuff. After hearing that none of us had pressing engagements, Sandy stayed out with us an extra half hour, at least (hard to tell time on the water). Overall, a fabulous experience. Well worth the money (oh, and they take credit cards).

The ferry ride from Anacortes was great and easy, just make a reservation. I'll definitely bring my whole family back. It was the perfect place to make great memories. BUT...it's like Fort Knox due to the fact that the owners will not allow ANYONE but those that are on their approved inhabitants list (no more than 10 and I don't just mean overnight quests - which I would understand). No family members, friends or folks that you may meet on the Island during your stay are allowed to step ONE TOE on their property lest you will have the sheriff physically escort your guests AND yourself off their property at any time without refund (which is in their cheery follow-up email that you receive a few days before your arrival). And they make sure of this by having camera's at the door to monitor your comings and goings and also conveniently park their RV just over the fence to keep you on the up and up. You may say that maybe they've had bad experiences but heck...charge a hefty deposit if that's the case. We asked permission to simply have my brother and his family come for dinner one night and we were promptly denied. So again, it's a great place but if you don't want to be kicked out if you happen to want to have friends or family over for even one evening meal...forget it.
