We had a bad seal on one of our toilets upstairs that caused a pretty bad discoloration and bubbling of the vinyl, so we paid a friend to remove the vinyl, baseboards, and a portion of the subfloor. A very small bathroom, not much work at all. When we contacted our original floor installation for the house from a year ago, their reach was just recently cut off. So we called Darrow. Immediately that week, they arrived for inspection and finished quickly. I was happy! I asked when they could possibly come back to install since they were less than a mile from me, just downtown. Figuratively speaking, they just shrugged and said they'd call me with the estimate a week out. I called them later left a message when I didn't get a call back. An hour and a half after they opened, I called and asked if they were coming. They said they got the message and that we would need to reschedule. I offered to pay the whole installation ahead of schedule and they were especially nice about that (was a little over 350). On the rescheduled day, no call, so I called again. Same story. By this point, 3 roommates are sick and tired of a bathroom with no toilet and I'm getting tired of it not being there either. I decided to visit the store this time. This is the closest hope, the closest place to me in town. But I had to ask them what the hold up was. They pointed to a calendar and showed me all the dates around my project. It really did look busy, but at the end of the day, I really just wanted the calls to reach me when promised. They said it was odd that I wasn't getting calls and that they would contact me as soon as possible with details. Before I could park at home, they called saying tomorrow morning they would be there to do it. And they were! And they did a decent job. I really am happy with the results. Nice job, guys. At it's core, Darrow Carpets does good work from my experience. But it needs to focus on better customer service, communication, and call-backs for the ten plus years it's been in town. At all times, I approached them politely, and in return received uninterested or short answers unless I talked about getting a quote, or paying upfront. It was a small job, I get it. Tiny bathroom up the road. But come on. I felt like a mosquito to you guys. read more

I needed new flooring for my master and wanted to do business locally so I called Darrow's. From first encounter owner of the business was not clear on her schedule or anything for that matter. I had to interrupt her and ask her to please listen to my needs. Awful communication! But I have to say the installers were awesome and did a Beautiful professional job. That's why the 3 stars. We purchased kitchen back plash material from Darrow's in Stanwood and had their installers do the work. The product was first rate as well as the workmanship. But...at the close of the project the installer handed us a bottle of "grout-haze remover" and told us that we would need to remove the haze from the glass tiles in a few days. We are older and this work took us a long time! Plus, we had to put the electrical plates back on ourselves and we first had to remove grout that was plugging up the pathway for the screws. The removal of the haze and the re-installation of the plates should have been part of the job. If you intend to do business with Darrow's in Stanwood be sure to go over all of the work that will be included in the project! Insist that they finish the job by removing the grout haze from tile and re-installing the electrical plates. Two stars. read more

Make sure you get all your questions in before putting a deposit down with this clan. We ordered both hardwood and carpet throughout the house, we also had questions about tear out (as it was not included with install) which quickly became nuisance emails to them. With some resistance, I eventually became happy about having to tear out our existing floors ourselves, as we had rented our house the previous 5 years and discovered a lot of water damage that needed to be addressed before anything. My wife, who was the General Contractor throughout this remodel, finally had to pass the torch to me with Darrows, after not getting any further email responses regarding prep, clean out or scheduling, crickets. On her last and only phone call, after being ignored for days with her emails. She spoke to the owner, Liz, asking why no one is communicating with her. Liz literally said "We don't have time to answer your emails (which may have been 5 emails) she also said "Don't call me, I'll call you", after my wife tried to pin point a schedule date, again, crickets. Well we never heard from her, but three weeks later, when they called us out of the blue, asking if we had power, as huge storms had put most of Snohomish Co and Camano Is. in the dark. We luckily had power, and scheduled the next day for installation. I'll give Darrows 3 stars for the results of our beautiful flooring. The installers were great! They did a fantastic job. However, I'd never wish our experience with the office crew on my worst enemy. That part of the clan is on 100% customer burnout. read more

Nathan, Jeremy, other fellows were gentlemen and installed my floor baseboards even though they hadn't initially included that in their initial estimate, but I very much appreciate that. We recently bought a new home and loved everything about it . . . except the flooring. We shopped around a lot, including Home Depot, Lumber Liquidators and another local company and found Darrow's Carpet to be the best option. Their price was the best, their service was outstanding, and they were responsive to our scheduling needs. They quickly (1 day) responded to our bid request, and helped us every step of the way from hardwood and carpet selection thru installation. They even came to the house to help us select our hardwoods. It was a big job (~2000 sqft hardwood, ~500 sqft carpet) and all work was completed within a week after closing. We couldn't be happier with the end result from this family run business. Their son's do the installation and are very hard working and responsible, leaving the job site move-in ready. They even gave us tips on how to remove, package, and sell the existing laminate flooring which saved us some $$. Other companies did not offer such information and instead wanted to charge us $5K for the demo that took 2 of us 4 hrs to do ourselves. We really appreciate the integrity of this company and highly recommend them. read more

We like to shop locally and went to Darrows to purchase our flooring. They did an amazing job and we didn't hesitate when we decided to purchase new flooring for the rest of our house. The best! A really knowledgeable, professional, competent family business: and it feels like family, only you're not getting a call late at night saying Fifi is throwing up hairballs so the last part of the carpeting will have to wait a week. No, they came two days in a row even though it was snowing on the second day which around here I can tell you puts 99 percent of the people who even dare to go out on the road in the ditch.
