Hunter's Christmas Tree lot has been a staple for over 70 years over multiple generations in Wedgewood. The selection of trees and other decorations it top notch. The boys and girls working there are very helpful and good natured even in the worst of weather. The prices are competitive to other lots, but here they will go the extra mile and shake your tree, give it a fresh cut, wrap it up for the trip home and tie it onto your vehicle. They are also willing to put the stand in the tree and if you need, Sean, Mike and others can deliver and set your tree up for a reasonable delivery fee. The lot is kept clean and well stocked on a daily basis from Black Friday through December 23rd. Sadly, the reindeer is no longer there, but we can all hope that they will borrow another from Santa in the future. What an incredible display of incompetence. If you do not have a roof rack: DO NOT TAKE THEIR OFFER OF STRAPPING THE TREE TO THE TOP OF YOUR CAR UNLESS YOU WANT SCRATCHES ALL OVER YOUR CAR. Our attendant slapped the tree right on WITHOUT A SINGLE WORD about the possible damage that might be caused by the tree and the ropes that he cinched right onto the paint through the door frames. And this was all after we were made to wait to checkout because the attendant for a customer ahead of us had strapped their tree onto their car before they paid for it, and COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT KIND OF TREE IT WAS OR HOW MUCH IT COSTS. So we all had to wait while he unstrapped the tree from their car just to drag it back to the cashier so they could pay for it. Overall, complete unprofessionalism and lack of care for the customer. read more

We were excited to find this place still had a good selection of trees after calling/ looking at several others on Christmas Eve Eve. It only took a few minutes in the pouring rain to find 'the one' this tree was perfect it was skinny and had character. I didn't want a fat tree after last years tree practically engulfed our condo. The staff was great, friendly and helpful. They were informative, cut the bottom off it, wrapped it, and loaded it in our truck! We didn't have to touch the tree until we got home! I've gotten my tree there the last 3 years in a row. It's a quality you can't dind elsewhere. My tree always lasts 2 months if I water it sufficiently. I personally always choose a noble fir. Prices are reasonable. I usually get a 5 ft ish for like $40 but for the customer service and how lojg it lasts plus in my neighborhood is worth it. I'm buying onr there tomorrow with my husband. Wr just got married in April, he was a boyscout and worked on their christmas tree farms and says they do a lot for the community. I am proud to buy trees from this place. ... Instead of throwing out our tree in January we go to Golden gardens and light it on fire in one of the fire pits. Join me!! It's a fantastic way to recycle! Sometimes, if you slightly unfocus your eyes and loosen, just a bit, your grip on the here and now, you can drive on 35th Ave NE through Wedgwood and imagine yourself back in the 50's. What other neighborhood has a very large vacant lot on a main thoroughfare not filled with weeds and needles or a large sign touting its future development? In summer it's home to real, old fashioned roadside fruit stands. On Sundays, churchgoers use it as a parking lot. And from Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas it is home to a tiny reindeer, lights strung from poles, and lots of Christmas trees. I always get my tree here. I live a few blocks away so we walk up there, find a tree, and walk home like something out of a freakin' Norman Rockwell painting. It's a syrupy, sickly sweet scene that I love, despite my kids asking every year "Can't we puh-leeze drive this time?" No. Shut up. But I digress. The quality of the trees is very good and new ones come in all season. There are trees for every budget and taste, from inexpensive sheared Douglas Firs to Noble Firs and Spruces. They have wreaths and swags and branches and friendly people who hold up trees for you and never seem impatient no matter how long it takes to pick out a tree. Hey, it has to be perfect. They'll cut as much off as you want and wrap it in netting for free, and carry it to your car. The one year that a tree died on me in the first week I got it, I went back there and the manager came to my home, with a new tree, and took the dead one away. No charge. Who does that? And don't forget to visit the cute little reindeer. Although, he does have a look about him that says "oh god, here we go again, I'm so bored." Sort of like my kids. read more

Oh how I love my Swansons nursery but I've gone here for my Xmas tree the last two years and these guys are solid. A 5-6 foot Noble fir ( the longest needle lasting tree) cost me $45 but I saw prices and tree types run the gamut in price. Something for everyone. The people helping you with your tree, from picking to wrapping to tying securely on your car are always super friendly and thank god, patient. This place smells divine...these guys have been here selling trees since I moved to this neighborhood originally in 1988. Great spot to find your Perfect tree.. I live a block away, and no matter how miserable or icy the weather, the opening of Hunter's Tree Farm (note correct spelling of the name) always warms me up and makes me smile inside. I suspect that all native W'woodians feel the same. They always help me to pick out the most Charlie Brown tree, and even though it's a the runt of their fine trees and a bargain for $10, it smells just as nice and decorates just as well as the fancier trees. And the staff there is super-friendly, too. They always laugh at my request for the smallest and ugliest tree, then find one that was destined for the chipper and give it to me for a song (figuratively). A note to Anne-Lise: they replenish their supply of trees every day or two, so there was no reason to settle for a less-than-perfect tree unless you were in an urgent hurry. read more

Sooooooo - It was a crummy rainy Seattle day. I was having a horrible [ absolutely horrible ] day. What better to cheer a girl up than a Christmas tree? So I grabbed my friend's handy dandy cellphone, yelped Christmas Trees and uncovered this cute little place. Its in a nice little lot with loads of trees. I've never bought a Christmas tree without my daddy before so I was horribly confused about all the different types of trees. But the people were super nice and didn't question my sanity as I hobbled around trailing mud and pine needles smelling all the different trees. All I had to do once I found my tree was find a strapping young man (woohoo cliches!) and he carried the tree over to the cashier, offered to trim it (they trim trees?!), had all the pine needles shaken off (neat-o contraption), netted the tree and carried it to our car. Wow. Talk about customer service. They even had twine and a tree stand for the unprepared (I was one of them). Unfortunately T______________________________T the cute little reindeer isn't there yet, he comes in next week - so I'll have to come by next week. This was a good Christmas tree stand, reasonable prices by comparison to many tree lot's in the area. Staff were friendly. I found someone to cut open a tree for me and he was gone in an instant after. It wasn't until I had carried it across the lot and in line to pay that anyone offer assistance. Once I said I would love some help, it was full service. Tree shaking, fresh cut, wrapping, and tied it on my car and the young man helping me was very friendly. Overall it was a good experience, although they had four types of trees atleast 80% or more were Noble and they were the only type of tree signs I saw marked. I do love a good Nordman which they don't have but they still had a nice variety of Nobles. Assuming my tree does not dry out quickly and lasts the usual month, I would definitely go back again. read more

I've been going there for 15 years to get my tree. This year we splurged and bought a beautiful white spruce. The tree started dropping needles by the handful immediately. I honestly have never seen a tree lose it's needles faster. I called and they completely blew my off, made no offer to replace it using what could only be hundreds of trees that will just go in the chipper after the holidays. I'm going in person to talk to them, I may even bring back my sad but once beautiful tree. I may end up giving my money elsewhere in the coming years...TBC the reason they got two stars if for the 15 years I've gone to them. Before this I would have given them a 4/5. read more

We bought our tree from Hunter Farms last Christmas and plan to do so again tomorrow. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and had the same level of service as Jane described. The young man that helped us tied our tree to the top of our car and they suggested the bottle of tree food for us as well, which we bought. Listed prices mean nothing! We went and were very specific about wanting a 3-4 foot tree under $30. This meant a Douglas- which is also what we wanted. We struggled to find this because many of the trees were 4-6 feet... because they had an extra foot of stump and top, which we would cut off anyway! With the help of one of their workers we finally settled on a 4-6 foot Douglas which the kid told me was $28. When I went to check out the lady insisted it was a Grand Spruce and not a Douglas and was $48!!! By this time the kid had taken the tree to bundle it so I couldn't even look at the tree again- it looked like a Douglas to me when we picked it! My fiancé is in stage 4 kidney failure and I teach- I didn't have a big budget and made it clear, yet they pulled a "switcharoo" and I feel like I was tricked into spending almost double what I wanted! Not sure if this was caused by the kid helping or the lady at the check out but seems like they are running a shady business!! Will be getting our trees from the Boy Scout troupe by St. Catherine's from here on out and tell everyone else to do the same! Don't go to Hunters unless price doesn't matter to you!! read more

We tried this business for the first time this year. We plan on returning there every year from now on. They had a great selection of trees that seemed fresh enough to me (not an expert). After we chose our tree, a nice handsome high school boy carried it for us to the check out. Then he cut a new bottom, shook the stuff off, wrapped it up and put it in my van. He would have tied it to the top of my vehicle if I wanted that. We also purchased a bottle of liquid to add to the tree water to help it last longer. The only thing that prevents this review from being 5 stars is that two smaller branches were broken. read more

We usually purchase from the Ballard Boy Scouts but they were sold out early this year. On a friend's recommendation we tried out Hunter's and were not disappointed. Great service including trunk trimming and needle shaking along with helping us load the tree. Prices are as expected for this area: including tax, around $80 for a 7 ft noble fir which is comparable to what we pay at Troop 100. It's nice to support local businesses, so if in need we will probably return again. read more

We bought one of their higher end trees several weeks ago. Within 2 weeks the needles were falling off and it was completely dead. We didn't go a day without watering it. Being 40 weeks pregnant, we wanted to have our tree set up and not have to worry about it. Luckily, they did offer to exchange it, but made us make up the difference in price. I think this is poor business practice, given the selection at this point is extremely limited, I am 40 + weeks pregnant, and it takes a lot of effort and time to take down, return and re-decorate a new tree. read more
