I have gotten a Christmas tree here every year for as long as I can remember. The owners are a local family and are really nice. They have pre-cut trees here, but the big draw for a lot of people is the u cut lot. It used to be that u cut trees were quite a bit cheaper than precut trees, but now I think the prices are pretty much the same across the board wherever you go. Even though it's no longer a big money saver, I think a lot of people do u cut for the experience as it's fun and not something you can do in all climates/parts of the country. Plus, you get a guaranteed fresh tree. The farm added a reservation system a couple years back for ucuts (it's basically just an evite-type RSVP link on their website--free to sign up) that opens in the middle of November. This has really helped with crowd management as the area's population has grown so much over the years. The whole operation is down to an exact science: traffic controlled parking lot, scan your QR code to get a saw, find your tree, take the tractor flatbed back if you don't want to carry the tree all the way, trim/shake/bail (nominal fee for bailing), an employee will help you carry it to your vehicle if you want, and then pay in the shed. They hire an incredible number of seasonal employees for the couple weeks of tree season to keep things running smoothly. I didn't think of this til a couple years ago, but noticed a lot of people tip the person who helps carry your tree - they're mostly high schoolers so $5 is probably a bigger deal to them than it is to you. The checkout area carries some additional merchandise: tree stands, wreaths, some ornaments, etc. They also have free apple cider and candy canes for the kids (and adults) The farm also has a pumpkin patch and maybe some other activities in the fall. Anyways, this year was probably my last year getting a tree here for a while. My family has aged to a point that a tree no longer really makes sense, and I live somewhere that I have no space for a tree. We were so excited to go cut down our tree on the day after Thanksgiving. I did my research, got a reservation ahead of time, then ventured north to the farm. At 2pm there were so few trees available, we walked around in circles, in disbelief. We then considered a precut tree, but they were all huge! Well over 8 feet tall, so they wouldn't fit in our house. There was nothing festive or charming about the place -- just a parking nightmare and we left empty handed. If you live in Redmond, this is extremely close. They have beautiful trees in my opinion a bit pricey they did appear to be fresh cut. They bail the trees for five dollars a tree. They sell hot chocolate, but if you want to cut your own tree, you have to do it around Thanksgiving. For 2020 we decided to get into the Christmas spirit and get our first real, full-sized Christmas tree! After doing some research online, we chose McMurtrey's Red-Wood Christmas Tree Farm in Redmond. They have an informative website and they keep their Facebook page up to date, so you should definitely check those out before going. We went on the first day of the season (the day after Thanksgiving). We started by visiting the refreshments stand. You can get a free cup of hot cocoa or hot apple cider and a candy cane. Honestly, this is one of the reasons why I chose this place. :-) They have a bunch of pre-cut trees in the front, but we decided to try to cut down our own. We took one of their hand saws and started looking for the perfect tree. We didn't go very far, but it was fun figuring out which one we wanted. It was really easy to cut the tree down (the wood is soft) and my husband just carried the tree back to the front. One of the workers immediately started helping us. They have a machine that shakes the loose needles from your tree, which is a free service. They can also bale your tree for $4. That means they wrap it up in a net so it is easier to transport. The worker also carried the tree to our car and placed it on our roof, so you might want to have some tip money handy. We then paid for our tree, but the line was really long, so it might be nicer if you pay first and then get your tree. That way you can just take off when they load your car. The u-cuts all cost the same amount. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and we love our tree (we named him Doug). We look forward go going back next year! read more

This was my first time to the Farm and was pleasantly surprised by the festive atmosphere with hot chocolate and cider, attentive staff, and the feeling of excitement in the air for finding that perfect Christmas Tree for the family. I'd never been on a Farm like this before and it's worth it to come just for the experience of walking the Farm and smelling all the Christmas trees and seeing families on their hunt to find one. They also have a special machine that allows you to take your tree home wrapped, which I wouldn't have believed existed unless I had seen it with my own eyes! Finished a wine tasting at Chateau St Michelle and decided to finally get our tree on Dec 22nd, 2019. Quick 6 minute drive. Helpful associates. And a pretty big selection considering it was going to be the last day they were open for 2019! (But nothing was discounted). They lady I talked to said "they close at dark". Our regular tree farm was closed and this place was the only option without driving too far. These are precut trees and maybe that's why the prices seemed higher than last year when we went to our usual. However, this place is OK. I will say some of the staff will try to sell you any tree. One person tried to tell me that a tree which had a majority of dry leaves was very healthy and was just going through a growth spurt. Maybe. But I had never heard that before. Regardless we found a tree that my kids picked. We probably won't go back next year because we enjoy cutting the tree. However it's a great spot if you want a precut tree. read more

What a magical Christmas tree experience! It's honestly an entire event. Beautiful farm, with the most gorgeous trees! And an indoor stand of gorgeous wreaths that are fully decorated. Plus, they have caramel corn for purchase and a complimentary hot cocoa/apple cider stand for kids of all ages (including this 40 year old!). It was a dream. I happened to immediately cross paths with this wonderful woman working there (who looked like a beautiful Christmas Elf), decked out in a holiday sweater and fabulous Christmas ornament earring, who I think was the owner or manager. She told us about the different trees, I looked up, and it was like I was suddenly Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation seeing my tree with a beam of light shining down on it. She agreed it was a honey of a tree and a real beaut, and so there we had it! They shake out your tree and then put it through a machine to wrap it up, carry it out for you, and do it all with the spirit of a good old fashioned family Christmas. I think our tree was $110 and the large decorated wreath was $55, so it was honestly a great value for the experience and quality. We will definitely be back next year! read more

The staff are great, ready to help, and they seem to have good practices in place for COVID safety. If you want to pick a big, pre-cut tree, you'll have some really great options! If you prefer u-cut, then you might not be as happy - it appears most of the good-looking trees have already been cut as of Saturday morning, 11/28/2020. They were really busy, and the parking lot is small compared to the traffic they get. My only real complaint, however, is lack of signage. We had to ask where to pay as it wasn't apparent. The u-cut tree types are mixed together also, so there isn't just one spot to look for the kind of tree you want. Ultimately, it's a decent spot to find a pre-cut tree. Even the rain doesn't seem to slow down the popularity of this place! read more

Took the fam out to cut down our very first tree! This will be a fam tradition from now on :) This place is dog friendly so we brought our two pups. U-Cut trees had a set flat rate, add bailing for an additional small fee (they will trim the bottom and do a nice flat trunk cut). Complimentary hot cocoa and cider. Before coming here I read that they run out of trees pretty quick so we came the Saturday after Thanksgiving and although there was a good amount to choose from, I can tell that it'll be slim pickings by next weekend for sure. The majority of trees available were Douglas fir. Staff is great and very friendly. Aside from the trees you can cut down yourself, they have a variety of precut trees. Tip: Don't forget to tip the guys who help with the bailing and taking the tree to your car :) read more

We get our tree here every year. It IS a u-cut tree farm, but they run out of those really early, I think within the first two weekends. We always get our tree the day after Thanksgiving. I love that they allow dogs. We always bring our golden retriever. They also have hot cocoa and cider and candy canes. The boys working are always nice and friendly. Pros: -multiple workers offered to answer any questions we might have -accepts credit cards -free hot chocolate (it will burn you tastebuds off) -plenty of trees to choose from -plenty of parking Cons: -pricey -charge for bailing -difficult to get to some trees -they don't tie it to your car, he plopped it on the top and walked away. We had to hustle back up to him and ask if they at least had twine. We tipped based on that additional service so we were not happy. I've never been to a place that doesn't do that for you. We arrived 10 minutes before closing and the guys here were still super helpful. It was a sunny day after 10 days of nonstop rain so they were packed. They had the rows arranged by type a s size. The trees were a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Having left home depot and one another tree farm to come here the difference was obvious. The trees were a better quality, there was a much bigger selection and variety. There were also many hands on deck to help you get situated. I'll mention that there is an extra charge to wrap your tree which we forfeited because we live a couple hundred yards away. But they did help put the tree on the car. We just came home from McMurtrey's Red-Wood Christmas Tree Farm, and I wanted to write this review because I was completely blown away by our experience. First off, all the trees were absolutely beautiful - nice shapes, rarely any holes. We absolutely love the tree we got, and we didn't feel like we had to settle. Instead, it took us awhile to pick one because we were stuck between two really nice trees that we liked and we couldn't make up our minds. But more importantly, the customer service was second to none. Multiple workers came up to us asking if we needed help, and one in particular showed us the grand firs and noble firs, and explained the pros and cons of both. She even came back to make sure we saw new trees that they had just taken out. When we finally chose a tree, a young man not only took it to the area to be baled, but he cut off the bottom so it'd be nice and fresh, cut off a few branches for us as well, shook it, baled it, and then took it to our car. He was awesome. To top it off, they had free hot chocolate and apple cider. This was the Christmas tree experience my husband and I were looking for since we moved up here from Hawaii, and we were not disappointed. We will definitely be back next year! read more

However, with the amount of people there you would think that it would be crowded, but they have such a large lot that when looking for trees, you had a lot of personal space for family photos :). First a heads up: If you're looking for a u-cut tree farm right now (Dec 2014) I believe that McMurtrey's closed their U-Cut section yesterday at 4pm. Check their FB page for updates. That said, we went yesterday morning right at opening time and had the best experience! It was busy but we never felt crowded out. These people have a well-oiled machine. I believe any U-Cut tree was $42. There were parking helpers directing you to spots, people working a tree "debugger" (never seen that before, it shakes all the bugs out of your tree), $3 bailing (wrapping your tree in that stringy mesh), cutting the trunk bottom flat, and walking your tree to your car. There was complementary hot chocolate, cider, and candy canes. There was also a "hay ride" type vehicle sans hay with benches for families to ride around the property. read more

Went here last night to buy my first live xmas tree. They were so helpful. The man we spoke with explained the layout of the farm and the different types of trees available. Since me and my hubby are newbies to the xmas tree industry, he also gave us a quick briefing on the different types of trees. Granted you could probably find cheaper trees elsewhere, but I thought paying 36.50 to cut down any tree was a pretty good deal, especially when some of the pre cut short noble firs were more than that. Well as I was saying, since we were such newbies to this, we thought it was a great idea to go late at night. We could barely see the trees (we were using our cell phones as flashlights). Then both our batteries died... so I ran up and they lent me a flashlight! How nice of them!! I recommend getting the tree debugged and wrapped, makes it easier for car transport (its an extra $3), but they give away free candy canes and hot cider!!! I had such a wonderful experience I was so happy I went to support the locals than going to some major retail store to buy the trees!!! Hurry and get yours before they run out of the good ones... unless you like the charlie brown xmas tree.. then you have plenty of time! :D read more

Very good experience. We came to Red-Wood Farm before lunch on Black Friday. They were busy, but not horribly crowded. Pretty easy to find; just down from the winery district in Woodinville. Not super fancy, but a good deal for the price. Honey buckets for restrooms, gravel/stones for the parking lot. "U-cut trees" were a flat rate of $36.50 ($43ish with baling & tax). Separate pre-cut area for the taller, fatter Nobles (not sure on price). Free cider, hot chocolate & candy canes. Very friendly staff. Someone has already asked if our tree is a fake b/c it looks so perfectly shaped. :-) read more

We got our tree from here this year. Everyone was so helpful and I was glad to get a fresh local tree. Few weeks in and it's still smells fresh and is beautiful still! Tons of trees and different breeds with many sizes available. I also picked up a beautiful wreath! Will be our local tree spot for sure in the future! Also - excellent prices! Gah! I'll be getting my Christmas trees here from now on. Super friendly staff had pre-cut trees from Mt. Rainier available for purchase because they had met their tree cutting quota for the year. Didn't mean we couldn't sneak a little hide and seek in the tree farm with the family! Went to this place on 12/9/2012 - When we arrived we where told by a VERY rude women that U cut Tree cutting was over for the year and we should not have waited to the last minute... (Last minute??? it is 12/9/2012... ) She told us that their location and all other tree farms in the Puget Sound area are closed for u cut trees - So I went to my car and called 4 other farms and they where all open and selling u cut trees (liar Liar shame on you trying to force me to buy your over priced non u cut trees ) - found a great little tree farm in Bothell and now we will go there after 12 years of going to McMutrey's - Don't lie and don't be rude.... and December 9 is NOT last minute... Went here last night for my second year in a row. They have fragrant trees and you can cut your own for a good price. They shake, bale, and deliver the tree right to your vehicle. 21-Dec-2011 around 4:00PM we arrived to find about 20 decent trees left. Price was good. The guy there was nice and helpful, threw the tree on the roof of my car, and took my money. I had to tie it down. My wife and 4-year old daughter enjoyed the free cider and candy canes. I was out by 4:20PM. I will return next year and cut my own...that will be fun. Better experience than the place on Avondale Road on the right just outside of Redmond heading east. Don't go there, go to McMurtrey's instead. read more

It's almost half price if you cut the tree yourself. If you really wanted to cut your own tree, why not go to the supermarket and get a dead tree there instead? Free hot chocolate and hot cider and free saws. Overall, lots of fun. $3 to bail your tree, is worth it for getting it into your living room. Not many large trees however. If you want a really big tree, you'll probably have to spend $200 on a precut tree rather than the $40-50 for u-cut. It doesnt take long to cut the trees. All u-cut trees are the same price. U-cut lot was closed (Dec 11th) but got a tree already cut that they said was fresh (cut 2 days prior at most). They were right The tree continued to drink bucketfuls of water for the next 2 weeks. Two small drawbacks: 1. though woman running the cash register was knowledgeable young guys outside, though friendly and willing to help, knew much less about the trees they were selling. 2. "for legal reasons" they will not help you tie your tree to your car. read more

My wife and I got our Christmas tree here in 2013 and 2014 with no problems. Cut it ourselves and it was a great tree. This year, we went one week after Thanksgiving and were told their U-Cut was closed for the season. We nearly left to look for another farm, but it was pouring, so we decided to get a pre-cut tree there. The selection wasn't great, but we found one that looked good enough. Fast forward a few weeks to the week before Christmas, and the tree is dead. We watered it plenty, did everything we normally would do, but the tree didn't last until Christmas. Normally we leave our tree up for a few weeks in the new year, but we had to take it down 3 days after Christmas. When we did, I couldn't believe how dry it was. Branches fell off in my hands as I removed the lights. I may come back next year, but if their U-Cut is inexplicably closed, I will not buy a pre-cut tree, as they clearly weren't cut very recently. read more
