I have gotten a Christmas tree here every year for as long as I can remember. The owners are a…read morelocal family and are really nice. They have pre-cut trees here, but the big draw for a lot of people is the u cut lot. It used to be that u cut trees were quite a bit cheaper than precut trees, but now I think the prices are pretty much the same across the board wherever you go. Even though it's no longer a big money saver, I think a lot of people do u cut for the experience as it's fun and not something you can do in all climates/parts of the country. Plus, you get a guaranteed fresh tree. The farm added a reservation system a couple years back for ucuts (it's basically just an evite-type RSVP link on their website--free to sign up) that opens in the middle of November. This has really helped with crowd management as the area's population has grown so much over the years. The whole operation is down to an exact science: traffic controlled parking lot, scan your QR code to get a saw, find your tree, take the tractor flatbed back if you don't want to carry the tree all the way, trim/shake/bail (nominal fee for bailing), an employee will help you carry it to your vehicle if you want, and then pay in the shed. They hire an incredible number of seasonal employees for the couple weeks of tree season to keep things running smoothly. I didn't think of this til a couple years ago, but noticed a lot of people tip the person who helps carry your tree - they're mostly high schoolers so $5 is probably a bigger deal to them than it is to you. The checkout area carries some additional merchandise: tree stands, wreaths, some ornaments, etc. They also have free apple cider and candy canes for the kids (and adults) The farm also has a pumpkin patch and maybe some other activities in the fall. Anyways, this year was probably my last year getting a tree here for a while. My family has aged to a point that a tree no longer really makes sense, and I live somewhere that I have no space for a tree. I'm sad that I won't get to continue this annual tradition in the near future, but hopefully one day I'll be able to make it back

At 2pm there were so few trees available, we walked around in circles, in disbelief. We then considered a precut tree, but they were all huge! Higo is the original shop owned and run by the Murakami family. This is one of the few businesses that survived the Executive Order 9066 written in 1942 with thanks to the non-Japanese friends of the family who owned businesses in the same building. Today, Kobo represents a new generation of local artists, selling gift items, crafts, tees, books, art, jewelry, and much more at varying level of prices. I highly recommend Kobo when shopping for unique gifts. When I recently visited, they had a glass artwork on display, art gallery style. It was also the yearly Nihonmachi celebration, and they had a table outside with an artist painting one of three designs on classic Japanese windchimes. I was thrilled to buy one of these adorable windchimes commonly featured in anime including Studio Ghibli movies.
