I tried to review this place a couple of times after it first opened. Don't know where the reviews went. Anyway, my first few times to this establishment I ate the Whiting, my favourite fish. The food was adequate enough. The only disappointing part was when staff members once sat behind me outside and every second word emanating from their mouths was the F word. Not really enjoyable.
As a person that doesn't eat Maccas type rubbish, I sometimes like to eat an old style burger, if I can find one. I tried their burger with the lot and it was very good and every couple of months I'd get one. That was until the middle of last year. I bought a burger and it was disgusting. The meat was burnt on the outside while barely cooked inside. The rest of it wasn't any better. Everyone has a bad day I guess, so I decided to give Hunky Dory another try towards the end of last year. This burger was even worse than the last one. I threw it away after a couple of bites. The chips were awful too. Soft, soggy and a very dark brown colour. From my experience, chips like these mean that they're cooked with low heat. Chips need to be cooked at a high temp. That horrible brown colour is because the oil has not been filtered or changed. Business do this to save money. Thou it costs them more in the long run through loss of patronage. Never again, I thought at the time.
I have to walk past this place everyday and it's always busy, I be thinking WTF? Have I been too harsh because of my previous experiences? Give them another go? These were the thoughts in my head when I decided to give them yet another chance recently. All the way there I was thinking of getting the burger. Once inside I changed my mind. I couldn't go through with it. I went the battered Whiting instead. Actually, make it two bits of Whiting I'm starved. $22.50, yeah no problem I'll pay top dollar for my favourite fish, a safer option, so I thought.
I get home and open my package. The fish was grilled not battered as I asked. The garnish (lettuce) looked limp and half of it was rotten.. a slimy grey colour. YUCK!!!
The fish.. my god what the hell. I took a bite. It was cooked more than a well done steak. I looked underneath the fish and it was burnt black. It was so dry.. awful just awful. I got a couple of friends to sample the fish (so they'd understand what not to do when cooking fish). They couldn't swallow it, they had to spit it out. Only place for fish like this is the bin. Did they give me the dry and old Whiting from their display cabinet? What a disgrace. Lesson learnt! Never again.. It might look flash inside but it's heart (kitchen) is dead. Train your amateur cooks in how to use a grill. Or hire a professional.
Avoid this place at all costs.. Pathetic. read more
