Scallops - the accompanying salad is divine!
    Ali H.

I hadn't been here since covid, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Make no mistake, this place is GOOD. I had lunch here on a Sunday. There are several menu approaches, which is great to accommodate all budgets. My companion and I decided on some entrees - Scallops (fabulous) and King Prawn dumplings (great), then we shared the Duck main with the cauliflower side dish. It was a happy and delicious selection. We really enjoyed everything. The service was very good and the whole experience was lovely. Thank you to all, particularly our server Emeline. Our drinks were a Rose Spritz cocktail and Dirty Martini to start, then a bottle of King Valley Pinot Grigio, again very good. I wouldn't hesitate to come again. Well done to everyone.

The team here never disappoint - we had friends from overseas and they could not stop raving about the food, service and drink selection. From entry to exit you feel like the only people in the restaurant. Will definitely be back - one of our favourite restaurants

Spent over $200 bucks for stiff and hard lobster tail and fish. DONT GO THERE. On the brightside, service was first rate. Staff knew his dishes inside out and was patient to help my mates and I pick what we wanna eat. We deliberately left a piece of lobster and fish for the chef to try and be the judge of the complain but I guessed they didn't really take it to heart.

Came here for an express lunch with a few girlfriends as part of the food and wine festival. The food was delicious, minimal options though and you can't see it ahead of time which may make it challenging if you are a vegetarian. After seeing our neighbouring diners entrees arrive we toyed with what courses to get but settled on all of us having main and desert. I had the spatchcock and seasonal salad the others had the salmon and zucchini. Both dishes were well presented and tasty. Portions were small but perfect for lunch. The desert was definitely the best part of the meal and I don't have a particularly sweet tooth. The donuts were a little disappointing and appeared slopped onto the plate but the frozen lemon meringue pie was sublime and more than made up for it. It was tangy with a cool ice cream like texture surrounded by a fluffy pillow of chilled meringue. Mmm I could have that again right now. The restaurant itself is sleek and what you would expect from a modern Australian fine dining establishment. It has exceptional views over the yarra and the arts center which make it a great location if you are out to impress someone special whether it be for business or pleasure. The regular menu is not cheap but from previous visits I would suggest well worth it for the experience.

Taxi at Federation Sq is a unique experience with its service and food. Being a tourist, the dishes were unique and representative of modern australian. I love the tender kangaroo dish and salmon. Waiters were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Taxi Dining Room might just be the most prestigious and amazing dining experiences I've ever had. Going there for a joint family birthday was a fantastic experience. We were wined and dined literally with an eclectic degustation menu that incorporated both their Japanese and modern Australian cuisine. Each meal complimented the next as we thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining explanations of the 11 different items. Personally, I was impressed most at how swift and quick the meals were coming out for a busy Saturday night where we had a great spot right towards the back in a semi-open outdoor area on a balmy night. Simply a perfect evening looking out at Fed Square and the lights of Melbourne enjoying some of the finest food Melbourne has to offer. It's fine dining at its absolute best!

With the rain beating down on us C and I only had a short dash from Spencer Street across St. Kilda Road to the Transport Hotel in Federation Square. On the first floor of this glass cube is Taxi, a restaurant with a good reputation. I had phoned ahead only two hours before and had got a reservation for an early dinner on a Saturday night before we went to a Melbourne Festival Show. The food is fusion of contemporary Australian and Japanese cuisine. It is perfectly platted, it looks beautiful and the patters are novel. The food tastes marvelous, my taste buds were individually thanking me with every mouthful. We shared their sashimi special for the entrée. C had the vegetarian platter for her main and I had one of the main fish dishes with a curry rice and side dishes that I struggle to describe but want more. We had also had their deserts and were so glad that we did, as they were an amazingly amazing culinary experience, but then the whole meal was. The service is so friendly but elegant and attentive. The décor is a classy minimal save for the magnificent views of the Yarra River. As a table for two we had a great view. We watched the weather from our table; C had the more optimistic view and could see the clouds clearing in the west.

Sticky pork and scallop at Taxi Dining Room

Taxi Dining Room is located in Fed Square above Taxi Bar. It's a big space with high ceilings and louvred glass walls on three sides looking over the Yarra, Flinders Street Station and St Paul's Cathedral - an iconic Melbourne view. I ordered the $130 tasting menu opting to choose my own drinks rather than take the $90 matched wines option. First course was a little appetiser of spanner crab with frozen coconut and plum wine. Beautifully presented and an interesting combination of flavours, but a little too subtle for my taste, maybe as a result of the pastise I had as an aperitif. I finished my drink at about the same time as the crab so I asked the waitress to suggest something from the cocktail menu. She recommended the Hakutsuru Western Ginjo - an interesting combo of sake, Belvedere, Elderflower and Lillet. Next up was the sticky pork with a braised scallop and nam jim red chilli dressing. The chilli was made with vinegar giving it an extra kick that was nicely offset by the little side salad of beans, shredded radish (I think) and coriander. The pork was perfectly cooked - not overly fatty - and worked really well with the dressing. The scallop was almost an afterthought for me, maybe included to add another layer of texture to the course rather than for its taste which I thought was a little overwhelmed by the other flavours. But overall a lovely dish with really well balanced flavours. Next was a couple of thin, lightly seared pieces of snapper on a bed of enoki mushrooms and tofu cubes covered in an intensely rich red miso broth. Gorgeous and innovative twist on the traditional miso soup. Atlantic salmon with yabby dumplings followed. I almost asked the waiter if I could replace this as I'm not a big fan of salmon. Glad I didn't. The salmon was served on a pear puree and was perfectly cooked - just a little crusty on the outside - with a side of onions, fennel and Japanese mushrooms. For me, the yabby dumpling was the best part of this course. Strong, almost gamey flavour - could have eaten a plate of them. Finished my cocktail and ordered another - William's Poire Epices. This was a combination of Belverdere, pear purée, lemon juice and 5 spice syrup. Sweet, delicious and really refreshing. The last of the savoury courses was Wagyu porterhouse served with horseradish Creme Fraiche and a soy based dipping sauce that also included mirren along with about 10 other ingredients, and a pile of rocket infused with pieces of pickled ginger. Delicious. The steak was tender and tasty and rare and the sauce complemented it beautifully. By now I was more than full but still able to find room for desert - hazelnut praline parfait with fresh figs and plum sorbet. Great finish. Taxi is very good. The service is attentive without being annoying, my waiter obviously knew the recipes for each course and explained them very well, the atmosphere is classy but laid back (loved the lounge music playing softly in the background throughout the meal), and while not quite up there with Attica for out of the box ingredient/flavour combinations, a solid degustation with a couple of real stand out dishes - the red miso broth and the sticky pork.

As a vegan, usually when I go to a paleo place, I shudder at the amount of meat and eggs on offer -- but Seedling Cafe's not like that. Their menu dovetails nicely with a plant-based diet, offering plenty of vegan options. For breakfast, vegans can choose from smashed avo, blueberry porridge, and four different kinds of smoothie bowls made from coconut milk. They also have a variety of fancy-pants lattes (turmeric, matcha, etc.) and coffee with almond, coconut, or soy milk. For lunch, there's not much on the menu for vegans per se, but check the display case where they have their fresh salads and there are usually a few vegan salads, which you can mix and match to make a nice healthy lunch (that's what I did -- I had a pea thing, a cauliflower thing, and a vegan coleslaw thing. Yes. Thing.) And of course they have some healthy treats by way of raw vegan bars and energy balls and stuff like that. These vary so just check the display case. I had the peanut bar and while it wasn't decadent like peanut butter, I wasn't really wanting or expecting it to be -- it tasted mostly like ground up peanuts and a bit of sweetness and a bit of chocolate. In other words, it tasted healthy, which is what you're after anyway if you're going to this place. Their menu and the food in their display case is clearly marked with vegan, paleo, dairy-free, and nut-free options. V* means vegan, and staff knows what exactly "vegan" entails. (They even know that honey is not vegan, which is impressive because a lot of non-veg restaurants/cafes don't know that one.) In terms of atmosphere, this Seedling Cafe is lighter and brighter and feels roomier than their Flinders Lane location. It's in the Equitable Place laneway, on the corner with Little Collins Street. Not much seating so this place is mostly take-away, but there are a few small tables and chairs.

Supercharger's OK…read more I love that it's vegan and healthy, and it's definitely fresh and nutritious and packs in a LOT of food that's excellent for your body. It's especially awesome that you can get something vegan and healthy in a food court setting! I'm a vegan and it's super-awesomely-great that I don't have to settle for french fries and/or a boring falafel wrap when I meet friends here for lunch. But something about the flavour profiles here don't sit quite right with me. I don't know what it is. For a long time, I would come here and order the "make your own" types of bowls, where you pick and choose what you want, and no matter what combination I chose, I always chose something that tasted a bit weird when put together. Not BAD, mind you, just weird. I always dismissed it by telling myself: "Self, you are no gourmand. Your idea of 'gourmand' is actually eating out instead of blitzing the crap out of something in the microwave at home. So it's not Supercharger -- it's you. You just chose the wrong combinations and they just taste funny TOGETHER." However, lately I've been getting the "pre-set" Supercharger meals rather than designing my own, and they STILL taste a bit funny. I don't know what it is. I'm not crazy about all the tahini sauce -- tahini is a little too bitter for my liking. The curry seemed to have a strange combination of spices -- it was mild, but the spices just didn't taste right all mixed together. I ended up throwing half of it out -- and I hate hate hate wasting food! The cauliflower seemed sad and limp and flavourless. The rice and quinoa bowl, however, was delicious, with very fresh-tasting carrots, corn, etc. Maybe I'm still just not ordering the right things? I don't know but I've eaten here easily 6-8 times and really only enjoyed about half of what I ate, tolerated another 40% of what I ate, and flat-out hated 10% of what I ate. As far as price goes, it's moderately expensive but come on, you're at the Emporium food court where people are dropping serious money on handbags and clothes and shoes so I don't blame Supercharger for superovercharging. On the plus side, you do get a lot of food. I'm quite full every time I eat here. The concept of a fresh, nutritious, plant-based eatery in a food court is AWESOME, so two thumbs up for Supercharger. But the flavours just aren't really my speed and it would be great if they put some effort into improving them -- then they'd get 5 stars from me!

I'm a girl who loves options and Supercharger's got so many of them to choose from. To create your…read morevegan dream bowl you select a base (I opted for mashed potato and brown rice because, hello, carbs!) and add toppings (green pea smash, broccoli, mushrooms, coconut sauce, daikon and garlic). Soup's also an option (it comes in a separate bowl). I won't complain about the prices because I happen to think Australia's just generally quite pricey so $20 for a bowl of plant-based goodness isn't that crazy. However, the ordering process can surely be improved. Invest in some iPads, do something - anything! - but persist with the current system of paper sheets with so many options laid out in a non-intuitive manner (that require someone to erase them after use). Supercharger, please consider setting up shop in San Francisco! Your vegan, plant-filled bowls are just what the city needs!

Decided that we would go to the diner side, instead of the Italian side. Walked in and what struck us immediately was the noise! We had our hearts set on trying this very cool little spot. We initially had to wait for some seats to be cleaned up, even though there was a number of open tables. Once seated our server(s) were very friendly and we had our food on the table in no time. I went for the burger and my wife went for the chili salad. My burger was ok, but the bun was such that it nearly disintegrated and I was left trying to eat a squished out mess. I tried my wife's meal and it was definitely very tasty. Overall, The food was good, but not fabulous, like I had hoped. Even though the place was only 1/2 full, the noise levels were such that we had to nearly yell at each other to be heard. The entire place is glass, hardwood floors and metal chair (which make a seriously loud noise when moved). This would have been a cool place to linger and chat, but unless you have a blowhorn that's just not possible. Out servers were very friendly and good.
