In A Nutshell: -The Quarter has a decent selection of wines. -The Hugo Rosé was very, very good so I'd recommend that for a nice cool drink. -The service was very friendly. -I can imagine that seating would be tough during high-tourist season, especially sitting outside. Overall, I really liked this restaurant, it's a good place to have a couple drinks & people watch.

I've actually been here twice, the second time because I completely forgot that I have been here previously to write a review on it. Okay, it I like a place I probably should go more than once, but in reality I don't have the time, or the money, to do so, so instead I just yelp about it. Anyway, it was okay, but not one of the best breakfest places that I have visited. It to me seemed to be one of those places that is somewhat old fashioned, which basically means that you aren't going to get anything all that special. It was nice, but one one of the greatest.

I came here craving a rich pasta dish, and that's exactly what I got! I ordered the duck confit ravioli in a rose sauce with toasted cashews. The duck was tender, the ravioli al dente, the sauce had a spicy kick, the cashews added a soft, buttery crunch, and the portion was perfect. I sat solo in the window on a chilly evening and people watched while I drank a glass of prosecco, not feeling awkward or rushed. Yum, yum, and yum!

I took my dad here for brunch today and we were both glad I did. I ordered the ricotta hotcakes topped w/ caramelised banana, candied walnuts and Canadian maple syrup, he had the 'Quarter Big Breaky' and we both had a flat white. First off our waitress was super friendly, personable and really upbeat - 5/5 for customer service. My ricotta hotcakes were delicious! Flavours are all there, pillowy soft hotcakes and yummy maple syrup with hints of vanilla and cinnamon. The coffee was your typical great Melbourne coffee so no complaints there and my dad really enjoyed his breaky! If I had to fault anything it would be the portion size. Whilst this size was 'just' right for me if it had been any smaller or I had been any hungrier then I would of hoped for a larger size. All in all it's a great little place if you can get a table and sit amongst the hustle and bustle of Degraves St and tourist spot.

Bustling inner city laneway Degraves Street is home to a number of cafes interweaved with various boutiques and other stores. Regarded by locals as a tourist trap of sorts, it is almost the cafe equivalent of Hardware Lane. The Quarter is one of many in the narrow and sometimes quite crowded lane. Given its location, it is probably easy to write off as just another cafe but venture inside to its cosy interior and you may be surprised. Adorned with books, framed photographs, hanging birdcages and rustic light fixtures, it has a certain vintage feel. Setting itself apart from the neighbouring cafes is that it also offers dinner service. The food menu is an impressive and nearly overwhelming mix of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. There's the usual suspects like smashed avocado and ricotta hot cakes. There's burgers. There's grain salads. There's pizza. There's pasta. There's risotto. There's the classic chicken parma. There's a cocktail list. It's almost too much choice. Without multiple visits it is difficult to comment on the quality of each of these different classes of dishes, but passing glances at other dishes being served out look promising. There are daily specials from each of the categories and on this visit I had the burger special - marinated chicken breast, grilled bacon, Swiss cheese, spiced avocado, tomato relish, mixed lettuce and lime mayonnaise on a Turkish bun with a side of chips. The presentation was simple with the burger and neatly stacked chips sitting unassumingly on a plate. Places that serve packed burgers with skewer instantly get brownie points, no one like the contents spilling out into the plate. The flavours was intriguing with the sweetness of the relish combined with the rich cheese and avocado, a nice combination. Location aside, The Quarter is a nice inner city hangout spot, amongst the hustle and bustle with a wide range of food and drink choices.

I enjoyed our visit here and there was a wide selection of options to choose from. Plenty of outside seating that is completely shaded and there are heaters in case it gets chilly (as you would expect in Melbourne). Service was friendly and dishes were well priced. The slow cooked lamb salad was great and I really enjoyed the squid as it was lovely and tender, not chewy at all! Worth a look of you find yourself on Degraves St.

Degraves street was a favourite of mine to get breakfast over a morning meeting a few years ago. However I now realise that it has morphed into a tourist destination. My friends and I were a little disappointed with the breakfast the eggs benedict, hotcakes and the simple breakfast which were just ok. The portions were quite small in comparison to the plethora of other breakfast places in Melbourne. The coffee was great and out waiter was great and provided quick and efficient service. A great place for tourist but the food quality compared to other places in Melbourne was just not there.

The Quarter is a great choice for dinner. We got a late start and didn't get to the restaurant until about 9:30, but the place was still bustling. We chose to eat inside because it was a bit cold out, but it was nice to sit near the window that was opened up to the seating outside. The waiter was knowledgeable and well-versed on the specials. I chose the duck ravioli, and it was delicious! I would have ordered it again if I weren't so worried about looking gluttonous! :)

This is my second visit to The Quarter and I loved it as much as I did the first time. Tucked away on the famed Degraves Street, Melbourne, The Quarter is a little slice of Europe just a stones throw from Flinders Street Station. I devoured French Toast with Berry Compote with a side of crispy bacon. The meal did not dissappoint. The coffee was spot on and my request for a mix of guava and cranberry juice was delivered without a problem. The staff were friendly and food service swift. Worth seeking out on your next trip to Melbourne... I know I will be back.

When you visit Degraves Street and decide to have a bite to eat, generally speaking, you are not really there to take in the food. You are likely to be there to take in the hustle and bustle of a busy laneway complete with all the characters that are there for your perusal. Having said that, The Quarter does do food pretty well with a range of pizza and pasta dishes that are pretty darn tasty. They also have a decent range of drinks that aren't too expensive despite its location. You could definitely find far superior places to eat at instead of The Quarter, but could you experience them at a location as fun and vibrant as the tourist trap that is Degraves Street? I think the answer is yes, but The Quarter is a pretty cool place to eat and get a taste of Melbourne all the same.

I kind of hoped with a name like the quarter, the menu would take its direction from the French Quarter in New Orleans....maybe thats just my love for Jambalaya and gumbo, but nevertheless, thats not what they offer here. Its another Italian/Australian restaurant.Actually, its better described as European, with an array of food that any cafe would or should serve, like foccacias, pizzas and pastas. The food is good, nothing to write home about, but will satisfy anyone with hunger pangs. Suprisingly, its not too expensive here, despite its attraction for tourists visiting Melbourne's laneways. Because of this locals are drawn here too, for their decently priced food and drinks, and of course the atmosphere of Degraves st. And thats really what a visit to this restaurant is all about.

We came here on a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Everything we ordered was better than we could've imagined. Appetizer: crispy pork belly, Lunch: spinach gnocchi and tagliatelle ragu. Check it out!

Good food at a very nice place. The restaurant is based on a narrow street and the environment makes it fun and cozy. Great place to hang out after work and chill for a cold beer and good food. If ever visiting Melbourne, stop by and spend an hour there relaxing before the next tour.
